RE: Chapter 632: "I knew it" -Discussion
The 150 Km really isn't bothering me, simply because if Oda did state it as a mistake it'll probably be fixed. The thing that is bothering me (but not pissing me off) is the 10,000 meters thing. Isn't that only about 10 miles? Is that far? Is roughly 10 miles the bottom of ocean in the OP world? I know this isn't important but, how many miles deep is the ocean floor in our world?
I realize that these really aren't important questions, just things I'm wondering. You can either answer these or linger on and ignore them.
The Mariana Trench is the deepest part of real world's Oceans, and the maximum depth in it is about 10.91 km (6.78 mi), so it seems obvious to me that this was the measure he used base his choice of depth for FI. And 10 km in depth is definitely a LOT.

RE: Chapter 632: "I knew it" -Discussion
Now I'm pretty sure that Luffy will save FI by destroying the Noah ship, and that what Madame Shyary saw in her vision was its pieces falling in the island behind Luffy (and still causing some damage)… But nonetheless I think it is highly probable that Luffy will be blamed for the attack and all the destruction caused by the ship.

RE: Chapter 631: "Gyoncord Plaza" -Discussion
5 million people in an apartment building? the size of central park…..the streets never look that crowded so far in the manga. robin's bus was almost empty.
Fishman island does not have to be a perfect circle, it could easily be an oblique or Oda just screwed up. I never thought about this bout 10,000m is pretty shallow to be the bottom of an ocean. At least in earth terms.
In FI's case it is a GIANT apartment building… Here, I've made a formula and calculated the approximated total inhabitable area of FI (assuming a bubble with a radius of 1,5 km):
And that is not even taking into account the floating bubbles who are inside the main bubble. So, I would say that they have plenty space available…
-
RE: Chapter 631: "Gyoncord Plaza" -Discussion
lol earth is three-dimensional, it doesnt change anything. and new york is a giant apartment complex.
If you look at the earth from space, its one big circle. land doesnt stretch out in the same straight line from above as it does when we our on ground, it curves.
What are you talking about? Did you even read our posts?
First of all, he was talking about the Central Park only (not the whole New York City), and how it would be crowded if they tried to make the whole population of FI fit in Central Park, and my point was that it wouldn't be crowded if they transformed the whole central park into a giant apartment building, with several floors…
-
RE: Chapter 631: "Gyoncord Plaza" -Discussion
Central Park in New York is roughly 843 acres (3.41 km2) - length of 4kms.
So the population of FI all reside in around the space of Central Park - seems crowded.But FI is three-dimensional, so there are several layers, it is like a giant apartment complex…

@No:
But do we ever see someone who has gotten strong enough to be promoted, but has yet not been promoted ? :ninja:
It just feels all of them are completely worthless in the long run unless they get a coat and tie.
I'm quite sure I remember seeing Smoker saying something like "there are people who are far above my position but have the same level of power as me"…
This also holds true with a sphere of a 15km radius. It would make FI 30km wide and tall. Unless the translators in this forum disagree and know something I don't, the more likely explanation is that Oda wrote 1,50 km and someone removed the coma or Japanese equivalent. But since I wouln't know if this is missable in Japanese writing, I wouldn't wan't to speculate on this.
Regardless of language 1,5 km seems far more likely than 15 kms nevermind 150kms.
Also, just thinking about the scale of the attacks from the strongest people in the world during the War it does not seem logical at all to give it even 15k.
Agreed, I also think that something around 1,5 km is probably what was intended by Oda…
-
RE: Chapter 631: "Gyoncord Plaza" -Discussion
Yeah… Fishman Island is 10 kilometers bellow sea level, and it has a spheric bubble around it, which means that if the bubble had a radius of more than 150 kilometers the top of the bubble should reach far above the sea level... So definitely a mistake.

