    • RE: Official Totland Thread

I don't think Big Mom will be defeated in any traditional sense, but it would be weird to travel all this way and not weaken her in some sense. Considering how many forces is being gathered to go against Kaido, I don't think it will be likely that Big Mom will be fought against face to face when the Strawhats is lacking half their crew in Whole Cake Island. I think Sanji will be rescued, and the SHs will narrowly escape with the poneglyph, and they will leave a big enough mess so that Big Mom will not have the ressources to bother with her revenge on Jinbe/Sanji/Luffy.

Anyways Kaido, Blackbeard and Revolutionaries are kind of occupied now, and the Marines have the Reverie, Akainu/Fujitora problems and reworking the shichibukai system to focus on. So the only left is Shanks, which is left for another time. This means that any more forces will be introduced now, and if any chaos is going to happen, it is going to be because of Capone Bege, Vinsmokes or internal conflict in the Big Mom familiy. The SHs and Bege are of course going to be the jokers in the story.

So seeing as Shanks is heavily related in all this, why is it that The Zou or Wano people did not think of contacting him? Is it likely that Shanks will end up in this war since the Kid-Apoo-Hawkins alliance ended up meeting Kaido?

Kaido went to war against Whitebeard for the hell of it (and was stopped by Shanks), could it be that Kaido would want to take advantage of this and also attack Shanks? Would be awesome to finally get to see Shanks in action, but a Zou-Wano-Luffy-Law-Marco-Shanks alliance vs Kaido with Kid-Apoo Hawkins under his command would be too much a mismatch unless more players entered. Kaido has shown to accept people under his wings before (Drake and Doflamingo) so who knows.

Maybe I am just being too optimistic about the involvement of Shanks…

      @Ivar:

Im thinking , Am i the only on who thought this ? Jack might be the Guy whos using Kaidos name to run his own crew ? Like kaidou is all carefree and wants to die , Maybe Jack is pulling all stings from behind. Like maybe he is the brain behind the Kaidou crew . seeing how Kaidou is a loner and all .

That's a really interesting theory, although then it doesn't make sense why X-Drake and friends were so afraid of telling Kaido that Doflamingo had been defeated (if Kaido is so carefree and wasn't planning a giant war/arms race).

    • RE: Chapter 802: Zou

I was hoping that the shichibukais' roles were mostly phased out as "allies" or former enemies of the SHs, and hoping for more of a focus on emperors/marine admirals. Hopefully this new fake son of Whitebeard will not be more than just a 'Duval' encounter where he gets beaten and then becomes an asset (albeit more important than Duval) of the SHs. The fact that he is claimed to be so strong may cause him to be quite important for the story, which I don't really know how I feel about.
If it means that Marco & crew gets reintroduced then I am all for it, but if it means that the encounter with Kaidou gets heavily delayed then I am going to be a bit sad.

    • RE: Chapter 800: Follower Sake Cup

So since the Dressrosa arc is basically over I'll give my thoughts here:

      Pros:

      • Great villain. One of the best I can think of. Crocodile is still my favourite, but Doflamingo is on a close 2nd together with Akainu.
      • Gear 4 revealed. Much better than I could have imagined.
      • Enjoyed the introduction of all the characters a lot
      • Green bit part was great
      • Colloseum part was great
      • Fujitora filled a new role we haven't seen an admiral have before
      • Sabo was introduced (succesfully). Didn't interfere too much in the story, yet still had an important role
      • Interesting and unique subordinates of Doflamingo.
      • I liked how Dressrosa was explored. From "this is a beautiful but mysterious island" to "this is a dark and terrible place"
      • Bringing Law along gave defeating Doflamingo more importance and new cool team fighting (yet Luffy still went 1v1)
      • I enjoyed the part with the gladiators vs the henchmen of Doflamingo as well as the invasion of the 'mountain levels'
      • Robin finally got some impact in the story!

