Having both auto-battle and fast-forward shows they don’t have a lot of faith in this combat.
That's pretty much a standard feature in modern rpgs.

Well, I'm sold. The battles are just so fun to play, hopefully they keep entertaining in the long run. Definitely getting it anyway.

Even that filler with zoro introduced alone right after marco says star and slices queen laser in half shows they have their own agenda to make zoro stand out compared to sanji. In the manga zoro is introduced doing the combo attack with sanji. And it only looks like zoro saved sanji, can't tell sanji saved him too, he just attacked queen.
They even made zoro boobs dance this episode.
It was just as bad as when they made Zoro pretty much send Big Mom flying instead of Law, coming up with another Zoro wank moment that wasn't supposed to be there. It's unfortunately a recurring trend of the anime now.

@zorosempai anime did not change the line, crunchyroll translator did
Yeah, I noticed that, although Toei added a Zoro moment that wasn't there.
Still, it's kind of annoying that even anime translators have agendas.
Sanji's fighting scenes and Nekomamushi's entrance were fire. Great episode to end this year's One Piece.

Here's a thread with links to a bunch off previews journalists got to play.
General impressions are very positive, which is nice and even surprising for an anime game. That comment about Alabasta feeling "alive and immersive" should put most people's worries at rest after World Seeker's fiasco.
Ever since the game was announced I thought this new Adio Suerte character would be the final villain. Which could still easily be the case.
But it's cool how they're leaving most of the plot a surprise, including the other "memory" areas.
I don't think this world is looking less lively than the average JRPG, it's just that World Seeker left such a bad taste that it's bringing sorry memories. I was playing its DLCs recently and it's pathetic how prison island actually feels like ghost island.
I keep getting strong Dragon Quest XI vibes and that's great, but since it's an anime game expectations obviously must remain in check. One Piece still lacks an actually GREAT game, although we certainly had a couple efforts that were fun.
Although the combat scenes were nice, this one reminded me a lot of those more padded out DBZ episodes: an annoying, pretty much useless side story in the first half (Zeus scenes are usually a painful watch) just so we could get a good adaptation of a fight in its final few minutes.
Marketing and the overall treatment for this game has been pretty much the standard Bandai Namco stuff, which is a very particular approach compared to the Western scene. Even their bigger, anime-unrelated releases, like Tales Of or Scarlet Nexus, get similar treatment. If anything, they seem to be putting more faith into this game than World Seeker, and the development time was also longer than the average Musou game, so as someone who's always been into turn based rpgs, I'm expecting to have a good time at leasr.
I think it was confirmed that the DLC will have an additional story.
No, because episodes like this take a lot of time and careful planning, and the staff behind it can't be everywhere at once.
I'm going to say, generally, that if you pay attention to the overall quality of seasonal shows across the whole industry, outside of the once-in-every-so-many-years "big thing" tentpoles the vast majority of them would be lucky to receive even one episode as high-quality as this one throughout their entire run, let alone all the other big episodes One Piece has had lately. The pacing issues remain depending on the episode, but taken as a whole the Wano arc's adaptation has been putting the majority of its peers to shame.
Yeah, definitely. Exceptions like Ranking of Kings or Demon Slayer are far from being a good representation of how short, seasonal animes look these days. Wano's quality is almost unbelievable.
The problem with episodes like this that are animated so beautifully is that Toei can't handle the quality and cost, so they'll revert to the usual animation within the next few episodes. It would be amazing if all of "Roof Piece" could be animated this well and consistently… but it won't be. Also if I had a dime for every Oden flashback, callback or reference that we've had during the Onigashima invasion arc, I'd have at least $50 by now. :getlost:
This has absolutely nothing to do with cost. It's all about good scheduling and management so important episodes can look amazing like this, which Wano has been doing quite impressively for a weekly, long running anime. We got lots of awesome moments already.
Oh yeah, I remember something about Oda giving up on the first script and redoing the whole thing from scratch, as he wanted to make the movie more entertaining and less emotional, or something like that.
I can see them reusing some ideas here and there maybe, but not adapting the whole thing, of course, as Oda didn't seem much happy with his first script to begin.
