Naruto became awefull when it stopped to be about ninjas rather then people constantly transforming into monsters fighting other people with Hax Eyes.
Well Bleach… I hope it gets canceled Kubo doesnt seem to be able to get backs to the heights of the soul society arc and there are many new series in jump that deserve to continue in place of it.

RE: Nitro+: Steins;Gate
I haven't read Twilight. But Akashic Records of hate have already been written about it online, so there's little left for me to contribute.
The last few years in anime have not been very good, yes. I feel it's been pretty down-hill since 2006, when we had stuff like FSN, Haruhi, Geass, Higurashi, Ray Romano, Seto no Hanayome, and a bunch of other great shows. 2007 was good but not as great, but every other year since has been pretty middling. The only "really" good shows this year have been Madoka and Kaiji.
Well I guess I can see I eye to eye with your point then, It's probably pretty much the same situation with me and the Modern Warfare Franchise (which I think are good games but don't nearly earn the hype they do and also bury jewels like Heavy Rain etc)
so I can relate to your resentment of the series if it's hype is as nearly as bad.but more importantly there is a season 2 of Kaiji? Man… how did miss that. Well I hope it's at least finished so no episode waiting for me,

RE: Nitro+: Steins;Gate
If you read the other posts, you will see very intelligent and insightful criticism of the show. Steins isn't much more than Baka + Test dressed in a lab coat. 5pb. is backing this project, and if it is successful, we'll be treated to more of the same garbage in a year's time.
Robotics;Notes is going to be thoroughly retarded, mark my words.
I now read all of those post, but still the majority of yours consist of very weird hating rather than good criticism?
Now I don't know anything of MuvLuv and it totally might be a thousand times better than steins;gate but tell you what I think the Twilight series is absolute garbage and there are a thousand books that are better out there and still don't go hating like you do with this series.
Now what I take issue with is that your argument is so heavily influenced by your taste it's hard to qualify them as insightful regarding the series rather than your disposition to this series. Now if I'm not mistaken Baka + Test is one of these weird moe animes? Now personally I can't stand these because they seem so pointless to me and are only made to fullfill feelings?(in lack of a better term) that are quite foreign to me.
Now putting Steins;Gate on the same level seems quite overboard to me since this series at least lets me think about the meaning of sacrifices and the way one can justify them. (which is like way more than any moe anime does)Now again clarifying I don't believe that Steins;Gate is anything particular special, but it's certainly better than a great deal of things that have come out these past 3-4 years.
In my opinion it earns a watchable certificate and for me there only have been 3 additional series that got it this year (AnoHana, Usagi Drop and Mawaru Penguindrum)
Admittingly I'll only watch Penguindrum because it's so weird that it keeps me curious for it, so that one might also change completely. That said I'm currently at episode 20 and the only thing that irks me really badly is how Okabe knows that he has to take the happiness of thos around him in order to save mayuri, but there hasn't been anything indicating that he actually deals with this knowledge. It makes his situation very unrelatable since he is kind of supposed to be a sensitive person? But well the series is not over yet. I may have to change my opinion after finishing it.

RE: Last Two Nakamates (vol. 5)
its not sarcastic. i imagine some huge battle after raftel to fight this giant build up of the void history and the nobles. and what is directly AFTER raftel? the twin capes again and thus Laboon can meet up with brook and join the fight
I see sorry then for being oversensitive about it. Well I didn't consider that there might be bigger events after raftel. I always Imagined that the big fight will happen before it, since it seems to be in the interest of the World Government that no one reaches raftel to find One Piece, but yeah having the finale after raftel certainly makes sense if Oda abides to the optimal pacing curve.

