      For me, the most interesting fights are those in which they use or are related to their unique skills, like Robin versus Yama, or Sanji vs Wanze.

      Of course, those can't happen every arc, but when they do, they're awesome.

      @Robby:

      The meaning was NEVER literally "it'll end five years to the day". From the minute he said it, no one who knew his habits believed it. Like, even if he meant exactly that he'd still be off by a few months no matter what.

      But the actual meaning, the intent."there's only a few arcs left, I'm entering the endgame and want to wrap it up" are pretty clear. Especially since he keeps saying it and doubling down.

      I remember there were people in this very forum who believed him completely though.

      I think it will be like 300 chapters or so after the end of Wano. I'm also looking forward to Elbaf, or whatever next island/arc is going to be, that will tell us a lot about how long One Piece has left.

      @Vongola_Boss_XI:

      I just think it's worth considering Oda's perspective that readership refreshes every five years and the fact that that exact timeframe has been estimated three consecutive years in a row. I'm not saying he isn't intentionally working toward the conclusion or that this isn't the 'endgame', but Oda's arcs and stories always longest in the last leg.

      Case in point, he always gets to the actin portion of his story arcs before the midpoint in terms of chapter count. His setup is always quicker than his resolution. It's just his writing style.

      The setup is 1024 chapters long, so the final phase is longer? Is that what you're saying? Just kidding, I think it will last 300-400 chapters after the end of Wano

      That never really happened in One Piece though. It's a classic HxH's or Jojo's scenario, but in One Piece the fruit user always explains his ability beforehand. The conflict is pinned on how to counter it. Even Sugar's fruit was already known; the dwarves had all info drilled into Robin, Usopp and the reader before facing her.

      Always? I dont know why, but I kinda remember some instances in which the character did not mentioned his/her fruit beforehand… Is this some case of Mandella effect? :ninja:

      @kevo_koma:

      Not completely sure, but I think he mentioned having to master 99 ingredients or something in Punk Hazard.

      Also, I know I mentioned that Wano should have been Sanji's arc and not Zoro. But I don't mean that the complete focus should have been him.

      I just expected that since Oda established a food theme in Wano, he would want to utilize the character whose based on food. He could have easily not included food problems in Wano.

      Because think about it like this.

      Ever since Sanji joined the crew Wano is the one and only arc that has had a problem specifically centered on food.

      The entire first act of Wano was all about how a young girl fed our hero simple rice and she had to drink poisoned water to quench hunger.

      No other arc in One Piece, absolutely none, has ever had such a scenario.

      Alabasta, FI, SA, Skypeia, Water 7 were all striving kingdoms. The others, the only spent a day there.

      So, why would Oda neglect Sanji, in the one arc where he specifically sets up a problem that only he is qualified of resolving.

      LoL, am I really the only one who see taht this doesn't make any goddamn sense??

      Nami started showing she cares about kids in Punk Hazard.

      Sanji has been caring about starving people since his first introduction.

      Why are we getting panels of Nami caring about a kid. and absolutely none of Sanji even having a reaction to starving people?

      Especially since we spent an entire arc getting to know him again.

      I understand your point. You are saying that Oda is ignoring a big part of Sanji's character, which is that he always feeds people that are hungry, no matter who they are. This was seen also un WCI, and there hasn't been any mention about in Wano.

      I don't know how Oda could have handle it though, but it certainly should have been an important emotional point. Many people here are saying that Sanji should not blow his cover, and so on, but thats not the point. The point is that Sanji has not said a thing about it. Not Even a panel.

      So, yeah, this is not how Sanji would behave in this circumstance. At least, he should show that part of his character, even if he doesnt act because of reasons. But no, he is spying women, when people are dying of hunger… Yeah, no way he would have done that, not Sanji.

      Considering it says film, could we expect this movie to be supervised by Oda, like Gold, Z and Strong World, rather than something made completely by Toei?

      Anyway, I have mixed opinions about One Piece "films", my favorite of those is Z and then Strong World, I don't like Gold very much though, Tesoro as a villiain was too similar to Doflamingo and I expected more regarding character interactions…

      Even though Z is My favorite, I would love something more adventure-focused as Strong World.

      Yeah, I would love a movie with lots of SHs interactions that feel very in character and lots of amazing aventures and scenarios rather than something like Stampede, which I liked very much.

