Last week was a "double issue" right? Does that mean there's no chapter this week?

RE: Chapter 620: "The Theme Park We Dreamed Of" Discussion
If it was not for Jinbei, Luffy would have died a lot. More importantly, he is the one who made him realize that after Ace's death that he did not lose everything.
I was like WTH Luffy say something instead of drinking your tea.I completely agree with you.
-
RE: Chapter 620: "The Theme Park We Dreamed Of" Discussion
I didn't like the chapter very much. I think I liked sanji better when he was silently nosebleeding instead of running his mouth.

RE: Most Despicable Villain(s) so far…
Oda introduced Caribou purely for the sake of being haki fodder. I don't know why anybody would think otherwise.
-
RE: Eiichiro Oda: " I want ranks among the mangaka"
Yeah, I agree that having a goal would probably make one piece even better as a manga. Goals are always a good motivator.
-
RE: Questions That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread
Yeah that's what I like about Luffy. Dude doesn't even read the newspaper so he doesn't have any biases when he meets people. Probably does it all on instinct too lol.
-
RE: Questions That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread
I've always wondered why Luffy can crack his knuckles when he's made of rubber. Haven't been on the forum long so I don't know if someone has asked this before.
-
RE: Things That You Would Like to See in the Manga
I want an arc (possibly the current arc) where every strawhat has a fairly long 1-on-1 fight with a difficult opponent.
Kinda like at Enies Lobby, only that every strawhat would have a battle.
Since Hodi and VDD fell so quickly I don't think that will happen.
-
RE: Colours prediction thread ver.2 (sp)
I didn't realize it earlier, but Hodi has a sash just like Zoro and Luffy. Is it some kind of fashion statement?
-
RE: 490: ''Mighty Rivals! The New Era Begins!''
I only mentioned it once and you don't have to be so mean. Was just explaining in case he didn't understand.
-
RE: 490: ''Mighty Rivals! The New Era Begins!''
Haven't seen the episode yet, but yet it fails. Nice logic. The whole point of seeing Luffy scream is to show that he was at the brink of breaking his mind and then he did. It says that Luffy was awake enough to scream then just snapped to a state where all he can do is just sit there and just replay his brother getting impaled and dying over and over. But then again, it's my point of view so whateves.
I've read the manga and I've seen the preview and it's enough to tell that the next episode will be full of luffy making weird and awkward faces, random flashbacks and terrible gurgling and screaming sounds. I'm glad Oda skipped that part in the manga, because it wasn't something I would have enjoyed seeing. Having Luffy hit his head on stuff and break things is a lot less disturbing.
Edit: A silent scream at the heavens/god would have been a lot more meaningful than that disturbing racket Luffy made when Ace died but I guess they were trying to fill up their time slot as usual. So I guess you could call it a filler scream?
-
RE: Colours prediction thread ver.2 (sp)
I really like the color of Zoro's sash, it looks very nice.
-
RE: 490: ''Mighty Rivals! The New Era Begins!''
I actually like Sengoku's voice. It's Ben Beckman's voice I can't stand. It's too bad the guy who used to play ben beckman died cuz the new voice is terrible. And Kid's voice actor could use some training cuz he was lame in this episode.
-
RE: 490: ''Mighty Rivals! The New Era Begins!''
Ugh, I don't really want to see their fail attempt at showing Luffy waking up…I rarely like their additions to Oda's story, and they really fail at showing luffy scream. That scene after Ace died was terrible, I thought Luffy did a silent scream at the heavens in the manga but they had him gurgling and other crap.

RE: General 'Haki' Discussion
You do not know whether or not the WB fodder actually injuried Croc. But even if they didn't, it doesn't matter. What matters is that they were able to push him (and Daz Bones) back without water and apparently without seastone. It's pretty obvious even fodder members on Whitebeard's ship could use Haki.
Crocodile has experience fighting the WB pirates. You saw how quickly Jozu knocked him out so imagine what would happen if a fodder manage to turn Crocodile's head into sand. He wouldn't be able to protect himself from haki attacks. Crocodile backing off could easily be explained as him being careful. Since his sneak attack on Whitebeard failed, he was getting ready for another attempt. If WB fodder pirates had haki, then they should have easily overwhelmed the marines since only their vice admirals and above had haki. Too many of the pirates on that battle field were falling to random attacks like Akainu's magma shower. You'd think that if any of them had COO we would have seen them dodging or predicting the path of the magma fists.
-
RE: General 'Haki' Discussion
I don't think haki is common at all and since wb "pirate fodder" never actually injured Crocodile I doubt they have it. Amazon Lily is a special case. Sure, the further you go into the New World the more likely you are to find haki users, but even then they aren't very many.
