Frankly, and this is from experience, not everyone has that luxury of friends. At least not ones you can interact with in the physical realm.
That makes it really hard, because it's vital to enjoy your existence with other people. It took a while to find my friends. I have a tough time interacting with normal people. There's nothing I find interesting with them. And often times, people don't find me very interesting either (either that or they think I'm creepy). I think what eventually helped was my attempt to cheer myself up by cheering someone else up. Helping the elderly and the impoverished, despite not getting anything back, and not expecting anything back, gave some meaning to life. Hearing those "thank you" and "bless you" gave me some happiness and self worth.

so my grandfather died the other day.
My grandparents are all dead.
What helps me go through grief is remembering and reliving all the memorable experiences with them, whether good, bad, awkward, or awesome. And remember, they still exist in our hearts.
I live in California so I got CAInsured (Obamacare's California branch), and that allows me to get insurance even without income, which in turn allows me to get medical and psychiatric help. However, I also do not take medication for depression, because meds only help to alleviate depression symptoms until "clinical depression" becomes "dysthymia" aka "pervasive depressive disorder". At that point, it's better to focus on cognitive therapy with a therapist.
It'll sound counter-intuitive, but try to see your friends in person as often as possible when you're depressed. It feels completely different to be around people than through text or even video-chat. Voice your feelings with close friends and join them in group activities. Let them drag you through their schemes. It's a lot better than holing yourself in place and experience a bombardment of anxiety and hopelessness. Don't worry if you upset them, it's a lot better to make your friends upset at you than to shut yourself up and neglect them.
Edit: I'm currently experimenting with white noise in treatment for distracting thoughts. So far, it doesn't work completely, but it doesn't cause me to waste as much time when doing work.
@Print:
Going to rant a bit about someone I live with - I don't like doing this but I wanna get it off my chest and telling her this in the past has only lead to big drama.
My flatmate C has all but given up on life. She doesn't really do anything except eat, sleep, and play EVE Online. She wakes up around 4-5pm and then plays through until really late at night…it's not at all uncommon to see her still playing when I leave the house at 7am. She used to play games and never go out before, but she at least balanced it with social media, and she doesn't do much of that anymore. And on Sunday she had a minor breakdown over getting food in, to the point where she eventually threw money at me (literally) and told me to get us pizzas delivered...which she then didn't eat when they arrived because she went for a smoke and fallen asleep. It especially gets to me because she's on voice chat most of the time, so she'll be there talking away and getting all stressed and barely paying attention to any of us in the flat. And because of my condition, I can't actually tune it out - same way that if there's a TV on around me, I literally cannot not watch it, and it scatters my thoughts.
I got back from work this evening feeling too tired and headachey to go out to a friends' event and figured I'd try relaxing a bit with one of my comfort food meals (pasta, peas, hot sauce, spices) but I'm just feeling irritated by the noise from the voice-chat and my flatmate getting more worked up about something in that game than she does over her actual breakup with her partner, who is still covering for her financially and otherwise. I don't want to snap at her because she'll snap and start calling me an abuser again like she did when I kept her off the PC for 5 minutes once when she wanted to play (because I was arranging my partner's funeral...).
I'm almost feeling like I'm more relaxed at my office desk than at home at times like this. Perhaps it's just as well that I'm going to have to move in half a year.
And thanks for letting me get that off my chest. I'd ask for advice about what to do, but so many of us have tried so much with her, and yet she seems fairly determined to drive herself into this precipice.
I feel like jumping on the bandwagon and offering my condolences, but then a thought occurred to me: She has depression. No one would shut themselves out of the world unless they have deluded themselves that there is no hope in the world and that the online "world" is a better place to "live" in. I've lived that life before. It's absolutely miserable, and makes everyone around you miserable too, so you'll feel that you need to avoid reality even more. I broke out of it once I stopped getting financial support, and realized I'm in real deep shit. I sought therapy and medical treatment, things got somewhat better, and I'm not sucking the life out of everyone as much anymore.
You are going to move out but in the mean time, you're SOL. I was thinking that having music playing in your room will help distract you from your impossible flatmate's gamer rage, but I'm not sure if that will help.

Anyway, I want to actually confess something I'm ashamed of: I'm boring. I like to think I'm insightful and relevant whenever I have something to say, but I know when I get ignored, and I know why. People don't feel that they can get anything from me, and would rather go to someone more charismatic for advice or answers, even though that person may not be very smart. And they just feel that person's ignorance to be adorable, innocent, and cute.
