Anyone else think the twin snake head attack look like the snake thingies from Dark Souls? Maybe AFO was the chosen undead all along

RE: My Hero Academia II - A true Hero
Togas introduction had her killing what looked like a kid by draining his blood. Her backstory is that she feels a compulsion to drink peoples blood she likes and she can't really control that urge.
I know hori tried to sell the idea over time that it's societies fault for not accepting her that she's like that. But I never bought it. Maybe if it was done in reverse, where she's empathetic at first but then becomes more of a mass murderer over time. The way it was done, just felt like retroactive "sympathetic villain flashback time

RE: My Hero Academia II - A true Hero
"Fall in line with society or your children may get targeted next"
Truly a touching message
Hori's themes have always fell flat for me from the start of the series because they have no real conviction or message behind them. They are just window dressing to make the series seem deeper and darker than just kids with superpowers. Whereas the series imo was best when it just focused on superheros and supervillains. But I guess a simple series would not have sold nearly as well

RE: My Hero Academia II - A true Hero
That's not the cover page I expected for endgame boss battle.
Maybe Deoxyshiggy will shift to speed form now after that shin shoryuken

RE: My Hero Academia II - A true Hero
This was probably the least inspired chapter of mha. Anime filler padding for time type writing. Also terrible costume/design this chapter, which may seem nitpicky but really took away from the emotion it was meant to convey

RE: Onepunch-Man (redrawn version)
STOP STOP STOP
This has become exhausting
Please just stop it people.
If you like the original comic
Please just keep reading it.
Accept the redrawn version is different.
If you can't then please just stop reading it.
It's fucking pathetic how in every page of this thread. Someone has to whine about how different this is
Just STOP!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry I meant it as a response to TLCs question and the general conversation that started from that. I should've quoted him, sorry.

RE: Onepunch-Man (redrawn version)
The comparison to webcomic comes naturally because despite being different they are similar and tell the underlying same story. The comparisons only came in for this arc not only because there are more changes but because the changed version is (subjectively) worse. I think even without any webcomic, people would call out Super Saiyan Centipede and Evil Ocean Water. Or Metal Bat cameo. Or Orochi v5 now with extra psykos.
-
RE: Onepunch-Man (redrawn version)
Garou in this version has completely been stripped off motivation or danger in favour of God. Garou reached the climax of his character arc without much external interactions to drive him to change or the same lows (psychologically) in this version

RE: My Hero Academia II - A true Hero
It was AFO all along. Even when you thought it wasn't, it was actually AFO. AFO and doctor is always there, watching and waiting for any major disaster to happen. Or if AFO is in a good mood, he decides to fuck with random people too. No one ever did anything bad or has any legitimate reason to actually ever do anything bad, it's just AFO's negative influence on them. AFO probably stole Izuku's quirk too that bastard! And I bet it's AFO's fault that Izukus father is never at home.
No but seriously, from the way his skin is disintegrating, I get the feeling it really was AFO/doctor. Hope not though

RE: Chapter 1,044: Warrior of Liberation
Tbh this could have been handled way worse from last chapter, although there's plenty of room for that still depending on the further clarifications on Nika and his newfound powers.
-
RE: Chapter 1,044: Warrior of Liberation
There's no way Nika was planned before Wano, probably not even before Who's Who. There were many places he could have tried to foreshadow this otherwise - Fishman Island with Fisher Tiger who's symbol is a sun, Hancock, Doflamingo fight/Katakuri fight where awakening of re-hinted as the next powerup for luffy. Even the many flashbacks about Joyboy/laugh tale, or when the gorosei are explicitly talking about luffy. Or even from Blackbeard who has an usual level of knowledge about legends.
Also yes Luffy was shown to be sort of "destined" but there was always a level of seperation from literal destiny, although the destiny beats did get strengthened over time. Luffy was chosen in the sense that no one else had the same way of seeing the world, sense of determination and incredible luck. This is another massive leap and also diminishing the value of his effort.
I'm thinking that the idea was to somehow tie awakening into luffy beating Kaido (would make sense since breadcrumbs for this was dropped since Punk Hazard and impel down) but Oda couldn't find an interesting or satisfying way to tie that to luffy's current fruit and the situation. Luffy with the ability to make things vaguely have the properties of rubber (inflatable, stretchy, bouncy) is more interesting to play with than luffy having the ability to turn things literally into rubber. Also gives him a massive powerup physically for good measure.