-
RE: Chapter 618: "Proposal" Discussion
It would be nice if Big Mom was evil, but everything seems to point to her being good and probably Lola's mom.
-
RE: General 'Haki' Discussion
I agree with Ryuksgelus for the most part, he really gets it.
Considering what we know about the length it takes to learn Haki. Doesn't seem likely that Sanji and Zoro will learn it within the duration of the rest of the series without another timeskip. Unless of course they already know how to use it.
Think of the New World as the ultimate training ground. If the strawhats have enough high quality fights, they can all master and explore the depths of haki before Raftel.

RE: General 'Haki' Discussion
He fodderized this guy: http://www.mangareader.net/103-31007-5/one-piece/chapter-556.html
and I think Doflamingo is deffinetly stronger than Croc, and I mean by alot, since, like has been said before, it looks he's just playing with the guy he didn't nessiserily wan't to kill him, at least I can't see it that way, I mean look he probably just wanted his attention: http://www.mangareader.net/103-41091-8/one-piece/chapter-566.htmlAll Croc has to do is touch a guy and they dehydrate to death and Moria can make it so they disappear under sunlight. I wouldn't call Doflamingo stronger than them just yet. He seems interesting, but Doflamingo might end up being just fodder in the end. Once the details behind his devil fruit come to light I don't think the strawhats will have much trouble with him.

RE: General 'Haki' Discussion
@I survived the buster call: That all those people who had goals felt the need to see the death of the man who was probably the strongest alive supported my theory but its kind of too much to explain. I believe the question was if Mihawk ever had a crew and if he did what happened to them? From my point of view it's impossible to become a pirate without a crew and once you become a pirate even if you become a loner you'll still be hunted down. So Mihawk must have a had a crew before he became a loner. So what happened to them? Since we don't know what Mihawk's original goal was it is hard to say, but since at least half of the shichibukai present at Roger's death were aiming for the pirate king seat (Moria and Crocodile) I deemed that it is very likely that Doflamingo and Mihawk both aimed for that same seat. Since Mihawk no longer seems to be aiming for the pirate king seat, his dream must have ended at some point. And because Croc and Moria's dreams were ended by a Yonkou and their crews no longer seem to exist it became apparent that the same thing may have happened to Mihawk. (Coruscation thinks Mihawk might have just disbanded his crew but I'm not so sure)
It's true that its not definite but as you can see there is a logical method to my madness and it's not like it doesn't make sense. If you think of it from the governments point of view, it is very beneficial to make people "who have survived an encounter with a yonkou" shichibukai. Kind of like how Whitebeard is famous for drawing with Roger. And the government has a long list of candidates for shichibukai because there are tons of silver medalists who have lost to the yonkou.
Unfortunately this cannot be confirmed
for all we know he was on rogers ship and while thus on it discovered the reason for wanting to end the WG blank history blah blah blah
shakky was a pirate and look at her now beating bums to the curb who dont pay their tabs, rayleigh coats ships and maybe dragon wanted to go change the worldHis goal is revolution what are you talking about lol. Ohhh…you think Dragon might have been a pirate at first? I seriously doubt that but not much is known about him so it's possible.

RE: General 'Haki' Discussion
I'm sure all our questions will be answered when Caribou is dealt with, whenever that is.
-
RE: General 'Haki' Discussion
Yeah it is that hard that foidder AL can use it with ease. Luffy had to learn all 3 and even the rarest.
I never said Sanji should be a master in what ever. But basics are enough. He had 2 years to come up with something or reailze what it can be or even Iva explained it.
By your logic why Sanji and Luffy become stronger even they weren't training like Zoro all the time.
Not saying it is a prove. But Sanji and Zoro are very likely to have it. That's my stand and you can say whatever you want
Sanji and Luffy become stronger with each fight. Zoro trains so that he can master the new techniques he discovers with each fight and use them at will.
I'm worried that if ussop doesn't stop doubting he won't able to obtain a strong haki. Since haki is "The act of not doubting" afterall…
Edit: Well not necessarily worried but interested in how Oda will make it all work out. -
RE: General 'Haki' Discussion
Dragon wasn't a pirate but he definitely had a goal <.<
-
RE: General 'Haki' Discussion
Excuse me do you not get a slightest hint of this page of how hard it is!?!?!?!? http://www.mangareader.net/103-56928-16/one-piece/chapter-597.html
Yeah, and I find it hard to believe that people think that Sanji was coming up with haki while he was running. He was probably dreaming of women the whole time.