I also want to confess that I have no ability to modify images on my computer. I don't know how to use image editing software, and have no patience to learn it. Yet this bugs me and makes me envious somehow. Maybe it's because I'm blaming myself for all my faults all the time, but don't actually do anything about it. I'm impulsive, entitled, lazy, greedy, and callous. I'll admit that most people are, but that's what I don't like about most people.
Heh, it's funny I've come onto the internet to say this stuff and try to garner sympathy. I don't need it. What I need to do is focus, cut out all my childishness, and get work done. Even when I'm drained, and have no energy, I need to focus my mind and spirit. Yet, I'm not really sure if I'm doing things right. I need to see my friends more often. Well, that's some honest thinking but I'll go do stuff now.
I love TED. It's educational, inspirational, heartwarming, mind-blowing, etc. Except when speakers don't really understand their subject but think they do. Those suck.
Here's a fun one:
I know it's kind of late to be discussing this, but could Doflamingo's power actually save him?
There was a theory that Law saved him, or Doffy used Law to save himself, but I think there's a much simpler explanation: Doflamingo's power can do something like the Bara Bara fruit. He can simply reattach his head with his own string powers. He'll still be alive right after his head comes off (death by decapitation is not instant. You are just completely helpless when your head comes off), but DD isn't helpless because he can control strings with his mind. As BS as that sounds, and unfair as it implies, I don't think Oda cares about common sense or fairness when it comes to DF powers. What matters is that DD is beatable. And he can be defeated, just not with common reasoning.
However, I will admit my previous explanation is boring, unoriginal, unimaginative. I would like to think that the body we see is a perfect fake replica, and DD controls it perfectly, even putting Haki into it to seem even more real. I can totally imagine that Doflamingo is hiding somewhere, completely avoiding detection by clever use of his powers, but controlling the stage masterfully. The only way to detect him is by having great Observation Haki. I'll also admit that he won't use his fake body all the time, especially if there is no where to hide.
And while I like my second theory, he's being served food and watching the gladiators. He would need his actual body to eat, so having a double eating your food is dumb.
So that's my 2 theories, imperfect but fun to think about. Maybe Law does want DD alive for right now, but I wouldn't make a bet on it.
Remember when Robin was badass.
She needs a good challenge to overcome. I have not seen her do anything difficult. Nami, as well, for that matter. And Chopper. And Franky. And Zoro. And Brook. (Hopefully, someone can prove me wrong. The Strawhats are still totally OP since they got back together.

Mmm…. Nope. Wasn't any Kairoseki cuffs but just a wooden cuff.
I remembered that back in Alabasta, Kairouseki was characterized as being harder than diamond. I'm guessing it hardens after being molded while liquid.
Or he hasn't been transform because Doflamingo wants Dressrosa to remember what Riku did to them and at the same time make Riku feel angry about himself for his incompetence
I think Riku will retain his memories the same way Rebecca's father retained his. What he feels currently doesn't matter to Doflamingo, because the way I see it, Doflamingo is a sociopath, and people like him don't really give a damn what other people feel.
@LaFF:
Violet actually turned herself in and give her services to Doflamingo with the promise from Doflamingo so that Riku would not be killed. Doflamingo was about to kill Riku.
Yes, that's exactly right. My first sentence wasn't worded well, so I didn't state it clearly, but you did just that. Thanks.
Nice theory, but I'm pretty sure there is no such thing as passing on power in this way in One Piece.. Luffy is always going to increase his strength by his own will and ambition, not by magical inheritance-power ups.
While it's completely Luffy's strength, agility, willpower, and luck that allows him to plow through his adventure, having that D in his name will inevitably make people superstitious. However, characters like Whitebeard and Roger had learned of its true significance, so that D isn't anything to scoff at. Nonetheless, the D doesn't give strength, it's just that people with a D in their name are incredibly strong.
Why the heck would Bon Clay transform into Sabo just to meet him and make him happy? He could sneak in under the disguise of a guard, ambush the actual guards, and meet Luffy face to face as himself.
I think I've figured out why Don Chin Jao and King Riku weren't turned into toys: Sugar loses control over her powers when she's scared, and Viola sacrificed her freedom to Doflamingo, so he let Riku live.
