The music especially, has me smitten.

RE: Kaiba
Episode 3 was the best one, from an emotionally involving pov. But I liked episode 4 a lot too. The storytelling was pretty awesome in that one.

RE: Hunter x Hunter
I won't deny Togashi is dragging things out; but maybe this way it's easier for him to keep writing at a steadier pace than before. (best proof of this is the amount of spreads he's done since v25)
Also, dragged out as it may be; I'm having a blast reading it. I can't remember when I've experienced shit as epic in shounen manga as HxH's last couple of volumes. The problem with other series; when they start to drag, it's usually due to pressure from the editors. I can't imagine Togashi ever caring what an editor thinks. If it's dragging right now, it's because HE wants it to.
-
RE: Hunter x Hunter
I agree. In no way is this comparable with the boring dreck that's been Bleach in the Hueco Mundo arc.
Shit's just hella cool in HxH right now. -
RE: Mx0
That said…I'm surprised ocean said he hated it, but that might explain why barbapapa doesn't like it as well. I was seriously going to PM you guys when I first started Mx0 with loads of love when I noticed KEFI took it on as a project, and I am still grateful you did something like the first volume.
It was started in an age where I still liked shounen manga a lot; and it seemed fun at first. I mean for crying out loud, I even worked on To-Love-Ru at the start of my scanlating career. (why the hell is that piece of dung not cancelled yet)

RE: Hunter x Hunter
3 months has been the regular span of breaks, having it return in September is just 1 month extra. Maybe the extra month is to give Togashi enough time to create a proper ending…

RE: Manga You Want to Become an Anime?
- Boku to Issho
Impossible to do without an immense budget:
- The World Is Mine
Should have happened a long time ago:
- Rookies
- Rokudenashi Blues
Should have had more:
- Piano no Mori
- Firefighter Daigo

RE: Fairy Tail
I have to say, I've been mildly disinterested in Fairy Tail ever since this new arc started… I'm still reading it every week; but it just seems like Hiro Mashima isn't too skilled at giving the supposedly epic parts much weight.
-
RE: Greatest manga author….
Compared to the commercial juggernaught of shonen yes. But you can't tell me that they don't have the same pressure.
Aklso it seems as if your saying Vagabond had reason to end by this point? lol if that's true.I'm not saying it had reason to end. It just could've been more condensed.
There's pressure, but definitely not on the same level. For one, there's no anime adaption/merchandise to boost manga sales. All of it's just on a smaller scale.
For example, Berserk sold 23 million books on 32 volumes (we all know how big Berserk is). Naruto sold 82 million on 42 books. That was an amazing scene. What was your problem with it?
I thought it was sleep-inducing.[/personal opinion]

RE: Greatest manga author….
Oh seinen?
It dosen't drag at all next to Berserk or god forbid, Gantz.
Even Lone Wolf and Cub beat around the bush legendarily.
And seinen dosen't exist in a vacuum. Why shouldn't I compare it to mangas that aren't seinen?Seinen, in general, have less pressure to keep going once they're popular. As opposed to shonen manga.
But naturally, there are exceptions like 20 CB, Vagabond, Gantz, and Berserk. I don't like any of those (well, I used to like 20CB, but it turned to crap).Anyway, Vagabond isn't a bad manga at all. It's very well drawn in a conventional way, but it all felt pretty empty to me. I mean c'mon, that part where Musashi was sitting next to that old, supposedly legendary, samurai geezer. ZZZ
Takehiko Inoue just doesn't "ring my bell", as much as others. -
RE: Best/worst Anime adaption
Best:
Monster, Hanada Shounen-shi
Both directed by Masayuki Kojima, the only man capable of adapting a manga perfectly (sometimes even making it better).Worst:
Too much. I guess Eyeshield was pretty awful, yeah. -
RE: Greatest manga author….
How can you compare Vagabond with any shonen manga?
It should go by the laws of seinen, so it has no excuse for dragging (which it definitely does). Oh wait I forgot, it's hella popular. -
RE: Greatest manga author….
Makoto Isshiki (Piano no Mori, Hanada Shounen-shi)
Naoki Yamamoto (Believers, Arigatou, Asatte Dance)
Minoru Furuya (Ciguatera, Boku to Issho, Himizu) -
RE: Hunter x Hunter
Art looks a little awesome imo.
And by that I mean hella awesome. -
RE: What's up with all the negativity towards Bleach?
Renji, now there's a character who I've always found to be legendary dull. Much like Hitsugaya, Grimmjow, Byakuya and just about any character that can be considered "popular" in Bleach.
tips glass to the Chads of the world
Actually, that accounts for most of Bleach's problems. Too much emphasis on pretty and cool.
At least in One Piece, ugly morrons like Usopp get their spot in the limelight; god bless his soul. -
RE: What's up with all the negativity towards Bleach?
Even the art isn't that spectacular anymore.
The character designs have just become lazy, and it's becoming more and more obvious 90% of them are ONLY there for the mangaka to vent his artistic frustrations. And even if I'm not a fan of shounen fighting, there's N-O-T-H-I-N-G inventive about them that could make me turn a blind eye. When you consider this shit is 90% fights… yeah. Go figure.
There was a time I really liked Bleach. But it just became too painful, and ridiculous to read. In comparison, Naruto ain't even that bad anymore :/