RE: General Persona Thread
Do you guys wish for a return of the calendar system in Persona 5? I personally think it's outdated. I didn't mind it at first but now being in my fourth playthrough the dayswitch animation becomes annoying. A tweak so you could skip it might be enough? Also don't get me wrong I don't have a problem with the calendersystem itself since I think it's amazing in giving a sense of progression just think how it happens can become annoying.
-
RE: Last Two Nakamates (vol. 5)
yep, since we aren't going to BACKTRACK, that means after we reach raftel we then meet up with Laboon
then laboon, sureme and who knows who else will accompany us to the big battle.
If that's supposed to be sarcastic… If such a battle will occur there will be means and with it I mean plot devices that would justify a reappearance of anyone useful. I certainly think that Krakens would be useful in a battle. As for Laboon his location and symbolic meaning to brook will mostly deny any kind of reunion outside of the twincapes.

RE: Nitro+: Steins;Gate
Just read the first post, kind of hard to relate the hate it gets.
So I don't know the VN just judging from the anime. It's hard to get into since you kind of have to have an overview of everything that happened(causes and effects) but that's kind of a standart for time travel stories.
It's by know means a masterwork or anything but I think it's enjoyable, it's a very japanese story with all its quirkyness that tends to dab into the darker tones (which has been pretty rare or so was my impression of the animes these last years), which might be the cause of the hype? -
RE: Anime Series that need to be Redone or Continued
History strongest disciple a hundred times! I don't think it has to be explained
-
RE: Last Two Nakamates (vol. 5)
Well I personally doubt that Surume becomes a nakama in the sense that Zoro, Nami etc etc are.
But he certainly is an ally. Which could present a chance that he and his brothers at the north pole become allies for luffy supporting him in a whitebeard vs marines style combat. Imagine 3 to 5 Krakens taking out Warships of the marines. -
RE: Strawhat Crew Theories and Prediction Thread
Though not stated outright, chances are her oven/microwave(?) and light source above are dials.
http://read.mangashare.com/One-Piece/chapter-608/page011.html http://read.mangashare.com/One-Piece/chapter-608/page012.html
If that's the case I rather assume that these are special shells more akin to the bubblecorals that only exist in Fishman island.
The reasoning behind this, is that dials have to be displayed as something extremely rare in the blue sea.
If they exist on Fishman Island I would think that they would be a little more common, especially as weaponry for the marines (since they seem to have infinite ressources if it comes to things like these, like Seastone, the Pacifista etc etc). But for certain confirmation we'll have to wait for a SBS.

RE: Tokyo Game Show 2011
I crave for some Persona 5 news although it's pretty unlikely, I would be pretty content if they released some artwork of it :/
-
RE: Strawhat Crew Theories and Prediction Thread
None of that is the point, all I am saying is that Dials in the ocean exist.
Can you post the source of this? I must have missed it. Although it kind of seems like a trademark of dials to exist in extreme places.

