So it seems we'll get the other 8 Straw Hats adventures on their respective islands in the anime before Oda finishes their cover stories in the manga, eh?
Pretty weird, but whatever. The anime is already dangerously close to the manga as is.

This is like a dream come true. The eighth episode and Vegeta and Nappa are already on Earth.
Spandam was an awesome character and a scumbag of a villain, but Luffy gets my vote.
Bellemere gets my vote. Like Luffy said, Mr. 1's nobody.
Looks pretty sweet. When it comes around to the States, I'll definetly pick it up.
Hopefully FUNi goes out on a limb and gets this movie available for us subbed when it comes out. This looks too awesome for words.
The season 2 covers have been looking pretty sweet.
Hopefully we get third voyage by October, can't wait for Drum Island.
Erm, I highly doubt that a topic like that will ever be broached in One Piece.
As for the new issue of Shonen Jump, that's three chapters, so they have around eight more to go of Vol. 23. They're probably going to pigeonhole any information about the skip to Impel Down or an accelerated release until the issue where they finish off Alabasta.
Possibly not, but it can always be implied. I didn't say that it would definetly happen.
Even though it hasn't been fully touched on by Oda yet, I got the feeling when Hancock was talking about her time as a slave that it also perhaps implied that she was raped or sexually abused as well.
I guess we'll find out what exactly when we get further backstory on Hancock.
It's Thursday and FUNi hasn't put up this weeks episodes yet. They must be running behind.
Hopefully this two month release scheduele sticks all the way to the end of Skypiea. This seriously is awesome news.
My, don't generic and pointless flashback sequences suck.
I wouldn't worry. It'll probably be dubbed.
I just hope they don't go the "Dragon ball way" releasing the new chapters in shonen jump and the old chapters too so then releasing two sets of tankoubon; shambody archipielago and end of arabasta/jaya (kinda like dragon ball and dragon ball Z)
Me too. I'm starting to get a bit wary that we haven't gotten official word that the volumes in between Alabasta and Impel Down would be released this year. It's probably nothing to worry about, but I hope Viz doesn't screw us in the long run with a 32 volume gap that won't be filled for another few years or so.
I thought the point of putting up 391-402 was to get people who don't read or watch ahead up to speed with the Sabaody Archipelago arc. Now we're getting a gap when 403 does air. Ah well…
I wonder if after the Sabaody episodes, FUNi will release other arcs like CP9 and Thriller Bark online.
Probably, since FUNimation loves rereleases.
Wonder when 392-400 are gonna be up on FUNi's site. I thought they would have done 1 episode per weekday in time for 403's premiere.
Both this and the news of Viz speeding up the manga has made 2009 for me.
If that second paragraph is true, then FUNi's dubbing the Shabondy Island arc right now?! Even if this isn't true, FUNi streaming subbed One Piece is awesome news!
Edit: 391 subbed is on the FUNi's One Piece site right now. What a freaking surprise!
That Straw Hat flag is as good as mine.
If it's a choice between Jewell and Vic for Brook, I'd go with Jewell. I've thought that since back when Brook first appeared two years ago.
Whats with all the Jimbei hate? Not all of the Sea Warlords are evil y'know. Jimebi's already proven to be a very intriging character who will only become more interesting with time. Oda hyped Japan up for 11 freaking years with this guy. You know he's gonna be good.
This just wouldn't work, why don't people ever learn?
Just watch it, it's got some canon material in it.
I was wondering though, those three filler episodes had very little Nami and Robin. How come filler doesn't focus on them? I wouldn't complain about a Nami and Robin slumber party filler episode.
I think Toei actually had an episode planned for them during the post-Enies Lobby episodes, but it then got pulled for probably being too bland.
I even remember us getting a title for it, something about a shopping mall I think…
One Piece doesn't need a new title. I never saw the point to that when at the end of the day, it's the same exact show.
character design and animation are 2 different things….
it's nice to see a person can actually post in this thread about the old anime now, without getting tottally bashed and flamed out for liking it. So frustrating that this is my favorite anime, and I could never post about it here. Thank you current posters for letting others have an opinion.
There's nothing really wrong with the first anime adaptation, besides being random and overly dramatic at times. All in all, it's pretty enjoyable to watch, but it still doesn't hold a candle to the manga.
does anyone know why its been pushed off until late-2009?
