      Just curious, if this is from a Blu-ray, shouldn't it be 1080p?

      @DarthEnder:

      Goddamn, I swear the prices of the One Piece DVDs are going back UP.

      Pain in the ass.

      Does Amazon have some kind of feature where I mark a product to be watched and when the price on it comes down, I get an email or something?

      http://camelcamelcamel.com/

      Actually if you see a good price, but don't have enough money to buy it say that week, try adding it to your cart and then click Save to Buy Later.

      I JUST bought a new 37" HDTV and the price was going up and down randomly. I saved it in my cart when it was $565. It seemingly ran out of stock and went up in price from their other outlets/merchants. But a week later, even though the 565 Price wasn't listed at all, I STILL got it for that price since I saved it in my cart. Go me!

      Just reading the past pages about K-F. Damn! They sure changed into a bunch of douchebags. To think I actually respected them at one time. I remember when they said they'd be happy to give up subbing if someone bought and released the series uncut here. But then that was a long time ago in the "dark age" of One Piece fandom (IE 4Kids on the air, relicensing looked next to impossible). I guess it was just an empty promise when an official Uncut release looked impossible. And when the series DID get released, I thought it was understandable that they wanted to continue releasing Water 7/Enies Lobby episodes especially since I found them better than Gerusama.

      I'm surprised they have the gall to insult Funimation when they use their awkward Nakama translations. Even back in the beginning I remember thinking how strange it sounded for Luffy to be going around saying "I want her/him to be my crewmate" and then Funi's official release comes out and it's "I want him to join my crew". Is it really that hard? That sounds so much better!

      And of course I think their Binks' Sake translation towers over fan efforts (no offence to the likes of Yibis which I find far better than K-F) and certainly doesn't give off a "Speed Sub" vibe, that's just plain Ass-talking.

      Anyway, yeah just had to pop in and say that

      Just out of curiosity, what are the chances that HD Raws might be ripped from these? Don't get me wrong, if Funimation brought these out here, I'd buy them first thing (hell I wouldn't mind importing and watching the likes of Movie 6 RAW), but as it stands right now, porting K-F's subs to an HD Raw and converting it to a PS3 friendly format would sure be an awesome substitute before official BDs hit.

      = Actually, if I remember, I don't think movies 1-5 looked all that spectacular on DVD color-wise.

      Movie 5 had some amazing color to it. As flimsy as the plot was, the backgrounds were just incredible. The lush jungles and the eerie night sky toward the end of the movie would look spectacular on Blu-Ray.

      The steep price for the first three movies is messed up. Aren't they only like 45 minutes or something. Maybe Funi at least will have some kind of triple feature disc or something.

      You don't have to DL the Ep, just see if you can get the Download to come up. I wana know if they tightened Security properly.

      If we can still get the eps, we need to contact FUNi about it.

      Well I don't know EXACTLY how some of those other people did it, but before I could just use FlashGot and download the FLV, now it's not even possible, the most I could get are the quick ads. I'm sure it might be possible with more work, but it's definitely not as quick and easy as before.

      I never thought I'll see the day of Rob Mungle to be in a Funimation show. Nice choice of him to be Immgram. He was Pedro in Excel Saga and the Gay Landlord on Milk Chan.

      I mostly know him as Kunikaida from Blue Seed and Goat Hori from Nadesico, two "classic" Animes I cherish. And yeah, I always thought he was one of those guys who would always do ADV stuff, but I guess with the economy and the fact that ADV is doing next to nothing right now, the guy's gotta make a living.

      But yeah, I had to look him up to be sure and when I realized who that was, all I can say is "HELL YEAH, FUNI! Good choice!" I don't even need to see a clip, I KNOW he would make a great Igaram.

      Anyway, I still need to get S14V for my little brother, and I'm going to go see him in a few weeks, so I'll probably just pick up a copy of both S14V and S21V for him and pick up my copy later.

      lol she even got a eyecatch like the rest of the straw hats. I really did think Vivi was going to become a straw hat. was hella surprised when she didn't and instead it was robin. epic plot twist there.

      Can't stand Vivi btw. bitches and cries too much about how weak she is and has to rely on others to tell her otherwise. Glad Oda has become a better writer since then.