@ultimateclima:
c-net's trans is up.
http://mangahelpers.com/t/cnet128/releases/30193
The trans confirmed the New Fishman Pirates are taking Neptune with them.
Actually no, it didn't, in fact according to Cnet's translation Hodi doesn't say anything about bringing the King with them, or leaving him in the palace… All Hodi says is that it wouldn't be cool if he (as the 'New King of FI') were to stay locked outside of his own castle (and because of that they are leaving a few men inside to open the gates)...
The fact that they are bringing the King with them was implied in the previous chapter, when Hodi said that he will kill the King in the Gyoncord Plaza... If they are leaving the castle, and intend to kill the King in the Plaza, then they have to bring the King with them to the Plaza...

RE: Storytelling in One Piece
Nice 180°. No one said he changed his storytelling for good. Only that he changed it for Fishman Island.
The initial post of the topic says that this is a topic about the evolution of Oda's storytelling, that implies that it is to talk about the things that he changed and doesn't intend to do the way he used to anymore (therefore the topic is about what we could expect from now on in regards to OP's storytelling, and how it differs from how it was in the past)…
And my point is that I don't think that this arc defines how his storytelling evolved, with time gradual changes to the storytelling are absolutely normal, but the difference here is too big so it is more likely that it is just a proposital exception to his usual storytelling style, and he will go back to a more familiar pace in future arcs.
-
RE: Storytelling in One Piece
I don't think that Oda's storytelling has really changed, my opinion is that he is hurrying with this arc specifically…. It looks to me like he doesn't intend to make this arc one of the really long arcs, and will end it faster than usual, but I believe that he is reserving the long arcs to the New World, where the pace of the arcs should go back to the usual...

RE: Chapter 627: "Indebted" Discussion
Coribou would have to steal a ship to do that, since there's no way they could get a new, coated ship in time (Surume completely destroyed their ship).
Actually, thinking about it, that seems like something that could possibly happen.
Coribou could defeat a weak pirate crew with a coated ship, and take their ship as prize.

@ultimateclima:
Wow. I stalk the one piece podcast facebook page and noticed this wall post which had a pretty interesting theory.
Nine generations would put the original Vander Decken in the Void Century if you assume a generation is about 100 years. The void century lasted from 600-700 AOS and Vander Decken IX first sees Shirahoshi in 1514 AOP.
I'm not going to check if the exact dates are correct, but VDD I would be around the Void Century if generations in the story are the same as human generations here.
The length of one "human generation" is assumed to be of approximately 30 years, not a 100 years…

RE: ALPHA Translation Discussion (Halp Me Stephen!1)
I think that there is a small typo in Volume 17, chapter 152, in the last sentence of page 141:
Luffy: Reibdeeeerrrr!!
I imagine that Luffy said "reindeer" instead of "reibdeer", right? (B and N are side by side in the keyboard, so maybe you pressed the wrong key while typing the word?)

RE: Chapter 627: "Indebted" Discussion
cnet's translation is already up in case anyone is interested
That is great! Thanks!
And there is also this new group MangaZone making super early scanlations of One Piece (and other popular mangas), and they even have a decent translation (at least they didn't make it sound like the king is ordering the children to go capture Vander Decken, and didn't make it look like Nami made only ONE new friend during the fight against Arlong)…
Edit: Hmmm, there was some complete failures in their translation too, the translator totally failed in recognizing the names of Fisher Tiger and Otohime in one bubble...

RE: Chapter 627: "Indebted" Discussion
There'd obviously be preparations made for a funeral. I wouldn't expect those things to hang out there for 10 years.
I figure that the FI kingdom must have den den mushis strategically positioned through the whole island so that they can use it to make announcements when needed… Therefore the reason why that one was there, and also the reason why Hodi is using them to make his announcement.