Probably because Oda has the full time job of writing and drawing the One Piece manga weekly as well.
i think they rushed over stuff that they focus'd on in the first series. Like Ed's recovery was shown in a bit more detail in the first one. Where as this time, they really covered the whole loss of limbs thing and the truth.
Yep, they did pretty much leave out all of Ed's recovery and nerve connecting. It'll probably be shown some point in the future.
It's cause there are some being removed, such as Goku telling Kuririn and Roshi that if they died, they couldn't be brought back to life with the Dragon Balls again.
Not anything that really needed to be said though, since Dragonball fans will already have known that.
That episode was seriously consensed as a pose to the manga chapters. It wasn't bad, but it did feel very rushed at times. I would've rathered they put the Elric brothers backstories where they were in the manga, after Rush Valley.
The American version will also have a plus in that FUNi will probably keep most of the original cast, minus Daemon Clark (Scar) and Aaron Dismuke (Al). I believe only Ed, Al, and a few other character's voice actors were kept in the Japanese version, while most other characters VAs were replaced.
Looking at the whole Brolly=Foxy thing, I wonder if FUNi will give Vic a crack at Foxy. Should be interesting.
I'm gonna go with 601. I can see Rescue Ace taking up the rest of the 500's.
@John:
When do you think we will get a 2nd trailer???
Considering the movie is coming out in December, probably not for a few months.
Expect similar announcements on the new FMA series as well, and Slayers Evolution-R. (They've already got the previous moneymakers, they're bound to do the follow up.)
I believe FUNi already has the rights to dub FMA: Brotherhood. They're already subbing it on the official site, so the English dub should come around some time later this year.
This first episode was great. Glad to see that the whole Gohan following a butterfly and tiger bit was cut straight to the waterfall. That always put me to sleep. I have to say Toei did a great job in condensing it. I have high hopes for FUNi getting this. It'll give them a chance to actually do a right DB dub.
oh sh.. there goes the fan subbers. I'm totally opposite you, shinobi. I can't forse myself to do the english, even though i've been told it's good.
That's a shame man. Even though I normally do watch dubbed anime as opposed to subbed anyway, I have to say FMA has probably the best English dub I've ever seen. I can expect FUNi to pull out all the stops again with Brotherhood.
Looks like FUNi's gonna be streaming this subbed on their FMA website in 2 days. I just can't wait till they dub it. I've only seen the English version and watching the Japanese just doesn't have the same effect on me.
Now here's a good question: where will the commentary go I wonder. On the filler or the cannon material?
I'm hoping we get one with all the Straw Hats on the episode they enter the Grand Line, which would count as both filler and canon material.
After listening to it a few more times, I have to say the song itself has grown on me now too. At least we don't have any of those Straw Hats casually walking along the beach on a sunny day shots this time around.
Can't really say much about the new opening. It's pretty sweet and the animation is great. The song just screams generic anime opening music though.
Magellan is there guys…
Just before Luffy and Ace appear back to back, we can see a sneak peak of him...Look closely... Right before the burning effect
Sorry dude, look closer. It's Ace chained up. People have already been saying that.
HA! That isn't Magellan! The animators must be trying to fuck with our heads.
I'm still in shock here. It's like forwarding the whole story. From the point in the anime -> current manga point. In 2:50.
Damn Spoiler-Toei.
Not really. It mainly covers pretty much the first one or two chapters of Luffy in Impel Down (minus Jimbei of course, who is sihlouetted anyway). It's not like we're seeing Ivankof popping up anywhere in the opening.
The music is kind of strange, but I figure I'll get used to it. The animation is very nice and extremely spoilerific.
I do have to say, it is a step from the We Are! remake.
Looks pretty nice. I don't mind the steam engine at all, it gives it a nice touch. This has to be a sequel to The Wind Waker/Phantom Hourglass though.
As long as there's no Temple of the Ocean King-like dungeon in this game, I'm sure I'll love it.
I usually don't watch anime subbed besides One Piece, but I will definetely be making exceptions for Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and Dragonball Kai.
Whiskey Peak leads into/builds up Little Garden and Alabasta.
Shabondy Islands leads into/builds up Impel Down.
Jaya leads into/builds up Skypiea.
Water 7 and Enies Lobby are two sides of the same coin in my opinion. But I guess it's however you want to interpret it.
