Hello Everyone.. Just made this thread to let y'all know that I've decided to start writing my own blog. I talk incessantly and am a huge fan of Anime/Manga, Asian Cinema etc. so thought I'd express my thoughts and opinions via a blog. Reviews, ramblings. etc. but please feel free to contribute as you please. Always interesting to hear other people's opinions.

I just go my One Piece Collection 1, 2 days ago.. Brilliant Quality, It has dual audio which is good… Everything i would have wanted so in the respect i'm happy.. However I would have liked to have seen more from the extras.. we only get one commentary.... I would have liked have seen more. such as a commentary per disc, interviews with both english and japanese cast ( if possible) , behind the scenes, how they storyboard episodes etc..
I've tweeted my thoughts to FUNimation but obviously i'm only one person, if you agree with me email tweet FUNi with your suggestions, we should get our voices heard..

I pre-ordered One Piece Collection 1 a few weeks ago. I'll be happy to give my opinions on it when I get it. I'm just glad from what I hear that the DVD's have dual audio I would like the option of watching in Japanese. In fact I'd much prefer watching it in Japanese… not that there is anything wrong with FUNi dub on the contrary they have done a wonderful job, but after see nearly 600 episode of one piece in Japanese I really become accustomed to their voices.
Finally we have a name for these birdmen… the Nitro.. I like it..
This manga is getting better and better.. can't wait to see how this whole situation develop
he's so bad at drawing girls that I really don't mind the lack of them
what about warden love? she looks pretty well drawn to me.. lol
I like the anime. I know that some scenes are edited out and censored as well, but you have to see it from a anime-only watchers perspective (which I am not [oviously]). I will admit though that it does get annoying and tedious with certain scenes.
believe me! if you saw the anime from a manga readers perspective you wouldn't like this anime as much! the manga is far superior, If they had followed the manga to the letter I wouldn't have any complaints!
check out the Toriko OVA.. Its a carbon copy of the first episode except it follows the manga more closely… There is a huge difference!!! Toriko as a character is awesome and badass on a whole other level.. The OVA is darker.. its just how I imagined the Toriko anime to be
I've just seen the 7th episode of the Toriko anime.. I'm really starting to lose hope in this series… they don't entirely deviate from the manga.. but they kinda do in the wrong places!!! and it annoy me to no end!!! I kinda feel like they are doing mansam's character justice.. in the manga although mansam got beat up,to me it looked like shimabukuro alluded to him being stronger when he was about to use his intimidation on the gt robo.. that is before he noticed that toriko was getting angry.... in the manga we saw mansam being introduced by doing press ups whilst ritchie (his huge pet animal was) on his back.. when he met with toriko and komatsu he used his frying punch to scare the muscule crab... toei have everything in reverse
Wow, a surprising amount of thought went into these filler episodes.
Indeed, it seems they have put a lot of thought into these fillers, I'm actually enjoying them ( I don't usually enjoy watching fillers)
did anyone else spot the HunterxHunter reference.. Sabo was using a fishing rod to fight the Tiger, A Fishing rod was Gon Freecss weapon of choice before he became a nen user. Junko Takeuchi voices sabo and gon freecss ( I think I put way too much thought into this.. lol)
Remember when AMV used to be 9/10 mins long.. its seems amv's these days just keep getting shorter and shorter these days.. this is one of the first amv a saw a few years back (2008. i think) I absolutely loved it.. the music goes perfectly with the fights and it was and introduction for me to the anime that you see in this amv#

Indeed I read somewhere a while ago about Toei charging a lot of money to licence one piece, it was somewhere around the region of £250,000 for 50 episodes, which is an insane amount of money to spend on something which will definitely not make a return!
I agree with piratebeck I'm up for starting a campaign to at least acquire the One Piece movies licences. This seems as best a forum as ever to find as many British one piece fan who I'm sure will want the same thing
this is why we as a fanbase in the west are boned.
that mentality is killing the industry and it has to stop.

there is no way funi can afford to release the entire first season in one big set.One piece is such an expensive series to license and they have to make a profit somewhere.I agree the price is great,but people who have put off buying the voyages for so long are the sole reason for the new 26 episode box sets.This is the best you will get for your money ever i beleive.I can't see them selling them any cheaper than this otherwise they would make a huge loss.I agree both dubs are great but if you want the series to continue you realy should try and buy the box sets.The proceeds will eventualy go towards licensing fees for future episodes.
I've bookmarked the Amazon page for the One Piece Boxset.. you should be a spokesperson for FUNimation you're quite persuasive.. lol
I think its unfair to compare One Piece to Fairy Tail, granted its obvious to see that Mashima has drawn inspiration from One Piece, but generally the story arcs are dissimilar likewise the character. It is an inferior manga to One Piece but what manga isn't, that doesn't necessarily make it a bad manga. Infact as a fan of the shonen genre of manga I like this manga. Now the nitpicker will obviously draw attention to areas such as the ecchi content etc. I'm not a fan of ecchi myself but its not unbearable and it certainly doesn't detract from the story (this is just my own opinion). Another problem people have with this manga is that its too short, Well of course its short is you compare in One Piece, However the story arcs do tend to go quickly, again this is all down to preference, there will be people who are annoyed with the general pace of story arcs. personally I enjoy them.. However like I say overall One Piece is a Far Far superior anime/manga.. but Fairy Tail isn't a bad anime/manga series