Norton decides to scare the internet with false rumors
Today, I opened the AP Forums, like always, and what was my surprise? The Norton Safe Web, a protection included in the Norton Internet Security to warn the user about websites who have known security threats, blocks me and says that the APF isn't safe and has 9 security threats, and suggests that I don't access the website.
The list of the supposed threats is here: http://safeweb.norton.com/report/show?url=http://apforums.net&ulang=eng
Can some Admin or some Moderator check it? I doubt there is any real threat, I think it is just some kind of "website unsafety false positive", but it won't cost to check.
Also, the website owner can ask for a re-evaluation of the website, in the case of it being a mistake, or after the removal of the threats. (I would like it, if I could access the APF without getting a warning page everytime I do it, like I used to…)

Well, what may be an important clue in this chapter is that having Shirahoshi by their side the fishman could easily go live in some island in the calm belt…
-
RE: Chapter 625: "Uninherited Will" Discussion
@SGR:
Yes, as I said in the post you quoted:
That's the speech bubble from when they speak.
But that doesn't change the fact it seems to be a mixture of the Fishmen ability to contact people and Super-Haki.
It's more likely that it is just a different sound frequency, a specific frequency that the sea kings listen and respond to…
-
RE: Chapter 625: "Uninherited Will" Discussion
@SGR:
Hmm, on one hand, I can see the arguments for it not being Haki, what with no one else fainting and the bubble being seen before by Fishmen contacting Fish, but… She used it on a situation where she was desperate, just like every other character that had the Super Haki, she was, essentialy, able to subdue non-friendly fish (Which would normally say "fuck off, bitch, I am eating this shark" instead of the friendly guys Jinbe convinced to help him) and the way the Tenryuubito fainted is pretty similar to haki.
I am fairly positive that, if its not Super Haki, Oda intended to make it look so to plot-twist us.
Absolutely not… Are you saying that Camie has CoC too??

RE: Chapter 624: "Queen Otohime" Discussion
i don't get it. whats wont binktopia/mangastream wont use cnet's translation. :|
Binktopia used to use Cnet's translations before they became part of mangastream… But mangastream already had a translator for One Piece (Molokidan), and, if I remember correctly, when the two groups united they said that Cnet's time available to translate didn't match mangastream's work and release schedule (mangastream released chapters 1 or 2 days before the other groups, but Cnet didn't have time available during these days at the time), and binktopia also wasn't very concerned about not having Cnet on board, since according to them to work with Cnet had its difficulties (he has several rules about how his translations should be used, and the group and him had some friction at times, in fact binktopia even used Naruhodo's translations in the last 3 or 4 chapter of OP the group released alone, but Molokidan took over after the groups' union)...
Because they're slow….?
He used to translate fast when he worked with scanlation groups (at the old times when the RAWs used to be online before the scanlations), but then all that ended, and without the responsibility of having to translate fast so that a group could use, he probably only does it when he feels like it or when he has more free time…

RE: Chapter 624: "Queen Otohime" Discussion
The translation of the chapter 624 by Cnet:
http://mangahelpers.com/t/cnet128/releases/29596It's interesting to note that Cnet's translation implies that Arlong was the one who lied to the WG about humans refusing to give blood to Fisher Tiger:
@Cnet:2
[Insert text: Arlong, captured by Kizaru…]
[Box: Following the death of Fisher Tiger, Hero of Slaves… // ...Arlong's hatred for humans grew still stronger, and he turned upon them viciously... // ...only to be captured...]
Arlong: If it weren't for that damn refusal… he could have lived!! // If we had only had some fishman blood… Fisher Tiger wouldn't have died!! // You filthy humans... // ...drove him to his death!!!!3
[Box: The Grand Line; The Sun Pirates' ship]
Jimbei: "Due to the humans refusing to offer a blood transfusion… // ...Fisher Tiger, captain of the Sun Pirates... / ...met his end." // ......It is not too far from the truth......... // After all, the ultimate blame for his death...... / ...does lie with the humans... // Arlong must have lied to the Marines…...
Aladdin: It was the humans that betrayed him… and his grudge against the humans that led him to refuse the transfusion. / And of course, there is his past as a slave… The truth is crueller still. // It would cast a stain upon his honour... // Arlong would not reveal such things.
Jimbei: Quite…Now it makes sense, the idea that Arlong said the truth but the WG changed it to blame the humans didn't make sense to me, but Arlong telling a lie (about the humans refusing to give him blood) to protect Tiger's honour makes sense…
Also, nothing about Arlong saying that he will take the slaves with him:
@Cnet:Arlong: Our Big Bro is dead!! So I'm going back to my old crew - the Arlong Pirates!! // And I'm taking my old comrades with me!!!
He only took the old members of his crew back.

