Vivi's been gone long enough that her power could literally be anything. We have no idea what she did in those 2 years, maybe her and Kohza trained with each other every day or something. If Vivi needs to be strong enough to deal with actual threats then she will be.

As for Carrot we'll see in the next chapter whether it happens or not. I would like it to as I would like an ew crew member, but we'll see. One thought I did have though is that Carrot does have another reason to join now. She's been asked to be King but she clearly seemed hesitant about it, although not totally against it. The idea that people had for Momo - going out to sea to become stronger and learn how to be a true leader - could be used for Carrot instead. And with one of the themes of the next saga absolutely being what it means to be a King (Pirate King, Im, Vivi, Revolutionaries) this could track. But next chapter will decide that.

The idea with Lucky is that if he was selfish and played for himself then he would probably be the best musician out of all of them. But he got so influenced by outside sources as a child that he began playing exclusively to make others happy and it made him worse. Sorachika wants him to go back to being the selfish version becuase he believes Lucky is holding himself back but Lucky doesn't want that because he doesn't want to become something he thinks is uncareing / unkind (like his father).

I rather enjoyed Artur's deep dive into the Greek/Roman roots of the planet's names, as well as the Japanese interpretations of them. Perhaps it's more obvious what Imu represents than we once thought....

I think Imu's been pretty obvious since the start. It's literally Umi (sea) backwards and the ultimate enemy of devil fruit users is the sea. People have also theorized for a long time about an enemy that could potentially control water - would make sense for the final big bad.

I wonder if a previous user of the Ope Ope fruit helped with Vegapunk's operation, given that his bodies are still interconnected and his head is open.

That's very unlikely. It looks like Vegapunk still had his big head when Caesar blew up Punk Hazard, and by the time that happened Law already had the Ope Ope Fruit.

Gonna take the opportunity to copy a truth bomb about Deku and MHA's writing.

Reading all of this really puts it into perspective. I really wish Deku had an actual encounter with Stain during the Dark Deku arc because Stain is a really good counter to Deku, as both look up to All Might and both have the same ideals on what it means to be a hero, but go in complete opposite ways to achieve that. It would've been great, but I guess Horikoshi just wanted to begin wrappin up the story.

    • RE: Post-Wano plotline roundup: Big Mom

If Big Mom goes down here then I am fine with it, although I feel like given her speech at the end she should come back somehow. I think she was handled pretty well outside of the convieniant amnesia at the start. I think it was important that someone besides Luffy took down an emperor of the sea and this was a good way of making sure it was off-screen. She was also very intimidating throughout the raid, more so than Kaidou a lot of the time.

Her crew on the other hand was handled really badly. Perospero is fine but I still don't understand why he even needed to be here. and the rest of the crew not being able to get onto the island was just silly.

    • RE: Chapter 1071: The Hero Deploys

The more I think about it, the more I think a some of the events in this chapter are Oda misdiretions.

      • Oda makes it look like Kuma has returned to the government but I think the truth is he crashed into the Red Line because it's too tall to fly overand all this has done is delay him and make the Marines aware of his actions.

      • Oda makes the dome go down which makes readers feel like there is a possible traitor in the midst, but there are plenty of reasons it could've happened. Maybe Caribou or Brook did something by accident or maybe that new mystery person needed it to go down so he could enter? I don't think one of the Punks will be a traitor.

    • RE: Next Straw Hat Crewmates (Vol. 9 - Yamato vs. The World)

Yeah I'm pretty sure Vivi is the only one left. With the cliffhanger from this week, I suspect the next few chapters will be letting us know what happened at the Reverie from Sabo's perspective (including revealing who really killed Cobra) and the reveal at the end will be that Vivi is with Sabo. But the reason Sabo hasn't gone back to the Revolutionaries is that he's actually going to see Luffy (using the vivre card he made of him in Dressrosa) and taking Vivi with him (maybe at her request, we'll have to see).

Given Sabo is Luffy and Ace's brother (and Vivi is one of the few cahracter to actually meet Ace) I reckon she would trust him and potentially reveal her connection to the Straw Hats to him.

    • RE: The next arc: what will it be?

