RE: Oda's Interviews
So what Oda is basically saying is we already have all necessery clues to figure out what One Piece is. I think with that we can assume that at least one of many fandom theories is correct and there will be no totally unexpected twist regarding what the treasure it.

RE: 994: ''Red Scabbard Showdown - Kikunojo vs. Kanjuro''
Great episode and the preview for next one looks even better. Roof Piece is almost upon us and honestly im more hyped about the anime at this moment than the manga.

RE: Volume 100 Predictions/Discussion
Am I the only one annoyed by the fact that background colours do not transistion smoothly into each other from one volume to the other? I hope it's just a matter of image quality and the actual volumes match each other.

RE: Oda's Interviews
Dressrosa is a mess because it's basically three arcs combined into one. Doflamingo-Riku Family-Law arc, Colliseum-Grand Fleet arc and Green Bit-Dwarves arc (and Green Bit was confirmed to be a separate arc in early plans). Truth be told separate those three into arcs and different islands and people would enjoy each of them much more than when combined into one. Sure, oda saved probably like a year of publishing by doing it all at once, but at what cost? Biggest mistake he made. Thankfully it got a little better in WCI and Wano, though it's nowhere near pre-skip level.
Pre skip arcs never felt that way, which is why pre skip is considered better. Oda wasn't trying to squeeze as much stuff as he can into single arc, so storylines in the arcs had more breathing room and hit better. Arcs felt more concise, structurally better and thematically consistent. Now it's basically a big fight for panel time that in the ends most characters lose. It's just a big mess with cool moments and cool revalations instead of good, smooth, satysfying storytelling.

RE: Volume 96 Predictions/Discussion
Coloring is straight garbage. It's like Oda doesn't even care and just slaps random colors becuase he wants it to be colorful.

Editor Onishi: ONE PIECE is 60-70% done and it will probably finish within 10 years.
Interview with editor Onishi at ONE PIECE exhibition in Taiwan (2014)

RE: Oda's Interviews
@Gia:
! - How does he fit Vegapunk himself, his devilfruit explanations, weapons, Kuma, Bonney, Germa, Caesar, into Wano, Elbaf or the Final War? I personally cant see it, which is why I think its a separate arc entirely.
- Where does Enel and his moon plot fit into the remainder of the story? Additionally, every other old villain set up for more story, namely Buggy, Crocodile, Moria and Lucci
- What was the point in letting us know 2 people know BMs secret if it doesnt pay off in the future?
- What was the point in the 3 additional underworld emeperors that have yet to get exposure? The hints that Kaido still gets stuff via Underworld trading after Joker?
- There are Impel Down escapees still roaming about, what are they doing?
- Marco and Weevil? Will be tied to Wano? Former WB pirates?
- The ancient weapons
- The National Treasure
- Fishman Islands destruction/Noah
- The Marines and WG as a whole. They have hierarchies that need to be taken down.
- The last 2 Yonko
- Urogue and the Supernova as a whole
- SHF
- DREAMS
! And a ton fuck more.
That's a lot of stuff to be sure, but let me ask you one question. What makes the big arcs so freaking long and time-consuming?
The anwser is - internal storylines and abundance of new side characters.
The Final War and most of the things you have mentioned will have the benefit of not having this. All of the characters will be already established, as there are no more groups or big crews to introduce, aside from Giants (which I think will be handled similiary to Zou and Minks, meaning Elbaf will be a short arc, and Giants internal conflict/storyline will be tied to final war and resolved then, the same way how Minks storyline is tied to Wano and Kaido). Without the need to introduce and build up shitton of stuff, Oda will be able to focus on just resolving and providing closure to past plotlines and characters, which will make the pacing much better than what we have usual. I don't think 5 years is enough, but I can totally see him ending everything in 7. Just look at the WB war saga. The whole thing was as long as Dressrosa, yet managad to achieve so much more becuase it didn't have that "classic adventure" storytelling with lots on focus put on the locals, island's history and goofing around.