So, turns out Gerald is Sieglein then?
chinese raw over at www.fairytail.fr -
RE: Fairy Tail
Lol, I can't believe you guys can't tell the difference between anime and colourings of manga pages.

RE: (10th Anniversary) One Piece: Treasures Scans
You have my thanks as well for the Robin scan by the P2 mangaka.
-
RE: Hunter x Hunter
Actually whenever volumes of Hunter x Hunter go on sale, they easily outsell anything else in Jump besides One Piece.
-
RE: Hunter x Hunter
I agree that the entire NGL thing did feel random at first and only started to get readable about halfway. But it does get better once you're used to the unusual setting. The only thing that'll ever beat the Shin York arc is when it goes back to Kuroro, Hisoka, and the Spiders in general to tie up all the loose ends that were left.

RE: 666 Satan Anime?
Haha, yeah that's exactly the impression I got from Jio's character design too.
Though he grew on me, or should I say my inner child. -
RE: 666 Satan Anime?
I like 666 Satan, in a sort of distasteful way. It's nothing but a guilty pleasure sprung from my love for old school Toriyama stuff.
Whether it's actually a good series, I won't say. But heck, if you enjoy this genre now and then, and are bored. Sure, it's worth being animated as much as any other shounen manga.Even if it does seem uninspired at first, at least it gets better and 666 Satan doesn't fall for a lot of the usual shounen traps such as: power levels, new and more powerful villains showing up every time, dragging, angst etc.
It's simple, and fun. The designs are neat and the action is fast-paced and satisfying. Just don't expect too much of it and you'll get some enjoyment out of it. (though I have to question what kind of person expects to be enlightened by a shounen; par from a few exceptions)

RE: Trigun Maximum draws to a close… (spoilers)
Oh, so it's finally ending. I heard from several people that it beat around the bush a lot with tons of meaningless fights. I myself have no idea, I tried reading the manga but couldn't get into it back in the days when I finished the anime. Which I loved.
I might give it another chance seeing how it's ending. Though it's being scanlated by Max7… shivers -
RE: Post All-Inclusive Things About Brooke In Here
I cant believe I'm saying this but… its not impossible to see him join permanently.
I mean, who expected Robin to join after Alabasta? -
RE: Do Manga-Ka's have it easier the second time around?
I'll say this. Once a mangaka peaks, its hard to recreate that.
Which explains why Rurouni Kenshin, which was a great hit, couldnt be followed up by other decent series.
This also explains Hiro Mashima. He didnt get really good until the end of RAVE and the start of Fairy Tail. So depending on how long FT might go on, he could start running out of steam past his peak. The only real exceptions imo, are truly talented mangaka. People like Takehiko Inoue, Eiichiro Oda. Who have shown that they are capable of going beyond the status of a simple shounen mangaka.

RE: So, is Ace Shanks son ?
I think this actually makes a lot of sense. Why else would Shanks almost beg Whitebeard to keep Ace from fighting Blackbeard.

