Nami. Sacrifices herself for the crew in a matter similar to Bellemere's death i.e. gun to the head.

RE: Opening 13 Discussion Thread
Sounds good. Hopefully this fits the tension of the arc, unlike the current opening.
Something I never understood, wouldn't this be opening 12 and Sagashite 11, if you don't count the Straw Hat version of We Are as an opening? Makes more sense.

RE: FUNimation Simulcast Discussion
But how would they do that though? Have him talk through a silhouette, or just show the silhouette and have him stay silent? Or maybe just referencing him by name would be best.
Saying the name's fine. Be just like how he's going to be introduced to the story anyway. We'll just hear of him
! before Ace dies

RE: FUNimation Simulcast Discussion
Precisely. Actually, I'd be very curious to see that done.
Only question at hand is whether or not it would be a good thing to show Sabo now or later.
Wouldn't be a good thing to fully show Sabo.
Hinting at him in the flashback, that's fine. Keeps curiosity up, but doesn't completely ruin it for the anime-only fans.

@dirt:
I don't get the hate for that one. I find it one of the more tolerable fillers in One Piece.
It's tolerable, true. But extremely boring.

RE: Full Metal Alchemist Discussion
Hey, I missed episode #2–Could someone tell me who played the narrator at the beginning? I'm curious, since they might also end up voicing Father.
Kent Williams did the narrator.

RE: New official Viz media topic V2.
I just got 29-33 today. I like the Zoro slip they did. My only peeve is that Volume 32 is titled Water 7 when 4/5 of it is Skypiea.
Probably because the Water Seven storyline (Davy Back Fight included) starts in that volume. I agree it is pretty strange to do when the entire volume, save for two chapters is Skypiea.
They did the same thing for volume 50 too, giving it the subtitle, Sabaody, when most of it is clearly Thriller Bark.

RE: Official Fishman Island Discussion
I guess you enjoy bumping threads that are exactly two years old.
Funny thing is, I think everybody thought Fishman Island would've been over with by now. We ain't even there yet.

RE: "Luffy's Last Adventure As A 17 Year-Old"
When and where did Oda state that an old boss/villain would sail with Luffy to the New World?
That could mean just about anything though. They could just become a case like Johnny, Yosaku, and Vivi, and simply sail with the Straw Hats for a little while, in which case it most likely is Hachi.
-
RE: "Luffy's Last Adventure As A 17 Year-Old"
about that luffy ages to 27 theory. since luffy didn't go through iva's entire treatment then maybe he will age to 21? 27 seems way to old. 21 would be just right.
Reread chapter 538, he went through and survived the ENTIRE treatment.