RE: Oda's Interviews
This is completely random, but I expect the Strawhats to fight the red-hair pirates at some point, and maybe Nami could get a mini-arc at that point? I think Mihawk would get wrapped up in this and be Zoro's opponent, so maybe Nami gets some kind of intelligence duel against Ben Beckman. Perhaps they'll be the strategists for whatever they do or something, since I doubt it'd be just a normal fight
Devy Back Fight seems like the perfect solution for RHs vs SHs. This way then can have a friendly fight and focus not solely on fighting itself, but utilizing other strenghts.
-
RE: One Pace
Great work, and I'm very glad you're including some of the non-manga material.
-
RE: Oda's Interviews
It's funny because Luffy wanted to use Skypiea gold to make/buy a bronze statue before Water 7 started.
-
RE: Chapter 915: Bakura Town
@joekido:
I think Oda need to set up a time table here because if this takeover was 20 years ago, then we must look to Momonsuke who is supposed to be 10 years old so how does this fit? Oh and that roof must be a balloon but isn't the New World suppose to be a physic defying place?
Orochi takeover must have happened way before Kaido came and killed Oden. Wano needs to have its own problems that's are unrelsted to Kaido.
-
RE: Chapter 914: Okobore, the Town of Leftovers
While Zoro-Luffy interaction are great, I wish we can move on with some other character to deepens the arc plotlines. I guess next chapter would be a good moment to switch.
Please no switching, let's finish this plotline first before we move on to the next.
I love that Oda is trying to keep everything so straight and simple for now. It's a great way to avoid a clusterfuck of plotlines and characters that Dressrosa was.
Just look how he juggles the characters so the pacing won't slow down. First we get Tengu and Otama, then Tengu is out and Tsuru comes in, and now Tsuru is out and Kiku comes in.
WCI was a big improvment in terms of planning after the mess Dressrosa was, and if those 5 chapters are any indication of how this arc will be handled, the trend will continue.

RE: Oda's Interviews
@Big:
Inuarashi only states that the Log Pose point to a certain point where you learn of the existence the Poneglyphs. But the fact that raftel is specifically referred to as the "Last Island" isn't contradicted by that.
Point is, the last island on the log pose route and Raftel are not one and the same, because that island is the place where you learn how to get to Raftel as Inuarashi stated. It wouldn't make any sense to learn how to get to Raftel at Raftel.
So unless that last log pose island is Elbaf, we can add another arc into the mix of arcs that are left to cover.
-
RE: Oda's Interviews
http://kissmanga.com/Manga/One-Piece/One-Piece–-820?id=320589#9
And the following pages.
Inu confirmed that the last island on GL, the one at the end of log pose routes, is just a place where you learn about poneglyphs and Raftel.
-
RE: Oda's Interviews
Why would they need to go to those 4 islands? Who said the points marked on Road Poneglyphs even are islands? All they have to do is mark them on the world map, there's not reason to visit them.
Also people seem to forget that Raftel and the last island on the Grand Line are not one and the same, so you can add one more arc that's definietely going to happen.

RE: The Whole Cake Island Whole Arc Discussion Thread - Reviews for Totland
I look at the cake plotline from a little bit different perspective. While everyone wants the cake to create consequences, I feel the cake was a consequence in itself, one that had to happen in order to keep Sanji in character. It's not that Oda wanted Sanji to make a cake to cause something. He HAD to have Sanji make a cake, because this is what kind of person Sanji is. No matter if it's friend of foe, or how dire the situation is, Sanji won't walk away from a hungry person. The final page of 902 really makes me feel that was Oda's train of thought all along.
It might seem like a rehash of what we had on Baratie, but I think the whole point was to tackle this familiar part of Sanji's character and then push it to the very limit. Making a cake was basically meant to prove that he has complete freedom in exercising his own will, to be who he is. He was thought to feed those who are hungry, so if BM wants to eat, and she will eat only a cake, then he's going to make her a goddamn cake, even if there's hell all around. That is a kind of person he was raised to be and walking away from it would be an admission of defeat.

