RE: Chapter 887: Somewhere, Someone Is Wishing For Your Happiness
I think he lifted it with one leg and skywalk.
Oh, is that a different technique? I thought the soru "kicking the ground really quickly" was the same idea as the skywalk.
-
RE: Chapter 887: Somewhere, Someone Is Wishing For Your Happiness
Suuuupeeerrr! Thanks!
Was the a one-footed soru?
-
RE: Chapter 886 : This Ish The Way I Live
Is the cake going to be in danger as they attempt to load it on a ship and set sail?
-
RE: Chapter 885: Grrruuumble
Luffy needs to bring an audience back with him and pull down katakuri's collar. That'd do it.
-
RE: Greg: Teacher of SUPER " OP " course !
I can't stop picturing Charlotte somehow ending up with the demeanor of Yubaba's sister (Spirited Away) at the end of this arc.
-
RE: Greg: Teacher of SUPER " OP " course !
@Count:
He believes it will be a team-up between Luffy, Momo, Marco, and Inurashi as a reference to the main heroes in Momotaro (Momotaro, Monkey, Dog, and Pheasant).
So yes, I guess JRPG boss style.
Aokiji could fit that, as well.

RE: Chapter 872: "Soft and Fluffy"
I liked Oda's author note at the beginning, the Straw Hats as childhood friends the reader grew up with is a way of looking at them I never considered before.
I don't care for this colorspread, it certainly looks nice, but I don't enjoy the Straw Hats cosplaying as the Germa 66. It just makes me aware of the fact that we will see more of the Germa in cover stories. Joy.
I liked seeing Brûlée worried about the rest of the family and Katakuri saving one of his siblings. I thought it was a welcome demonstration of the Charlotte children prioritizing the well-being of their kin. It's quite heartwarming to see a family rally together against a common enemy too.
Bege really is a nice upstanding fellow. Definitely the kind of person who doesn't make you regret working with him. I also have no reason to fear his child growing up to be a menace to society.
The only blemish of this chapter was Nami, her rudeness surprised me in an unpleasant way. Who does she think Gangster Gastino is? Caesar Clown? I think she owes Gastino an apology, what she said was totally uncalled for.
Linlin's incredible facial expressions have become one of my favorite ways to end a chapter. Looks like we have a rampage to look forward to.

Should Ceasar be so easily forgiven for kidnapping and experimenting on children, etc?
-
RE: Chapter 870: Parting
Tamatebakko chest to explode at the bottom and topple the cake mountain to give our heroes the opening to flee.
THIS is the only outcome that seems plausible. The chest has been falling this whole time.
-
RE: Chapter 869: Under Siege
Just as I was about to conjecture: the building on which they stand is coming down from the blast of the tamatebako bomb.
-
RE: Chapter 868: KX Launcher
Sorry if this has already been conjectured: Given what we know of Linlin from the flashbacks, it's possible she's about to completely lose it and go berzerk, putting everyone in harm's way. If this happens, perhaps the children will try to mollify her by bringing out the presents and (booby-trapped) treasure chest.
-
RE: Chapter 868: KX Launcher
Wow, lots of schoolyard tactics being thrown about for an exchange of ideas between friends who share an awesome hobby.
I can very well see how Mom might not have eaten the children.
That's not to say it's what I believe at this point but the option is still there. We're all fans :)
If Linlin hadn't eaten the children, and something else had happened - for example, CP0 kidnapping them - then surely the giant running back to Elbaf would have told a different tale, one not purely focused on Linlin becoming Giant enemy #1.
-
RE: Chapter 868: KX Launcher
wow, well I guess now the question is; how drunk/high on drugs you gotta be that banging a cannibal is not a bad idea?
Adoption into powerful families is common in Japan, especially if there isn't someone to carry on the line. I'm guessing all of Linlin's children are adopted.