Turning into a doll doesn't kill the person apparently, yet Riku wasn't transmutated, so that means there's another explanation. I think the soundest and most logical reason is that Doflamingo understands that actually hurting Viola's father would make her even more rebellious. While Baby 5 was rebellious, she tried to take vengeance directly and stupidly on Doflamingo, and that was useless. However, Viola is cunning, resourceful, and charming, so she can disrupt the order of Doflamingo's forces subtly, and weaken his power over Dressrosa. I think that's the best possible reason, Riku hasn't been hurt or transformed.
As for Don Chin Jao, he has Conqueror's Haki. 'Nuff said.
Osashiburi APF!
Here you go! This guy is a bit excited
I sympathize with this guy. I had to take anti-anxiety pills and return to this forum just to vent.
But now I'm here, I don't even know what to say. Next, Dragon shows up with Luffy's mom and his aunt Crocodile.
BTW, who said Koala was Robin's sister? Just because they scrubbed floors as children doesn't mean they're blood-related. Koala refers to Robin as "Sis" like how buddies who are guys refer to each other as "Bro".
I don't connect with Sinbad, but I like that character. Simply because he's perfect.
Still voting Morgiana.
Even if its a badass animal? Calling someone a Tiger (or Bull or Rhino) sounds more like a compliment than an insult, particularly when your job involves beating the crap out of people.
Some people don't like being called a Tiger, or Bull, or Rhino. They are known for being ferocious.
By "in general", that's really vague. I apologize. It depends on the person, really. Anyway, calling an admiral Green Ox is actually an honor. Green Cow or Green Bull, it's a code name reserved for an extremely high ranking officer.
Luffy will take the Mera Mera fruit, feed it to a chicken, then Zoro will cut it's head off, hand it over to Sanji, who will make a fiery chicken dinner.
Does it have the same connotation in Japanese? Calling a person a "dog" in English is a long-time derogatory term (and "monkey" to a lesser extent) too.
It does. Calling people animals in general is derogatory.
@Monkey:
Correct, it doesn't imply that Oda will model all the admirals after Japanese actors.
It deeply implies that Oda will model all the admirals after Japanese actors.
You're mean. I won't play with you.
I think Jinbe will join the crew when Luffy matures. Right now, I think he's too busy to babysit him.
No. Oda seems to have made it clear he plans to stick to the pattern of admirals being modeled after famous Japanese actors, at least in current timelines seeing as Sengoku didn't look like anyone while he was an admiral. He held that up after the time skip, so I could see it holding up for the likely time skip we get at the end of the series that will serve to wrap up some world building. Coby's appearance has been proven to be more plastic that other characters, so of any character of whom we have already seen the face, I think he has the best odds of his face somehow managing to end up looking like a Japanese actor.
Do I think it will happen, not particularly. I could, however, imagine Oda pulling the joke of Coby's drastic change in appearance a second time.
I don't remember Oda stating that all admirals will be modeled after Japanese actors.
He has modeled every one of them so far after Japanese actors, but that's simply his quirk. That in no way implies that it's "clear" that he plans to model all admirals after Japanese actors.
In addition, your last paragraph contradicts your first.
P.S. I'm nit-picky for the jollies. Keep it jolly, okay?
@CCC:
No, but the chinese character for cow is… pretty much. Its meaning can be generalized to cow, bull, ox, etc.
Even if the Admiral did turn out to be a woman, Green Cow just sounds lame...
Ox is gender-less, so I think that's a better translation.
Good One Monkey King! Your hammy statements are always good comedy!
However, I'm sure Great Liver intended to opine that Coby would become an admiral after he matures into a complete badass.
I eat Group I the most, Group II the second, Group III the third, Group IV the fourth, and Group V the least. This isn't a conscious decision.
I tend to eat whatever I want, and it just so happens that even though I go for Group III and V in meals first, those foods can be quite rich, so I instinctively balance them with lighter foods from Groups I and II. In addition, Group III foods come with Group I and II components, and often Group IV. Out of habit, I focus on Groups IV and V for breakfast and snacks. I can't stand too many oily sweets, so Group V ends up becoming minimal in my consumption.
@Nex:
Oda was less involved in Z than he was in Strong World
It's no surprise then that I liked Strong World better then
I could tell that having Oda involved assures high quality in story, animation, and voice acting. This time, he's even an executive producer, which means he's one of the big bosses, and not just a consultant. This was an awesome movie, and I enjoyed it. That final scene with Zephyr confronting all his students was the best scene IMO.