RE: One Piece Chapter 638 "Runawayhoshi" Discussion
Sorry folks but thats just the way I see it
Well nothing that can be said about your post, its your opinion there is practically nothing left that anyone can add to that than anything that would amount to more than "Your opinion sucks and you are wrong, mine is the right opinion" or "I totally agree".
It seems you know that since your very defensive and apologetic in your post.
Your post makes it also seem unlikely that you would reconsider your position. All in all in makes me wonder what purpose this post has?
Still I'll bite once and try to debate why I think your opinion is nonesensical.
So first and foremost I really don't understand why you're taking an issue with Luffy receiving help, it's a central theme in this manga which repeats itself arc over arc. Luffy always receives outside help and in my eyes it never tarnished his own moments of glory. Sanjis words on Enels Lobby sums it up pretty well "Everyone has something he can and cannot do" or even before that Luffy lamenting during the Arlong Arc how he would be useless alone.
Mihawk commenting on how Luffys greatest power is making allies, and Luffy confessing during his flashback how he can't stand being alone.Exactly that theme how we can't be alone, how important bonds of friendship are and how the strength of teamwork can overcome any hardships, is something what I believe made many fall in love with this series. So with it being so central its weird to be so vocal about it in this arc? But you know since I'm new I don't know if you also complained about how pell flew luffy to his fight with crocodile or how Water7 helped him get to Enies Lobby. Maybe you like One Piece for an entirely different reason. So if that's the case ok can't argue that, right?
Now about the princess going up, I don't understand what was so silly about it?
It was explained that the ship is in danger of getting damaged being nearly at the sea floor. That's the reason why she heads up. If you mean the scene where she throws herself before the ship, there are several logical reason for it.
1. She is not a reader, like us so she might not have the same understanding of VDDs powers like we do.
2. She is naive and idealistic, maybe she seriously thought her trying pleading with VDD would amount to anything.
3. not a reason but something to consider, her action probably just took very few seconds and I don't know if imminent danger would face my country that I would run away instead of trying to face it.Last but not least your argument about how Shanks doesnt need rescuing is really…. yeah I want to put it discrete it's not very thought out.
Because Shanks is someone at the height of his power. He is at the peak of his journey someone who has probably accomplished almost everything that he aimed for. We don't know if he didn't need the same rescueing when he was still on rogers ship, or what happened in the first few adventures of the red hairs.
Luffy is for all intended purposes still in his journey of growing to be pirate king, he is incomplete which makes it so fun to watch him progress.
And what people seem to misunderstand what Aces dead did to him is not giving him the drive to get the power of allmighty pwnage but rather makes him understand the difference between him and the world and what he lacks.
Having understood that Luffy didn't train to be stronger the 3 Admirals or the Yonkous but rather to regain his confidence in his own strength to protect his friends.phew...
At the end I have to add that I kind of agree that this arc feels very slow and kind of draggy and for now it doesn't feel like a very good arc. But tell you what I thought the same thing about Skypea and the Foxy arc when I read them weekly.
But now in retrospective being able to read them in one go I think Skypea is a fantastic arc that lets you feel that spirit of adventure, whereas the Foxy arc was just pure silly fun and also told us that fights are not all about power but sometimes also about circumstances. -
RE: Last Two Nakamates (vol. 5)
A random strong fishman we haven't seen yet who knows fishman karate will make better sense than Jinbei who is too well known and will probably be doing other things at Fishman Island or the New World.
It does not… I would severely disrupt the current story pacing. My feeling still tells me that no one will join this arc but seriously every reasoning against jimbei has been extremely aweful. The only valid reason that remains which hinders his joining is that he doesn't have a dream yet, although it is kind of implied what i could be.
That said, this is all assuming that this will be a typical 1 storyline on 1 island arc.
If Oda decides to tell 2 storylines on Fishman Island (for example one dealing with caribou) things might be different. But the chances of that are in my opinion very slim since it would be a break in style. -
RE: One Piece Chapter 638 "Runawayhoshi" Discussion
Jimbei didn't strangle an enemy in this chapter!
-
RE: Chapter 637: "The Ancient Ark"- Discussion
Certainly good arguments which kind of eliminates one reason why the dojo could be interesting to us. Which is FK.
But is that all that the Dojo could offer us? I don't think so. If god forbid Jimbei really joins. The dojo could actually be a good keypoint cementing his joining.
It could introduce to us a mentor figure of Jimbei(or memory of one) which is something typical for a strawhat (ok except brook, kind of). Help introducing us a dream of Jimbei. Also maybe show us a few more fighters of FK. An argument of why Jimbei can't join was that he doesn't have a lot of room to grow. Now introducing to us a character that represents the absolute ceiling of FK might counter that. I don't know there might be more possibilities that the introduction of the dojo could deliver. I just don't believe that the dojo doesn't have any potential to be relevant in some way.But again like I stated I know that it currently has no room for introduction.
Edit: Scratch the mentor figure thing since I forgot about Fisher Tiger… the rest still stands for discussion

RE: General 'Haki' Discussion
Well, I'm sorry if you don't like it, but you're letting that fact blind you. Other than Luffy's confused and totally clueless line on the matter, there's no reason to assume that imbuing something with haki simply makes it harder. Arrows have arrowheads anyways.
Besides, Luffy used armor haki during Sabaody part 2 and there was absolutely no sign of his arm turning black anywhere. And we got a closeup of it before he attacked. The black, and the attack name (which included the word for armor haki, along with a subset of it specific to his application) came later. If it's just what happened when he used armor haki, there'd be absolutely no reason to have such a long and specific name for the technique.
Actually, did Luffys arm turn black when he one shot the pacifista? If not that would be one more indication that there is a distinction between imbueing and wearing armor haki. If there is, busoushoku could be a lot more diverse than initially believed.