RE: Chapter 624: "Queen Otohime" Discussion
T refers to Strawberry 小将 (Shoushou; Rear Admiral) in the spoiler summary.
As for Fisher Tiger scaling the Red Line. I have a feeling that he explained to his fellow fishmen/mermen that he was a slave?
Then again, I have read only Naruhodo's translation and have yet to read the original thing, though, so I might be a little confused here.Yes, Naruhodo's translation caused this confusion… The right translation shows that Fisher Tiger was indeed a slave, but he escaped (came back to FI, and had that talk with the king), and then he climbed the Red Line back to Mariejoa and freed the slaves...

RE: Chapter 623: "The Pirate Fisher Tiger"
I was thinking that Kizaru wants to take Arlong back to (one of) the tenryuubito who had Tiger as a slave. Kind of like a compensation.
But then you think about Arlong's, possible, rule in Jinbe joining the Shichibukai, and I don't see why the tenryuubito would care about peace between races to let Arlong go in some kind of deal.
I've posted that theory several pages ago:My prediction is that the Tenryuubito ordered the marines to bring sun pirates to be their slaves, as revenge against Tiger for what he did, and Borsalino intends to bring Arlong to the Tenryuubito, but Jinbe will intervene and somehow make a deal with the WG to let Arlong and the other sun pirates go, and be free, in exchange for him becoming a Shichibukai… And that is how he ended considering himself responsible for Arlong's actions in East Blue, since it was thanks to him that Arlong was free to do what he did, and it was also thanks to him that even though the marines knew about his evil doings, they didn't do a thing against Arlong, because of the deal Jinbe made with the WG.
The tenryuubito doesn't care about it, but instead it would be the WG who would have an interest in having Jinbe as an ally, and they would be the ones to try to make a deal with him, Jinbe's conditions to become a shichibukai would include Arlong's release, and if Arlong had been turned into a slave already by the time Jinbe makes the deal, the WG are the ones who would have to deal with the tenryuubito to get Arlong (they probably would purchase him from them, or something).

RE: Chapter 623: "The Pirate Fisher Tiger"
People stop with these stupid excuses that it wasn't the guns that killed FT or that they were elite marines.
THEY CLEARLY WEREN'T and as much as I love OP, if this isn't explained it is a plot hole
Stop overlooking what he did. HE FREED SLAVES FROM MARIEJOA!!! There MUST BE ELITE MARINES THERE! This is the freaking celestial dragons we're talking about. Stop trying to cover it up. It makes no sense how Tiger did it. Now maybe if he had help or the guards there did not have weapons than perhaps…....... but still come on Oda its not like you to do this. Maybe FT had loads of armor on him??? A simple add on like that would seal this whole plot hole
We know nothing about how he freed the slaves from Mariejoa… As far as we know he may have done it furtively, setting fire and bombs throughout the whole city to draw the guards and marines attention, and used the diversion to sneak the slaves out of the city without having to fight against many really strong enemies.
Besides Strawberry was there, you can't just dismiss him, he definitely could have been a chalenge to Tiger... And you also have to remember that the sun pirates actually succeded in escaping, and Tiger would be fine had he received blood, he was even counscious and talking, so the marines weren't so much a threat, he died mostly because he refused to receive human blood than anything else...