I think people fail to realize that Haki use is exhausting. Why waste energy on a single cannon fodder opponent? Yes, Mihawk viewed Buggy as cannon fodder. And Doflamingo didn't actually want to kill Crocodile, and probably also saw him as no threat.
Genos makes the perfect housewife.
Considering that he adores Saitama, never complains about anything, and does every house chore perfectly, he would be a very good housewife. However, a perfect housewife would also be perfect in bed, and Genos falls flat on his face for that. Unless he undergoes an android sex change with functional female sexual paraphernalia, assuming Saitama is heterosexual.
Nah, you are seeing not far enough.
Tekkai and Busou Armor are different things. you remember how Lucci and Kaku blocked Zoro slashes? Tekkai is "harder" than Busou. But that doesn't matter right now. You can combine these two techniques. Busou Armor is a invisible Armor AROUND the Body and Tekkai is a HARDER BODY. So you have two shields/armors. Which is usefull, don't you think?Same with Kamie(thanks btw, i couldn't remember the name^^). You can still use it. even if one can predict the next movement of the enemy, it doesn't guarantee you, that you can avoid the attack. There can be Kamie step in. Look how the Body avoids the attacks, that is very helpfull if every other attempt of avoiding fails.
Shigan would still be a usefull art. Apart from the fact, that one can improve and evolve this art, you can combine it with Busou, which means that you can spike even a Rubber Body or Logias etc.
EXACTLY^^
I can see what you mean. I just reject it as a solid explanation because it's not backed up by evidence. The evidence is that Haki masters don't even distinguish between Tekkai and CoA Haki. In fact, CoA Haki seems to be what Tekkai seems to be imperfectly imitating. And Kamie imitates CoO users who can dodge attacks. Not all CoO users can dodge, but that has to do with a lack of combat training/experience.
Honestly, I think the real reason Oda created Rokushiki is because he had not finalized his ideation of CoA and CoO Haki at the time when he wrote the Water 7/ Enies Lobby arc. The only Haki concept he developed early was CoC. Now he has Haki users harden their bodies like Tekkai and Shigan (but even harder), move like they use Soru, and dodge attacks like Kamie. They still have to have some kind of training to use Geppou, and Rankyaku is never used by high powered swordsmen because their swords cut better even at a distance.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
So how do we hurt Logias? We hit them! When cut a normal person dies not from the cut, but from blood loss, organ failure, etc. So if you cut someone that won't bleed it's just useless effort. But if you hit them they still get the full damage.
Define "full damage". If a person bleeds, whether externally or internally, that means there has been a blood vessel rupture. So a Logia user hit by Haki receives damage as if his body was normal. A Logia user hit by normal attacks aren't harmed because Logias have that dispersion power.
I'm more excited about each Magi and Toriko chapter than I am for One Piece nowadays. However, One Piece always has a place in my heart.
Naruto and Bleach has driven me away with unnecessarily convoluted story arcs. Is there any complicated story arcs in One Piece? My impression is that it's very linear, with few plot points that stretch over the series.
Personally,when I try to recount the best anime melee fights I've seen…they tend to be the ones without "over-exaggerated speed lines and special effects".Infact,the over-exaggerated speed lines are mostly used to help limited animation look more dynamic.In a scene with actual movement and budget,they have little use beyond some stylistic stuff....something the scene wasn't really going for.
@Devil:
This. If that fight lacks anything, I assure you it isn't awesomeness. By the way, the way it was handled was great, you could actually feel how much the hits hurt, I prefer it way over only two characters spamming flashy moves
It's simply a matter of preference and taste. As an avid One Piece fan, I know what was going on in that fight, and it was intense because I knew what Haki is and the sheer devastation it causes on the opponent. However, a newcomer to One Piece watching that scene would be baffled by our exuberance. To them, they don't understand what's up with the arms turning black and why that somehow hurts the opponent more, when apparently there's no extra damage shown. They also would be completely bewildered by the story, which certainly doesn't help their impressions of One Piece.
Well. I think every mangaka (and also every other professions) are in it for the money. The only difference between the great ones and the mediocre ones is that they are also in it for the passion.
Which I think is lost on these 2 authors. I don't necessarily blame them because when u keep doing the same thing for years n years, ure bound to lose that passion eventually.