RE: "Luffy's Last Adventure As A 17 Year-Old"
Like other people said, skipping a year has a lot of bad consequences and Oda avoided that early on during Little Garden by adding Vivi into the story, so he can continue avoiding the major time skips that slow down the manga and speed up the time greatly…
What exactly is this referring to? The log on Little Garden taking a year to set?
-
RE: "Luffy's Last Adventure As A 17 Year-Old"
Joined the party late, but based on the hints we've been given, there seems to be three possible outcomes to this situation, which we'll find out at the end of this arc.
1. Timeskip
Let's face it, Luffy's been through tough battles before where his recovery period has taken days at a time, but never has it been like this. He was fatally poisoned by Magellan, brought back from the brink after undergoing a rigorous hormone-inducing recovery (which will only work for 24 hours), helped to spearhead the mass breakout from Impel Down, and joined the battle at Marinford, where he was just nearly killed by Kizaru. Add to this the emotional stress he's been suppressing about wondering where his crew is and whether they're OK, and his desperate need to save Ace, not to mention the shot of vigor hormones Ivankov gave him this weeks chapter and we can safely assume that Luffy will be out of commission for a while after this war is over.If Oda does decide to go the timeskip route, the time Luffy spends sleeping, which I can see being up to weeks could showcase the rest of the crew and their adventures, on their way back to Sabaody Archipelago. That's the only forseeable outcome I see in this arc. I doubt Oda would go the Naruto/DBZ "training" route for the timeskip, it's not his style (thankfully).
The longest I can see this skip lasting? Anywhere from a few weeks to a year, which could age Luffy up to 18 as well as the rest of the crew too.
2. 27-year-old Luffy
Just like Son Goku before him, we could see Luffy grow to be an adult in the course of this series. This seems to be the most likely outcome, since Ivankov's comment about the hormone recovery process taking 10 years off his life wouldn't really affect the story when it's estimated that the journey around the world is just 2-3 years. The there's the fact that Oda said that movie 10 was LUFFY's last adventure as a 17-year-old and fans should "burn it into their memory". The fact that he wouldn't mention anything else about it, also seemed to suggest that it would affect the story in a big way in the culmination of this arc. Also interesting to note, Luffy would also be the same age Shanks was during the first chapter, don't think that'll really have any special bearing on the story though.
Can this work? Why not? It's Oda, he's been known to take any ridiculous sounding idea and make it plausible, so why not an adult Luffy? He'd just better have a good reason for doing so, which I don't doubt he has.
3. New World is just THAT fucking intense
We've had a lot of fun, adventurous arcs throughout the Grand Line and while they're all well and good, we know nothing of what the New World brings now, nor what it will bring after the Rescue Ace arc is over. It's obvious one must be completely serious about their ambition if they're willing to brave those unknown waters. Maybe this arc's resolution will serve as a coming of age plot point for Luffy, realizing that the time for being a kid is over and if he plans to head for the New World with the rest of his crew, he must be fully prepared mentally. That is I don't think the adventure aspect of the story will go away, I can just see Luffy becoming much more serious about his dream and his crew, after nearly losing both in this arc. And if Oda wants, he can throw a birthday in there too. Those are my ideas anyway, discuss!

RE: Unofficial Funi DVD discussions
@Yuugi's:
It's thirteen episodes of filler, not 80. It won't kill anybody to buy the set if there's at least one canon episode on it.
The man speaks the truth. Plus 130 is a better starting episode than ending episode, set wise.

RE: Next Crew Member Speculation (Ver 3.0)
About the locksmith thing, are we serious here? That's pretty freaking funny.
If anything, Mr. 3 is more suited to joining Buggy's crew instead.
-
RE: Future returning characters
mostly kuro for me, seeing as he didn't go back and kill the villagers after being beatan anyway, he probably pulled a Buggy/Alvida/Smoker and set towards the GL for revenge against Luffy, hopefully awakening his pirate nature after being idle for so long. Seriously, his insane speed versus Luffy's gear 2nd, that would be insane…if he could handle it...
I think we've had enough fill of past villains coming back for revenge on Luffy or another purpose. Kuro and Arlong at that have most likely been retired by Oda and will never be used again in the present story.
I can see Arlong appearing in some flashback sequences during the Fishman Island arc though (since we did see a silhouette of him and his crew as kids in the Sabaody arc). But as for him escaping his prison in East Blue and coming all the way across the Grand Line, not likely. Oda already brought back Hachi, Arlong's gonna stay in prison.

RE: Questions That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread
Well, it may be subtle, maybe even unintentional, but there is somewhat of a time frame…. for the early part of the story at least.
http://www.onemanga.com/One_Piece/557/14-15/
http://www.onemanga.com/One_Piece/133/19/The frame where Ace is showing WB Luffy's bounty poster. And Dalton saying 2-3 months ago, town was destroyed by the Blackbeard pirates.
Now assuming the trans is correct… we know
Luffy got his first bounty after defeating Arlong.
Blackbeard defected after killing Thatch. So assuming Ace went after Blackbeard immediately and had already shown Whitebeard a bounty poster of Luffy, this means that Luffy had already defeated Arlong before BB defected.
And BB had gathered a crew and ravaged Drum Island 2-3 months prior(supposedly) to the Strawhat's arrival there, which tells us quite some time had passed between Luffy's defeat of Arlong and arriving at Drum.
Of course this is just a theory thrown together from a couple pages and is assuming quite a few things(such as Ace never meeting up with WB after leaving to chase BB... but that didn't seem likely), and may even be a slip up. lol
Looks like Oda wrote himself into a plothole with this one. Unless 2-3 months really did pass between Arlong Park and Drum Island, which I doubt. He'll probably try and cover it up if questioned with "Well, maybe Ace came back to Whitebeard's ship after a while." or simply retcon the 2-3 months to 2-3 weeks.