      Cons:

      • Sorry but the whole thing with Rebecca was miserable to read through. Most of her story was just waste of space
      • The royal family were in my opinion too passive during the end of no return.
      • Cipher Pol was a disappointment
      • A bit too many flashbacks. I can't remember them all, but something like Kyros/Rebecca, Law, Doflamingo (all three major) and Chinjao, Sabo (two minor). Too many!
      • Poor top dogs of the family. Pica, Diamante and Trebol were too weak if you ask me.
      • I would have liked to see Robin, Zoro and Franky be tested a bit more (as in they have to reach their limit)
      • Kyros was a disappointment. I expected differently from when we first heard of him in the colloseum.
      • I would have liked to see Sanji have more impact.
      • I didn't like the invasion of the palace in the beginning. Wasn't any exciting as the experienced reader already knew that no big fights would happen yet.
      • A bit too many factions involved at the same time (without any clear objective)
      • I absolutely despised the copy ability of Doflamingo
      • I would have liked to see Viola's ability to be used a bit more than just for reporting information to King Riku.
      • Gear 4 made the final battle against Doflamingo a bit too swingy

How Bellamy's purpose in the story will benefit the overall rating I have yet to decide

So the final rating will be 6/10. Better than Thriller Bark and Fishman Island (if we only include the main arcs), but not much better than that.

    • RE: Next Bounty Predictions (Dressrosa Arc)

Bounties and titles are great for determining the importance of an unknown character. The thing is though that we are so far into the story that the only new high-bounty-characters we will see from now on will be rookies (not so relevant) or subordinates of already known characters (relevant, but moreso because of their ranking below important characters). Subordinates usually have lower bounties than they would otherwise have if they went solo, so even then the bounties don't really reflect the reality.

Regarding bounties and the Strawhats: Of course I think it is necessary for Luffy to get an increase in his bounty after every major incident. It shows that there have been officials who have evaluated his threat to the World Government. However the number itself doesn't really tell a lot. Before Impel Down and Marineford Luffy was mostly known by outside characters for his bounty and somewhat for his recklessness. Having a bounty show up as the only information was a great way for other characters to suddenly get surprised as they realised Luffy and his crew weren't some no-names.
After Impel Down and Marineford basically everyone has heard of "Strawhat", and very few people will not be able to recognise Luffy from all the newspaper articles and bounty photos, and it will be the stuff Luffy have been through (Enies Lobby, Marineford, Impel Down, Dressrosa, Sabaody Archipegalo, possibly Alabasta and his relation to Garp and Ace) that people will think of when they hear of Luffy. Not his 500 million bounty.

However I still think it is cool when the other Strawhat members get a bounty increase. Usually Zoro and Robin are recognised, and sometimes Sanji. By giving the SHs higher bounties their name and pressence in a stand-alone context also increases.

    • RE: Chapter 796: The Soldiers Decision

Bellamy is the only character of the three (Rebecca, Barto and Bellamy) with the right history, moments, and attitude to join the crew.

Barto has the strength and uniqueness but his character doesn't fit at all (who seriously wants him fanboying throughout the rest of the manga series?) and he haven't been through emotional trouble (and his history is very ambiguous).

Rebecca is weak, she is boring, and she has no history with the crew outside of Luffy and Robin.

Bellamy is strong, unique abilities and attitude/personality, has history with the crew and the former villain, and he has been through a very big emotional roller coaster in this arc. His history is well known, and he did previously have meaningful goals regarding piracy. He does however lack a proper flashback, and right now he is devoid of any ambition and goals. This chapter didn't revolve very much around him either. I think you can remove him from the list too.

I think it was very clear that this chapter very much had the purpose of setting up:

      • A proper goodbye to Rebecca, Dressrosa, and the other pirates/gladiators
      • Unification with daughter and father (family bonds being more important than public opinion)
      • A fun way of having the SHs escape the marine (with both Fujitora and Sengoku being involved, how badass is that?)
      • Making Doflamingo & crew's capturing meaningful with important figures

      @Bongking:

Pretty sure that Kyros is going to turn out to be Kobra's son and Vivi's brother. Him being royalty as well fixes most of these domestic and public image problems with the Riku family and them all living together. Bellamy pulling a Mr. 2 would be awesome as someone mentioned already, but I'm really getting the vibe that if anyone joins this arc it will be him.