@All:
Are those games good?
While the Pokemon remakes were their first attempt as head developer, ILCA isn't exactly a newcomer in this business, having provided assistance on games like Dragon Quest XI, Code Vein and Nier: Automata (apparently they're really close to Yoko Taro). So they have some sort of experience with huge, long turn-based rpgs at least, which hopefully is the case here.
Besides which, we can see in the process video that Oda changes his mind from yellow to blue partway through, which has me thinking the colour is more meant to represent the addition of electricity than a specific heat range.
Considering Ifrit is directly related to flames and usually seen as the king/god of fire - and Sanji himself says his leg can sustain "hotter" flames now, I really, really doubt Oda's intended to depict electricity with the blue color here.
Blue is Sanji's color, so I don't think his flames are changing color further.
It's weird that only now Sanji gets something that resembles his signature color. He's the Straw Hat least often seen wearing his color (even his post-TS design lacked any blue).
Next is Robin's violet/purple (which actually are different colors, but she's often seen wearing something of either color). Maybe her demon form is purple?
Agreed. Besides, the color blue signs the hottest a flame can get, IIRC. This is likely peak Sanji, his blue flames could even potentially beat Akainu's magma if taken literally.
Is there really a chance they actually lost episodes? It didn't sound that serious at first, but now we.know Precure is on hiatus until April at least…
Anyone who thinks we'll ever see Luffy beating a pretty girl to a pulp is delusional, lol.
As a celebratory milestone, this was waaaay more satisfying than chapter 1000, and that's enough for me.
There's of course the letters, but the pictures are always highlighting the color red. Wonder if that means anything?
Lol, so I wasn't crazy about the clues!
Excited if this means a movie that is different from usual filler fare.
There's of course the letters, but the pictures are always highlighting the color red. Wonder if that means anything?
If anything, Stampede made me realize how bored I am with typical filler shonen movies, no matter how flashy it looked. And it really feels like audiences want something more substantial these days, when it comes to anime movies.
It's not my rule. It's the standard that's been set since east blue. Arguments can be made about Robin and Franky being strong, but by the time they officially joined, Luffy, Zoro, and Zoro were still considered the three strongest and always faced the three strongest opponents. The question is does that standard get broken after 20+ years.
It's not fan made. We don't decide who the SHs face during an arc. Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji usually face the three strongest. Arlong Park, Arabasta, Enies Lobby, and FI. Then the split ups started happening and now that they're all back together, Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji are again taking on the three strongest.
Yeah, I mean, can't call it "fan made" when the story has been throwing at our faces that they're the Wings of the Pirate King.
Although the reason Oda has been pushing it now could be because of two new powerhouses joining, as prior to that, obviously the rest of the crew didn't come close to them. In any case, I seriously doubt that pattern is going anywhere, Yamato or not.
I'm new to this, but I'm curious about the history. People often mention how much Oda likes to surprise us, but in the end a lot of the broad strokes are pretty obvious. Has there ever been a time where the community as a whole thought something was going to happen only for Oda to go another way? For example, did most people think Vivi would join the crew permanently, or that the Merry would be the ship for the whole story, or that Ace would survive Marineford? My experience watching and reading for the past year is that Oda likes to surprise by dropping new information on top of what he's already built, rather than taking a big expectation and going a different way.
I think the best example of a time when Oda completely subverted expectations was Ace's death. I remember pretty much no one expected the rescue mission to fail, and a lot of people were still waiting for Ivankov to heal him next chapter or another cop out, given Oda''s track record handling death (even though that would be narratively ridiculous).
And yet there were people doubting that Brook would join back then, whether thinking that "it's just one of Luffy's impulses" or whatever else:
[qimg]https://i.ibb.co/PjW1Hff/Screen-Shot-2021-10-17-at-4-08-47-AM.png[/qimg]
To be fair all of those posts are from Brooks' first appearance, when Luffy invited him at the end of chapter 442. So it really could go either way at that point (I mean, not much time later Luffy would ask a tree the same).
But IIRC, people quickly grew attached to him the very next chapter, when there were many fun interactions with the whole crew, something Oda didn't give Yamato yet.