RE: Next Crew Member Speculation (Ver 3.0)
I doubt anybody would be joining at the end of this arc, but if Oda came out with a statement, "Yes, Luffy will gain a new crew member after this war.", then I'd have to say Hancock.
Her status as a Warlord is probably going to be revoked after attacking Smoker and she has "love sickness" for Luffy, whatever that means. Oda'll probably go more in detail with it at this arcs climax and we'll have a clearer idea if she'll actually be joining.
If not though, I can see her playing a pretty big part in the story since there must've been a reason Kuma sent Luffy to her island. Possibly teaching Luffy how to fully use haki.

RE: Future returning characters
Although Ener is charming enough to have a role in story once more, I can't really see a place for him from this point. Ener is, for now, the only villain of One Piece who made his own dream come true - today he is only lord of the Fairy Vearth ruling a vast kingdom and nation of his own - who love him not out of fear but out of gratefulness. Is there a point for him to leave his real dream for something else, I wonder?
Also, at least for some time, Ener can't move - Maxim is destroyed, after all.Did you forget about the mural on the Moon that depicted winged people falling to the various sky islands and the Blue Sea? Plus, I believe the Spaceys tie into Vegapunk's home island.
Eneru will come back into play, but probably much later on in the story.
And Gin is dead I believe. Oda just didn't have the heart to showcase his death onscreen. So he sort of gets away with it.

RE: ONE PIECE: MOVIE 10 ~ Strong World
Every One Piece volume is in the top 200?! Now THATS a true accomplishment!
-
RE: The Clip after the Opening (Gold Rogers Story)
They changed the clip at episode 396 I believe, and the reason is obvious?
You really want to sit through that dull monotonic Roger flashback every episode? Even for new fans, it's pretty much explains nothing about the current story. The new intro clip at least introduces the main cast, the overall story, and Roger being Pirate King as well.
Is the new one better? Yep. Is it needed? Not really.
-
RE: Future returning characters
I think anybody who's been featured in a cover story thus far is slated for a return. Eneru and CP9 seem to be a definite given, as well as Captain Morgan. Wapol and Gedatsu are a little less likely, but could still happen nonetheless.
And Gin is dead, no question about it.
-
RE: Unofficial Funi DVD discussions
Yeah, that track from the Scorpion episode played once in the series. We haven't heard it since.
-
RE: Unofficial Funi DVD discussions
@LUFFY#1:
Hey do you guys think Vic will redo his opening 3 theme for S2V5?
Nah. If anything, the only change made will be in Roger's speech in the beginning, since the voice Sean Hannigan's used for Roger has changed considerably since then.

RE: FUNimation Simulcast Discussion
Nice to actually see some quality animation in the show again for once. Now if only, it could stay this way…
-
RE: Unofficial Funi DVD discussions
You also had to remember that on the press release when Funi first gotten One Piece, they said Season 3 will be 144 - 206.
Again, still 2 years ago. Trust me, Robin joining + filler will be the start of season 3. It makes season 2 a hell of a lot shorter and gives it a much better bookended conclusion.
-
RE: Unofficial Funi DVD discussions
But remember, 4Kids hasn't had the license to the series since 2006. I doubt for their own releases, FUNi would still follow 4Kids season ordering. They'e just trying to make Baroque Works all of season 2.
Just watch, season 2 will end with sixth voyage.
-
RE: Unofficial Funi DVD discussions
Since when has FUNi confirmed that the Rainbow Mist set is still part of season 2? It makes a whole lot more sense to leave sixth voyage as season 2's finale and have the filler set with Robin joining open season 3, which is most likely what will happen.

