Yeah, that's what I got from reading the story too more-or-less. Im had a thing for Lili, that ended up going bad. Now he's got a crush on Vivi while still spiting the Nefertari name, and he wants her for himself or whatever. It's childish, but I think he might also be an immortalized child hence his extreme reactions. Didn't really read into the animal cover pages, I don't really put stock in those, but I guess they could be interpreted toward the same thing.

Well, maybe Oda is trying to subvert expectations once again.
Let's be clear: at this point, a connection between Kuma and Amazon Lily is the safest bet possible. There's no way Kuma would send Luffy to a place he had no connection at all.
Now, what that connection could be is anyone's guess. It could be something simple or deep. We just don't know, and the longer Oda keeps that secret the more important the revelation will be.
Because his co-warlord Hancock lives there, so he did know about it? Not sure why you think it's anything significant.

She doesn't need a reason to set out to sea, she's already at sea and capable enough.
I mean, her ship was eaten up by a robot creature, and being chased by forces like Saturn might be a little too much for her, no?
That would presumably not be a problem now seeing as she no longer needs to try to get to a heavily protected island like Egghead, which is remarkable enough she was able to get as close as she did. And since she'll likely be with Vegapunk or the Revos, she won't have to deal with danger alone.
-
RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 10 - Egghead)
There's really no reason to consider Bonney joining. She hasn't shown any interest in that, and Luffy hasn't shown interest in bringing her into the crew. She doesn't need a reason to set out to sea, she's already at sea and capable enough. The Nika thing and connection to Kuma gives her connection to Iva, so she's basically being set up to join the Revos like her father. She doesn't have anything to contribute to the crew. Her power set is limited, weak and overly vague, she doesn't have any special skills or occupational role. She was created on a whim with like 8 other characters so her story as-is is already kinda shoehorned in. She's just arc princess like Rebecca etc.

RE: Episode 8 (Worst in the East) - Discussion
@zeltrax225 said in Episode 8 (Worst in the East) - Discussion:
@FelRes yeah, everyone felt almost perfectly cast except for Luffy. And I tried really hard to like him (even going as far to understanding the actor and realizing he's so young so that's a given he will pale to his counterparts in experience) but still couldn't find myself saying that's Luffy. It felt like a different character and I can pinpoint the reason being that a lot of what you know and understand about Luffy is through his actions with the world and the characters in them but there was a lot of say instead of tell with his character here. A huge chunk of that lies in the pacing (not giving a lot of characters room to breathe) but when it comes to Luffy where action is everything to him, you need that room. It also doesn't help that his constant woohoo yoohoo and overexcitement happens in brief bursts and he actually showed more of a serious expression more than he is shown genuinely having fun.
But I get it. Luffy is probably one of the hardest characters to translate into any live-action medium but I still wished that they did better. A lot of heart felt lost in this adaptation and I can understand that because of pacing and constraints but I didn't like how screentime and scenes were prioritized over things that were cut that actually held so much soul and formed the core of the series. The ones that were prioritized felt so much for the sake of TV and this need to worldbuild from the get-go when, even if that is still what makes one piece good, what makes one piece great at the very start was the characters and their relationships with others.
I'd say the heart is absolutely there, overflowing with heart even. It's just that heart doesn't translate to acting ability. This show was a great adaptation, they did so much more than I expected and all the little details shine and make it fun to watch as a fan. The pacing was brisk but they worked it out to cover what needed to be covered. Expanding on Koby/Helmeppo/Garp was a great idea. But yeah, the SHs need more breathing room to build the bond more and make the emotional scenes more impactful. That's prolly the biggest challenge of adapting East Blue in 8 episodes, but at least they're together now so that issue shouldn't hold in Alabasta onward.
I think it's just okay-good as a TV show though, without the context of being an existing fan with knowledge and expectations. If you were to go in totally blind without any info or knowing One Piece exists, you'd still be very aware you're watching an anime adaptation. It's very cheesy, but One Piece already thrives on that in its source material unlike stuff like Cowboy Bebop.

It might be a little thing for most but for me it really drives home that yeah, that's not really Luffy. I'm not going to be apologetic about this at all because, with all respect to the actor and Oda's decision to cast him, the depiction of Luffy in this LA felt like a different person. This doesn't help that he wears a serious face throughout most of the fight (with Kuro and with Arlong). I know it's hard to do Luffy right in a grounded setting but numerous things that I have yet to mention feels so off that I can't say that's the luffy I know. In my mind, a live action Luffy would feel like a character from Stephen Chow action movies 90% of the time and would show Inaki's seriousness the 10% of the time when he needs to. This Luffy felt like he was forced to smile throughout and is one scene away from relapsing into his dark and serious expression at any given moment.
I enjoyed the show and thought most of the acting was acceptable to great, but still feel like Luffy was very miscast. His actor didn't really have that much range in the show, and it never felt natural anytime he did anything more than basic talking. He's missing Luffy's cheekiness and fun energy, and doesn't feel like a character that would easily pull in allies like the manga/anime version. In contrast, Rudd Nami also felt pretty different from the manga/anime version, but she sold the live action character better. Don't know if this is a direction issue or casting issue or what, but I really hope Godoy grows into the role better if this show keeps going.