-
RE: Chapter 861: The Consummate Actor
First thoughts:
Comparing the picture to Big Mom, there is certainly a resemblance; they could be one in the same. Then again, they could be different. Hrmm.I wonder if the Red Wedding from Game of Thrones is something Oda has read/watched.
Even Brulee was getting her nap on.
Bege's castle power is frightening in so many ways.
-
RE: Greg: Teacher of SUPER " OP " course !
Until clarification from Oda, should we be so lucky, my three options stand.
Nothing has been offered that I haven't considered and there isn't anything new on the table.
Coincidentally it's all in how one wishes to see things.
Combined with my knowledge of the series, and how Oda avoids problematic details unless he has an answer or is in the process of cooking one up these are what I currently believe to be the most accurate explanations that cause the least issues for the story.
….fewest.
You're the first person to use "fewest" in months. It's one of my greatest grammatical pet peeves.

RE: Chapter 859: The Yonkou Assassination Plan
Nerd Mode on:
A Horkrux has a piece of the soul of the creator in it. It neither protects the user from damage nor from pain. it just makes you immortal (with or without a body), as long as the Horcrux exists. If the horcrux gets destroyed, the creator doesn't feel any changes and is not harmed by its destruction. The picture of Dorian Gray stops you from changing altogether as long as the picture exists. it stops harm (injuries, including deadly ones), aging (wrinkles, bone degradation) or any other physical changes (zombie like appearance from drug abuse, tattoos, etc), but instead the picture version of you changes with all those effects. If the picture is destroyed, the appearances and with that the physical changes swap instantly. The photo shows your healthy young appearance while the creator suddenly looks like a broken f***** up zombie, who is most certainly dead.
Respect.
I can see the form being ala Dorian Grey, but Big Mom can transfer parts of souls into objects, which functionally sounds like a Horcrux. -
RE: Chapter 859: The Yonkou Assassination Plan
@The:
So… I'm sure the theory has been mentioned, but, are we experiencing a Dorian Gray (fairy tale, guy is immortal/immune to damage, but, if the portrait he keeps of himself is damaged he recieves the same damage etc. etc) painting-type thing here with Big Mom? link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Picture_of_Dorian_Gray
Like… Capone said Big Mom has never been hurt or wounded, and the only time he saw her hurt or wounded is when the painting of this "Mother Caramel" fell over and she scrapped her knee. Could Mom's knee be scrapped/hurt from the portrait taking a bump and not Big Mom ACTUALLY scrapping it? Does the painting hold Big Mom's soul or something?
Yeah, that's my theory as well. The picture is Big Mom's Horcrux ala Harry Potter,or,as you say, Dorian Grey.
-
RE: Chapter 859: The Yonkou Assassination Plan
Hab. Some plan. Can't wait for next week.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
@Zar:
No way Luffy is destroying that photo.
I wonder who it is. Big Mom's mom? Her sister?
Anyways, I can't wait for the tea party!
Im guessing it is her "Horcrux" ala Harry Potter, especially given her powers.
-
RE: Chapter 852: The Germa Failure
A lot less worse than I thought from the spoilers.
Still hope this doesn't lead to the brothers being good so soon.
What ever suggested that might happen?
Great chapter. The tide is turning. I can't wait to find out how Oda gets our heroes out of this one. Nice to fully understand Reiju, although it comes with the burden of knowing she probably won't be living happily ever after.
-
RE: Chapter 849 - Bropper in Mirrorland
With all the pacing complains going on, I actually enjoy the speed of this arc. Much better than the Dressrosa arc pacing. Sooooo slooooooow
Amen. If I wanted long, drawn-out battles, I'd read Naruto.
-
RE: Chapter 844: Luffy vs. Sanji
yes, they had already in the past, several times actually
That's always during a comedy routine, though. I question whether in a "serious" fight it may be for keeps. Is Sabo still missing a tooth?
-
RE: Chapter 843: Vinsmoke Sanji
Thoughts on the chapter:
- Lord smoothie and Lord potato starch??? Really Oda????