do they have both Japanese as well as English dubs? cos I've grown accustomed to the Japanese.. although the English dub is great too..
I have a query, I don't know if this was discussed or not.. it most likely has.. but have FUNimation made boxsets for One Piece yet? Can you buy the whole of season 1 as a boxset? Cos if not, FUNimation are missing a trick.. there are alot of dedicated One Piece Fans who need to save money cos this is a large series after all.. and i'm one of those fans who needs to save.. lol..
If its the first two episodes that are bugging you there filler(and not very good filler as far as gintama filler goes) i'd suggest just sticking with it for a while since a lot of people tend to think the anime is better than the manga(me included).
I agree with madman.. (lol. i can't believe i'm agreeing with a madman) but the first 2 episodes are filler, but they are completely out of context with the rest of the anime series… its starts getting funnier after on episode 3.. infact I think episode 3 starts at the beginning of the manga, although I'm not entirely sure cos I don't read the manga, although I probably should

Gildartz is such a Badass!!! I want one of either 2 things from the next chapter.. either we get a proper fight between Gildartz and Bluenote.. or Gildartz just whoops bluenotes ass
One thing I was kinda dissapointed with, was the way we found out about Cana being Gildartz' daughter, this is where I think that Fairy Tail lacks in the story department, something like this brushed over it too quickly in my opinion, If it was drawn out in depth about Cana being Gildartz daughter, It would have invoked a more emotional response from me, but thats not to say it was a completely bad thing.. its just that it could have been handled better.

In the manga, I remember Toriko laughing off the fact that he forgot to mention to Komatsu just how loud those crackers are. I mean, WTF? Komatsu could've died for real and he's just laughing it off? The fact that Toriko gave Komatsu earplugs in the anime show that he's a good planner in addition to being a wild eater. That's a good touch that Toei brought to it.
However, the episode rushed way too much. You can tell that Toei just wanted to be done and over with for this arc so that they can get to the real meat (no pun intended) of the series.
I'm sorry I'm gonna have to completely disagree with you there!!!! I don't usually disregard peoples views, but in this instance, the fact that you said that it was a good move by Toei is Complete load of Rubbish, In the first few chapter it felt to me that Toriko didn't really care for Komastu as much as he does now! we hear Toriko constantly mentioning that Komatsu is willing to put his life on the line when going on these journeys and that he's written a will etc. I personally believe that Shimabukuro didn't want to give the impression that Toriko was this big protector, therefore he intentionally made Toriko careless! because he wanted to Toriko to have flaws however small they may be so he could learn from them in the future, In fact this is brought up when Toriko is training to enter the gourmet world, as he and komatsu become better friends and in tern become partners he realises he has to be more careful in his action, this can be seen when he goes looking for melk.
I just saw the Toriko OVA!! OMG!!! It was friggin awesome!! That was exactly how I envisaged Toriko to be, he was so badass it was unbelievable, Also Tom was black and had lines, there was blood there was gore, the animated fight with the garara croc was perfect.. This is how Toei Should have made Toriko!!!! The vibe was slightly dark, but i don't think Toriko was for kid, and if the anime was made like OVA then the anime would have been so much better, my favourite arc to date was the Ice Hell arc.. the fights in that arc were really good, it had good intensity etc. I don't want Toei to ruin…

Indeed it seems that Viz discontinued the colour walk, which is a real shame, I have colour walk 1, and a Japanese version of colour walk 4… if anyone knows where i could get 2 and 3 it would be much appreciated
Because it's still a cartoon? It's just not hand-drawn. I mean c'mon the human characters in Pixar look almost like pieces of rubber.

Thing is, the CG looks fine, that's what I mean when I say the expectations for CG are just too high. I mean what should "One Piece" CGI look like. In fact Toei Animation may have made the CG less detailed on purpose to give it a more cartoony feel.

