Chapter 148: https://readms.net/r/vinland_saga/148/4980/1
Oh oh! Thorfin is back. Looks like things are going to come to a head between Hild and Thorfin. Unless Gudrid steps in of course.

RE: One Piece Chapter 881: Room of Waves
Without reading this thread I would not know what the hell is going on with Luffy. It's rare for One Piece that Oda can't bring his point across. The Green Room stuff was nice though.

RE: Chapter 875: A Woman's Honor
That was some
like stuff from Nami! Awsome! -
RE: Chapter 872: "Soft and Fluffy"
However, i still feel Underwhelmed. One of the 4 strongest pirate crews panic and apparently go into desperation (besides Katakuri and the strongest of guys out there) from a single castle collapse? Its good plot armor for the SHs to escape, but it should have been into brief seconds whilst moment after Mom's crew start chasing them. Im okay with Mom having an appetite attack right now, its convenient with all that happened.
You might want to go back to chapter 1 and take a look at the Red Hair Pirates letting that mountain robber dude escape with Luffy as his hostage after he threw a single smoke grenade:ninja:

RE: Berserk
She wants to see someone. Faranese thinks it's Guts, but I have a feeling she is talking about her son.
-
RE: Berserk
Before reading, I wanted nothing more than progress on the Casca plot. After reading, I am very pleased to have gotten the Guts-Serpico-Roderick scene. When was the last time Guts had real heart-to-heart conversation? Surely there must have been once since the Golden Age ended, right? The fact that it happened in the same chapter as a callback to the Campfire of Dreams moment is a nice parallel.
I agree, erneast human interaction is good for this series. I am looking forward to Cascas continued dreamworld adventures. And yes, something will have to happen that triggers the rest of the series / the group leaving. I wonder how much time will have passed for the rest of the world when they finally leave Elfheim.

RE: Berserk
Ch. 349 spoilers: [http://berserk2016.com/manga/chapter/berserk-chapter-349-raw-spoilers/
Q](http://berserk2016.com/manga/chapter/berserk-chapter-349-raw-spoilers/)uote from reddit:
! I'm not fluent in Japanese, but I can auto translate the gist of it.
! Although, there will likely be a few mistakes when the official translation comes out. In Casca's mind, Schierke brought along the flame wheel and golem from her own dream in case they'd be useful. They end up seeing the memory of Guts and Casca after Guts slayed 100 men to save her (the so called Bonfire of Dreams moment). I don't think they recognized Gut's back at first, but they describe Casca feeling calm and peaceful during this moment. Something appears in front of them which is what I believe to be a fragment of Doll Casca's body. Schierke manages to get the Flame wheel and Golem back to full power and they fight off the flying creatures that attacked the Dog in the last chapter.
! There's a party going on with Isidro bragging about his exploits, Isma getting drunk and showing off her mermaid tail, Azan partying with trolls, and Magnifico and Puck complaining about having to help serve and clean up. Guts is by himself staring at the tree when Roderick and Serpico come over. Serpico tells him not to worry about Farnese because having to protect Casca helped make her stronger. -

RE: Forced Listening Thread
Feels very constructed and unnatural, which I guess is the point of the song. Sooo, success? xD
Would not listen again tough. Too crazy for untrained ears.Babymetal aka. mixing metal and idol music, aka. triggering Manowar fans

that poor golem, he had to take on Saitama-Natsu team up, he didn't have any chance of winning

RE: Raking leaves
light the yard on fire
Only works for S and A tier leaves though. Unless you use copious amounts of fire accelerant…
My parents have a huge walnut tree. I remember raking E Tier stuff for weeks D: -
RE: Chapter 841: To the East Blue
What is it with Oda and enslaving snails?
Probably him collecting snails in a box as a kid.

RE: Vinland Saga
Vinland Saga is on break this month :( however there is a silver lining, last months chapters end note said there would be a little extra in 132 when it comes out in October :)

RE: Chapter 839: "I Shall Never Forget The Debt That I Owe You"
I didn't expect this weeks chapter to start with Nazi Germa(ny) pulling out of the League of Nations. Complete with eagle, banners, runic S and human experiments and total disregard for the lifes of everybody else.