- What the hell is with Big Mom's powers? She can control weather now?
- Someone pointed out to me that she may have imbued a ton of powerful souls into like a raging forest fire and a massive thunderstorm so that she could control them. Makes slight more sense…I guess?
- Luffy's insane metabolism making a comeback.
- And here we go a rehash of I can't explain my situation to you, so I'm going to act like I hate you trope. For god's sake Sanji you could have slipped them a note or something.
- Sigh…whatever Oda, hopefully you have something better in mind about where this is going
Potato Starch is Katakuriko, which sounds pretty badass.
-
RE: Chapter 842: The Power of Fullness
lol. Don't you have it in reverese? "women should stay in the kitchen" is the old cliche. At least in america.
Pretty good chapter, i wonder how far cracker was sent. That could be a plot point down the line.
Even today, in a professional kitchen chefs are only taken seriously if they are men. Women have to prove themselves far more before they are taken seriously as chefs.
-
RE: Chapter 842: The Power of Fullness
It's okay to criticise Oda for sexist stuff. But let's not kid ourselves and pretend that this is the first time that this discussion has popped up, and frankly at this point it's like beating the dead horse over and over and over again and somehow expecting a different result. Yes Oda has sexist stuff in his manga, yes he has written stupid shit, and yes it's worth discussing. But the discussion has already happened, and everyone and their mother's have given their opinion on the subject.
As Monkey King once said,"It comes with the shitty territory". Accept it and move on.
It's certainly cultural, as well. Japanese society isn't at the same point we are in reflecting on our views on sexism.
-
RE: Chapter 839: "I Shall Never Forget The Debt That I Owe You"
I'm guessing that's what he was reffering :D
Damn those Vinsmokes really like to be disliked.
I'm also guessing that Yonji and the sister will turn "good".
I'm totally not picking up what a number of you have as far as Yonji. He seems like a prick to me.
-
RE: Chapter 826: 0 and 4
@.access:
Cool chapter. I like Sanji!Nami, the younger brother not so much. How does she classify as the kid #0, though? o_O
Anyway, already found out by Germa 66 and Jinbe's crew. What a stealth mission…
Numbered names are very common for children in Japan. She is probably 0 because she is female. The numbered children are probably all sons.
-
RE: Chapter 823: Stirring World
It isn't more common in Japan when someone of lesser standing marries to a higher family to take the better family name, regardless of sex?
Granted, I've only seen it in anime (Gendo Ikari, Azami Nakiri and Youchiro Yukihara) but https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jiroemon_Kimura this dude did it as well.
Using tv tropes only to list examples: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheMaidenNameDebate
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Also Sabo's full name being Sally Sabo would be something that Ace would had made fun of.
You are exactly correct. The eldest sister of my mother-in-law, since there were no brothers, inherited, and her husband was adopted into their family in order to keep the family name intact.
-
RE: Chapter 817: Raizou Of The Mist
Didn’t the chapter spoke of the Kouzuki family ? Then what else can it be but the family name ?
And Momo was supposed to be Kinemon son, so they could only give their first nameOne Piece names have always followed Japanese format, for example, Monkey D Luffy.
-
RE: Chapter 814: Let's go see Master Nekomamushi
@.access:
I always thought Yellow Monkey sounded amazing. Now it's ruined.
That… actually makes a lot of sense. Never thought about it that way :| hmm...
Now I am curious about that too. It's actually pretty interesting. Because names are formed with kanji, it's common when meeting someone for the first time to ask them how they write their names, because similar sound can often be many different kanji and meanings. This tells me that Japanese are often considering the meaning of names, and would certainly explain why Oda puts so much meaning into most of his characters' names: This is often to make a joke or reveal something about the character.
-
RE: Chapter 812: Capone "Gang" Bege
@Lady:
That too, but I think collectively they did not want to fight there, better to get dragged off somewhere and improvise. And well we already know that was the right choice.