-
RE: General 'Haki' Discussion
@I:
If you have any I'd be interested if you could provide links and quotes for this. I only recall him ever being spoken of as the strongest swordsman, blah blah, and rather a man of mystery otherwise as far as his past went. Am I forgetting some scene with the Gorosei or something where they spoke of something more?
He was at Roger's execution with a lot of people who were and still are shichibukai. Since some of them had dreams of becoming the pirate king I assumed Mihawk was there because he too had a goal. Since it was before Shanks became his own captain, I'm also assuming it was before Mihawk and Shanks ever fought.
- I didn't say that he must have Haki because they've not fought him yet.
- Not if he was just playing around with him, which it looked like he was. It's short-sighted to base your conclusion off that lone encounter.
- They're not fake Shichibukai, but Doflamingo is a lot stronger than them. He fodderized one of Whitebeard's commanders, and it's very unlikely that any of the commanders (except perhaps Ace) couldn't use Haki. At his level it would only make sense for him to have it.
Who exactly did Doflamingo fodderize? And I don't think Doflamingo is stronger than Crocodile at all. Especially if he can't injure him.
-
RE: General 'Haki' Discussion
The weird thing about Sanji using COA is that the most basic CoA is mostly defensive and used the way Sentoumaru and Marigold use it. For him to have mastered it to the point that he can use it on his legs is a little farfetched for me. I think you need lots of image training and you need to be able to turn your haki on and off in like .1 secs for it to be useful in a fight. Turning on an imaginary armor is harder than most people make it out to be.
-
RE: General 'Haki' Discussion
Yet one can safely assume that the STRONGEST swordsman in the world can use haki. akainu said that vista can use haki, i think it's highly likely that mihawk can use it!
I don't think Mihawk has haki and I think the only reason Vista was able to fight on par with Mihawk at all was because of his haki advantage. Otherwise Mihawk would have decimated him.
-
RE: General 'Haki' Discussion
I find it very plausible that he doesn't have interest in being a "normal" pirate at all (meaning he doesn't want to be the pirate king or that things) so he accepted being a Shichibukai for the WG to stop bothering him. He seems like that kind of person, who just wants to sail here and there destroying some ships without worrying about anything
Yeah Mihawk seems like that now but we know he was an active pirate before so he must have had a goal at some point and apparently did not achieve it.
-
RE: General 'Haki' Discussion
@Shergal: Mihawk wouldn't be a shichibukai if he could take on a Yonkou. And I don't think mihawk wants revenge but he did seem interested in testing his strength against whitebeard to see how he'd do. Which means he doesn't consider himself at Yonkou level at all. And they have haki teachers amongst the marines, they didn't just learn it naturally. A lot of people die without ever achieving it so its not as easy as you seem to think. And what makes you think all the shichibukai are at Vice Admiral level? Have you forgotten that Garp is a vice admiral and most of the vice admirals have been around since Roger's time?
@Coruscation: Just because they've introduced haki now doesn't mean that all the shichibukai the strawhats haven't defeated yet have haki lol. Pretty sure if Doflamingo had it he would have used it against Crocodile. Sounds like you're making Crocodile and Moria out to be fake shichibukai the way you keep mentioning "at that level they should be at least this strong" or something.
-
RE: General 'Haki' Discussion
@Myu:
You can't jump to that conclusion. If it were to be simple as that Whitebeard, Marco and Vista shouldn't have had Haki too. They had sliced the Admirals but none of them did get a direct hit.
The admirals have haki and can predict attacks. They probably didn't really get cut but manipulated their bodies to make it look like it or did some form of COA. Crocodile doesn't have that ability. Doflamingo definitely doesn't have haki. And Whitebeard did serious damage to Akainu so I don't know where you were going with that.
-
RE: General 'Haki' Discussion
Perhaps, but:
- I think Akainu is the new FA,
- Coby's dream is to be an Admiral.
Aokiji fits as FA for the end-of-series Marines IMO. He's an older, wisened guy who's actually quite moral.
But if Akainu's the new Fleet Admiral he won't be able to hunt down pirates anymore…It'd take a lot of the fun and terror out of one piece. Aokiji's more laid back, he'd definitely make a better fleet admiral. The terror of Akainu's dark justice is what keeps pirates like BB on their toes. Akainu's license to kill would go to waste lol. And Coby's dream for now is to an Admiral, but he might get the courage to aim higher there's a lot of chapters left in the series.
-
RE: General 'Haki' Discussion
I know (or do we really…? I'm not sure, but whatever) but my theory is that the Marines won't be straight-up eradicated, but rather the bad seeds rooted out and someone good and moral - like Aokiji - placed at the helm.