Given that we don't know her past and especially the "task/role" she was playing for the WG it's too early to tell. If it was something really important (it seems that way) she could become an ally of the SH along with Vegapunk...
Did she have some task or role with the WG? I thought they would just be worried that her connection to Kuma would stir up trouble, but now it's a non-issue. Unless I forgot something.

Plenty of people interpreted it as a d'aww cuteness situation when S-Snake used that ability, so I doubt it. You'd have to be a weirdo to think they were perving over a little girl in One Piece of all things.
With Usopp, sure. But the CP goons even sticking their tongues out definitely didn't read as "cute" (Oda drew them like he always does when one of his characters is lusting over any woman).
Also, manga in general cannot afford the good will that you are giving it. Japanese media is not exactly a stranger to going there - and not just in the morally awkward 90's - so, yeah, it needed to be stated.Have you never had to hold back a ridiculous face upon seeing a dog in public?

And even the claim that this situation is comparable to what happened with Vander Decken is questionable. Vander Decken ultimately wanted ancient weapon power, while Usopp and Lilith just saw S-Snake cute like how they see puppies and kitties as cute.
Yeah, Decken was after that power. It just happened to be in the form of a young mermaid, so even characters in story could poke fun at how it looked at face value.

Some people are being waaaay too hasty with thinking that was all there was to the DF explanation. Obviously there's gonna be more detail, they didn't just poof into existence.
Just like Kaido will obviously be fleshed out more with a proper flashback. Or how we will get more about Kaido's and Yamato's relationship. Or how Yamato will obviously join the crew after how many times it's been hammered in. Or how the biggest and baddest crew of Zoans in the entire world will obviously have Awakening. Or how Luffy will obviously not just win by having the bigger and stronger punch. Or how Carrot will obviously get her moment to shine and not just be completely offscreened, get burdened with ruling Mokomo Dukedom despite not wanting it and getting no proper resolution.
I hope Vegapunk will give us a more detailed explanation when/if things calm down but after Wano I'm keeping my expectations low. The first "reveal" what Devil Fruits are just didn't land for me, at all.
The only thing there that was reasonable to expect was a Kaido flashback, and even then we still got some bits. Rest of that was either established enough or never a sure thing. None of that is really that major either, they're just things some fans wanted but not big plot points. I expect devil fruits to be expanded on to some degree. It totally fits the theme of the series, so I'm satisfied with the stuff VP stated even if it's just the jist of it.

RE: Chapter 1067: Punk Records
@Deicide said in Chapter 1067: Punk Records:
Is anyone else a bit uninsterested in Egghead?
I think Ch 1061 was the last one that had me intrigued. Since then, it's been just the characters walking around and getting exposition. Only the Law/BB parts made me question where are we going. There has been a lot of answers lately, but little to no adventuring, nor interesting new questions, IMO. Oda usually makes each reveal has a cost (like the character having to surpass something first), but now it feels like the answers are coming free of cost.
I'm still questioning myself if Egghead is a full arc, or just a quick setup for something bigger on the horizon. Which is strange, given how much Vegapunk was hyped over the years. I'm not saying the story is bad, just that it isn't keeping me THAT hyped for each next chapter. If you look the last six chapters (half a volume, or 2 months IRL), aside from from BB/Law clashing, you find surprisingly little tension, action, or adventuring. As a consequence, I find myself with little to talk about each week.
Nah, this arc is fascinating so far. It's obviously a expositional transition arc most likely leading to Elbaf. Vegapunk's pretty much exactly what I expected too, total ally and a goofy old man. We're seeing the payoff of groundwork that was laid years and years ago, things are finally happening. We don't need new questions at this stage, it's time for answers. It's like this was what Oda had in mind during post Enies Lobby.
I also wasn't fond of the scene switching to Law and Blackbeard for those chapters, it didn't really have anything to do with what's going on and coulda been done before the arc started. It was neat that the Pudding thing coincided with the cover story, but maybe the cover story coulda been done faster. Maybe Oda put it there to add a bit of action to keep people from getting too comfy, but now it seems like we're getting into the actual conflict with Cipher Pol arriving. I'm curious to see how thing will escalate, I'm guessing CP will fail to capture Vegapunk and seraphim will be the powerhouse here.

RE: What do you think about the Seraphims ?
@Nilitch said in What do you think about the Seraphims ?:
They sure can't be unbeatable. But they seem to be as strong, or maybe even somehow stronger than their original ? And one of them could potentially be as strong as Mihawk. Which means, that the WG basically bought a yonkou with their Tenryubito money. And I'm not forgetting about the rest of them which consist of a lot of pirates with bounties higher than Marco
The seraphim to me come off as brute force type enemies. They just instinctively fight by hitting fast and hard, and are basic with their abilities. The real people they're based off of obviously have more skill to them, and have to put some thought and strategy into their fighting (or defending). It's like if you've ever played an RPG and run into those special bosses that are dark archtypes of party members. They just kinda come at you like feral animals, but if you're prepared for that you should be okay even if they're intimidating.
-
RE: What do you think about the Seraphims ?
I like them. They're not proper characters, they're tools, and the context for them is interesting as they're the natural progression of the ongoing government experiment conspiracy theory element of the story. And they even have a vague connection to some still-mysterious lore that was recently brought up with King's race. They're very connected to everything that's going on, plus it's a fun excuse to use the warlords' kid designs. And while they're very powerful, they aren't totally unbeatable. I'm curious to see where Oda goes with them.