      There are three options imo.

      • 1: a brand new island we have never seen and it's where Vegapunk is located. Like people have said, his hometown had a winter climate and Punk Hazard's lab was on the wintr side (although it shouldn't have been that when Vegapunk was actually there).
      • 2: Kaidou's favourite island. We don't have a name for it but it's th one from the Caribou cover story. No clue if Scotch is still there but it was also a winter island, is close to Wano, and Caribou already played a role there and has connections to it, so him being here now could be important. It also had its own revolutionaries who may or may not be connected to Dragon.
      • 3: It's the unnamed Winter Island where Ace met Shanks. It's possible it is a part of Shank's territory and may have been the island he just came from when he passed by Wano. I don't think we have a name for it.

The first two seem more likely to me but I want to throw the third one out there as an option.

    • RE: Greg: Teacher of SUPER " OP " course !

I think for the off-board crew idea it really does depend on intention. Kyros, Paulie and Kinemon - none of them have any desire to actually go and travel with the Straw Hars right now and are content with living on their islands.

An argument could be made for Momo but the story sems to imply that his first priority is to stay on Wano and be Shogun rather than go out to sea with Luffy. That's why he asks Luffy and co to stay on Wano rather than asking to go with them. This is different enough from Vivi who would love to continue travelling with the Straw Hats but knew that she had to stay behind and help look after her kingdom. She couldn't abandon the kingdom and so had to leave the crew. So she fits the off-board crew definition a it more (and I think other factors that only Vivi and Carue have, like actually being treated as crew members during the Baroque Works saga by both Oda, the anime and merch, work in their favour).

Yamato and Tama defo have off-crew status though. Both want to travel with Luffy, Luffy has accepted them both, ut both have some kind of issue preventing them from getting on the ship at this point in time (protecting Wano and training). They'll almost certainly join post-series but for now, they are almost certainly 'off-board' crew members.

Yo what? I was not expecting this at all.

My guess is that the Dad is the only one without amnesia and works for some company trying to figure out whatever secret this family has. I don't know why the son is the one that needs to do it though... an interesting development for sure.

Maybe I'm misremembering but wasn't it said that Zed got his arm cut off by a former Warlord? I think I remember that being a thing and a lot of people speculating it would've been the new warlord at the time, until that turned out to be Weevil. I don't think we have a clear indicator on who that Warlord was.

Gear 5 Luffy was probably the funnest thing last year, and Wano ending was the best thing last year lol

The Yamato fake-out was easily the worst thing of last year though. So many years of leading readers on and we don't even get to find out why Yamato didn't join until a few chapters after the fact in an awkward flashback.

    • RE: Let's talk about Garp, before it's too late

Garp's great and if we ever get a One Piece spin-off series I hope it's about him.

I think it's clear that Garp's motivation has always been to protect people. Unlike Luffy, who doesn't want to be a hero, Garp does. He became a Marine to make things better for people, even before the Great Pirate Era, but he never got to the same extreme that Akainu did partly because of his personality and because of Roger. Garp and Roger clearly had respect for one another and Garp is aware that not all criminals are actually bad people. Equally, he also knows that that the World Government and Marines aren't always the paragons of good. he's aware that the Celestial Dragons are just as evil as the pirates, but unlike the pirates Garp can't do anything about it. I'm sure whatever motivated Dragon to start the Revolutionary Army is also something that Garp has seen, but by that point he was the symbol of the Marines. It's hero. And with that position comes responsibility that he can't just abandon for his own needs.

Garp's stuck between being a symbol to the generations of Marines below him like Aokiji and Coby, and his own personal life and feelings - being able to support his family and disaproving of the Celestial Dragons. That's why he takes control whenever he can, chosing to remain a Vice Admiral because if he was an Admiral it would mean he would have to directly serve the Celestial Dragons, and he doesn't want that. Now in the post-TS, where Akainu refuses to let him retire and his work has cost him his grandson he just doesn't care as much anymore. He goes by his own flow now. I think he also clearly respected Sengoku more than he does Akainu. I'm not sure pre-TS Garp would go out on his own to attack Blackbard like he's about to do.