RE: Onepunch-Man (redrawn version)
I was re-reading some of the older re-re-re-drawn chapters and it's clear that at this point redraw is a different manga to the webcomic. I wonder why ONE decided to change it so much. I always thought the plan was to just basically follow the same outline as the webcomic and have the redraw catch up and then basically take over as the only one being updated. But then there was a massive divergence midway through the MA arc.

RE: My Hero Academia II - A true Hero
I'm not understanding how generating hands prevents Quirk Singularity
I think hyper regeneration to prevent quirks blowing up the future users
-
RE: My Hero Academia II - A true Hero
I feel like the author keeps trying to create "dynamic" angles and cool looking scenes to the detriment of readable of visually interesting fight choreography. Individual scenes can look great but then you have stuff like Nomu attacking with amorphous black spike or Shiggy attacking with a mess of limbs. The first fight with shiggy in the start of the manga was a thousand times more intense and cool than this endgame shiggy.
-
RE: My Hero Academia II - A true Hero
The idea of there being more people who tried to gain a quirk is good, but the rest is just meh. We need more credible threats for this supposedly final fight that is happening soon. Just Shiggy for Deku, Dabi for the Todoroki's and potentially Toga for Ochaku is not enough. Nobody gives a damn about random Nomu vs underdeveloped students and the traitor plotline was THE opportunity to give the enemies one more character, remove some allies and have some actual tension. Hori squandered that.
Yeah but that was wasted long ago by not actually doing much with the traitor plotline. It was just sporadically called back with no real development at all and then he started rushing into the finale of the series. The time for a deeper traitor plotline had long since passed by imo.
-
RE: My Hero Academia II - A true Hero
Aoyama being the villain over invisi girl was so much better tbh. Aoyama got a lot more attention throughout the series, him going to AFO because he wants a quirk makes a lot more sense than invisi girl going to remove a quirk, it brings back the point that not everyone without a quirk is as lucky as Deku. The execution of the chapter was super rushed and very awkward but the scene with aoyama crying was actually pretty well done imo.
-
RE: My Hero Academia II - A true Hero
I don't think it was possible for to foreshadow S&S. As in I'm fairly certain she was just made up a couple of chapters ago for whatever reason. Possibly to give a reason for why AFO didn't just conquer the world (since he'll be theoretically debilitated now).