[qimg]http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/912/1169032754825tl7.th.jpg[/qimg]Found on 2chan. Sexy stuff, but I wonder what's the story behind it since Lucy looks nervous. At least this confirms Gray and Natsu aren't gay (damn fangirls…)
The fangirls didnt start that, e1n did xD

RE: Monster
One thing I can say is that; at one point 20th Century Boys showed enough potential to completely blow Monster away. But after all said and done, it just didn't. And I consider Monster a tighter experience.
-
RE: Untitled
Speaking of the manga, that will end next week in issue #6 of Shonen Sunday.
So it'll probably have 26 volumes in total. -
RE: Fairy Tail
Hmm yknow thats a good point, I dont think we've got our irc address solicitated anywhere on the main page.
Anyway, it's #KEFI @ irc.irchighway.net -
RE: Claymore Anime Adaption Announced
I'll probably check this out; I somewhat enjoy the manga even though I'm not into this genre.
-
RE: Fairy Tail
Well I haven't bought volume 1 (I was about to), but my guess for fairy tail, probably either like 7-8 chapters. The first 3 chapters were long, so it won't defintely be 9-11 like other volumes.
Actually most starting volumes only have 7-8 chapters. So Fairy Tail v1, like oceanizer said, will probably have 5-6 chapters.

RE: Stephen's other projects.
after that last Noramimi chapter, I think me and clicky are about ready to start up a Simple Baron fanclub.
-
RE: Highschool of the Dead
It's hard to take this seriously because of the poor English. And the page where he decided to put that text is just a terrible/funny choice.
Almost seems like the mangaka's making a joke :P -
RE: Best Anime of 2006
I just love how one little 4 letter word caused all these reactions.

RE: Best Anime of 2006
i enjoyed akagi but i don't know the rules of mahjong at all, so it ruined it all…
nana is of course brilliant, black lagoon too.
to people who don't like haruhi: what's the point of calling it "shit" just because you don't like it? do you feel bad because so much people caught the great stuff in it and you didn't? just say you don't like it dammit, stop your "it's shit! it's the worst anime ever!". it's simply childish.
Saying "its shit" or "I dont like it", to me its just the same thing.
If you can't understand that its just one man's opinion; well… that's just your problem. I won't lose any sleep over it. -
RE: Best Anime of 2006
shakes head
I'm getting this from a One Piece scanslator, no less?
Yes.
Did you even watch the show or just listen to hear-say?
I watched it halfway.
Here's a hint, though; episode one is a joke.
big duh.

RE: Best Anime of 2006
Kemonozume
Black Lagoon
Kekkaishi
Nana
H&C IIthats aboot it.
most overrated show is that Suzumiya shit by far… something that popular simply cant be good.
and biggest let-down was definitely Ergo Proxy -
RE: Juki Ningen Jumbor (Shaman King Mangaka's new series)
Sigh, as usual, you are thicker than the cornerstone of a condemned Catholic church. Appropriately, you should go back to /b/, benny.
…
VIZ Media, contrary to popular belief, does not have exclusive rights to JUMP related material; see the history of Raijin Comics (defunct) and who actually owns the Japanese rights to CMX's Tenjou Tenge for details.
Since Del Rey only seems to be able to license Kodansha stuff… and Viz (especially since the entire ShoPro announcement) gets dibs on EVERYTHING Shueisha/Shogakukan.... The thick one is you for having high hopes.
Not to stray from the subject... I wouldn't mind reading it. I never liked Shaman King but maybe this is better. Looks better at least... apart from the mechs. ... whatever.

RE: Anyone here play obscure games?
I have no idea how obscure this is, but one of my all-time favorite genres is Point & Click.
It's almost like Latin, a dead games genre.Monkey Island (1-3), the first 2 Broken Swords, Discworld, Maniac Mansion, Full Throttle…. Awesome shit.

RE: Which manga has the best drawings?
I guess I've always loved how Masakazu Katsura could combine incredibly realistic drawings with comic faces. His stories arent always too great, but his art really is.
-
RE: Blue Dragon manga
Well the game looks f-ing sweet. Of course you cant tell how good it'll really be substantially, but this looks like an old school Dragonball fan's wet dream.
About the manga; again it looks cool, as most stuff drawn by Takeshi Obata. And since I check out most shit (in a good or bad way) from Jump for some reason, and people I know will be scanlating it, I'll probably read it.
Though for some reason, manga Takeshi Obata has been involved with never completely convinced me. Even if he doesnt have anything to do with the writing.
Hikaru no Go was a good manga, and fairly interesting as far as a story about Go can be, but in the end it's just way too sterile. And Death Note could've been brilliant if part 2 didnt suck donkey balls.