@Mr.:
Does he have the renown yet though? As far as we know his bounty is still 76 mill, unless he worked his way up to 250 since then. I doubt it, since he was only a second mate at that point and fisher's bounty would need to be significantly higher.
I believe he does… But it is also possible that Arlong lived some time as a slave, and Jinbe had to work his way up to reach the status necessary to become a Shichibukai, and only then he made the deal and Arlong was freed.

Fishman Island should be a two year arc by all rights.
It looks like Oda is trying to avoid another Skypiea and to do it in one.
Which is a shame.
I've said it several chapters ago, that it looked like Oda was making things move too fast in this arc, and that I was with the impression that he didn't intend to make a long arc out of it… Nobody agreed with me at the time...

RE: Databook: "One Piece Green"
The cover stories are definitely pointless, but the explanations on Oda's design sketches are very interesting. Too bad it's on the end of the book, we'll probably have to wait a long time for them to get translated.
I assume that you meant that translating the part of the DB about the cover stories is pointless, right? Because the cover stories definitely are not pointless.

RE: Questions That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread
I read all of the newest chapters on MangaStream, but I'm rereading it, and I cant find a good site. I've been using Mangareader, but I absolutely CANNOT stomach this terrible translation by Psycho Duck and Vee. Several other manga sites seem to use their translation as well. Can someone help?
I don't think you will find any scanlation of the beginning of OP with good translations, what you can do is either buy the tanks as someone suggested, or you can read better translations who weren't used in scanlations (and use the RAWs or the scanlations to follow the images), such as stephen's translations (he translated up to chapter 545).
And for newer chapters I recommend Cnet's translations, or better yet scanlations who uses his translations, they are much better than those used in mangastream's scanlations…
-
RE: Chapter 622: "The Pirate of Sun" Discussion
We may not have reliable complete translations of the chapters anymore… Because it looks like Cnet isn't translating anymore.
We are in the middle of the golden week after chapter 622, and yet there has been no new translations made by Cnet since chapter 619. He hasn't posted any new translation on Mangahelpers or Franky-House forum since then, nor of OP or of the other mangas he translates ('Mahou Sensei Negima!' and 'Bleach'). Making me suspect that Cnet may have completely stopped translating mangas...
So we not only don't have Stephen's translations anymore, but may also not have Cnet's translation anymore... Which is terrible news (at least for me), and means that we are gonna have to rely only on Aohige's posts about mistakes made on Mangastream's translations, and won't have a 'database' to check when looking for a reliable source of translation to use as base for a theory or to defend an argument. :sad:
(But I'm still hoping that I'm mistaken and that he is just taking a break or something...)
-
RE: Questions That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread
To be honest, I wonder what was Teach's primary reason for getting the Yami Yami no Mi in the first place. I mean, I know his main goal was to "absorb the 'entity' of Devil's Fruit users", thus rendering their powers useless, but isn't Haki pretty much the same thing? (That is, CoA Haki, of course…) Unless he has other ambitions he plans to fulfill with it...other than that, though, and its massively destructive power, I don't see any other point.
That is, unless it was also used to "absorb" the DF power of Whitebeard, although such a theory has often been debated over since its conception..
Haki doesn't make people unable to use their DF power… It just allows the CoA Haki user to hit a with a DF power directly as if the person didn't have its power, which isn't the same as to make the person with a DF power unable to use his DF power.