RE: Your duration as a One Piece fan
My first new chapter was 441 "Duel on Banaro Island" So 18/01/2007. Coming up on ten years!
I was watching the anime since it first came out before that. -
RE: Berserk
That was pretty trippy. I wish I had a big format paper version of it right now. So much stuff going on in these panels.
-
RE: Vinland Saga
Wasn't Thors resigning anyway?
Well you can resign but you can never truly leave. The Jomsvikings are like Hotel California. Just look how they dragged Thorfinn back..
Anyway, great chapter :)
-
RE: Berserk
@James:
Finally read all the chapters. Now got to play the waiting game like the rest of the older readers.
The nice thing about Berserk is that the breaks are so long that you start to forget about the manga. And then a year later you suddenly think: Hey I wonder if there are any more Berserk chapters out? And then theres 5 new chapters or so.
-
RE: Vinland Saga
Baldr looks like a worthless shit…
Well you never know, Canute wasn't born a ruthless King either :P
-
RE: Berserk
What a nice chapter. Really cool to see them all in a save place where thier actions are not dominated but absolute fight for survival and advance. It's kind of like the Fellowship of the Ring reaching Lothlórien.@Robby:
Seriously, they've been travelling with Guts all this time and didn't know he was in the Hawks? Or that he was the 100 man slayer? Really?I get that Guts wouldn't want to talk about that much but you'd think it would have come up.
That surprised me as well. Shows you how different Guts' crew is compared to the Strawhats. I can vividly remember Oda putting in little hints after the timeskip that they told each other about thier adventures during the two years apart. As he said in this chapter. He does not like to think (and talk apparently) about his past.

Pretty much. Could have spend that money on music or story writing.

RE: Berserk
@Monkey:
Ok great, me too. Would you advise an adaptation of Vagabond to skip Musashi's younger years as a punk teenager?
No, and I never said that about Berserk.
-
RE: Berserk
@Monkey:
You say this like someone completely disinterested in the Black Swordsman aspect of Gutts lol. Which subjectively I find bizarre, since that part of Gutts is interesting and seeing him slowly emerge from it is cool and good.
Not completly disinterested but I'm more interested in his character before he became the black swordsman and in what he may yet turn into, yes. The berserker Gatts is a necassary but hopefully temporary stage in his life. In the same way I am more fond of Takezou after he becomes Musashi and the later Thorfin in Vinland Saga.
@Monkey:Also the arcs are cool and full of great classic Berserk moments. Objectively its still important! If you're hyperfocused on the (definitely not fast paced) stuff ever since it ended….its because you even know and give a shit who half those characters are based on the developments and introductions they have during Retribution. None of them make any sense without seeing how they got there in the first place. The whole Beast side of Gutts doesn't make any sense without seeing him living that reality day to day as we do in Lost Children and somewhat in Albion. Farnese...who the heck is she if we don't see her transformation from nasty brat inquistor to softened desperate Farnese as we know her after Albion.
Her obsession with Gutts (beyond the romantic angle) is based entirely on the Albion events.
And of course Griffith's return. All of the above is true, it certainly has it's place in the manga. I meerly think it is a bit slower paced than the rest of it. It takes much longer to intoduce this second cast than it did for the first one.
-
RE: Berserk
I think the premise of the whole Retribution story as sort of restart for the main story after the long flashback makes it too long for what it's meant to be. Isn't it like 8-10 volumes before Giffith is back, things start moving again and we have the new main cast group assambled? I always thought the story was moving at the slower pace vol. 13-23 than it did before and has since then. Maybe that's why Lost Children it has a sort of fillerish feel to it for you, Robby.

RE: Vinland Saga
I cannot comprehend how lots of people clamour to have Prologue Saga Thorfinn back.
I just can't.
They do? Thats news to me. I heard lots of praise about this manga, but juvenile Thorfins personality ain't what it was about :P
-
RE: Vinland Saga
Randomly came across the newest chapter and surprisingly I saw the city I live in being mentioned - which is a first, so now I'm definitely interested.
Is this manga worth reading?
It's quite good. Well worth the read if you are somewhat interested in stories that mix history with fiction. Also, when you start reading from the first chapter, know that it was running in a shounen magazine first and then switched to a seinen one after a while. Also going from weekly to monthly publication doing so. Imo it got a whole lot better when it did. So keep reading through those early chapters.

I could have sworn the old panel was bigger

RE: Chapter 822: Descending the Elephant
What the hell is wrong with the artwork on those ships and the lines they are dangeling from on page 1?
!
They look like they have been printed onto Zunishas leg or something. I'm not an artist, but that looks like wrong perspective to me. It's like there is no distance between the lines they are hanging on the leg. Haven't seen anything like that in One Piece for a while. -
RE: Berserk
It's hard not to be when you see this
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/34981911/images/1411181220261.jpgWhat are the chances they replicate this faithfully in the anime?
none I would say
The chances might be better than you think. Anime usually has less of a problem with depicting Christianity in a negative way than US or EU tv series, because the Japanese are not culturally sensitive to all things Christian. Now the horse rapes scenes on the other hand I'm not so sure about lol
-
RE: Helck
Nice chapter! Azus death was not on panel. Age old question really, is he dead or is he not? :P

