      @wjbraden:

      Yeah, I actually had a discussion about that today and realized the timing was off there.

      –- Update From New Post Merge ---

      One thing I'm kind of curious about - the exact timeframe season 3 dubbing ended and Season 1 started. According to the post I linked on the previous page, up to episode 179 was apparently "completed well before it left CN", which would've been March of 2008. So, I guess it's possible all, or most of Skypeia (and presumably G8 up to episode 205) was mostly finished by that point, but then the very first Voyage also came in April 2008 (a month earlier before the street date courtesy of ritestuff), so that needed to have been started some months before that. I know dubbing out of order isn't uncommon per say, but was there a point where they were they actually recording both seasons simultaneously? It's no wonder Funi got their wires crossed so much with this stuff if that's the case.

      They were definitely recording OP in multiple booths at the time. I would assume they went back to doing Season 1 around that time, but I can't say that for sure.

      @wjbraden:

      Yep, but at least from Funimation's point of view, there was a glimmer of hope that they'd buy more episodes, as they kept rolling on ahead with editing things until episode 174. Digging through the threads, a person closely associated with the editing process by the name "Ummyeahokay", said that the edited versions of the episodes actually went through episode 179, but the last few were "not mixed" for broadcast (unfortunately, nobody here even believed them that when they said the Australian broadcast would likely switch over to the uncut version because the editing not being competed, until after the actual airing of episode 175 there).

      Strange times indeed, thankfully Cartoon Network Australia stepped up to give us what they had at the time (or else it would've been almost three full years until we finally saw the rest of Skypeia dubbed on the Voyages from where Toonami left off!)

      Oh and by the way Steve, I checked those other copies you gave me, with the exception of one rip that had a stray commercial bumper on it, all the other rips were identical to what I have, so we're good. You have my contact though if you need to reach me for anything or vice-versa. Once again, can't thank you enough for your help! 🙂

      I was delighted to help with your project! You probably have a few better quality rips than I do for earlier eps so I'm gonna take a look.

      I don't think even some of the actors were aware it aired in Austrailia. It's been so long, but I recall Tatum just taken aback some fans were familiar with his performance.

      @Snowmint:

      Everyone here agrees the edited dub originally got cancelled because of the CN regime change and the push to have no anime on the network… Is that correct?

      Definitely a regime change. Jason DeMarco and a lot of the original Toonami crew were taken off the block beforehand I believe. The Toonami block filled some slots with Bakugan and Ben 10 Alien Force and I don't think the block made it to the end of the year. Anime was phased out in favor of original animation, and the loathed CN Real shows.

      Hi there!

      A few weeks ago LSuperSonicQ's video about your search made its way into my feed and I was happy to find out it was talking about the forgotten CN broadcast version of Skypiea. As an avid supporter of this dub from the beginning I made sure to download the TV rips as they were posted on this very forum almost 15 years ago, even the Australian/New Zealand airings.

      I knew I had these stashed on a very old external drive, stored away somewhere in my parents' home. It was retrieved, and spent about a week shipping across the country, but as of now the drive is back in my possession, and while it doesn't seem like I have every episode on hand, I do have all the missing episodes you seek! I'm not sure how often you check this thread, but I'll try to DM you as well so I can get these in your hands.

      @ARC-1300:

      See, this is kind of where I hold issue with this. The VA isn't supposed to follow the lead of the Japanese seiyuu, he's supposed to shoot his own interpretation of the character, while still maintaining the dignity and integrity of the cataracter in the authors original work (Oda).

      Never said that sounding exactly like the seiyuu is the end of debate, but it's admirable when achieved. I think the English voice has a good take on the character.

      Joel's portrayal was a little off for me, but then again so was the seiyuu's when this originally aired. I watched it a couple of times, and like many other voices or dubbed songs from the past it began to sink in and I started to really like it.

      He's not that far off from the seiyuu. I'm really looking forward to hearing more from him!

      I'm disappointed it's going to be a long wait, but at least we're getting a double whammy. I'm sure it's also going to take a long while to complete the entire movie, not just simply voicing over mouth flaps. There isn't a season 7 on the way just yet, so it's a good thing this hasn't been a bi monthly release post season 5.

      I can understand the disappointment in the lack of movie commentary, but I can't say I was surprised to find out there wasn't one. Have there been any other FUNi feature length properties with a commentary track? Also, I don't think you should feel like we've been gipped in the extras department. We live in a crazy time where the voyage sets have not one but two commentary tracks, as well two cast interviews per set. Doing a movie commentary definitely takes up a lot of time in both recording and editing it for release. I don't mind that the valuable time be put towards future episodes.

      For those discussing the length of time between FUNi's announcements and releases, keep in mind that sometimes the series have already been worked on before they are announced, while others are a recent acquisition. I'm sure FUNi wants to beat the internet to the punch before the story leaks.

