Baffling choices. Why give each Seraphim a separate card? They barely exist as individual characters and only Snake showed a personality trait so far. Hopefully filling four cards with nearly identical information means they will add some new background info like they did with Queen.

RE: Chapter 1127: Adventure in the Land of Mystery
I really can't see how "drawing inconsistencies" would relate to "it's an illusion".
If it was something like "oh, this Zoro has both eyes open, it's an illusion", sure, ok. But "oh, this sword was missing on one panel and back on the next"... huh? Why would an illusion work like that? -
RE: EA SUCKS but so does Bioware Thread
Considering the choices they made on the already infamous reveal trailer, I believe they will make Veilguard as accessible for new players as possible, so I don't expect a lot of knowledge from previous games being required (and after all this time, it wouldn't be wise anyways).
Still, I will probably watch a recap video on YouTube before playing Veilguard while checking my Tapestry to know how things went on "my" story.

RE: Chapter 1126: Settling the Score
I don't think Shanks was "fine", but he knows Yasopp was right. He had explained a few minutes before the possible consequences of letting someone invade his territory, burn his flag and go unpunished. Once his "fake punishment" failed, he tried to disregard what he had already said and just let it go, but Yasopp followed through.
It's an interesting scene to set the tone of the relationship between Shanks and his closest officers. Shanks had clearly made his choice, but Yasopp disregarded it and acted against it in front of Shanks; we can see things are a lot less "vertical" here than even in the SH or the BBP.
Could lead to something if Shanks is ever put in a position where he has to chose between Luffy and whatever goal his crew had been pursuing so far. -
RE: Chapter 1126: Settling the Score
@Bugs said in Chapter 1126: Settling the Score:
I think what strikes me most about the whole Bart-Shanks affair is that there’s no out for Bart. If he fights back (again, because he’s taken a few injuries, though his crew seems fine), he loses and possibly dies. If he willingly “poisons” himself and then is told he gets to leave because he’s loyal to Luffy, he loses and possibly dies. If he agrees to “poison” Luffy (essentially agreeing to serve Shanks), well there’s no reason to think Shanks won’t have his ship sunk, so he loses and possibly dies.
Kaido, at the very least, does give you an option to live (by joining him) even if you’ve wrecked his territory (see Drake), but that option doesn’t exist with Shanks.
Take the poison and leave. Then once you are out of sight, throw it away.
I don't know if it's your case, but I think a lot of people are having trouble understanding this scene because the early spoilers said it was a "loyalty test". So by the time people read the chapter, they had already set their minds into interpreting the scene like that even though nothing in it actually suggests Shanks was testing Barto.
Shanks knows he needs to punish someone who attacked his territory, even more if it's a subordinate of another Emperor. But he obviously has no intention of fighting Luffy and killing his men. So he came up with this fake punishment that would fool those around.
Bartolomeo drinking the poison was not intended, it ruined his plan, exposed him and the fact he never intended to punish Luffy/Barto.
Now his hand was exposed, Shanks opted to take the loss with a laugh instead of passing a real punishment. But Yasopp disagreed. -

Some theories:
- Shanks attacking Barto happened a month ago. Not sure about the timeline, but it seems to have been before Shanks attacked Kidd in Elbaf. Wonder if that will put Shanks against Luffy somehow, since Barto can’t be out of the story yet..
Barto arrived at the island and burned the flag 1 month ago. His confrontation with Shanks happened now (for whatever reason he decided to stay in that island this entire time).

RE: 1119: ''The Entrusted Message! King Cobra's Resolve''
I don't know if I am suddenly forgetting a lot of context, but these last 2 episodes suddenly made me realize how so much of these events in Marie Geoise don't really make sense (for example, why is Vivi captured? Last we saw her Lucci was going to escort her, but now she is being opposed by the CP0 and being treated as a hostage).

