RE: One Piece Live-Adaptation Drama Announced
A few thoughts:
Ep. 1 - Alvida and Shell Town. Introduce Nami, Zoro joins
Ep. 2 - Buggy. Nami joins. Arlong is set-up.
Ep. 3 - Gaimon and Luffy's Backstory. Use Yasopp to introduce Usopp. (*Perhaps Buggy's story and Coby's story)
Ep. 4 - Syrup. Usopp joins.
Ep. 5 - Baratie Part 1. Sanji introduced.
Ep. 6 - End of Baratie. Nami leaves. Sanji joins.
Ep. 7 - Act 1 and first half of Act 2 of Arlong
Ep. 8 - Second half of Act 2 and Act 3 of Arlong.
Ep. 9 - Epilogue of Arlong. Nami rejoins, arrive in Loguetown.
Ep. 10 - Loguetown and Red LinePutting in arch plot:
Ep. 1-3 Act 1 of East Blue Saga
Ep. 4-6 1st Half of Act 2, with Nami leaving being the Mid-Point
Ep. 7-9 2nd Half of Act 2, with deciding to go to the grand line as the Climax.
Ep. 10 Act 3Works nice. I don't think they'll outright skip Gaimon, since for futureproofing they probably wouldn't do anything that other adaptations (4kids) dug themselves into. Cut it down, sure. But not skipping. Luffy's backstory capping the first act also makes sense, and it's short enough that Gaimon could be used as the framing device for it. Nami should leave by either episode 5 or 6, because you need that "oh shit" moment mid-season, and the earlier arlong (aka the arc that everyone says is where the story picks up) is set up the better.
There's no reason to not have all of East Blue happen in one season. A faithful adaptation =/= a good adaptation. There's no reason why a story like Buggy's can't happen in an episode. The same with Usopp. The information you need from those stories are simple enough (Buggy, Nami, Usopp. That's it), and their themes aren't complex enough to demand anything else than an episode. That leaves much more room to beef up Baratie (which is a perfect mid-season story), and heighten the stakes for Arlong. Everything "taken out" of the previous stories could be put in Baratie/Arlong instead, as far as any thematic aspects or character development.
*As far as cover stories, they could either spend an episode/place them in lighter episodes; or, more interestingly, adapt them as post-credits scenes. That could easily look like:
Ep. 1-4: Colby's story
Ep. 5-9: Buggy's story
Otherwise, they're skipped, or made into shorts. -
RE: Chapter 972: I Am Oden, And I Was Born To Boil
This is giving me Fishman Island and Dressrosa levels of nausea. Oda sure loves a dumb crowd.
-
RE: Chapter 971: Sentenced to Boil
Never a fan of these exposition dumps. This is weird since it's supposed to be a rallying cry…? I'm leaning more and more to wait out this entire thing instead of reading weekly.

RE: One Piece Live-Adaptation Drama Announced
@joekido:
Luffy and his crews needs to stay at the age they are at right now until the time skip.
Why.
No seriously, why do they need to stay the same age?
…because the first half in manga happens in less than a year? And that matters because...?A lot of you seem to misunderstand what an adaptation is. There is no single reason why they'd care about whether or not Luffy is 16 or 18 by the time they get to the war. Once it happens they'll just do a plus two years (or one, or months, or more years, or none at all).
Either way all of these gymnastics about how long the manga takes (literally in real life and in canon) is irrelevant. A good adaptation will take what works best, edit out what doesn't, add in new stuff and keep a proper pace. Ya'll acting like you need to reexperience the entire story the same way you've done for twenty years. At that point, then just read the manga lmao.

RE: Chapter 961: The Mountain God Incident
It's just bad writing, that's the simple answer to it. No smoke and mirrors or ulterior motive or some grand thing about it. He did a chapter where a character does unneeded, sideline exposition and now he's doing some herculean send-up and it just ends up being pathetic in its way of grabbing you by the throat and telling you "isn't he so cool?"
I just hope it gets better instead of continuing to be so heavy handed and talky.

RE: One Piece Live-Adaptation Drama Announced
Late but this is the only topic I've ever and currently will ever consider putting google notifications for
It'll be fun if it's netflix. I prefer the season drop vs the weekly drop. I wonder if netflix is banking on this then. It's projected to be as expensive as game of thrones, then I'd assume netflix would be treating like it's their game of thrones, which is exciting.

Holy shit it's a new thread. It's been so long.

RE: Chapter 912: Amigasa Village
oda hasn't been very good with bloated arcs, so I'm holding my breath on this. we've got five new supernovas, plus law is coming, and possibly bege if we're to see the whole cake gang back. not even considering the other groups…
I just hope this is paced well. Marineford was a terrible slog when it was weekly. -
RE: Chapter 911: A Great Adventure in the Land of the Samurai
i hope at the end of this arc jinbe reveals he needs to do another thing
-
RE: Chapter 911: A Great Adventure in the Land of the Samurai
See I suspected Tama was a little girl, but people saying she's the new Rebecca made me worry. Well, so far she's not insufferable and it's been a great introduction. Loving the designs. I can already tell Oda is having a ton of fun drawing this.