RE: Official Fishman Island Discussion
Those aren't necessarily bubble layers. You can see the water outside of that tunnel and there's no sign of any bubbles connected to the lines.
The water is inside the tunel, not outside… The tunel is a tube bubble filled with water who is conected to the entrance when they open the path to the Palace, as we can see here: http://www.mangareader.net/one-piece/612/11
And those are definitely bubble layers. We can see those layers every time the inside of the tunel was shown.
@Don:
Yeah i missed that part, but i also don
t get why you
re drawing the conclusion that such bubble engineers have to exist to create something as normal as bubble-tubes
http://www.hood.de/img1/full/1498/14985266.jpg
Its simple to make bubble tubes and i don
t deny the fact that FI sure has experts for bubble-tubes.
But still those shapes so far seen arent something that need to be stabilized. That those engineers could create shapes that aren
t natural(like when two bubbles fuse together with both keeping their circular shape) is so far just your fantasy, or have i missed somehwere a square bubble or something that isn`t circular or in a tube-form, which both are possible without problems for bubbles?You are failing to grasp the concept of stable here… Bubble tubes aren't stable, they have the tube form during a little time only, then they tend to compact, trying to reach the equilibrium form, which is the spheric form. Here is a video:
(Though most of the bubbles in the video explodes before reaching a form close to that of a sphere, they all tend to compact to reach the spheric form…)So, to be able to make stable bubble tubes, capable of staying in that form for long periods of time, the FI engineers must have some means to stabilize bubbles in different shapes (shapes which otherwise would be unstable and tend to reach the equilibrium form).

RE: Official Fishman Island Discussion
First of all, I haven't seen any sign that there's more than 5. Second of all, he wouldn't have to draw all of them at that distance. He'd just have to draw it in a way that made it obvious there were more than two bubbles. As in, not in the exact same way as the one below it.
Well, then look again: http://www.mangareader.net/one-piece/616/12
Loking at the conector corridor of the Palace's entrance from the inside, you can see at least 9 circles in it (in the transverse of it), which means that there are at least 9 layers. And that panel is showing only part of the corridor.
I'm sorry, but there's no sign that Ryuugu Palace is bigger than Water Wheel Village (where Fukaboshi seemed to fit quite comfortably) or any of those other towns. Those places don't show up in those pictures either. It's too much detail in too small a space to attempt, like trying to draw houses on a world map.
Why are you guys discussing sizes when we are talking about Oda and One Piece?? Just ignore it, almost anything is possible in this regard… Oda isn't really one who worries about size consistency.
Maybe you don't understand. In that second link, the upper bubble would have to be in front of the lower one (so they're the same distance away from the point of view) in order for your theory to work. At least that's what the geometry should dictate. Otherwise more overlap would be needed.
I'm still not getting your geometry logic… How could they be in front of the other if they were at the same distance from the point of view? The smalller would be almost completely inside the bigger bubble instead...
For one thing, we have no idea how far away the bubble is in that picture. For all we know it's a kilometer back and huge. And yes, the kingdom is absolutely massive. Oda could draw a thousand panels without even facing the direction of the palace.
If there was only one image of the 2 bubbles, I would agree that this was a possibility… But we have 2 images from different perspectives of the same objects, they together are enough to determine that the bubbles are in fact close to one another, and that the upper bubble is smaller (your brain does it all the time with your eyes images, making the same kind of analisys with those images is simple enough)... The only doubt still left is how close they are (close enough to merge?), since we can't tell from those perspectives.
@Don:
When a bubble is on top of another bubble it has to look like that:
http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_VJm8uqU7KKg/TIqBBRCazuI/AAAAAAAAAiM/pmwsB2-JzL0/s1600/Seifenblase.bmpand that isn
t obviously the case here [http://www.mangareader.net/one-piece/612/11](http://www.mangareader.net/one-piece/612/11) Even when those bubbles have multiple layers, at least one should be like the pic above shows.. That perspective may not be the best, but it clearly shows that the higher bubble is still perfectly circled..which means that it can
t be connected to the main bubble (besides a long bubble-street) which could be hidden by that perspective.You obvioulsy didn't follow the discussion about the FI's engineers and their ability to stabilize bubbles at what should be unstable shapes (like the bubbles in shape of tubes to form those swimming tubes). So both bubbles being spheric (or aproximately spheric) isn't something difficult for them.