Kyros being royal was a rumor he created himself. It is not true. It was made to make the public acknowledge Rebecca as a legitimate princess.

I love Kaidou's attitude that he just want to see the world burn, hence attacking Whitebeard, because why not, and hence planning on starting the greatest war ever. I guess that's the kind of mentality you develop when you simply can't die. Would also explain why he has been captured 18 times and defeated 7 times, because when you simply don't give a fuck and have nothing to lose you're eventually going to take too risky bets.

I'd like to see Luffy's statistics for all this. He has also suffered defeat, been captured and avoided certain death a lot of times now, albeit likely for different reasons.

It seems our buddies are more active than one would think

Capone sees the news about the Strawhats in Dressrosa.

Caeser will definitely take you all along with him

Having Caeser on your ship will be the defeat of the Strawhats/the Strawhats on the ship of Big Moms.

      Considering that

      • Capone is on the ship of Big Moms
      • Everyone is calm and uninjured
      • Capone's body is not utilized for an attack

So either this means that they are under Big Moms command and about to attack the Strawhats or that the Strawhats escaped but that they will be hunted.

Here are my arguments for why the Strawhats escaped:

      • It has been many hours since the confrontation.
      • It is not in the style of One Piece to have a big fight now just as the main villain has been defeated.
      • Escaping with Caeser was the priority, which means that using coup de burst would be the easiest solution.
      • "Wah, father" implies that the crew is surprised by the boldness of their captain, as in they are surprised at his confidence in catching Caeser.

nice title page, showcasing the Strawhat "nationalities" once again…. though checking they don't quiiite match up to what Oda-San said before (20 volumes ago...) ?
      Luffy: Brazilian-- Japanese?
      Zoro: Japanese-- German?
      Nami: Swedish--American?
      Usopp: African
      Sanji: French
      Chopper: Canadian
      Robin: Russian--Indian?
      Franky: American--Chinese?
      Brook: Austrian --British?

Well, three of them still match up but all the others seem to have changed. Even stranger since some of the representations seem to have just moved around.

Usopp is Brazilian and Chopper is Inuit (not restricted to a certain country).

      @Sereques:

I'm more interested in how they take DFs from people.

Probably in the same way Shinokuni's df transfered to a fruit:

Have a suitable non-devil fruit nearby that absorbs the power of a dead devil fruit user, hence Burgess wanting to kill Luffy (and is likely carrying fruits on his back that can absorb devil fruit powers).

My idea is that this is what happened with Ace's devil fruit (Doflamingo hiding a bag somewhere during the war because of Caesar Clown's knowledge) and Whitebeard's devil fruit (hence Blackbeard having to stand nearby Whitebeard when he dies ).

Before Punk Hazard I thought the thing about transfering devil fruits was related to Blackbeard's gravity powers, but seeing as we have three events where Blackbeard wasn't present this is likely not the case. What is more likely is that the gravity powers enable him to carry more than one devil fruit power.

So the question is if the "devil fruit stealing technique" the Blackbeard pirates are using is related to having a suitable fruit nearby the powers transfer to, or if it somehow related to Blackbeard's gravity devil fruit?

Personally I believe it's non-devil fruits Burgess is carrying in his back. Just like what happened with Shinokuni and likely also Ace's devil fruit (and maybe Whitebeard's too).

    • RE: Chapter 778: Tactics No.5

I am a little disappointed in the discrepancy of power between Doflamingo's crew and himself. On one hand it makes kind of sense now how much respect they have for Doflamingo, but on the other hand it is a bit weird that someone with the ambition, power and famousity of Doflamingo doesn't have individually stronger crew mates. I really thought that Vergo fit Doflamingo nicely in terms of personality, ambition and fighting skills, but it kind of kills a lot of the hype of Dressrosa that the best of Doflamingo's fighters was beaten before we really got to know Doflamingo himself.