As far as CGI goes, Some people Will like it... Others Will hate it... We just gotta accept that.... At the end of the day, One Piece is One Piece... so every One Piece fan will enjoy it regardless.. However those who do hate the CGI it will detract from the viewing pleasure slightly < That's all I'm sayin

Again, what's inherently wrong with "One Piece" CG? It's just the same characters and setting in a different format. What's wrong with lower-budget CG? If they shouldn't make lower-budget CG dawood Toei Animation shouldn't even make 2D animation, because there's is lower budget than Disney. Why should each movie following "Strong World" be at that same level? Who's to say Toei Animation didn't put any care and attention into this film with the time they had between "Strong World" and now?
(and by the way "Strong World" wasn't that great).
lets not beat around the bush here firecrouch, aesthetics is EVERYTHING.. you might say that One Piece is more about the story and this is absolutely true but the crux of the matter is the story is told through the animation… if the animation is shoddy.. then it detracts from the story to some extent... I know that Toei animation have far less money that Disney/Pixar... but Toei have been doing Cel animation for a very long time and have developed quite a knack for it.. lol.. this is their first out into the CGI world.. Now story aside (cos I know you love to go on about the story)
was it a success or not? well... actually the question should be was it to a good standard or not? that depends on what we consider to be a good standard.. Perhaps companies like Pixar have set the benchmark in terms of quality.
But like you say, whether the CGI looks good or not it isn't everything.. And the story really does matter...
However Purely as a Huge Fan of One Piece I would have expected Toei to have gone all out... I know it sounds selfish.. but dammit I don't care.. lol
firecrouch, hudemx, you both make valid points.. One Piece Strong World was incredibly successful, it was a record breaker in the Japanese box-office.. It was brilliantly marketed.. one piece fans were hyped when that movie came out.. I know I was..
and I can understand Toei wanting to try something and experimenting alittle.. however it doesn't seem to me like Toei didn't put as much care and attention in this movie as they did with One Piece Strong World.. this can be seen in the timescale it took to make and release this movie off the back of the previous movie
And yes I understand that Toei don't have the money to make CGI like Pixar, but if thats the case, don't make a CGI movie! I would have been happy with just a plain old cel animated movie

I saw the trailer to it a while back... errrm.. the CGI animation looks bad
but the One Piece part of the Movie is only 30 minutes long.. I think the Toriko one is abit longer with 40 mins.. basically just 2 anime episodes.. why it got a theatrical release is beyond me?
How bout Vic Mignogna for Coco.. I think his voice is too high to play Toriko

Just the read current chapter.. I've been reading in bulk trying to catch up!
I originally though toei animation would do a great job of this animation, but these 4/5 episodes haven't lived up to my expectations at all… if they had just followed the manga to the letter, it would have been so much better, I don't know whose to blame here Shimabukuro or Toei... I know the mangaka have alot of input on the animation, he just have just told them to F*** Off
However, I am really looking forward to the Ice Hell arc being animated, that arc was awesome.. I just hope they don't censor it too much
hmm.. these bird men are very interesting .. its seems as though they get stronger the more they eat which could indicate they have gourmet cells.. like a lot of you have mention this one seems to be a weaker version, which still seems to be incredibly strong.. it should be a good match?
Do you think they will end up getting the cola? I hope so... but you just never know good manga keep you guessing.. i haven't been this intrigued in a manga since one piece.. although tbh my preference is shonen manga.. lol
I disagree with kaizokuo12.. I really enjoyed the end themes after an action packed thrill ride of an episode it was nice to get a smooth calming song you could relax to..
We should make a petition or something to bring back the one piece endings.. lol
Personally I think you're either gonna be a One Piece fan from episode 1 or you aint gonna be a One Piece fan.. there are loads of things that turn people off.. the concept, the art style, the length of the series.. I say let the nit pickers pick their nits.. At the end of the day its their loss
However if you wanna show some how good one piece is.. I would pick the one with the best actions/Fight scenes… best arc for that is Water7/Enis Lobby arc
Also Funny eps are good..
You could combine the 2 and get a Funny Action Fight Scene, Like this...