      There hasnt been a lot of that lately, perhaps the villiain could be more of a paramecia rather than someone powerful and strong like Kaidou or Bullet, with lots of fights and epicness, which for me has become a little bit tiresome if there arent enough SHs interactions or aventures, I would also like to see the Grand Fleet involved.

      Although thats what I want, I think it may be more similar to Wano.

      –- Update From New Post Merge ---

      This is a new dub, with an entirely new casting process. There are many reasons the one here couldnt have returned. Could've not auditioned, or refused to (dont know if it was an open or closed audition process). Or hell theres even a possibility he could've been in the running, but the director genuinely preferred the new one for one reason or another. Hostile perhaps wasn't the right word and I apologize if I was rude, but one casting choice really shouldn't be a reason to cry nepotism. If this is a recurring thing then sure, but I think you're being a bit too harsh for how little info there is out there.

      You don't need to watch anything else to know that the previous one was way better than this, and if you include what I said, and knowing that in Mexico there's a lot of nepotism, it's obvious to know what happened. Dont be afraid to ask for better voice acting and so on. But keep in mind Labo is just the studio. TOEI is the client that commissioned the dub.

      It is nepotism because they changed a better voice actor for Usopp in favor of the brother-in-law of the dub's director, of course it is! And SDI Media is very closely related to Labo, so…

      Yes, I know, Toei asked to the dub director to use his brother-in-law instead of a better one, yes, I will believe that... You're strangely angry, are you related to those families? Are they family to you?

Its just Usopp. If we tell Alejandro and Arturo Castañeda about our concerns they might listen. Also, you shouldnt contact the studio anyway. They dont decide what goes. Toei does. Ask THEM.

      A friend is very knowledgeable about mexican dubs, and he has told me that this studio (SDI Media) in Mexico is controlled by a certain family, which through nepotism and friends have been delivering bad results because they only hire those that are from their family, friends, and they underpay other occasional good voice actors… They've used fansubs for some other dubs and I hope this changes, if we send a complain to SDI Media, they will hear us.

      Ch. 96: The Greatest Evil in the East

      I get the feeling that the futures envisioned by all these factions may be “evil,” to some degree. The Marines pursue justice, law, and order — but internally, each individual takes actions according to his own moral
      compass (which ends up disastrous under despots like Morgan and Akainu).

      The World Government and the Military sanction genocide, child experimentation, human trafficking, slavery, drug production, and illicit weapons trade.

      Certain pirates are given legal right to depose governments and run amok (Crocodile; Doflamingo). Others are able to hold entire territories due to their power.

      And then you have forces of pure chaos and anarchy… Eustass Kid and Blackbeard.

      Yet Shanks aims to preserve balance? Why?

      Always years.

      For all the reasons I listed above. There is no chapter or volume goal. Chapter counts are relative to the random factor of author's whims and Jump breaks. Hitting a chap or volume number is playing a 12-digit lottery. Hitting years is hitting a 4-digit lottery.

      I'm not talking about an specific chapter or volume, but a range, for me I think that chapter counts are better because they don't depend on Jump breaks, while year counts do because there might be less chapters in a year because of those breaks.

      Oda statements are determined. There's zero reason to doubt the resolution behind them. But the man gets ideas, wants to do a proper job, and ends up expanding his story. Do people not recognize the pattern here? I think he can absolutely wrap in 5 (or are we holding him to 4 from last year's statement?) if he wants to. No question! But will he? Doubt it. That comes with the caveat, I don't think it will be as long as some optimists project. But OP ending on its 30th anniversary is where I'd be comfy placing my bet now.

      Do you think "years" should be the proper metric regarding how much One Piece is left? I think we should rather be talking about chapters or volumes, especially when we take into account that Oda will probably be taking more breaks from now on. I'd say the ending should be aroung 1300-1400 chapters. If you're talking 7 years more, 39 chapters per year (or how many do you calculate?), it would be 1273 or so, right?

    • RE: Greg: Teacher of SUPER " OP " course !

      @DaphneDescends:

      I'd be interested in knowing why he thinks はい。 (Yes) is definitely not being used as an introductory sentence because, as he says, it is used that way in Japanese often enough. The reason I bring it up is because Oda follows with "やめるっていうか", Yameru meaning to quit something and teiuka being a phrase you use when trying to rephrase something (i.e., or rather, I mean, etc.) and then goes on to say the mystery of One Piece will end in five years. The story of what One Piece is and the actual whole story completing are two different things, so that he said ていうか to specify his meaning on One Piece ending and followed with saying that Luffy's journey to finding out what One Piece is will be ending suggest to me that he's saying Luffy will be on Laugh Tale in five years, which given the foreshadowing of the story would be saying that the actual finale starts in five years, not ends in it. If he wanted to say the final chapter of the manga would be published in about five years, I don't see why he would he respond by specifying that we will find out what One Piece is in five years as opposed to just saying "Yes. The series will conclude in five years.".