RE: History enthusiasts
I think I am a history enthusiast as well. :P Currently my favourite subjects the Great War (1.WW), the transition of Spaceflight from science fiction to science and are the origin of writing.
I'm been following a Youtube Channel that looks at the ongoings of the 1.WW on a week by week basis exacly 100 years after it happened: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLB2vhKMBjSxMK8YelHj6VS6w3KxuKsMvT&ab_channel=TheGreatWar Obviously the war has been going on for 85 weeks already. But I'm sure we will be home by Christmas! :ninja:
I've heard multiple lectures on the spaceflight thing on the side in a past few years. The sources are not always easy to find. Luckly I know English, German and a bit of Russian so I can read most of them. I started out with Jule Verne and I'm now at the switch from private to state sponsored spaceflight in the year 1932. Basically the mirror point from where we might be today.
I've been interested in the origins of the concept of writing since I first heard that the idea to put the fleeting spoken word into a permanent form had only been developed independently three times in the history of mankind. Obviouly this is a very different kind of history as I have no chance to understand or even get any primary sources. So it's mostly a wikipedia and youtube kind of thing. If you are interested in ancient languages in general you might like this: https://www.youtube.com/user/Xidnaf/videos?&ab_channel=Xidnaf

RE: Helck
I stumbled into this thread by accident 4 hours ago. By chapter 3 I had almost stopped reading it. I didn't. Now I'm at chapter 54. o.O
I can't believe this manga got so good so quickly. How do you make a gag manga with a Berserk backstory? lolAnyway, I'll take a break now and proabably read the rest tomorrow. Awsome stuff!

RE: Everyone is getting a second flash back?
Interesting idea. It certainly seems like Oda is willing to pick up tiny loose strings from the very early chapters. I wonder which characters have gaps in thier backstories that might be filled in a Vinsmoke kind of way.
Luffy: We might get a little bit more once he meets his father in person. We have not seen or heard anything about his mother at all. Seems like a pretty big oversight to not show both the main characters parents. Especially when one of them is such a major figure in the world. You would expect there to be as least some info about his other parent.
Zoro: We've not seen him before the Dojo but I don't feel like we are missing something here. What could Zoro possibly have to say about his relatives anyway? He doesn't get all emotional unless it's about swordsmanship. I don't think we will get anything there.
Ussop: I think we've seen it all. We might get a little bit with Yassop but there don't seem to be any big gaps to fill. Since he is the member of the crew that readers are meant to project themselves into, having little backgroundstory is actually pretty good in his case.
Sanji: Well yeah..
Nami: She was an infant when Bellemere took her in. I doubt she would remember anything from the war or her real parents. I'd say Fishman Island was the last chance for a flashback for her. We didn't get one, so I'm not expecting one.
Chopper: He was a reindeer. Not much to say there.
Robin: The porneglyphs and the five elders / forgotten century, the shady organisations she joined to survive, her revolutionary connections. There's a lot of potential for more Robin flashbacks and backstory.
Franky: Well there's the thing with his parents that dumped him… Do we really want to meet these people? Is he going to like them / hate them? Does he care? He's not as indifferent as Zoro. He is a family man. He build even his own Franky Family. And he does shed tears a lot. I'm not sure. Maybe, maybe not.
Brook: We need more Brook backstory. I hope we get some. I think we will. Maybe it ties in with the Vinsmokes maybe it's somthing else. He lived a long life and saw a lot of world before he joined. Although most of it is 50 years in the past and on the first half of the Grand Line.
Jinbei: I don't know what it might be yet, but I think we do need a bit more knowledge about him and where he's coming from.

RE: Vinland Saga
I think Thorkell is smelling blood. He will try to fight Thorfin for sure. Interesting! Also some nice worldbuilding scenes on the market there.
-
RE: Forced Listening Thread
Nice and catchy tune with funky vocals. I enjoyed it. Pretty crazy they had that on the conservative local Bavarian television in the 60s :D
I guess cause it was the American zone? Anyway I got a kick out of that.Next up: The Rite of Spring aka. the trollface of classical music
Only one part. I don't want to drive you mad -
RE: Chapter 816: "Dog Vs. Cat"
Wow! This is magnificent. You can see Luffy gleaming! This is the stuff that he is made off.
-
RE: Chapter 812: Capone "Gang" Bege
So I guess Sanji is from some sort of Mafia family, huh? Interesting, didn't see an arranged marriage coming in One Piece :P
-
RE: Berserk
I don't care about CG or not. It has to be decently good looking and telling parts of the story that are not animated yet. That's all it take for me to give it a shoot.

RE: Top-Selling Manga 2015 in Japan
How did the Whitebeard war make the series explode like that in 2010 and 2011? Was it because of all the major hyped of characters fighting? Because Naruto had its own war arc and it didn't even dream of that.
Those have to be the 2 single highest selling years for a single manga, right?
It didn't. That boost came from One Piece Film Strong World. It was the first really good one of the films and brought with it a huge new One Piece hype in Japan.