She's hiding in Brook's afro/skull
They sure like to milk the heck out of Yamato
And Law, and Kidd, too…?
Weird how there's no word on a new opening for episode 1000 yet. Great missed opportunity if we're stuck with Dreamin' On.
Buy popular character merch please. Thanks.

Aww look at all those "next nakama", lol.
Seriously though, if people are so absolutely sure that Yamato's joining, I don't understand why grasping at things like these, which doesn't mean anything.
Most people here are very nice, but they clearly never experienced a troll post before.
Also I think that Yamato going back into Onigashima might set him up to meet more Strawhats or Hiyori (who has been heavily hinted to be on the island).
If Hiyori is truly here, then I have a feeling that maybe Yamato will be the one to reunite her and Momonosuke. Remember they didn't meet yet, although he expressed the desire to see her again, so I'm expecting the reunion to happen in an important moment and not as an afterthought after everything is said and done. Maybe knowing Hiyori is there will give Momo the final push he'll need to accomplish his task.
Wonderful episode. I watched the final five minutes three times already.
@Scabbard:
Given that King's race is so significant it's really weird that Zoro will take him down in the next couple of chapters.
Anyway, King's DF ability (+ his fire) resembles a western dragon type, so if you wish Zoro to defeat or even slay a (western) dragon at the Capital like Ryuma, here you go.
Assuming King is just an introduction to a bigger picture as I think he is, it really doesn't matter if he's defeated as early as in the next chapter. It's not King himself that needs to be important.
So the guy being watched by everybody on the live floor fighting a current yonko commander already. Who was seen by all defending and attacking a yonkou commander, is portraying feats of strength similar to Marco…. You know what, thats all important but the most important thing is he’s being watched by everyone on the live floor and this is the guy y’all think is gonna be seen as support?
Also what joke are y’all even talking about. He’s gotten a bounty increase every time the crew gets one except alabasta when (guess what) he wasn’t seen by anyone. If it’s the bounty pic then it’s inconsequential cause it’s not a joke about his bounty but his pic. And then the second bounty? 177 higher increase than everyone except ussop luffy and zoro who did shit in dressrosa. And then another bump in whole cake to surpass zoro. So what joke are y’all even talking about???
Yeah, seems more like wishful thinking than something that was actually happening. Also the CP0 would have to be extremely incompetent to miss all of this lol.
First of all, we literally had an arc, Zou, where Chopper was curing the minks from poison. Now he is curing the samurai in Udon, and curing again in Onigashima. No one is complaining. In fact, these are great developments because Chopper is doing what he does best and actually tangibly affecting the flow of the plot.
i.e: Without chopper, we don't get Mink allies, without chopper, we don't get udon prisoner allies, without chopper, we don't get more beast pirate allies.
No one is complaining? Pretty sure I've seen a lot of people voicing how bad it is that's all Chopper does these days, including here, where there was a thread discussing the matter.
In fact, doing the same thing every arc is the opposite of development to me. That's arguably lazy and gives the impression Oda doesn't know anything else to do with the character. Chopper showing more determination and faith in Luffy when his supposed defeat was announced would be leagues above curing people for the 100th time, IMO.
This is quite a different situation. Nami's dream is a more active one (ie it requires her working on it regularly) whereas Sanji's is passive. What's more, I feel like WCI added more nuance to what Sanji's true aspirations are. Both him and Luffy are in it for the journey more than for the destination (becoming PK/ finding All Blue).
Honestly, it feels like that, at this moment, the StrawHats' individual dreams get a backseat to making Luffy the Pirate King.
It's not even fair singling out Nami or anyone else when none of them brings up their goals anymore. Yes, even Zoro, whose dream is more concrete and requires active effort. One could argue getting stronger gets him closer to it, sure, but he seems painfully obviously more determined to make Luffy king right now. Can't even remember how many times since the TS he mentioned beating Mihawk or becoming the best swordsman, if at all. But I think this is entirely intentional, like with Sanji, as you said.
Heterosexual trans people exist. The word you are looking for is 'cisgender', identifying with the gender you were assigned at birth.
Thanks. I actually knew that, but I was quoting the analogy that he had done when referring to himself, and I'm sure he used cis and heterosexual as independent aspects too.