      Now see this is what bugs me about it. People are so quick to say she's such a whiner. I mean it's so easy to say she's whining over nothing, but you lack the empathy to see it from her view. She's a young, kind princess, raised in luxury in a peaceful kingdom when all of a sudden things go straight to hell. Does she mope around? No, she takes initiative! She's 14 years old! No combat experience, and she joins a ruthless criminal organization to set things right!

      Just because Vivi's not as strong as Luffy and the others doesn't make her a bad character. In that final act, it's just bad thing after bad thing after bad thing, and all she is is a normal 16 year old princess, that at best, is a little athletic, hardly a warrior. I think that contrast between Crocodile and Vivi was spot on Dixxy. Playing Chrono Trigger DS recently (I'm still convinced Oda based Vivi off Schala) now there's a princess who couldn't stop whining.

      Anyway, sorry for going off on that tangent. Man that clip is such a tease. Vic would make such a great Brook!

      Didn't see any thread, so I figured I'd make one since I know people love Movie 6. I've been hooked on his films since that and watching The Girl Who Leapt Through Time.

      From ANN

      The light-hearted "action entertainment" story revolves around a modern-day family on a midsummer adventure. Bizarre occurrences spring up around the world, due to the intersections between reality and another world named Oz. At the behest of their 90-year-old grandmother, the family members must work together to save mankind. The film will open in Japan this summer.

      @Ivotas:

      I don't know for anyone else but I know that I had at least half a dozen times the "this can't be what they are really saying" feeling while watching the sub.

      Pretty much. It's so confusing I just prefer watching it RAW.

      But also, in their softsub script they forgot to sub the attack names (not so bad with Luffy+Co who you know by heart, but newcomer Mushul). I think they must've tried copying their Hardsub script over, and the Fancy attack simply didn't. Like copying a forum post but forgetting the hyperlinks.

      I'm so insistant, not only because it's a good movie that deserves a solid sub, but with an official Funi release nowhere in sight, I'd really like to use the raw + script to burn a watchable DVD. My mom in New Zealand has been wanting to see what the fuss with One Piece is all about, she's watched some of the Funi DVDs I've sent my little brother, but everyone knows the series starts out rather slow and uninteresting to most. Also, my brother, who doesn't have the best connection for downloading episodes would like to see it too. I'm visiting them in July. I might just take a crack at editing Nakama Fansubs' script in a more Ybis/Funi-like fashion and do that, but there's still phrases in there that confuse the hell out of me.

      I can assure you that the person involved in this release is only involved in the later stages of the release cycle. Our encoder isn't needed for TLC, Attack FX, Editing, etc. so he's on standby until we need him. As you know, we're pretty behind, and it was April 1st, so this was the result. The actual fansubbing is moving along at a decent speed as we're getting past the translation stage in all of them; a group of episodes should reach the editing and typesetting stages pretty soon, meaning they will be ready for release in the near future. I guess I didn't really need to say this here, but I figured there would be a lot of people like you wondering why we're wasting our time on an April Fools troll when we're about 10 episodes behind.

      I'm still hoping for you guys to fix your Movie 9 translation.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if we're getting one of those. I mean with how "meh" the sales were for UA, it'd be significantly cheaper to produce, and not to mention please many of the fans who still prefer Japanese Audio. Wow just saw the episode, but then saw this debate going on and thought I'd see this documentary everybody was talking about…

      @Demon:

      I also think that Honoriffics and Japanese name order should be kept, but only if the offending series takes place in Japan or is clearly Japanese-Influenced.
      However, for a series like Hellsing (the one I fansub) it makes Zero sense for ANYTHING Japanese to be present, as the series takes place in Europe, only one of the Characters is Japanese (Yumiko "Yumie" Takagi) and she has maybe 3 or 4 lines in the whole series.
      Which is why that Documentary is my fansubbing bible

