considering how much manga material they covered, the filler was done decently IMO

Carrot was the highlight again 
the inclusion of the SBS detail that curry's the Navy's main dish - lot to like. Let's hope it lasts.
I think it was mainly an easter egg to the anime filler episode where Sanji sneaks into a Marine Convoy that is, ironically, having food issues, and teaches them how to make good curry.
With it coming full circle now that the SH's are having a food crisis while Sanji is away, and being saved by that very same curry recipe
I think it's very poetic and one of the most thoughtful things ive seen from the OP anime in years

I agree. The fact that its brand new content we haven't seen before definitely adds to the mystery and enjoyment

They definitely nailed the G8 vibes and the marine perspective was fresh
I loved that Sanji's marine curry is such a hit with all the marines. Great anime easter egg
And Carrot was absolutely adorable (put more carrots in my curry!)
Coby and Garp cameo also make perfect sense in canon
If this is how Toei can do all fillers, I honestly wouldn't mind watching a full season of it

Also the tour of the ship was really nice! I loved Carrot's "puffer-fish face" and "planting carrots" scenes; both were anime filler but very tasteful and fun!

Hands down THE BEST EPISODE since the timeskip. This was Movie-tier animation, art, music, direction, etc. And it wasn't just a key scene or two, but the ENTIRE episode looked like it came out of Film Z animation.

Thats not in any way reflected by the story though. Espeically considering Violet starts out having no plan, and needing Sanji to snap her into "Actually, fuck Doflamingo!" mode. And "Turns out Violet had canonical sex with the guy responsible for framing her dad for treason, her sisters death, and years of abuse for her niece!" is just… a crazy dark detail to throw into the mix in an offhand column answer.
I'm still believing it to be some misguided joke, and that Doflamingo and Violet are just being mock-affectionate in the scene in question
I mean, its not "forbidden love", no matter what softcore fanfiction might get cooked up. Its Doflamingo banging a hostage whos life he ruined. Might as well have Nami hook up with Arlong- or is that too much because Arlong killed her mom, whereas Doflamingo "only" claimed Violets sister?
this kind of stuff happens all the time in real life with Pimps and their girls

I loved the humour bits too, the anime definitely added some original voice bits that remind me of the old days of OP anime

so Funi is showing it in theatres AFTER the bluray comes out? :getlost: Sounds like incredibly stupid planning or lack of coordination between Toei and Funi.
People will just watch illegally and the theatre attendance will go way down. Toei basically threw Funi under the bus. Like they really couldnt wait a bit longer to release the dvd?

yeah I thought the art direction was great this episode. The music choices while Luffy walking through the forest was amazing

Of course the Kaido intro was gorgeous, and the Zou scenes were beautifully animated.
But my favourite part was actually the first act with the serene night time music in Kyros house and the filler crew dialogues which really took me back to the feeling of the post-Alabasta stuff. Wonderful