RE: FUNimation Simulcast Discussion
The first two episodes of this mini-arc were promising in both story and animation. These last two seriously disappointed me though. Everything I thought was going to connect somehow to Strong World didn't
I thought Little East Blue was going to have something to do with Shiki's plan and why he wants to destroy East Blue. No! I thought the reason why the some of the villagers loved Nami had to do with why she's captured in Strong World or that they were from Cocoyashi Village as well. No! I thought the giant beetle would lead more into movie 10, no! It turns out at the end that Shiki didn't even care much that the beetle went missing.
If the beetle or Little East Blue aren't even remotely mentioned in Strong World, then we can definetely consider these past 4 episodes true filler in that Toei was just trying to hype up the movie and stall the anime's stride for a few weeks.
-
RE: If you were One Piecanime director…
I agree with the above post. So much potential for good filler episodes there. Toei also took a right turn with the post-Enies Lobby filler, just executed it poorly.
-
RE: Unofficial Funi DVD discussions
Mine just shipped. Should be here by next Tuesday.
-
RE: FUNimation Simulcast Discussion
The new opening was… well, the visuals and animation were great. The song, not so much. It feels more like it could have fit as an ending theme rather than an opening. I guess this also means Toei is now officially changing the opening every 6 months now, which sucks. I much preferred the openings lasting around a year.
-
RE: FUNimation Simulcast Discussion
The episode still keeps freezing up at Drake for me.
And we'll probably get a new opening once Impel Down is over with around April or so.
-
RE: Jigsaw Puzzle Scan
Nice looking picture. Reminds me of the 10th anniversary calender they released in 2007.
-
RE: Which episodes should Season Four Encompass?
How bout we find out when the DVDs are released instead of endlessly debating back and forth?
-
RE: Full Metal Alchemist Discussion
I actually liked this episode. The ending was done very nicely.
-
RE: Full Metal Alchemist Discussion
63 episodes is better than 51, but still it sucks that even the new material is being condensed as well.
And I bet the character FUNi has Aaron Dismuke voicing this time round is Ling.
-
RE: Unofficial Funi DVD discussions
I'm hoping Mr. Prince makes an appearance on the cover.
-
RE: Unofficial Funi DVD discussions
Trailer for fourth Voyage was great. FUNi's been doing an amazing job with the previews for season two. Season one's trailers sort of annoyed me at times, especially third voyage's.
-
RE: FUNimation Simulcast Discussion
Hancock is the only Warlord I can see actually joining the Straw Hats. As for whether she actually will or not, that still seems very up in the air. The Straw Hats do need a new female member and it was stated that Hancock will probably die if she's away from Luffy.
I think we need to find out mor about this "love sickness" thing before we can consider Hancock part of the crew.
-
RE: New official Viz media topic V2.
Everything on this fucking forum turns into a translation argument.
Translation arguements and Vivi rejoining debates.
I could care less about Zolo or other little translation mishaps. This is the One Piece manga in America and as long as Viz is doing quality work on it, I'll support it without end.
-
RE: ONE PIECE: MOVIE 10 ~ Strong World
I'm really getting pumped up for this movie more and more. Hopefully, Toei and FUNi strike a deal and make it available subbed online when it comes out on DVD in Japan.
-
RE: Unofficial Funi DVD discussions
I'm feeling third voyage may get shipped out tomorrow from Rightstuf.
-
RE: Unofficial Funi DVD discussions
Wendy Powell could also play Kureha as well.
-
RE: Which episodes should Season Four Encompass?
It should probably be G8 through Water 7, eps 196-263. Season five should encompass Enies Lobby.
-
RE: Final Round: Luffy vs Zoro
Too hard of a choice to make. It eventually came down to Luffy.
-
RE: Buggy vs Zoro
Let's hope Buggy's lead is the just till 2AM curse.
-
RE: Crocodile vs Luffy
As awesome a villain Croc was, I can't bring myself to vote against Luffy this round.