And I bet that it had happened to Oda too, but he at least had the moral responsibility not to disappoint his readers, and the respect for his own story. So even when he hit that low point, he didn't come up with crap.
I think Oda has reached that low point multiple times while writing One Piece, but he genuinely has great imagination for fantasy, so when he wings it, it's still cool.
For example, during the Moriah arc, zombie generals were designed and introduced, and readers were thrilled to see them in action, but then Oda thought up Orz, and lost interest in all of the zombie generals. I wouldn't call that responsible writing, but it wasn't bad enough that he drove away fans.
Kishimoto was unable to invent anything innovative, and Kubo actually drove away fans. I think that sums up why Oda successfully continues One Piece.
That's the thing. Conscious decision making can be a disadvantage against a quicker opponent with CoO. Kami-e is like an improved version of Gomu Gomu no Boh.
!
Unlike conventional decision making, CoO decision making is supposed to be instantaneous, and creates no idleness. In fact, Luffy's instincts develops naturally into CoO when he trains his attention and mindfulness. Kamie is not an improved version of Luffy's instincts. I think your reasoning relies on the assumption that Kamie is mindless, and completely a knee-jerk reaction similar to Luffy's Boh instinctual behavior.
Ironically, I'll address a contradiction in my previous statement. I said that Rokushiki can be mastered mindlessly. However, what I meant by "mindless" is not the lack of mindfulness or awareness. Kamie, Luffy's instincts, and CoO require superhuman mindfulness. I meant the user of Rokushiki does not need to mind or care about the harshness of the training, and pain in the body. Haki users, however, will seek to conquer the suffering that limits themselves.
What is it with people being unable to appreciate the heartfelt scene of two men engaged in a bout of good ol' fashioned fisticuffs,putting their entire conviction and heart behind their blows,pummeling each other at the limits of their endurance?
How would long ranged attacks and fancy supermoves carry the same emotional impact as that final mano a mano?They wouldn't.
The problem was not the emotional element. The problem was the lack of awesomeness that needs to be expressed with over-exaggerated speed lines and special effects. The plain approach to the concluding fight produced a lot of dissonance, which can leave the viewer feeling awkward.
Tekkai and Shigan would also be useful. How is the "avoid art" called? Would also be useful. They are pretty useful arts. And there is still Rokugan and maybe other stuff. And one can still evelop these Techniques. Seriously, look at the possebilities. I guss, even if Lucci had a pretty weak Busou Haki back then, he would have destroyed Luffy within a minute. Lucci could take more damage and his attacks would actually hurt Luffy. I guess, it's a huge different if one is capable of using (only using, not mastered) Busou Haki and Rokushiki.
I consider Rokushiki (mastered) as pretty usefull arts. Combined with Busou and Kenbun, there shouldn't be much people who can stand up against such people.
Even Though, we are in the New World, i still don't consider the CP9 as weak now. Atleast not Jabura, Kaku and Lucci. Like i said, if they can use Haki, then they can also walk around in the New World. Which means, they get some experience which made them even better fighters.BTW, i hope we will see someday Life Feedback again.
I disagree with your judgment about Tekkai, Shigan, and Kamie.
Tekkai and Shigan are very similar from what I've observed, and they both are weaker than Busoushoku (CoA) Haki. They can be developed, but I think the very ambition to develop them further unleashes CoA, and they just become CoA techniques. Kamie involves responding to an opponent's actions with very fluid and flexible evasive movements. Kenbunshoku (CoO) Haki pushes that further, with actual prediction and conscious decision-making on the opponent's moves. The fluid and flexible movements seem to be a result of Life Return, which manipulates the body. The Boa Sisters could also use Life Feedback, as well as manipulate flame. I'm not sure if that is directly related to Haki. It's another mystery that I can't conclude solidly.
I think the largest difference between regular Rokushiki, and Haki, is that Rokushiki can be mastered with mindless discipline and practice, but Haki mastery involves ambitions, desires, dreams, and hopes.
The short Mario one shot right after Naruto was soooo much better.
It's just two gangstas sitting and chilling, watching Naruto anime, talking about the differences of criminal culture between Japan and US.
Then classic going gansta on the motherfucker that took the family's dineros.Kishi, wrap this ninja shit up, clearly you're meant for gangstas.
I think Kishi has clearly been writing Naruto for the money, and Shueisha has been bribing him to continue the series with steady pay raises.