RE: Chapter 637: "The Ancient Ark"- Discussion
does that karate dojo even matter
i mean in that same panal they also mentioned the mermaid cafe and papagg lied about knowing the princess, when why would he even bring her up when it seems NO one could have seen her in 10 years
but look the mermaid cafe was mentioned and look how IMPORTANT that was to teh story. it had zero to do with it. we like stopped outside of it and then saw arlongs sister in the back, whom could have been shown in any other store or randomly on teh street or hell even have a fortune predicting shop of some sorts.
It's not about importance to the current story. It's about looking at One Piece from a metaperspective. Do I as a reader want to get a look at the Dojo?Personally, absolutely. I mean it's the place where Fishman Karate stems from. Personally I find FK to be quite interesting. So considering that the question that has to be asked is "Does Oda think that his readers want to see the dojo?". If Oda believes that we want to see it chances are he'll probably introduce it.
Also the mermaid cafe was certainly important to the story if you look at it what functions it did fulfull. It made it possible for the Strawhats to meet Madam Shirley and it was a keypoint for introducing to us what defines fishman island. Things like these create the atmosphere which I regard as very important to the story.
Of course Madam Shirley could have introduced to the Strawhats on the streets of fishman island shops. But would it have had the same impact?
Half the things we know about shirley stem from the place she was introduced from. Mermaid cafe is a popular place on fishman island, it tells us that Shirley has also influence on Fishman island beyond being a believable fortuneteller. It's the small things that make the big things awesome. It's what sets OnePiece apart from Bleach where every place is white nothingness. Soul Society? The Living Realm? The place where Hollow live which name I forgot? all the same white so whatever.
But yeah at the same time I kind of agree that its very unlikely at this point that we get a look at it since were well over the phase where fishman island gets defined for us.
Still like I said I wonder if it would be introduced will it tie to the next story arc(which may be about caribou)? Will it be a after thing?
Although we never had 2 story arcs in the same place doesn't mean it won't happen and if it happens Fishman Island certainly has in my opinion enough places left that might be interesting to explore.
Also the possibility exist that the Dojo may be introduced during a cover story. -
RE: General 'Haki' Discussion
The AL warriors imbue Haki into their arrows to make them stronger by a "hardening" principle (Luffy: "Are those arrows made out of steel!?"). Luffy imbues Haki into his body to make it stronger by a hardening principle. Is there any particular reason these need to be two different things, rather than the same technique simply working that way on rubber? I've said it before, but to me it would feel redundant and a bit unnecessary if Luffy has two techniques that just do the same thing i.e. "physical attack up", but we can only ever tell when one is being used and not the other. Wouldn't it make more sense for it to simply be one technique, and Oda has the easy visual cue of his limbs turning black when he uses it? There has been so much confusion as to whether Luffy really used Haki or not and it'd be real nice to have a clear-cut cue to let us know. And I also think it would feel really excessive for Luffy to have not one (snapback), not two (G2), not three (Haki) but FOUR (hardening) power-ups to his attacks. Enough already, damn it.
dont get me wrong what luffy does and what the kuja do to their arrows is what i believe is the same thing.
I made the distinction between what luffy does and what rayleigh did when he flicked luffys forehead. Which I believe is the way mariegold and sentoumaru specifically have used their haki. -
RE: Chapter 637: "The Ancient Ark"- Discussion
I really wonder if and more importantly how the karate dojo will be introduced as things are now, there is no room for it.
Maybe it will be tied to caribous story line if that guy doesn't mix things up in the current affairs. -
RE: General 'Haki' Discussion
I'm not totally sure about that translation, tbh. However, we've seen people imbue themselves with armor haki plain as day, such as Rayleigh (against Kizaru) and Boa Mariegold.
Sengoku actually turned gold, but in a black and white manga it looked black. And that's just how his fruit works.
well that's the question if they are imbueing themselves, i always had the impression that mariegold wore her haki as armor hence repelling luffy.