RE: Chapter 906: The Holy Land Mary Geoise
So we live in a world where people can build cyborgs but no one bothered inventing an automated conveyor belt?
Why should they? The one powered by slaves works good, so don't fix what isn't broken. CD have everything and can do anything, they don't really care how it works, and if they care, I bet they would rather have it be powered by slaves.

I've seen some people giving this volume 1 star on amazon while talking only about his message. I'm curious what is says and what's the historical context.

RE: Theories That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread v.2
Ya know, just after we were revealed the four emperors, in Thriller Bark we got Lola, Wano and the "kaido killed Moria's crew" plots.
What else did we get? Captain John the corpse and the treasure tracker thingie.
Lola's vivre card and just her friendship with the crew was important for the safe recovery of Big Mom's phoneglyph.
I'd be ready to believe that Captain John's treasure is relevant to the quest.
I'm like 99% sure Captain John's treasure is Road Poneglyph. Because what else could it be at this point of the story? It's not just some random detail, Oda clearly had a plan when introducing this, so it must be very important, and the road poneglyph seems like the most logical thing.
Morever, I believe Blackbeard is going to target Buggy after he finds out about this. And this is when Shanks vs BB is going to happen. Shanks won't let BB kill Buggy, because they are best bros(buggy being tsundere).
Shanks is going to die protecting Buggy, I can bet my account on it.
Going back to Thriller Bark - yes, it seems like Oda made shitload of set up for like the whole yonko saga in that arc.
-
RE: Chapter 903: The Fifth Emperor
hey, can anyone tell me when are we getting the next chapter? I lost track of the breaks and whatnot.
-
RE: Official Totland Thread
I didn't get that impression by I won't say it's false.
Same.
If Luffy was able to fight evenly with him also thanks to CoO, then imo Oda failed to communicate that during that portion of the fight.
-
RE: Official Totland Thread
Does anyone else think Luffy vs Katakuri was weirdly written?
I mean, at first the whole fight was all about Luffy improving his CoO and finding out how to bypass Katakuri's godly haki(by making him lose his cool)
And then it simply ends on Luffy randomly coming up with a power up that makes him fast enough to land hits on katakuri, which makes the whole 20 chapters of build up kinda irrelevant, because neither Luffy's CoO nor Katakuri's weakness came into play in the climax of the fight.

RE: 824: ''The Promised Spot - Luffy's Strained One-On-One''
goddamn this episode was awesome, Tomita's scene was amazing and I wish komaki aya could direct every episode of this anime, lol

RE: Chapter 892: Acknowledging a Strong Enemy
All in all about 10 years left total
:D
2010 - everyone says 10 years left
2015 - the editor says One Piece should end in 10 years
2018 - STILL 10 YEARS LEFTI don't know why this isn't a meme already

RE: One Piece Holiday - 2017 - 2018
can anyone clarify if we're getting a chapter next week? i'm confused
-
RE: Oda's Interviews
Maybe Oda changed his mind and decided to create one more arc before Wano, or maybe he wants to greatly expand reverie arc.
IDK, but I'm excited.