RE: My Hero Academia II - A true Hero
Endeavor: Yeah you gotta help me Rei, I've tried nothing and I'm all out of ideas
-
RE: Onepunch-Man (ONE's original webcomic)
So sumo dude is getting the cyborg operation or they were talking about Metal Bat?
They were going to fetch Metal bat so I guess Metal bat
-
RE: Onepunch-Man (redrawn version)
I think this almost an entirely different manga at this point, orochi is basically a rehash of boros by now. In my view this arc was very much meant to revolve around Garou and the monster association cadre, mostly garou.
-
RE: My Hero Academia II - A true Hero
I feel like mha uses relatable real world topics as an easy way to try add depth to villains while still to tell the simplistic story of good guys beat bad guys. Even chisaki the child torturing, egoistical megalomaniac got a sad backstory of unemployment, being an orphan, wanting a place of belonging etc. I think it's completely valid to criticize the author for using complex themes as window dressing.
-
RE: My Hero Academia II - A true Hero
! I honestly couldn't visually read what was going on for several panels this chapter
-
RE: My Hero Academia II - A true Hero
LOV feels like an instance of the author wanting to have his cake and eat it. It's like if Blackbeards crew constantly kept talking about social justice and how they are being kept down by pirate society rather than owning up to the fact that the only thing they actually want is to rule over the seas. I feel like the narrative keeps trying to paint this grey morality of the villains actually just wanting change and justice but every time you see them, all they really want to do is kill people and destroy buildings
-
RE: My Hero Academia II - A true Hero
The LOV goals are more like Blackbeards than anything in the real world.
Their entire plan is
step 1: Beat heros
step 2: Take over society with force and reinstate AFOs mafia
step 3: ???
step 4: ProfitAttempts to make them sympathetic fall as flat for me as the forced scene where Stain took action where others were frozen in fear and that was meant to show Stain was actually a very impressive guy
-
RE: My Hero Academia II - A true Hero
Well sure there might be a lot of minor villains that commit petty crimes at best like Gentle. But those villains are clearly not the focus of the manga and they aren't really given much attention or strongly alluded to. I only really remember gentle and I guess those gang of people I think bakugou and deku beat up recently who were planning on going on a mass robbing spree.
-
RE: My Hero Academia II - A true Hero
You expect every person with super power try to use it for personal gains through senseless violence is the same thing to expect every scientist and engineer with access to industrial class acids would use it to start a corpse destroying business for the mobs.
Of all the criminals that attacked UA, the only one that were not blitzed by Aizawa or defeated by FIRST YEAR students where Shigi, Kurogiri and the Nomu. The rest were small fries. No I'm saying that's the world potrayed by mha is that villains in general aren't usually commiting petty crimes but are instead often more serious dangers to society. All those small fry invaded with the intention of killing kids.
-
RE: My Hero Academia II - A true Hero
Expecting mha world to have more gentles than chisakis imo doesn't make sense. It's basically trying t extrapolate from the real word I feel whereas mha seemed to potray a world chock full of nefarious over the top villains atleast when I first started reading it. Rememeber that shigaraki invaded the school with an entire army of villain goons.

RE: My Hero Academia II - A true Hero
I'm gonna be pissed if teleportation quirks start being used again by LOV. I mean he definitely has the ability to do it now, but I hope he doesn't.
-
RE: My Hero Academia II - A true Hero
Shocking lack of empathy and whataboutism in this thread right now. I don't think anyone can legitimately think the name chosen for the doctor was a wise and respectful action given the context. At best it was an accidental mistake or the author didn't think people would take offense.