Haha I've got this feeling that he'll just play some kind of mental jujitsu on us. We expect him to reverse expectations, but really he'll just stick to the same formula and pair him up with an absolute Beast. But I hope you're right.
It might be interesting if he's completely infatuated.

RE: Chapter 811 : Roko
@Don:
Iam glad the encounter with BM wasn´t just the hype the situation back in Dressrosa…now it bears finally importance.
BM means "bowel movement". ;)
-
RE: Chapter 808 - Duke Inuarashi
Jack being a zoan kind of begs the question of whether he is a smile user. If so I wonder if his drought ability stems from the smile in some way.
It looks like the SMILE troops just get partial animal features…it showed that guy with a crab claw and the others in that frame have just parts.
-
RE: Chapter 807: 10 Days Ago
Day and night just is broken into those active during the day and nocturnal animals.
-
RE: 3 Mangapanda bootleggers arrested
@Long:
Dude would get props lol, because criminals read illegally
In Japan, everyone just stands in the convenience store and reads it there without buying, anyway.
-
RE: Chapter 806: At the Fortress of Left Stomach
Maybe Violet had Riku pull some strings to get Sanji to be only taken alive.
-
RE: Chapter 806: At the Fortress of Left Stomach
The "kun" is because she considers him like a child.
This is not cold though, is Sanji cold to Nami because he always adress her with -San? More like a trademark.Kun is just a common suffix for males of a similar or lower age than.you
-
RE: Chapter 806: At the Fortress of Left Stomach
Did anyone spot the ninja?
-
RE: Chapter 804: An Adventure on the Back of an Elephant
Above the gate appears to read, "Mokom Dukedom".
-
RE: Chapter 804: An Adventure on the Back of an Elephant
EXCELLENT insight. @BingBang:
The White Whale is the symbol of Whitebeard's pirate. So the conection here is clear. Maybe this was Whitebeard's home turf!
-
RE: Chapter 803: Climbing the elephant
Thanks. It's nice if this could be added to the OP. @KageKageKing:
Reminder: No chapter this week.
-
RE: Chapter 799: Parent & Child
Dragon is going to show up next chapter, probably.
-
RE: Chapter 799: Parent & Child
If Luffy truly wants to be the Pirate King, then he's going to need subordinates. While a kneejerk, "no you can't be my subordinates," feels like something Luffy would say, I think he also knows that this is an important step towards that goal.
-
RE: Chapter 798: Heart
The blood donations will be the reason they get away. Fujitora donated. We have already seen normal marines collapse…
-
RE: Chapter 798: Heart
Don't forget that all the marines gave their blood for manshellys healing. They're airway collapsing from it. Fujitora will also be affected by this. There's not gonna be a battle. He's already exerted himself lifting all the rubble.
-
RE: Chapter 788: "My Fight"
I can see why Sabo, Burgess and Fuji don't stop Dofla but at this point, it shouldn't be too hard for Zoro to land the finishing blow.
I don't think Zoro would poach Luffy's claimed foe.
-
Live Action Drama Featuring Animated Luffy and Gomu Gomu no Mi
Did anyone post about this yet? Last week, there was a short live action drama that sees a yakuza eat the Gomu Gomu no MI, later befriending Luffy and pulling off some Luffy-style moves himself. In it is a Roger Rabbit style interaction between him and Luffy. I'll post the link here when my wife gets home.
http://onepiecepodcast.com/2015/03/10/monkey-d-luffy-and-abe-hiroshi-to-perform-together-in-tv-series/ -
RE: Chapter 770: Elbaf's Spear
Luffy taking the hit was entirely in character. Bellamy is his friend, and would have died of Luffy took him out.
All these side characters in the fight are going to become subordinates under the Mugiwara flag after this arc. This is the start of Luffy building a power base in the new world.
-
RE: Chapter 762: The White Town
Wow. This is Oda's social commentary on Fukushima and how Japan's government has left the inhabitants of the region without assistance. The repercussions will be passed on to future generations.