I think if Sanji had his own fight, Zoro's fight had been more bloody, and if there had been less involvement by the gladiators (and more of the Strawhats) then it would be a more satisfying ending. Right now it feels like Fishman Island where only Luffy get to have a fulfilling fight (a much better one that is) after very very long build up.

Maybe I'm just looking into it too much… But this arc started out so nicely with the Colosseum, Sabo, Fujitora, Green Bit, Burgess, Franky getting 3-manned... And yet it all seems so far away because (in my opinion) all the time spent sneaking into the palace, invading the palace after its relocation and too much focus on Kyros/Rebecca/King Riku. I think it was necesarry to bring Rebecca and the royal family into the story, but I would rather have seen less involvement of Kyros and Rebecca when it came to the actual battle progression.

I have no idea what you people had expected from Rebecca. She had an emotional breakdown in the Colosseum against Diamante even with the support of Barto and Sabo. The same to happen this time around was kind of expected.

In typical One Piece style Rebecca calls for help, and who shows up? The exact person she was begging to save her. We then get a couple of flashbacks about Rebecca being taught as an orphan about how she had to learn to protect herself because no one would be able to save her, but now her dad is finally back in her life and she doesn't have to protect herself no more… Maybe a bit cheesy, but all of it made sense nonetheless.

This chapter ended a 10 year strugling of an orphan. When we first met Rebecca she was all alone in the Colosseum with enemies every where. Now she has a father figure and friend(s), and her enemies are slowly disappearing.

Rebecca has no role as a heroine in this story. Violet fits that character type much more.

Did Pica place the palace on top of Flower Hill? Or am I mistaken?

      @Sereques:

I still don't get what Burgess is doing in Dressrosa TBH, he was never going to win MeraX2

Why not? He seems to be the strongest of all the tournament participants if you exclude Sabo and Luffy.

I'm surprised we didn't get have a conversation between Koala and Robin this chapter. Robin still doesn't know about the pressence of the revolutionaries yet.

      @wolfwood:

Someone really should be taking odds on the Diamante, Slimer and Jesus team versus everyone else on the goddamn island.

Should be one hell of a brawl. And if the rest of the fighting family shows up we should get a nice gauge of what they can do.

      I'd love this to happen.

      @Mirage:

At first I was really disappointed on how Burgess and Diamant didn't react at all but then I reread chapter and i noticed that when Sabo did his attack last week he destroyed all the ring but his place stayed safe.
we can see here http://readms.com/r/one_piece/744/2337/5 that the center of the ring was not destroyed
we can also see Burgess and diamant losing their balance.

ok now i have no problem with this scene but, I still don't like how the fact that after a lot of chapter in this arc focusing on the mera mera, sabo eat the DF in a litle panel, like the mera mera was nothing more but a detail in this arc, I personally found it very rushed Oda could'have done this in a much much better way.

And about sabo being Nbr 2 of revolutionary, i don't know how to feel, either he is really that strong and i underestimated him, either the revolutionary are not that strong…. and i was disappointed by the fact that the revolutionary army looks like a crew, I was thinking it may be like an actual army (like marine) with generals (who are as strong as admirals) etc etc....

Beside that on usopp side it was expected nothing special.
I loved the end, too bad Oda is taking a break, I really want to see this birdcage.

Also I'm probably one of the few people but I thought Sabo's design was great, one of the bast in the series.

The revolutionary are certainly not that strong. There is a reason why everything is done in secret. They are building up power all across the World, which they have done for years. Overthrowing dictators and governments that are going against the will of the people. The revolutionaries are not a crew. They are an organisation. If they had the power of the marines they could outright fight the World government in an open battle instead of doing everything in secret.

Ivankov, Inazuma, previously Kuma and now Sabo have all shown to be revolutionary commanders. They may not have the strength of the World Government top officials or maybe even a Yonkou crew commanders, but their strength lies in intelligence, secrecy and undermining the World government where they are weakest, not in raw numbers and brute strength.