If Aokiji is currently the new fleet admiral he'll probably step down and Coby will take over.
-
RE: General 'Haki' Discussion
I'm sticking to Luffy vs. Akainu, Zoro vs. Kizaru and Sanji vs. the new Admiral. That sounds like the best possible line-up, to me. I hope Aokiji won't be defeated by the Strawhats; I see him as the Fleet Admiral at the end of the series.
The marines might no longer exist at the end of the series lol. There's gonna be a world war remember?
-
RE: General 'Haki' Discussion
It seems obvious that if a crew doesn't have at least one person with haki b4 they enter the new world they don't have much of a chance of succeeding. It's the most obvious reason for failure in the new world (not having haki). That's why it was important for Raleigh to teach at least luffy haki so that he could teach the others as they went along. It's pretty hard to find someone to teach haki, only the special few have trained it to a usable extent (and Raleigh and Garp are probably the best teachers in existence right now).
Up until awhile ago Luffy was fighting every shichibukai he came across and it seemed obvious that none of them had haki. If not for hancock's case I would have said none of them could use it. I'm sure Doflamingo doesn't have it (he couldn't hurt Crocodile), and Kuma obviously doesn't have it since he couldn't predict Zoro's attacks. The name "world's greatest swordsman" twists things, it makes you want to give him the haki attribute but he doesn't really seem to have it (he's just a "really good" swordsman with awesome senses).
@Regular: Kuma was a pirate/revolutionary, he was called violent kuma/tyrant and had a reputation for being ruthless. And yes my reasoning does seem logical and you'll have to tell me what's wrong with it. I said they probably lost to Yonkou because I'm not sure who else could have ended their dreams to become pirate king.
-
RE: General 'Haki' Discussion
I dont really see Luffy soloing all 3 Admirals in the future when the SH eventually face the marines sometime near the series end. The monster trio will end up getting paired each with one of the 3 Admirals during that time so all 3 will have some degree of haki knowledge to be able to damage the logia Admirals.
It's true that might happen but Luffy was crazy enough to take on all 3 admirals without haki so he might try it again in the future depending on the situation. And I don't think the strawhats will ever have to face all 3 of them at once anyway especially since one of them is has taken Sengoku's position.
-
RE: General 'Haki' Discussion
I like how that statement came from the nowhere, backing up with what facts? YES, Moria and Croc got defeated.. but so what? Does that mean that Dofla or Mihawk did as well? So by your logic it means that a person w/o a crew has lost a battle. Which I dont find very rational or logical.
A lot of your points are made up (defeat, goals, haki). My logic is pretty sound and has a clear flow. And since you haven't mentioned any solid evidence to dispute my theory, it seems like you disagree with it because you don't like it. Pirates have crews it's pretty simple logic. Their bounties prove that they must have had crews at one point in time. I doubt that mihawk has been able to sail through the grandline by himself since the beginning.
-
RE: General 'Haki' Discussion
Apart from Jinbei and Hancock, The shichibukai are a group of pirates who went to the new world and got defeated. The fact that they all lack crews proves that (although some of them formed organizations after their defeat). And most of them were present when the pirate king died which means they were probably aiming for his seat. And the factor that had the biggest role in their defeat was that they all lacked haki. Mihawk is a part of that group. I'm guessing the only reason the government trusts those pirates at all is that they know that they want revenge on the yonkou for killing their crews. I'm not sure what part kuma plays in all this since his revolutionary role twists things.
-
RE: General 'Haki' Discussion
@Corucation Of course marines will share haki info with other marines. But for pirates the knowledge of haki is scarce and only those at yonkou level or very capable new world crews even know about it. If such knowledge was easily obtained then not only mihawk but crocodile, jinbei, kuma, and doflamingo would all have it. You make it sound like mihawk is some special being but he's just a strong pirate.
@sanji499 What makes you think that scaring the sea monster away wasn't the first time Shanks ever showed an apptitude for COC? And you're even assuming that he had mastered the basics of haki at that time.
-
RE: General 'Haki' Discussion
Mihawk not being able to use Haki would be the weirdest thing of all. Vista uses it and he's not even the strongest swordsman, every single other top-tier we've seen can use it, it makes no sense for Mihawk to be an exception.
Our assumptions are based on the fact that Mihawk has not shown haki at all. The second Mihawk shows haki even a little we will agree with you lol.