RE: One Piece Chapter 879:One of Big Mom's Three Sweet Commanders, Katakuri.
I really want BM to fall into the sea and somehow come back out of it without anyone's help. That would cement her as an unstoppable force you simply can't outrun and add a lot of tension to the escape/surivival. Big Mom has been a disappointment offensive-wise, but if Oda manages to create a real sense of desperation steming from inability to escape, then she can still live up to her status. I also hope the cake won't be enough to stop her. Cake + Pudding powers being the only thing able to do that would be perfect and show that SH's alone simply wouldn't be able to survive this.
-
RE: Chapter 878: Mink Tribe, Guardian Chief Pedro
@Count:
I don't mind Roger being similar to Luffy all that much aside from having the straw hat. That felt unnecessary and too coincidental, even for somebody with as many special connections to people as Luffy.
You just watch this hat turning out to be a symbol passed down from the original D clan and making an appearence in the void century flashback. I can bet my arm on it, lol.
-
RE: Chapter 877: I'm Not That Sweet
I feel like people are missing the point with Pedro. Whether he lives or dies doesn't really matter. Even if he surived, he'll be left behind on BM's island and she and her crew will take care of him/take his soul/imprison him. It's the sacrifice that counts.
-
RE: ''Episode of East Blue: Luffy and His Four Companions' Grand Adventure''
Just watched it and it was much better than I thought it would be.
-
RE: Next Strawhat Crewmate (Vol. 6)
I'm in agreement that Jinbe should be the final strawhat.
-
RE: Oda's Interviews
It would be impossible to make Wano satisfying in merely 30 chapters.
Anyway, lenght of the arc isn't really the problem here. Oda cutting corners and focusing on wrong things is.
-
RE: Oda's Interviews
They keep hyping the shit out of Wano. Let's hope it doesn't end up as Dressrosa 2.0
-
RE: Oda's Interviews
- ONE PIECE has more characters than before. He has to cram much information into one chapter to move forward with the story.
Oda says he would be able to draw really impressive fight scenes only if he could keep drawing the fight scene for 2 chapters in a row.
He feels ONE PIECE can now spend only 1 chapter at most on a fight scene.
That's… sad.
Well, at least he knows that he still needs 2 chaps to make it really impressive. Let's hope important ones will get that treatment.

RE: "Episode of East Blue" anime special, plus manga cover stories, coming August 26
meh, this will basically be a clipshow with new animation
They should have made a 3 cour remake of East Blue, that would've been something.

RE: One Piece celebrates its 20th Anniversary in 2017
- "Something" will happen on July 22nd. (OP chapter 1 was published on the day 20 years ago.)
Did he mean the story or just something OP-related like an announcement of a new novel?

RE: Official Totland Thread
I found it worth noting how this week we find out Linlin is regarded as an unspeakable horror among giants. Yet Linlin herself stated back in chapter 847, later reiterated by Chiffon in chapter 858, that the union of Loki and Lola would have forged an alliance between Elbaf and Totto Land. At the least a partnership was feasible under the right conditions, when giants already thought of Linlin as the worst person in the world. We know what Linlin would've gotten out of that arrangement. But what i'm curious about now is what would the giants have gotten out of it? The way Chiffon tells it the marriage itself would've been enough for them.
we'll find out in 10 years when elbaf arc hits

RE: Chapter 868: KX Launcher
@Count:
Pretty much. Placing emphasis on there being two witnesses indicates some sort of mystery and future big reveal in mind. If it was really as clear cut as just cannibalism (not that cannibalism can't be involved at all, I mean only that), I don't really see why Oda would go to such lengths to still hide it, continue the flashback like this, and have Big Mom so fixated on not knowing what really happened. Especially compared to the really dark things he's done like with Law's backstory, and acknowledging Zeff's autocannibalism (although Linlin is on a whole other level of morbid).
Either Oda doesn't want to show it because it's too much for one reason or another. OR he wants to show the whole thing when BM actually remembers it, likely with the use of Pudding's power. I've been speculating for a while that that is how they will calm her down - by showing her what she continues to scream about - whereabouts of her mother.
-
RE: Official Totland Thread
@.access:
At this point, I don't think there's anywhere to go except Carrot being the traitor.
Unlike Pedro, she has zero relevance to this arc. She has no side plot of her own, she didn't got her own scenes, she didn't got her own jokes. She is always just on the background showing generic reactions. And yet, Oda went through the trouble of making her joining the group later instead of at the same time as the others. There HAS to be a reason for her to be in the team and so far she didn't add absolutely anything at all (sure, she defeated a few of BM Pirates, but Oda could easily circumvent solve those situations without her).
There is also the fact that she has proven to be a much more competent fighter than she is being given credit for (she clashed with Zoro and even dodged his attack, defeated Randolf easily and then with a single attack defeated not only him but a dozen of other BM Pirates. And still, she is kept with Nami and Chopper instead of joining Pedro on the front line), adding to the impression that Oda is trying to keep her around while not drawing much attention to her.Or she might simply be a red herring, and Pedro is the real traitor.