I'm not sure about rayleigh though if he kicked away kizaru foot or parried it.
Of course "does it make a difference?" is another question alltogether.I currently believe it does. If Shanks had imbued his sword if probably would have melted, so I'm going by the assumption that he wore his haki over his sword like an armor to fend of akainus magma.
But yeah we still lack a lot of informations about the workings of haki.
-
RE: Last Two Nakamates (vol. 5)
dodging our arguments? sir fine but don't expect that people will continue to reply to yours. You are still founding the major part of your argument on the assumption that jimbei has traveled all routes to some extent that lead away from the red line. I'm sure Jimbei has traveled his fair share but i really doubt it that if he joins that he would know more about the new world than robin about the grand line.
And don't even try to counter with something silly as jimbei fanboy since I'm in the camp that believes know one will join this arc. But I am smart enough to know that if someone joins it will definitely be jimbei.
-
RE: General 'Haki' Discussion
Margaret pretty much told us straight up that anything can be imbued with haki. But there's really not visual representation of such a thing. What Luffy does isn't so simple.
Luffy turning himself black is a technique he made up that utilizes haki as a power source, and that comes from the fight with Surume (chapter 605). It's not just haki, itself. As far as I can tell, it's a technique that's specific to rubber, though that can't be absolutely proven. It could also be a technique that's usable on other things, but turning black is simply the result of applying it to rubber, while applying it to normal human flesh may do something else.
Ah I see it seemed I had a incorrect translation because i remember that it statet that only objects can be imbued. There was one instance where Sengoku was all black when he turned into a buddha, although that was probably only shading, still throwing it in here maybe its food for some thought
-
RE: General 'Haki' Discussion
I'm very amused from the vulcanisation discussion that takes place in the chapter discussion.
But I'm rather interested if there is a general consesus that
A. Luffy imbues himself with Haki rather than "wearing it as armor"
and B. He is only able to do so because his body is essentially rubber and thus in some way an object that can be imbued. -
RE: Last Two Nakamates (vol. 5)
its that very reason that i don't want him too join
he has too many allies/aqcuantancies/friends/enemies/ect already for himself.
so far in teh story the strawhats have been new to everyone. they go into places with only what they have made for themselves. there is no, omg zoro has relatives on this island, or he saved this island before. zoro is a reputation alone to them all. they only know what they have read about or in case of fishman island what others who came here like camie or hatchi told them.
if someone like jimbei joins, then he may know half the new world islands. he may be friends with kaidou, he may ect. ect. ect. I don't like the idea of a relationship being formed already due to jimbei joining.
i like what luffy said this arc "friends or foes you decide"
if someone like jimbei joins, that friends or foes is already decided by his past relationships. jimbei is similar enough to the rest of the strawhats that any friends or foes he has, are most likely the same result that we would end up with them as well, but i want the strawhats to make that relationship, not it be a pre-existing one cause jimbei
I see where you're coming from, but this argument relies heavily on something that we don't know for sure. That is jimbei has many relation to many islands.
Also it's not like there was no precedent for the Strawhats to have relations that they haven't built during their adventure.
Like Luffy and Rayleigh, which their connection stemmed from hatchan and shanks. Or Luffy and Kuma/Iva, where the connection stems from his dad.
Also not quite the same Robins enemy connection carried over to the crew. There are a few more if you have to know I'll list them but it should be enough to dent your argument. :P -
RE: Theories That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread v.2
The next time that Devil Fruit Weapons will make and appearance it will be in a noncomedic manner. We may even meet a wielder of such a weapon that will pose a threat to the Monster Trio.
Also Devil Fruit Weapons may be capable of using Haki, if their wielder is able to imbue them with his own haki they might get a sense on how it works.