You forget that when mihawk asked what luffy's goal was he said that in order to become pirate king luffy would have to become stronger than him. Which means that all the yonkou's who are at the top of the pirate world are stronger than mihawk. And since shanks is a swordsman with one hand and is stronger than the greatest swordsman in the world we can only assume that this is because mihawk does not have haki.
I find it hard to believe that Mihawk wouldn't teach Zoro haki.
Mihawk agreed to teach Zoro the way of the sword, he never agreed to teach him haki. Whether mihawk has haki or not does not change this fact and mihawk is not one to give out gifts for free.
-
RE: General 'Haki' Discussion
Why do you base a belief that no lvl 6 prisoners had Haki based on 3 of them not having it? That seems kind of odd. I don't think Haki is such a scarce ability as people sometimes think it is, pirates of that level really ought to have it for the most part IMO. To me it was telling when Oda let us know that all Vice Admiral-class Marines use Haki – that's the level at which Logia lolinvincibility ends, basically.
There's no reason that Shiryuu can't have it just because he was equal to Magellan.
It doesn't seem like any of them had haki and since none of them were df users it seems even more likely that they aren't. I seem to remember Kizaru saying that it's pointless to capture Raleigh because he'd just break out again. I know it's a bad example but trying to keep haki prisoners in jail is pretty hard. It's a point that hard to argue since there isn't much evidence but it just doesn't seem likely.
-
RE: General 'Haki' Discussion
I agree with everything you say here except one thing I don't think BB actually has aqquired the ability to use haki, therefore making it impossible for him to teach it to his crew but than again we don't know what might happen in 2 years
BB can definitely use haki. He knew what it was way before Luffy did. He even commented that Luffy's haki had improved when they clashed at impel down. It's even probably accurately assumed that BB has COC. It's not surprising since BB was on whiebeard's crew, and his plan probably involved freeing prisoners from impel down and teaching them haki and then taking on Shanks.
@Coruscation:I'm sure that at least a few of BB's crewmembers already knew Haki. That is, the level 6 pirates. They were the strongest people in level 6, and most people there should be at a level where using Haki is commonplace. It's honestly strange that Auger & Jesus didn't seem to, but whatever.
I don't think anyone in impel down including the guards could use haki. The only level 6 people we knew were Ace, Crocodile and Jinbei and none of them could use haki. I'm sure if Shiryuu could have used haki he wouldn't have been afraid of Magellan since they're supposedly even in strength.
Edit: I'm pretty sure Ace got defeated not only because of the yami yami no mi but also because BB was using haki to hit him. That explains why BB was able to hit so hard.

RE: Chapter 618: "Proposal" Discussion
@ultimateclima:
Usopp also made the weakling trio "canon" too when he said he's no longer part of the "weakling trio" (nami/chopper/usopp).
The weakling trio exists because of ussop lol. He's influenced Nami and chopper into thinking that it's still alright to be normal and that the others are just not natural. I thought he might have grown out of it but he proved he hadn't last chapter. Ussop will have the most trouble learning haki because he is the guy with the most disbelief in one piece.
-
RE: Most Despicable Villain(s) so far…
I still think it's pretty clear that he will be the toughest opponent among all of the shichibukai (well Mihawk on a similar level perhaps but we don't know, heck Zoro might as well have beaten Mihawk alone during the timeskip, buut I doubt it!!)… no I definately think that DoFla is something special!!
I think Zoro wanted to check his progress after the 2 years and fought Mihawk. That's probably why he's missing an eye. The next time they fight will be a fight to the death.
-
RE: Chapter 618: "Proposal" Discussion
I think Sanji being willing to die for his dreams shows that he has grown. When we first met him he was calling zoro an idiot for fighting mihawk and he thought both zoro and luffy were crazy.
-
RE: Most Despicable Villain(s) so far…
That isn't obvious at all. And to elaborate, I find Moria pathetic is due to the losing streak he has been having. First Luffy, then Jinbe, and then Dofla. I have a hard time hating a guy that gets beat in almost 100% of his fights.
Doflamingo was backed up by many pacifista so I wouldn't count that. And since cutting off someone's shadow in broad daylight instantly kills them I'd say moria's not out of the running yet.
-
RE: Chapter 618: "Proposal" Discussion
He uses G2 for all his attacks now, but I'm not sure he uses G2 for his soru anymore.
He trained for two years so I wouldn't be surprised if he was able to move really fast w/out G2 now. But its hard to tell if he actually has since he moves too fast for us to tell.
-
RE: Chapter 618: "Proposal" Discussion
You guys think Luffy used soru this chapter? Or was that just him jumping?
I don't know if we should call what luffy does soru but he definitely used gear 2.