RE: A Study of One Piece Animation
That Neko/Jack scene Tomita did makes me think he's being inspired by Shida's work.

RE: Greg: Teacher of SUPER " OP " course !
Sorry to barge in that haki discussion, but I have some thought about Pudding I want to share.
> If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?
Don't you think this is where Oda is heading with Pudding? (quote from Alice in Wonderland)
What if she was abused as a child, so she decided to create herself a wonderland, a place where everyone respects her, where she is the most valuable person, where she can do whatever she wants and live a good life?
What is she never was Big Mom's child so she changed her and her family memories to make herself one of the daughters?
What if Big Mom hated freaks, because she herself is kind of a freak, so Pudding changed her memories so that she would love the weirdos and therefore her?
What if her third eye has no superpowers and she just changed BM's memories so that she could be valuble and therefore respected?
What if she was to marry a giant but refused and changed everyone's memories so that they wouldn't blame her for not doing it?What if her good side wasn't the only thing she was acting? What if her evil side was also an act? What if crying Pudding from this chapter was the first time we actually saw the REAL Pudding? I mean, her cute side was just too cute to be real, but people seem to ignore that her evil side is also downwright cartoonish.
Just look how some people are calling this sudden change of Pudding bullshit, but what if… what if that NONSENSE was what Oda was aiming at? What if Pudding changed so much in Big Mom and her family through memory change, and in herself through the constant role playing(be it good or evil) that "everything became what it isn't"? What if she created herself a wonderland and is just tired of it and its fakeness?

this is totally happening, excluding buggy dying (from onepiecepodcast)

RE: Theories That Don't Deserve Their Own Thread v.2
Why would Tamago fight Ichiji when he already has an established beef with Pedro?
-
RE: Greg: Teacher of SUPER " OP " course !
As for Pekoms, I have complete opposite theory of what you suggested Greg. I believe Mama is truly evil, and some of her children led by Pudding are planning to overthrow Big Mom because she's just no good for them. Pekoms would then serve to be the final nail in the coffin for the betrayal plot. Since he is portrayed as the most loyal of BM's crew, his realization that Big Mom is evil and cannot be reedemed will remove any sympathetic feeling for BM the readers might have had. That way Pekoms is going to end up on the good side.
Of course, that would probably lead to BM downfall this arc, but at the same time it would leave her crew as potential allies in the future. After all, every yonko will be killed/beaten by the end of OP, so there's no reason to keep BM on the throne. She needs to fall somewhere, and there doesn't seem to be much space in the future for that.
As for your theory, the problem I have with BM being "not such a bad person" is her willingness to murder the whole Vinsmoke family without any good reason. It doesn't seem like Pudding's work, because its just Mom's greed and lust for massacre that drives her, not some memory.
But as much as I would like my theory to come true, yours just seems… more one piece'y and therefore more probable. Nevertheless, I would like to see the children rebel against evil Big Mom for good reasons that have alredy been set up more than Big Mom ending up as not such a bad person. Unfortunately, Pudding's power must have some use in the story, so litreally everything we know can be a lie.
-
RE: Chapter 858: The Meeting
After this chapter, I feel like Oda is going full-blown mutiny route with Big Mom. Most, if not all, of the children are going to be swayed by Bege and Pudding to betray her.
And we haven't had a mutiny in One Piece yet, so it might be the time.
And having one of the yonko taken down by destryoing her from the inside instead of just throwing punches would be cool af