One thing I'm wondering is the relationship between haki and the six arts. Being high in the world gov/ navy it's unlikely the CP9 are unaware of it. Vergo seemed to be an example of a high level specialty in CoA, could 6 arts iron body be a variation on this or something else entirely? CP9 didn't seem to be able to directly affect weapons like the Kuja or Vergo but some of their effects were close.
Here's how I look at it: Rokushiki (6 arts) is what government fighters learn to strengthen their natural fighting capabilities when their Haki is weak. When their Haki is strong, only Geppou, Soru, and Rankyaku retain usefulness.
Also, there is weird stuff like fire, lightning, ice, wind, water, and shadow elemental moves that don't have a direct link with Haki. I don't think Oda will ever explain them, because they are mysteries.
Discord's alignment went from chaotic neutral to chaotic good. In D&D 3rd edition, characters do lose a level when they change alignment, but it doesn't really matter in later additions. Not that it matters for Discord who can be considered a deity of chaos.
However, the problem was not that he changed. The problem is how he went about changing. Simply realizing he needs friends? Really? That's the same lame shit that happened in older MLP generations. It completely ignores the reality that some characters, and people in reality, throw away feelings like love and friendship just for power, wealth, and fame. Even if it is just a kid's show, this lesson isn't one that will carry with a child into adulthood.
I guess I genuinely want to see a psychopath who can't understand love, friendship, sorrow, or compassion. I think kids need to learn about them.
@Foxy:
But Bounties aren't based on strength, they're based on threat level to the World Government, and all Franky did was fight two underlings of Doflamingo, who weren't that strong to begin with.
Luffy's bounty comes from strength but the fact that he defeated Shichibukai's, and invaded top Government Facilities, which obviously involved his strength but the fact that he was so reckless and dangerous was what gave him his bounty.
Franky has a 300 million berry bounty threat level to the WG.
Luffy's threat level is actually infinite, as he's the very antithesis of what the WG aims to protect.
At first I thought he was referring to Dolfamingo. I was trying to fit Dofla into the equation of his post. I was getting confused. Shame on me
Infinite facepalms is not enough to satisfy the required facepalm value for this statement.
Really, do I have to drink a 12-pack to generate the adequate cognitive ability to empathize with this forum?
@Foxy:
You're really overestimating Franky, 300,000,000?! Not even Zoro deserves that yet.
Bullshit. Franky totally deserves that.
@Foxy:
You're right, this would be interesting if anyone understood it. Unfortunately I don't think anyone (myself included) knows what your talking about.
LOL, there was a time when the nerdiest of nerds all knew what D&D was about. And from D&D, sprung forth a variety of D20 gaming systems, many of them formerly homebrews that became widespread.
You are not nerdy enough.
Franky's bounty should be over 200 million IMO. That mech is so boss. No, that mech's bounty should be over 200 million. Franky's should be like 300 million.
Anyway, I love the new additions to Nami and Usopp's arsenal. Especially Usopp's. Nami's got good controller abilities with GUIDED LIGHTNING, but Usopp… He can pretty much shoot everything he wants now, provided that everything he wants can be harmlessly broken up into chunks.
As for the silhouette cliffhanger, MEH.
CoA = +Con_mod +Cha_mod Armor AC bonus, damage, CMB, and CMD
CoO = +Wis_mod +Cha_mod Dodge AC bonus and Attack bonus
CoC = +Cha_mod +Intimidate Non-lethal damage (yes, it's the full Intimidate check and Cha modifier on top)
I implemented this into a One-Piece Pathfinder homebrew :3
Haki bonuses should not stack onto armor bonuses of the same type, and cannot exceed the total dodge AC limit for each armor type.
Level 11 character level requirement. Each Haki type is a feat.
For people who do not play tabletop RPG's, ignore this post. It will not make sense.
I think the silhouette is Zoro's Dad. I mean, come on, he's got that stupidity about him.
Honestly, I don't know how anyone can see who that is. It's just an excellent cliffhanger to an otherwise awesome chapter.
I've got this weird theory that Monet is Hattori's daughter from the future. She was sent back in time to undo the mistakes of the World Government, which is at fault for destroying all of civilization in the near future, but fell in love with Doflamingo and decided to not follow her orders, and thus the time loop remains closed.