RE: Onepunch-Man (redrawn version)
I mention last week chapter on why sweet mask is doing doesnt matter. The ranking goes from C to A. S class is just something the organization invented to put the abnormalities in. Genos getting the job isn't an outlier. It's how you get the job in the first place. You can't climb to S. You are S material because you're a monster or you're not.
It's implied in fubukis introductory chapters that the sole reason Atomic Samurai's disciples aren't able to advance to S class is because of Sweet Mask.
-
RE: Onepunch-Man (redrawn version)
I thought that was exactly the point? Sweet mask prevents anyone from getting to S class by simply climbing the ranks. To get to S rank all that matters should be your strength and not any of the other factors that's used for the rest of the rankings(as per sweet mask). Therefore to actually progress to S rank you need to either beat sweet mask or be strong enough to automatically bypass the rankings. If it weren't for sweet mask atomic samurai's disciples would be in S class by simply climbing the ranks rather than being strong enough
-
RE: The Promised Neverland
You knew it was too easy.
! Was Lewis royalty? Or just a noble?
! Queen's younger brother according to the chapter where all the lords discuss what happened at Goldy Pond
-
RE: My Hero Academia II - A true Hero
@Daz:
Do you mean to say that "All for One vs Some for All" feels more awkward thematically than "All for One vs One for All"
That + the fact that OFA was built up as that each user of the quirk mastered and improved on the quirk through effort before passing it on to the sucessor whereas AFO simply stole the strongest quirks. It parralels how Deku was meant to not have any gifted abilities and instead needed to master and improve on his quirk to surpass All Might and beat Shiggy. Whereas now he just gets extra abilities rather than improving on OFA.
-
RE: My Hero Academia II - A true Hero
Deku having multiple quirks isn't really set up all that well imo because the manga reinforces the fact that OFA has only a single ability transferred. Yes the definition of the quirk allows it but it goes against the symbolism and also what was established as the de facto capability of the quirk.
-
RE: My Hero Academia II - A true Hero
Actually whats the general opinion of fight choreography in mha? Imo a lot of the recent fights have been very confusing or uninteresting to me action wise. I preferred the earlier fights such as deku versus bakugo or the tournament
-
RE: My Hero Academia II - A true Hero
Im firmly convinced Shiggy's actual motivation is to be the most popular villain of all time. He sat down and had a talk with Deku about why Stain is more popular than him and how that annoys him.
-
RE: Onepunch-Man (redrawn version)
Its unlikely the webcomic flow would work as well for this version anyway.
Pheonix man fight was super dragged out thoughEdit:I loved the zombieman fight chapter in this version for example
-
RE: Onepunch-Man (redrawn version)
I like the original comic more because the pacing is a lot faster. But I think this version is sort of caught up anyway so idk if it's worth it. The art is also a massive downgrade, but it has it's charm especially with saitamas gimmick of beating incredibly strong monsters with simple moves.
Edit: Actually I'll echo the suggestion of the poster above suggested of reading the prior arcs to not spoil urself
-
RE: Onepunch-Man (redrawn version)
I expect something like Orochi fully recovers and gets finished off by garou to show garou surpassing orochi.
-
RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 7 - Wano)
That option is way too boring and super unfun though!
I will treat it as a poll about who has the most chances out of people with almost zero chances.
This is my mindset as well
-
RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 7 - Wano)
I know Bonespitter isn't the most popular candidate on the basis of that he hasn't even been introduced yet. But out of all the candidates currently in the arc, if anyone joins I'd say so far it would have to be him. Yeah he's got the Red Scabbards issue, but also he was the outlier of the red scabbards in that he wasn't sent to the future like the rest so his situation could end up being different. His design also has been hidden for quite a while so it's definelty going to be interesting. Also he's probably being set up to have a moment when Big Mom reaches the prison. Also we're pretty deep into the arc i'm not sure there are many other pivotal characters to be introduced.
But mostly he isnt a child and he isn't being sidelined. I'm not going to really advocate him strongly as we haven't seen him yet, but of all the characters currently in the arc he's got a fair chance.
-
RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 7 - Wano)
Dont forget the shadowy spitting specialist, kawamatsu the kappa. 10% chance luffy asks him to join on first sight.
-
RE: My Hero Academia II - A true Hero
! This was not really an intense fight to gain a new ability in imo. It didn't feel like a natural evolution of her fight of her getting pushed into a corner and then mastering her abilities. 90% of the battle screentime went to showing her lifestory, so her getting the power feels like the author just gifting it to her. Kirishima and fatgums fight was built up way better. Also straight up copying quirks is a pretty upper tier ability in terms of straight up power, toga is basically budget all for one rn.
! I think this just ties into the authors poor pacing though. It's why Deku just bumps into the primary antagonist of each arc, threats like the yakuza or gentle or LA have little build up before suddenly being major threats in the universe. I don't think this chapter is particularly exceptional in that regard and I just enjoy MHA for what it is. -
RE: Onepunch-Man (ONE's original webcomic)
I'm so happy this is back. I know it's not a popular opinion, but I still vastly prefer this version to Murata's.
I like the art of Muratas version, but the pacing is better in Ones imo
-
RE: My Hero Academia II - A true Hero
! LOV always seemed incompetently weak to me, glad to see Hulk agrees with me

RE: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part II: Do the Dio Walk!
@Cyan:
King Crimson is possibly the most physically strong Stand in the series. It does in one punch what Star Platinum and The World need a lot to do.
The moment The World stops time however none of that means shit because DIO can Kakyoin Diavolo immediately.
Couldn't King crimson just skip over the entire 5 sec duration of the World?
-
RE: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part II: Do the Dio Walk!
Considering Diavolo can literally see the future and his ability essentially nullifies all of the World's effect I'm gonna give this one to Diavolo. He can just punch a hole through Dio's head for an easy win
-
RE: My Hero Academia II - A true Hero
! The quirk classification, extra focus on Eri and the 'singularity' have me worried if the series is going to try explain quirk science and use it(even more) as a pivotal plot point.