It wasn't strong enough to see the colors with the naked eye, it was mainly a faded green mist in the sky with the colors appearing on pictures.
I went to Iceland over the summer, it was absolutely gorgeous. So many puffins and so much rye bread. Didn't get to see northern lights tho. It was daylight pretty much 24/7 it was weird but cool. Need to go back one day.
Awesome, glad you got to enjoy your time there. Being October puffins were long gone for me but did get a rare sighting of some reindeer in the distance. Also got a chance to see some of my favorite animal, the Humpback Whale during a whale watching tour. Where all did you go during your visit?
We circled around the entire island. Highlights for me were the myvatn baths, whale watching up north in Dalvik, puffins in Borgarfjörður eystri, and Glacier Lagoon + Diamond Beach. Loved seeing all the seals playing in the lagoon, they're my 2nd fav animal after sharks. And we miraculously saw some humpback whales engaging in some... humping at Diamond Beach. It was nuts. I missed out on elephant rock tho, which was the main thing I wanted to see r.i.p.

RE: Overwatch
Finally got in and have been playing the past couple days.
Of the new characters, Soujorn has been the most fun to use. Very mobile and just feels good to use. Junker Queen has some cool abilities, but I haven't felt compelled to play her much. Might need to try more, but feel like she's just not my type of tank. Kiriko just feels bad and awkward to play, and I dislike her design. She's just heavily cliched Japanese Tracer.
New Orisa is more fun than the old one, but it's underwhelming she's the only one with such a drastic rehaul. I think the only other one with much tweaking was Bastion? He feels weird to play now, especially with the 5v5 balancing. Which is horribly unbalanced. Mei not freezing with her frost gun anymore is also weird to get used to, but she's still op.
Everything else is pretty whatever. The battle pass is abysmal, and nothing about anything justifies the '2' in the title as it largely feels like the same game but more like broken freeware. They didn't even really update the characters' designs, everyone looks the same with minor differences to their hair. Not giving any money to Blizz for this one, but will keep installed a side game for when I want something mindless.

RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 10 - Egghead)

RE: Chapter 1060: Luffy's Dream
I don't really get any complaints about this chapter, it's not like the mystery dream thing is new, it's been an established thing and is obviously being saved for ~Laugh Tale. It's annoying to have to wait so long for mysteries to be solved, but I had zero expectation for anything to be resolved right now. Likewise, Im has already been established as a spooky end-game villain, now we know he's capable of destroying islands, prolly via Uranus which is apparently shaped like a straw hat, whatever that implies.
Nice to see Straw Hat interactions on the ship still going. And not completely dumbed down to their quirks, they're actually discussing things instead of having token lines. Curious to see where the Bonney thing goes, hoping we're being led to Vegapunk next.

RE: Greg: Teacher of SUPER " OP " course !
I don't get why people think I mean a long flashback.
Were you really expecting a usual-sized flashback? For a villain?
I always expected something between more like Yamato's, or Big Mom's at most. Never more than that.
Doflamingo's story was told via snippets, partly during Law's flashback. Big Mom's was quite unique, but took only two chapters. We never had a full-length villain flashback. Maybe there will be one someday, but I doubt it will be now, during such a long arc that already has a full-length flashback.
I don't think Kaido would get more than some key moments in his life, like recruitment by Rocks, the fall of Rocks, meeting Orochi, scenes of his many defeats, something with Yamato… Small things that define many of his beliefs, like "Pirates will always betray each other" or "the victor needs no epithet".
Anything more than a quicky few panels to a couple pages mid-chapter woulda totally ruined the momentum of going from Luffy dying to Nika awakening. That transition happened in an intense moment, not the place for fleshing out Kaido when it's Luffy's time to shine.

RE: Chapter 1,046: Raizo

Non-canon, but Ann from Stampede has that fruit.
While not in canon, but there's a bunch that have some illusive effects. Copying appearances of other people (Bon-chan, Brulee, Catarina), molding appearances out of whatever (Mr 3, Kanjuro), and Kizaru has control over light so he should technically be able to make em.

Booted up the Chrono Cross remaster. First thing I get is this lovely new theme:
Game is as lovely as I remember it so far. The remaster visuals and framerate aren't anywhere near as bad as some people are making them out to be. Some of the backgrounds are smudgey and blah though. Woulda been nice to mix and match options. But overall the whole thing including the text and portraits look better in-game than in the screenshots. Still tempted to switch to classic mode for nostalgia purposes, it is my favorite game of all time.
Prolly gonna save Radical Dreamers til after I finish a playthrough.

The Hogwarts experience largely lends itself to a multiplayer experience, what with obvious character progression, a world to explore, and house factions and all that. Could even have quidditch built in and make seasons of content.