      My shipment of Voyage Four has also been confirmed. Woot!

      EDIT: I am going to guess it is episode 223 or 224 she is talking about, but I am just assuming that because they seem to be focused on Zoro.

      But that kinda would be weird as they were in the 210's in January, it seems as if they have gotten nowhere based on that.

      @worstje:

      I dunno. I must be the only one who feels the tune from that Gigant Battle 2 trailer comes nowhere close to the epicness of We Are! With voices singing to the melody, it may sound better, but all in all I'm getting a bad feeling from it. Sure, it has tons of motifs and recognizable sounds that I'd describe at One-Piecey in nature, but above and beyond it all I'd call those sounds a confused maelstrom of 'how many different instruments, sound effects and melodies can we squeeze into a short theme song'. It lacks cohesion. But, if anything, I feel it would have been a perfect fit for the One Piece 3D movie, which was 100% chaotic and free-spirited in nature.

      But as a replacement/follow-up for We Are? Nope. It does not come close.

      The animated stuff I saw in the vids looked pretty epic though. 🙂

      The instrumental for "We Are" is far from being "epic."

      It sounds great, but most important of all it's reminiscent of "We Are" and it oozes that One Piece feeling.

      Without a doubt the worst arc ever.Tiger died in a lame way, also.

      The arc is far from over, so don't be so quick to judge.

      And I don't understand why people think Tiger went out lame. Yeah he was jumped by Marines, but people seem to forget the fact that he walked away from it all. He was wounded, but refused to take a blood transfusion from a human. It was his own decision that killed him.

    • RE: Transformers 3

      The movie was just a hot mess. I'm surprised so many people have been saying that this was better than ROTF. I can say this much, if ROTF is a turd, than DOTM is a turd wrapped in tin foil to make it glisten just a tad.

      ! Once again the Transformers took a back seat to everything, but that's not surprising considering how damn expensive they must be to animated. Most of the focus is on the Sam and the other humans, but that's hard on the brain when every human is like a perverted schizophrenic.
      ! I thought Sentinel turning was just odd, as well as the whole backstory to it. It totally retcons all the plans that Megatron had in previous films. And it didn't make sense why Sentinel would team up with the Decepticons to rebuild Cybertron when the Decepticons are the ones destroying it in the first place.
      ! Speaking of Megs, it baffles me how for the second time he takes the backseat as a villain. I'm shocked that a friggin' Autobot is the main antagonist of the film. And Megatron seems more like a bitchy adolescent. The fact that a one-armed Optimus is able to kill him instantly is just laughable. What the hell happened to the Megatron in the first movie? The one that evoked fear upon all the Autobots, and handed Prime's ass to him? Come ROTF, Megs needs two other robots to help kill Prime, and in the newest film can't even pull an Obi Wan on Anakin Optimus.
      ! The visuals were certainly remarkable, but they just felt so uninteresting. I'm amazed I couldn't find myself interested in any of the final battle scenes. And it was downright silly to see Prime take down a robotic version of a tremor, but then gets tangled up in some cords. The Autobots get taken prisoner after a scene I guess they thought wasn't crucial to the film.
      ! The robot Doc Brown complete with hair (who unfortunately turned out to be Wheeljack, but for some reason was referred to as Que) is killed, but not before begging for his life. It really didn't make you morn the death of him, which reminds me that Ironhide also died. It's bad enough that I forgot he died, but it's worse that the characters in the actual movie forgot as well.
      ! I couldn't even get myself attached to the other new robots, because I don't even know their damn names. They can't even take a minute to introduce these new guys? I think they much rather prefer showing them in vehicle mode making sick turns in Libya. It's cheaper that way.
      ! Prime shooting Sentinel in the head was just downright disturbing. Why are the Autobots homicidal maniacs in these last two films? I realize keeping Sentinel alive wouldn't benefit anyone, but it just didn't seem like something Optimus Prime would do. And that's just embarrassing that characters from toy commercial cartoons are more honorable, or at least wiser.

      I have to say that this season was an utter disappointment, but I'm shocked by the emotions that this finale left me with. The fact that an episode of South Park can do that is simply stunning.

      First of all I enjoyed this episode because I feel that myself and the people I know all complain about everything new, and this was the perfect satire of that. Once again, Stan has a problem that needs to be fixed, and Randy is being stupid and adventurous once again. What shocked me was the swerve ending, where the problems were not resolved at all. Stan is being shunned by his friends, Kyle is becoming friends with Cartman, and Randy and Sharon are divorced. I truly felt this was the first tragic ending in South Park in sometime, and it's exactly what the show needed.

      I'm really hoping the next season in the fall picks up from this as a continuing storyline, instead of just returning to the formula of parodying current events and fads. If this were to be the last season, then it would be a hell of a way to go out. Unfortunately I don't have much faith in the writing, and I can only imagine it returning to the same formula. Here's hoping they turn the tables and do something new.