RE: Chapter 910: Onwards to the Wano Country
not even 2 chapters in and everyone's already separated
are we getting 1 year of just 1 strawhat each

Font color compatibility on different board themes.
Although I personally find it annoying and would rather it not be a thing, it is common for certain users to change their font face, size, and color. I can live with it, but there arises a problem when specific font colors dull the paragraph into the background of specific board themes. I myself use the CP9 theme for the convenience of the dark colors on the eyes, and it's very inconvenient having to highlight text when I shouldn't need to. I don't know how it can be achieve, but I really would like a fix.

Chin Piece
…I just stumbled up on this, and apparently it's an official spin-off of One Piece and started June 1st.
It stars a boy named Chimpy whose power is to stretch his…chinchin, his penis.
So yeah uhh. It's a parody, so while it was authorized by Oda, this isn't canon. I think. Well either way it shows his penis stretching sooooooooo....
-
RE: Chapter 906: The Holy Land Mary Geoise
I just want the best princess to appear already. And by that I mean Enel.

RE: The Lev Ely Discussion Thread
@Game:
One of the editors, Naito, confirms in an interview the Reverie will continue on for 10 more chapters. He says it's so short that he wouldn't even consider it as an arc, and that it contains so much information that readers might want to go back and reread all the chapters.
sixteen characters

RE: Chapter 904: The Entrance of The Revolutionary Army Commanders
I think what the chapter is missing is a scene where the citizens (probably focusing moda or whatever her name is) get a follow up realization that they need to prepare for the losses that will come with uprising, and other intricacies. The chapter is rightly focusing on the four commanders, but in doing so Oda omits that "scene".
Which, in this case, is fine. We've had 900 chapters for that. As early as Shells Town we've had scenes of oppressed standing up to oppressor, which just builds more and more complex with each island and arc. In this case, it's acceptable. Lulusia/Illusia is just a backdrop. It would've been nice to get that "scene", but for the purposes of the chapter, it doesn't need to be added.

robin hasn't had a one on one since skypiea, and she fought a pointless side character

RE: One Piece Live-Adaptation Drama Announced
They will definitely diversify the cast. They will definitely unsexify all of the nami clones. They will definitely change skin colours. These are not bad things. One of things adaptations need to consider is the audience, and a modern American audience will definitely like a show that crosses all sorts of races. It is ridiculous to think that a largely non-nationalistic story would warrant an all Japanese cast. There is no need for that. It will be great to have a black usopp as much as non-breasted Robin. It is imperative for the adaption to not be wholly faithful to the character's looks, in fact. As long as it does not affect the story, they should take liberties with who plays the characters.
I mean looks wise they'd definitely have to keep faithful to the character's clothes, and more importantly, their personalities.
Even then some characters will definitely have a tweak to their personalities. Especially Sanji and Brook, who will not be received well if they keep their weird japanese kawaii ero quirks.

RE: Chapter 904: The Entrance of The Revolutionary Army Commanders
remember pyro and damask from d block. or something. h block. q block. @ block.
it doesn't matter. no one remembers.
These new characters except Lindbergh reminds me of them. Kinda w/e designs, and if they didn't have such a big title, they could pass off as part of the bellamy pirates and I wouldn't notice.
That said, I love Morley's eccentricities so far, and Betty's ability is super interesting. Karasu has done little for any sort of big impression, and Lindbergh is a little cliche'd so far. I feel like this should have had the same effect as, say, revealing the supernovas, but it just didn't.
I can't really pinpoint the problem with this chapter's lack of grip on my interest, but I postulate it has to do with, like I said, the designs and the lack of or uninteresting interactions.
I really forward to see what we're gonna get from these characters - despite my nonchalance, I am excited. The reverie is going to be so fun.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
since when is kid sabo's style suddenly a revolutionary thing. did three of them really just copy sabo's style

which revolutionary are we going to get as a nakamate
robin doesn't count

RE: One Piece Live-Adaptation Drama Announced
I remember correctly, one of Oda's conditions is that they hire actors that correspond with the Straw Hat's supposed nationalities.
-
RE: Chopper's forms
Did Robin and Tashigi have a time to acknowledge each other in Punk Hazard? I don't recall. Considering their confrontation on Alabasta I feel like they would have had something to say during Punk Hazard but I don't remember anything like that happening.

RE: One Piece Live-Adaptation Drama Announced
I'm increasingly getting excited for this. I am, justifiably, doubtful of its success. I am also unfamiliar with the studio. That said, I am still excited to see how it will turn out. There's so little information out right now that all sorts of thoughts are running through. It's very easy to mess this up. The style of One Piece is irreproducible in a live action setting without looking goofy. With a possible budget that is even higher than Game of Thrones they can't risk alienating mass audiences who are would easily pass off a goofy looking show over the more popular serious looking shows. Any adaptation from one media to the other will have a need for change to be properly adapted, so I'm not disappointed in that. In fact, I'm excited to see how they'll handle adapting One Piece to live action, keeping the goofyness of its style without become too cartoony. I'm also excited to see how much they'll change. I don't doubt that they'd change a lot regarding the female characters. Not fundimentally, but in the sense where Oda apologetically makes fanservice a point. I doubt all the main women will be big and busty. I'm also excited how they'll adapt and localize jokes. They have a lot more freedom regarding this compared to when 4kids localized the anime.
it's late but I just wanted to put my thoughts together. hopefully we get more info soon
