Actually, pipboy has the right of it there. If luffy had to decide between the destruction of a nation to which he has no ties or the death of a nakama's dream… I could very easily see him choosing the dream.

He didn't fight buggy because buggy attacked first. He fought buggy because the dog's food store burnt down and the old mayor was willing to sacrifice himself for the pride of the town.

He fought croc because of the nami's map making room. He fought kuro because usopp was willing to sacrifice himself in obscurity is the boss and realizeto save a town that hated him. He fought in drum island to show chopper had nakama. He attacked the WG because they threatened his nakama. Enel he fought to mainly to show acornhead that jaya did exist.

Luffy doesn't make himself out as a hero that fights bad guys because they do bad things. He doesn't even search out fights with difficult enemies for training purpose (think how he avoided messing with smoker).

His motivation for fighting comes about when he meets someone whose noble dream has been desecrated, and he will fight whoever it takes to make that dream come to light.

In retrospect... that is a little psycho...

Lets see, enemies and reason why Luffy powed then
Alvida - Kinda protecting Coby, he only attacked after Coby faced her.
Moochi (the animal trainer) - The dog
Buggy - the Mayor
Kuro - Ussop, later his pirate pride
Krieg - His pride as a future pirate king, found a way to skip working in Baratie
Arlong - the motherf@&@!# hurt my navigator, he found a way to help (understand) her
Smoke - he never had a reason to stay and fight, even more when he found the his attacks where useless.
Zoro - he hurted the guys that gave him food (pride??)
Red Giant - defending himself
Mister 3 - messing with the giants battle (pride)
Vapol - Defending himself (at ship), attacking his friends (while climbing the montain), defending a pirate pride (while in the caste)
Smoke - again, same reason
Crocodile - just because Vivi was willing to do everything, including killing herseft for the sake of her country, Luffy didn't wanted that, so he went do kill crocodile himself.
The guy in Jaya (tottally forgot name) - he stole the gold
Enel - he JUST was in the way for the bell, he was kinda pissed about his fried nakama as well.
Foxy - game = protect his nakama
Lucci - find what is wrong with Robin
Blueno - rescue Robin
Lucci - rescue Robin

With that said, he is no psico, he most of the times is fighting for someone else, sometimes he fight for his own beliefs or defending himself.

And yes, i really think Garp is trying to capture Luffy, maybe not with killing intent but he isn't using all his weapons against him, to give him a chance. Like a father who hit his son hard but not enought to actually hurt him, just to show to the children who is the boss and that whatever stuff the kid did, it was fucking wrong.

We have the thin darkish paper, without colors (everything is gray).
We usually had a book quality paper.

BTW Helter, i'm sorry but I'm pretty sure I've read some raws writen with the KamiSama Kanji, like when he introduced himself to Robin, when he zapped that girl in front of Wiper, when Luffy mentioned him too.

The wrost example I could imagine is in the scene in Rurouni Kenshin when he was fighting that other hitoukiri (sp) that kidnapped Kaoru and hipnotised her.
The original version: Kendo no saya to, Niddou Battou Jutsu. (actually something like: Sword and (dunno, the part where the sword is keeped;bainha in portuguese), double battou tecnique).
In portuguese: You tricked me Battousai!!!!???!?!

For situations like this is that I cry in Rurouni Kenshin anime dub or One Piece dub, and I hope Naruto/Bleach NEVER come here.

I just stopped buying it after they changed to this actual horrible paper, so I don`t know how it is going nowadays. But, if I take as a comparision parameter the Dragon Ball tank editions of Dragon Ball, I have to say they much better translated, and feel much more natural and fluid than before. But unfortunantely, it misses several of extras of the originals… including the covers :ninja:

About it, i think it's the same paper as the origina version.
It was a long time since I had a original JUMP so i can't confirm this.

That's not it, consider this:
Get 2 translator, same skills, one like manga, one couldn't care less.
Guess who will actually do more reseach about different names or fan base.
Same stuff with the editors, i don't think that cutting a chapter in the half is actually the act of a manga lover than someone that just wanna lower the costs.
IMHO, wanna sell cheap? sell the full tako (2 vol at the same time) get COLOR (damn), release it every 2 months, and put tons of adds into it (kids magazines, conventions, fansites, other manga).

Conrad releases is not all that bad, but true they are getting so bad. They cut off the Usopp's Pirate Galleries since volume 21, they change the chapters' title for other with no sense and recently they removed the introduction and upcoming pages.

I'm not sure, but I think the releases were much better when Sydney and Cassius were the editors.

Again, for what I can remember, Sydney and Cassius actualy liked the manga, same with DBZ and Saint Seya, I guess Conrad doesn't take that as important.

The only thing that I really find insane about translations at all, (anime and manga) is that I'm pretty sure the company NEVER hire just one random guy that actually likes the series, so much mistakes could be solved.
A gormet translation a italian menu should do a better job than some (good) translator that doesn't even know what a fundue is.