She eventually leaves Doflamingo because she realizes that he doesn't give a shit about his subordinates, no matter how close she gets with him. However, Doflamingo, belying his appearance and manners, was no easy-going man. He hunted her down and cornered her on a remote sacred island of the birds. But, chasing her to this island proved to be a catastrophic mistake for Doflamingo, as it's beneficent dictator Hattori felt compassion and affection for the young bird-maiden, and shielded her from harm with a gust of wind that blew away him and his strings. Unfortunately for Doflamingo, those razor-sharp strings rebounded towards his neck and limbs from the forces of the winds and effectively dismembered him as he plummeted into the seas.
Ingesting the fruits of the islands flora, Monet eventually transforms fully into a pigeon. In a heat of passionate courtship, Hattori took Monet to be his betrothed.
Monet bore a single egg, which is odd for a pigeon, but it reflected her human origins. That egg hatched a little girl, and was named Monet after her mother.
Monet was a rambunctious young sprite. She would often board random boats, innocent of the nature of pirates, marines, or merchants, but her agility allowed her to escape capture.
Her mischief developed the skills to become an infamous thief. And despite her skills and her heritage, she was caught by the Marines and imprisoned.
That act infuriated the mighty Bird Lord. Declaring war on the World Government, Hattori and his armies decimated the human world. As the world crumbled from Hattori's fury, Vegapunk created a time machine and chose young Monet to be it's first voyager. She was sent back in time to prevent her own capture, but the prototype malfunctioned, instead sent her back to a time before she was born.
She became bored of waiting, since the time machine was a one-way gate, and decided to explore the world. She met a charismatic pirate lord named Doflamingo and was enlisted as his subordinate.
The rest, is history.
I wonder if that thank you letter Oda wrote to Avril Lavigne will open up a possibility for One Piece to become super popular in the US. Maybe even a possibility for One Piece live action in Hollywood. I mean, is there a possibility of an official music video for One Piece featuring Lavigne…
Sorry if I'm slow to catch up with One Piece news...
@MDL:
By accepting that other people are always going to have different tastes, especially in subjective areas like art/media,
and that there's no point getting upset about it.
Well, there lies a problem. I'm pointlessly getting upset about it. I know it's the internet and all, but I kinda want to… do many horrible and horrific things to a bunch of otherwise innocent people. I need stronger meds.
Sorry for wasting your time. I thought I had a valid argument.
I'm upset that I have friends who really like Naruto. They like One Piece too, but they're astounded by Naruto's "excellent" drama. I keep quiet and try to play along (I'm successful most times), but it really irks me when people have no taste in good manga. Naruto is really average at best.
So how does everyone else deal with it?
I think Kubo has Shimabukuro (author of Toriko) envy. Unfortunately, his talent at food porn is kind of weak.
This chapter of Naruto is pretty good, if you stop meta-thinking.
Naruto stands clueless, unaware of his allies dying, and then he gets attacked, so Hinata tries to protect him with her body, but then Neji steps in to protect Hinata. Hinata protects the person she has a huge crush on, and Neji protects his sister. It's really emotionally touching. Neji did go a bit overboard by approving Hinata's choice of action because he would have done so himself.
Now add the meta-thoughts:
Naruto stands clueless (because he's a fucking moron), unaware of his allies dying (none of his friends ever died, except old people, because that's what old people eventually do anyway), and then he gets attacked (no shit), so Hinata tries to protect him with her body (she could have pushed him to the ground to dodge the whole attack), but then Neji steps in to protect Hinata (in the same fashion because this manga runs on martyrdom justified by idealistic nonsense). Hinata protects the person she has a huge crush on (but did not have enough screen time and character development to pursue her interests), and Neji protects his sister (not really, he's got a huge man-crush on Naruto). It's really emotionally touching (saccharine. In addition he's probably not going to stay dead because Kishi will do this kind of thing). Neji did go a bit overboard (understatement) by approving Hinata's choice of action (really because he wanted Naruto to himself) because he would have done so himself (which he did, and he got Naruto's attention, and he sugar-coated it with the only significant character development he's got in the whole series. Thinking about it, if Neji was a human being, he would have met many other people in his busy life and underwent many difficult challenges. That argument applies to every character in this series. They would have thought more rationally and tactically, and this whole war against two characters plot devices would have been dealt with by strategic political action, psychological warfare, and the main characters (well, only one really) wouldn't have known about it because there is no intelligent reason why Naruto should be the "chosen one"). (Ah, and where the fuck is Sasu-chimaru?)