RE: Chapter 1126: Settling the Score
This chapter definitely feels like the next arc has begun and the mid-arc stuff is over. But I really hope we at least get to see Cross Guild next chapter before fully moving on, since we got the BBP and the RHP this week.
With the Vivre Card seemingly revealing Perona was intended to be a part of CG, their next scene could tie with Moria's escape mentioned in this one and complete this plot line that has been (sloppily) carried off-screen. -

RE: EA SUCKS but so does Bioware Thread
Looking good! Made me optimistic.
I wish I was able to refrain from looking at the pre-release content, though. I played both DA and ME trilogies knowing absolutely nothing of the games, not even who the companions were (meeting Jack and finding "he" was nothing like I was expecting was one of the best surprises I had in games), and that turned out so well I wish I could repeat it for the next installments. But with both Andromeda and Veilguard, I couldn't really help myself (hopefully Veilguard will not be an overall repeat of Andromeda).
The way the Qunari horns mesh into the head is kinda off putting, though. Hopefully it's just an issue of getting used to it, since I intend to have a Qunari Rook, as my previous three protagonists belonged to the other three races. That aside, my only real issue is the fact they went back to playerssexual companions, something I strongly dislike (it's the kind of move devs make to feign diversity while actually avoiding comitting to it)... I know the director said "they are not playerssexual, they just happen to coincidently be all pansexual", but that's bs.Since it's been so long since I played DA:I, I was thinking of going at it again so I could remember the basic stuff (I couldn't even remember Harding was an existing character), but I'm afraid it might get me burned out instead of hyped for the next game...

Well, nobody killed Saturn in front of them. Unless they assume it was an incredibly weird natural death, accepting he was killed by someone will mean it was done remotely, so Luffy is a suspect as valid and anyone else.

RE: Chapter 1125: What Death Means
Like I mentioned in the spoiler thread, I really hope Garling's promotion shakes up the group dynamics (which, obviously, would require Oda focusing on developing them as characters).
The OG Elders seemed to be of a single mind. Despite showing nothing but contempt towards humanity, they don't seem to be as eager to watch the world burn as Imu is. I could see them usually acting to sway Imu into not taking too drastic measures whenever possible.
Galing, however, seems more of the belligerent kind. It would be interesting if his presence would end up making the WG actions become more and more violent simply because the Elders would lose the unity they had before, as Garling would instead feed Imu's tyrannical dispositions.
Things will probably not develop in any way even remotely close to that, but I will still hope to see Garling becoming the terror of any dissident forces (including within) while the other Elders would be forced to conspire against him and Imu. -
RE: Chapter 1125: What Death Means
In retrospect, it should be obvious Saturn had to leave and Moon needed to join the group.

RE: Vivre Card: One Piece Visual Dictionary
Completely irrelevant, but as I was wondering why some trivia are given to some characters and not to others, I noticed there is a pattern regarding the info on the "Profile" box (for non-SH only):
- the character's first card will only have the basic info (gender, ship, birthday, age, height, zodiac sign, blood type, birth place, favorite food, bounty, voice actor)
- the second card adds: least favorite food, hobby, animal,
- the third card adds: flower, profession if not ___, favorite season/island.
Ace, Sabo and Lucci were the only exceptions. Probably because they got their 2nd card before the pattern was decided (they were the only non-SH that got 2 cards before the boosters) .

@Deicide Could've also come up on Egghead when Vegapunk met Franky; like he could've recognized the familial connection somehow. I would've liked to see more Franky / Vegapunk interactions in general.
Good point, this definitely ruins the theory of the child being Franky.
Queen's (real name Scien, btw) timeline states he left MADS, abandoned his child and joined the Beast Pirates all in the same year (when his child was already 10yo).
If the child was Franky, there would be no chance he and Vegapunk wouldn't know (and recognize) each other already. -
RE: Vivre Card: One Piece Visual Dictionary
Oda having no connection with it, loosely overseeing it or directly checking every line written on it is irrelevant (according to Greg, it's more the second btw. He is part of it, but just to identify major mistakes or provide some new trivia). The problem is when you have a ton of people who simply can't understand the difference between flavor text from actual statements. Or how a side databook that is meant to mostly summarize already known things is not meant to offer insight and new understanding of previous events.
-
RE: Vivre Card: One Piece Visual Dictionary
To be fair, current Queen looks like Weevil, but the young one from MADS times looked a lot more like Franky,
I think both cases could work with a few tweaks here and there, and connections could be made for both.Except if it is Franky, Oda would have majorly dropped (another) ball in Wano, not to mention one very particular to Franky himself (and it's not like Franky got many character centric moments so Oda could have the luxury of cutting something like this). Meanwhile, if it's Weevil, there's no harm in any way and this could be incorporated later into the story.