But see, I doubt Oda has in mind the nuances and problematics of gender identity, sexuality and whatnot when dealing with Yamato. He's coming from a Japanese perspective (where the fandom apparently isn't delving into this matter nearly as much) and it's the same guy who said multiple times in the past that his primary concern when coming up with content is whether boys will find it cool.
That's why I think it's important to not forget the context where Yamato exists, but also the reason I think the character's resolution, whatever happens, risks being simplistic and leaving many people unsatisfied.
@Daz:
…but what exactly does it matter that Yamato is a fictional character? Theres plenty of fictional characters who identify by another gender than the societal default, would you just refer to any such character by their biological sex because they're all fictional creations?
I was talking about your analogy that, as a cis, heterossexual person, you would never think of impersonate a woman just because you admire her. Yes, that's a valid real-life argument that I don't think necessarily holds true for a fictional character in a kids manga, as I doubt that was a matter that even crossed Oda's mind when he came up with Yamato.
Heck, in real life she could probably be diagnosed with identity disorder, as she's not simply "copying" Oden. I think people are trying to apply a complexity to this situation that just isn't there.
@Daz:
The whole Yamato discourse continues to baffle me. As a potentially unimformed non-LGBT person I will just say that even if Yamato is "just" a man by default because Oden was a man, then that still means that Yamato has an attitude towards gender which…means he will declare himself a man if it suits him, without thinking twice of it. Thats not a universal attitude to have -like as a cis het man I wouldn't go "I admire this woman so much I want to emulate her, and since she is a woman I guess I'm also a woman now". And its not like Yamato is "being Oden" purely as a "performance". Its not a "cosplay" or a Kanjuro style "act" because such things are donned with awareness and intent of its artificial, temporary nature. Yamato isn't emulating Oden as a lark, it is fully his identity, 24/7. Which includes...thinking of himself as a man.
Its not comparable to an actor in a play, because Yamato is emulating Oden purely for his own benefit, not for that of an audience. I guess my stance is, even if Yamato turns out to change his stance of what gender he presents as, just because his stance is fluid I see no reason not accept what his current perspective may be.
That logic would make perfect sense, if we were talking about a real person and not a fictional character from a comic primarily aimed at boys.
I mean, we don't even know if Oda thought that far when he came up with the concept of Yamato. Maybe he just thought an attractive female playing "Oden" because she was deeply influenced by him would be cool, funny or make for an interesting story.
People expecting 1400-1500 chapters should have in mind that means another 10-13 years of manga. We have no idea if Oda has it in him to keep drawing One Piece until he's nearing 60.
My personal feeling is that he'll try to wrap things up until 1250-1300 tops. The man clearly loves his life work but it would be perfectly understandable if he's reaching a point where he just wanna live his life.
I mean, if he ends up "beating" two Yonkous at once he'll probably be seen at least as a new one himself if not something even bigger…
Yeah, I guess I'm just being cautious because we don't know how Kaido will be beaten, if Luffy's getting help or whatever.
As for Zoro and Sanji, I dont think it's a sure bet that beating commanders would put them above 1 billion just yet, but surely Oda could surprise me.
Maybe it's just me, but I think it's a little too soon for another Straw Hat to surpass the billion mark. Unless Luffy is officially seen as a new Yonkou and Zoro and Sanji get commanders' bounties, which I guess could make sense too.
Otherwise I'm expecting Luffy to reach around 2.5b, Zoro and Sanji on the 600-800m range, and Jimbe just behind them.
Reminder that the original Whitebeard Pirates used a swatiska in their flags, which Oda had to change afterwards because of its western connotations.
So One Piece is no stranger to that sorta thing. Oda will absolutely change his own art to avoid problematic stuff.
IIRC, Oda's weekly note about that made it sound like the request came from above and he complied, but didn't sound very happy about it.
One Piece Anime episode 1,000 will be aired next 21th November!!
[qimg]https://images2.imgbox.com/9c/b3/xvANqDJn_o.jpg[/qimg]
Speaking of which, episode 1000 won't be chapter 1000, unless they suddenly adapted two chapters per episode now.