      Yeah I agree, it's also how I decide whether I want to see a series, subbed or dubbed. I remember a long time ago seeing ANOTHER debate like this and the person said pretty much the opposite. Something along the lines of "The translation should reflect the culture of its origin." Something like that. And it's that way of thinking why I prefer simple honorifics (nothing WAY overboard though like the fansubs he mentioned). It's the same idea why I think certain attack names (Street Fighter being a good example) should be left untranslated (I'm surprised he didn't talk about towns being left untranslated). I mean when I did my fan resub of Time Bokan for TvC fans I took the original DVD subtitles, fixed some of the grammar and translated names, added honorifics, but I avoided extensive notation (only the one instance where I added the note about Yatterwan being a play on both "One" and "Wan!" (which is a dog bark) because I just didn't think it would work if I translated it one way and not the other. Also I kept Doronbo's signature "Pochitona!" and "Ara hora sa sei" Not just because there're really no way to translate that into English, but because they're phrases unique to those characters. I wanted to sub it the way I like my subs. Simple, but not completely abolishing the Japanese origin, which would essentially make them "Dubtitles" otherwise. If I wanted to have the "same experience with my own language" I'd watch a dub. Subs and dubs should NOT be the same thing. And THAT'S what I disagree with on that documentary.

      But yeah, even though he comes off a little strong in his whole "Back in MY day Anime wasn't so 'Japanese-y' when I think the culture is simply different today. I do see where he's coming from. I mean as I said in another topic, I want to take Nakama-Fansubs' softsub of Movie 9, and I want to try to edit it into a "Casual Sub" as much as possible so that I can burn it to a DVD and be able to show it to co-workers as well as my Mom who I'm visiting in a few months (unless Funi makes a miraculous announcement of Movie 9 sometimes this year). I want her (and other people) to experience how great One Piece is, but I know it would be a major disruption if I had to explain every little thing in the subtitles (What's Nakama?, etc), so I wanted to add as few TL Notes as possible.

      Anywayyyy about the episode itself. Well if my Time Bokan example isn't obvious (as that how would sub a series moreorless) I really do like your simplistic sub. You still use fancy fonts for things like the intro, but it's not too flashy and doesn't detract from the viewing more than subtitles should. I also like how it's MKV with toggable subtitles. Great for if I want to make a few screen captures, and I don't have to worry about losing my sub file on accident. I only think honorfics should be added, that's it, not a big deal, just a personal opinion.

      Aaand more on the episode itself. I could tell Pappagg's voice is the same as Genzo's, but I was really curious about Caimie's voice and was really suprised it was Ms. Haruna Ikezawa (Best known to KoF fans like me as Athena Asamiya) herself! Wow!

      But I was curious what's the significance of her adding Chi/chin to character names?

      Sorry to bump this back up, but I didn't think it was necessary to make a whole new topic. I was waiting for a softsub from someone like Vegapunk, but then I noticed NF actually released a softsub for it which is great because I'd like to use DVDFlick to make a DVD copy I can easily show to friends and family (until Funi's official DVD release comes out). I definitely want to "Funi-size" some of the terms to make it more of a "Casual sub" than a "Fan sub" where I have to explain things like Nakama. But also, it seems like in copying your script from your Hardsub over, you forgot to copy over the attack names from fancy effects to just text. But also I was hoping someone could explain the scene where Dalton is explaining Mushul to Usopp and Robin, because it's worded so strangely, I could hardly make anything out.

      10 years ago…
      It was when Mushul was 13 years old.
      In order to be acknowledged as a member of the society,
      during the time the previous king was away from the country, he took the same course of action as this time.
      He fired one shot from the castle's cannon and caused a great number of victims.
      He wanted to "test out his ability".
      For such a reason!
      The king that returned, as a way to apologize to the citizens, exiled Mushul from the country.
      It was from then on,
      that it became the way to cure the effect of the bomb.
      But how did he do something like that in one explosion?!
      The Noko Noko no Mi.
      The worst ability!
      A Fatal Bomb man.
      For the stomach to endure the persistent irritation of the Mode Cloudy,
      it seems that it's possible to release it as a bomb, but…

      If he shoots it, it will be bad, huh?
      If it's even right to say, it's the worst misfortune.
      On the appointed day, the wind was strong and a huge part of the town was completely wiped out beyond rescue.
      That was 20 years ago…
      If he's been let free, he'll use his exploding ability to release the poison again.

      I know he's trying to explain his ability, but with how it's worded I have a hard time following what his ability actually IS. The words I bolded are the parts where I simply said "WHAT ARE THEY TALKING ABOUT!?"