      There might be some twist, but he says literally that because the most interesting part of Luffy's adventure will conclude, it will end. That's what Greg is referring to, he already said that "hai" might mean what you say too. Anyway, there might be some twist like the series will continue, or that it will change its name because it's no longer One Piece, or who knows, because Luffy's adventure will continue. Will we see the rest of Luffy's adventure? That's the question.

      I really don't get it and would really like to know, why Stephen changed this specific word. I've been just comparing the Kanji as I have no knowledge of japanese language; In this chapter the word for dawn is 夜明け (yoake) - the same as in chapter 877 when Pedro speaks to Carrot and as in 973 when Toki speaks of the dawn. Only difference is that in chapter 987 there are quatation marks when Kin says it - maybe that's the reason why they changed it? It's more than obvious that the dawn of the next day in-universe is symbolically connected to the big Dawn of the world - so why change it?

      ! https://i.imgur.com/UMXzxZQ.pnghttps://i.imgur.com/hXGEsI8.jpghttps://i.imgur.com/cWzyi9f.png

      He probably changed it because samurais talk in an archaic way, using でござる, and this was his way of using a little bit more "obscure" or "ancient" words, although not as archaic as the samurais, of course.

      I don't really care if he does it in 5, 7, 10 years or more, if he covers everything he was intended to tell us, without rushing anything and adding new stories and characters as he sees fit.

      @wolfwood:

      So i guess the major camps are

      -It's just a PR trick

      -Oda doesn't know what he'll be up against / can't plan

      -It's probably legit but will have a schedule slip

      -If he said he'll do it he'll do it

      Would be interesting to see a poll on it to see how it is spread out.

      Yeah, I think this should be made a thread on its own.

      Let us not forget that the editor himself contradicted Oda regarding his prediction. He later had to rectify and say that if Oda follows the same pace as in Wano, it might be possible. But we don't see any major changes, yes, it is a little bit faster in some aspects, but even at this pace I can't see how it can wrap up in 4 years.

      And let's not forget this happens at a point in which One Piece's sales have slowed down a little, right? So, I believed it was a marketing scheme to attract more viewers, in this announcement in One Piece Magazine, it says "time to reread", so there's marketing in this.

      I got worried because they keep repeating it, but the facts and evidence do not point towards One Piece ending in 4 years whatsoever. I'd say 8 years at the very least.

      Also Oda never said that One Piece would end in 4 years, he said that he wanted to end One Piece in 4 years now.

      @zeltrax225:

      It can all come to a close in less than half a decade and 4-5 years is enough buffer for pacing without it feeling like a cramped abridged version of what he wanted.

      Are you saying 4-5 years after Wano, right? Because Wano might last 1 to 2 years more…

      When Dressrosa ended, and Doflamingo said his famous speech about the "throne wars", I thought that if Dressrosa lasted 100 chapters, and we know there might be 5 more sagas or arcs (one for every Yonkou and one more for the WG), I predicted the series would end on chapter 1300, based on 100 chapters for every saga.

      So far, Big Mom has not been defeated, nor Kaidou is 20 chapters close to that. I mean, Big Mom and Kaidou's arcs are taking longer than 100 chapters each since that point.

      Even if after the end of Wano, Oda manages to develop the final three arcs (Shanks, Blackbeard and WG), even if they are connected or specially if they are connected, considering how long he took with Kaidou and Big Mom, 300 chapters more seems to be a very conservative estimate. Because now some of those characters will probably take part on the final war too.

      If Wano ends in chapter 1050, that's 125 chapters for Kaidou and Big Mom individually. If he repeats this (without considering all the setup from Gyojin Island and so on...), for the three big sagas left, it would mean One Piece would end on 1425, but we know that the final arc might be longer than that because there are many plot points left, or he will probably add more.

      Someone has mentioned here too that in Naruto, the final saga lasted a third of the time of the entire series. If we believe the final arc will start on 1050, and considering One Piece has a plot more interconnected and complex than Naruto, if the final arc is a third of the entire series, that would mean, we have 525 more chapters.

      That's why I'm now thinking it will last between 400-500 chapters more.