I wonder what they're planning here?
The biggest problem with this discussion of Yamato's gender is the fact that Kaido calls him his son. At first, like many fans, I assumed that Kaido forced Yamato to be his son because no way he would go along with the "Oden thing" and just wanted to have a son because he was embarrassed or something. But now we know that Yamato was (when he was younger) an Oni-princess and everyone viewed him as a woman. So, what happened to change everyones perspective of Yamato? Why is he now a son, and not a daughter like before?
That's the big question that I'm sure Oda will answer. Kaido doesn't strike me as a progressive father that respects his son's wishes and that's it. We just don't know the reason yet - heck, we barely know anything about who Yamato truly is, at all.
If people won’t ever accept things like Vivre Cards, then they’ll have to ask themselves what they can accept, and how to reconcile what they want to see vs. how Oda and in-universe media is presenting context and such before moving on with life. There’s only so much one can expect from a series and a limit to how much they feel the author should appeal to their view of the world, as if out of entitled obligation, even with the understanding that some views are placed on a pedestal of importance depending on how they present it. Definitely quite a bit of baggage there that should be sorted out sooner or later if so much of it will be brought into discussions to the point of constantly getting really heated, and I’ll leave it at that.
There was just recently the matter of the production committee itself showing Yamato among the "strong women of One Piece'. I mean, I wasn't entirely sure about the character myself (and avoided using non neutral pronouns), but the picture is becoming clearer now, I think.
I wonder what's gonna happen, especially among the western fanbase, if Yamato joins and, free from Kaido's shackles, drops the Oden act and becomes just Yamato, the new girl of the team - because, well, most of her appeal so far seems to come from the "role" she's supposedly playing, as well as the discussions regarding the character. Of course, Oda could give us a fantastic flashback and change everyone's perceptions, but it's easy to imagine that a lot of people wouldn't be pleased.
Kaido is 59 years old, 710 cm and born in the grand line.
Yamato is "Woman" and born place is "not clear".
All Flying Six have CoA and CoO.
Fortunately, we've seen all of them making good use of their Haki!
Jokes aside, thanks for the very interesting info. It's still weird though how Oda revealed Queen's but not King's bounty in the series itself, especially considering it's almost the same.
Yeah, this is more like a "how I wanted things to happen" fanfic than a theory, isn't it?
Katsumi Ishizuka is a god. I wonder if it's just a coincidence how if fits the current chapters.
He had the belt, which is part of the suit, on. They didn't have the belts on at the wedding, only after they equipped the suits. Reiju's suit reacted while she was sucking the poison out of Luffy.
The suits can be modified… you don't have to equip the whole suit if you want to use only part of its features... you get the individual abilities but not the general things like floating and bullet-proofing...
They didn't have the abilities as children... they didn't have the suits as children...For me, it's the suits.
Suitless Yonji was destroyed by Sanji offscreen. They didn't seem capable of much without their suits to be honest, at least from what we've seen.
That's another reason why I think Sanji's innate fire powers don't have anything to do with Judge or DNA modification and some people are getting a very wrong idea here.
Sure we could be wrong, but with the recent piece of lore introduced by Marco, hopefully answers won't take long now.
These translations are often really embarrassing, and the worst part is that they carry over to other languages.
At least with the official Brazilian subs, it's rather obviously done over the English translation and not the original Japanese dialogue.
Filler and movie characters are an annoying waste of lore. They could’ve been easily made canon by just changing the protagonist of their story and writing some novel about it. I’m sure everyone here would love to see some adventure from the point of view of the kid pirates instead of the straw hats, or seeing a different version of The Z movie with X drake as a protagonist, or Gold with Capone as a protagonist and so on..
(Maybe someday I could write myself some fanfic about it, but I’m surely no professional writer)
Maybe that could be interesting for hardcore fans like most of us, but I'm not sure general audiences would flock to theaters to see Drake or Capone's filler adventures. I think a non Strawhats-based movie would have to be very plot relevant to succeed.
40 chapters isn't even that close of a gap considering it's One Piece and it has been fairly closer than that.
Great episode. Yamauchi's current style truly shines here, although I see why it can be scary for people unfamiliar with him lol.