      Aside from that it's just getting all the kinks in the english dialog to make it flow a little better. But if anyone can help me out with this passage of dialog, I'd appreciate it.

Although I'll add that Greg mentioned that Movie 9 is the first OP movie that was (is?) up for a Japanese Oscar. So that's saying something.

I wasn't too thrilled with her Kuina, but I guess being a fan of Shin-chan, I heard her Kuina as "snooty Ai chan" which felt off. If she sounds anything like her "Nyamo" in Azumanga Daioh, she should be okay, but I have the feeling this will be far from a personal favorite in the supporting Funi cast.

      Edit: Thinking of Azumanga Daioh made me remember that Nyamo's Japanese VA = Lola, and that Ms. Rial would be a splendid choice. Of course we're talking a casting that won't take place for a good few years ^^;;;

      @Buuhan1:

      Movie 8 in terms of animation and art didn't seem that rushed to me.

      The colors were bright and vibrant. At best, I thought, it looked on par with a recent TV episode. Compared to the other movies' production values it really falls short (not to mention the reused music, albeit great music but still reused) And as far as poor animation, two words "Uso-Cho Hammer". Seriously that whole scene looked like it was 5 frames of animation. And just for reference TV Anime is generally around 15 fps, American Animation = 24 fps, Theatrical productions of any origin generally fall between 24 and 30. It would've been okay for a TV Special but I found some parts like the Mr 4/Ms MC fight just shameful looking.

      Just my opinion though, I know people are really quick to bash Movie 8 when some people like it. More power to ya!

      @EvilGamerX:

      Should check out number 6. Just awesome.

      As for the comment about the animation being superb due to a 9 month longer wait, I would say it depends more on Oda getting done what he needs to.

      While I am excited, I am trying to keep in mind that to my knowledge, this is the first time Oda is doing something like this. We'll find out in a year.

      Very true, but the extra time is certainly not going to hurt. I'm sure Toei are going to want "Oda's Movie" to look as good as it can. At the very least it's not going to looked rushed like Movie 8.

      HOT DAMN!

      If they're actually spending a whole extra 9 months that means the Animation quality will hopefully be above and beyond the others. Of course with Oda doing the whole thing, I don't know about canon, but I'm sure it certainly won't have that "Filler" feel of the other movies.

      New gameplay video with a very familiar VA 👅

      btw if anyone's interested, I'm working on a Pseudo-Fansub of the Time Bokan OVA for people who've always wanted to see it (as the best you can find is Chinese Subbed versions pieced together on YT) since it seems appropriate for the release of this game ^_^

      I just remembered Gally made an appearance in Episode 48 in Loguetown where he gets beaten up by Smoker. Here's a fun comparison I made just for kicks

      Episode 48

      !

      Jump Special

      !

      The Loguetown version looks taller, something you can't quite see in my screens. Their VAs are completely different too. (not that I was expecting them to dig up the original VA or anything.

      Also, speaking of VAs, anyone have a cast list for these specials yet, I'm curious who voiced Silk and Gally.

      Wow I'm really curious how they found the original FLV file and were able to rip it. I'm going to download the torrents and convert them to MP4s. I prefer that format myself.

      Yeah I'm going to try and wait for a rip of the OP special, I have a FIOS connection that's blazing fast, and it kept stuttering for me.

      I watched the DBZ special via Youtube and is it just me or does Nami's VA do ChiChi? 0_o (Maybe because it's been ages since I've watched the Japanese version and was never too fond of it. Yes I know about Goku/Goten/Gohan's VA being Kureha and Krillin's being Luffy)

      Yeah I REALLY hope they're not sticking with those. Kinda makes me wonder if they're going to at least offer a subbed version if they went through all the trouble or making an English site and forcing people to use their own browser free of any kind of video grabbers.

      Don't know if they'll close it off to Japanese viewers only like Showtime.jp does, but I'm sure someone will be able to get it eventually.

      So I assume someone's ready to record the episodes for the rest of us? Someone like Cartoon-World. And is Chibi-Goku still around?

      Wow! Now I remember hearing about how Grand Battle on the PS1 was released in Europe, it COULD be something like that. Who knows though. Still, even if is, it'll be much easier to import than importing the Japanese version.