I differs from story arc to story arc. i think the for the most part the pacing has been really good, particularly for the Water7/Enis Lobby Arc (Still my fav arc to date).. However its not to say that the pacing is perfect. I, like alot of people watched the One Piece in Bulk a few years back and really enjoyed the Alabasta arc, however after going back and rewatching it, the fillers can be pretty annoying.. and although there weren't any fillers episodes in the impel down/Marineford arcs pacing of that show was excruciatingly slow
but apart from those 2, I don't think its been that bad..
I wasn't entirely sure i'd like it at first… but its certainly grown on me.. now i absolutely love it
lol… reading this thread i see there is a consensus that zoro's back story has suffered somewhat and I would definately have to agree with you
can i start by saying that zoro is my favourite character, but that aside...
his story seemed too simple it lacked the development that other characters got... i mean all of the character's backstories in one way or another seem to tug on the heart strings.... but with zoro's character i never really saw his friendship with kuina bloom so i never really cared when she died.. and as a result i never really cared about zoro achieving his goal in order to appease kuina's death
what did make me care about zoro achieving his goal to become the world greatest swordsman was his rivalry with mihawk
however having said.... i believe that oda may intentionally refrained from showing too much of zoro's past.. perhaps it may come to the forefront more the next time zoro battles tashigi ( however i could be wrong.. lol)
Oh, so, pell not dying from a bomb that would have incinerated an entire town seems completely reasonable simply because 'this is a fantasy.' I suppose if in the next chapter it just so happened that Luffy and all of the other strawhats die, and that's the end of the story, it would make complete sense because after all this is just a fantasy, so who cares if it's reasonable or not.
lol… you misinterpreted my statement, although to be fair as was quite vague.. this is indeed a fantasy and whether something is reasonable or not is completely subjective especially if the writer leave it to our imagination.... cos afterall he didn't show us how he avoided such a catastrophe
but what i was refering to by using your imagination is the way in which he escaped... i'm sure escaping a bomb which like you mention can incinerate an entire town must have been quite a feat... but probably not impossible not for a massive falcon anyway.. i mean afterall we don't know how fast Pell could fly or manoeuvre... or indeed what other forms pell has he could take... he could have launched the bomb elsewhere ( and by elsewhere i mean further above him, not in a different direction )
and afterall it not like he got away unscathed... he was severely injured

I wasn't particularly annoyed that ARLONG didn't die, but in the long run, I did get extremely tired of the fact that NOONE does. Seriously, Pell, Pagaya and the Franky Family should have STAYED dead, and we never even got a decent explaination for why they survived being blown up, electrified or shot with a shower of canonballs.
And I felt that the conclusion to the Thriller Bark-saga was anticlimactic. "Hey, I know I was ordered to kill EVERYONE, but because I'm such a nice guy, I'll just injure Zoro and then leave. Bye."

Bartholomew Kuma wasn't evil at the time but he was still working for the government so he gave the strawhat pirates an ultimatum that if he killed their captain they could go free.... now obviously luffy was unconcious from quite an epic battle with both oz and moria.... so the choice was left in the hands of the remaining crew member... zoro made the choice to get killed... HOWEVER!! kuma being a goody... decided to show mercy on zoro... and zoro even admitted that... lol
oh and in regards to Pell... we never actually saw him get blown up... all we saw was a massive explosion... granted with the amount of time remaining it would have been near impossible to escape the bombs impact... but then again this is a genre based on fantasy... i'm sure we can use our imaginations

Has the manga actually said that Luffy's been blamed for Moria's death, or is that still speculation? Cause, i think that's a rather far fetched conclusion.

To convince you more : Luffy bounty was put I guess BB threat is already shown to the World eyes throught newspaper, The war diffiusion on Shabondy adn the recents events (become Shichibukai after capturing ace, caused a War with WB, Turning down on the Marines)….......unlike luffy whose Actions were all covered up like Defeating Crocodile and Moria, And the ID incident, also his actions on the Marinford Battle weren't difused like : The king Haki Burst, Fighting all 3 admirals, sent Granpa flying with a punch, Managed to get Ace Back, and then again BEing protected by The WB pirates and their allies.
LOL.. you're making it seem as though luffy is stronger than he actually is…. he didnt defeat the three admirals.... didnt even get close to beating one of them.... his haki blast only made the weak go into a coma the strong werent affected... and his grandad didnt want to fight back if he did he would have whooped luffy's ass.. oh and not to mention that he didnt successfully save his brother... cos as you already now he dead... being under the protection of the whitebeard pirates is of no importance to the marines
the government thought nothing of luffy other than the fact that he was a bit of an nuisance... all of the marines see it that way except akainu who wants to kill him for the mere fact that he's the son of dragon
However i am curious as to why the marines did kill off moria... perhaps as an excuse to raise luffys bounty although right i think its high enough... perhaps to raise blackbeards bounty as he has now bounty on his head that we know of
personally i'm not too sure either way tbh… but i have a lingering feeling that there won't be a time skip...
One piece has been written and drawn so well over the years in such detail we've grown with the characters.. we've seen their pasts.. we've seen them get stronger.. and they get stronger from their battles both as a group and individuals... it would be a shame to see them skip what would be a pivotal time in their lifes... particularly for luffy... (and zoro cos that mystery island he's on seem pretty kool)
and going by the current manga in luffys current state he wants to be with his nakama asap... and i'm sure the rest of the crew feel the same
and also i'd like to see them sail to the new world whilst they're young
however if luffy does reach shabondy archipeligo and the crew arent there yet and indeed there is a time skip as you all predicted... then i could see reyleigh training luffy.. lol

There have been many rumors that Naruto or Bleach is going to be canned or finished by the end of the year. What other series could you see taking its place and do you think this would increase One Piece popularity outside of Japan.