RE: Vivre Card: One Piece Visual Dictionary
BIG NEWS!!!
Kaido's animal is... DRAGON! Mihawk's is... HAWK! Yamato... WOLF!And going by Mihawk's card, it seems Buggy's crew now will have its own color like the other Emperors (magenta? I don't know, I am very basic about color names).
-
RE: Vivre Card: One Piece Visual Dictionary
Since Brazil is locked out of Twitter, I can only get the rehashed info from other boards.
So, Queen has a 36yo child that he abandoned at 10. Fanbase is going wild saying it's Franky, while some theorize it's Weevil.
I would need to check on Franky's flashback to see if the timeline fits, but there's definitely a lot of similarities - theme-wise - going for it.
Weevil could also work, with the striking visual similarities. It would be easy to explain it (he could be the one in MADS responsible for creating Weevil, and fooled Bucking into thinking he was made with hers+Newgate genetic material instead of hers+Queen).
I definitely prefer the Weevil theory, simply because having Queen be Franky's father and they never even interacting or having this being brought up during the story would just add to the pile of terribly executed stuff Wano has going for it. Meanwhile Weevil being the his son could still be used in some way, even if just for a gag (also it would be cool if Weevil's strength ended being thanks to his mother intead of Newgate).

RE: The Weight Of Elbaf
I don't think Elbaf is similar to Wano. Wano was being built up since Momo and Kin'emon "joined" the crew. Elbaf is more like Fishman Island - a place that has been mentioned long ago and then here and there, but with no actual build-up to the arc. Or like Vegapunk.
As for the scope of the arc, the crew is already going there with Lilith, Bonney and a catatonic Kuma. Given those characters connections, I am expecting the arc to also have the Revolutionary Army as part of its cast (we also still need to find out what Shaka contacted Dragon for).
Kid obviously didn't drifted to another island, so he and Killer will also be around, probably saved by a giant thankful for Big Mom's defeat.
There's even a chance Law and Bepo might be there, since Elbaf should be close to Winner Island. That's some considerable extra weight before even getting to know the local cast, so I'm not expecting it to be an arc heavily focused on the crew (Egghead was the perfect chance for that, yet Oda didn't took it).
-
RE: Chapter 1124: Close Friend
Between Borsalino already picking the phone telling Sakazuki to "shut up" and the line about Lilith's hunger going as "Vegapunk cutting greed off his brain", the official translation had some... questionable choices.
Hadn't noticed before that Usopp was tinkering in that panel (with something we can't see). Don't want to get my hopes up, but hopefully this is the first sign of his characterization coming back to him.

Sometimes I'm really puzzled on Oda's decisions to rush his story. He skips part I would have been interested in and here he spends all a chapter on a flashback that I would not care at all if it never existed.
One point of interest is Joyboy's haki at the beginning of the chapter. Countrary to previous chapter, Doll is shown uncouncious whereas none of the good guys is affected. Is it because they feel no hostility ? Is that how Raileigh choose who to knock out in the slave auction. It is not by targeting someone but by making the haki "hostile on demand" ? I'm not sure to understand how that works :-)
Going by this chapter, I think the giant ship and the Sunny were just distant enough to no be affected. The giants even needed binoculars to check on the Marines, so I suppose they managed to gain some ground (water?) before the robot unleashed the haki

Almost everything else i can kind of rationalise, but the reasoning behind the memory wipe eludes me. Especially when you also leave a memo with some of the info erased but not the crucial ones.
York on her own was able to fool the other 6 for however long so effectively that even after the leak was discovered it took another week for 3 Vegapunks to pinpoint her among only 4 suspects. How is it impossible for the 3 of them to do the same in reverse? Why keep the other 3 in the dark once you established that there is only 1 traitor? Even if you're resigned to die, why not leveraging on your surprise effect on York to reverse her plan against her and do the most damage control possible?
Also, how is it possible that the wildest of wild cards, meaning an emperor, Bonney and the giants coming to eggehead, ended up not mattering at all? These things happen when you first write the story and only after you shoehorn in the character actions to fit it.
Yeah, it was a very weird chapter. It addressed some unanswered questions Oda had brought up before, but all of it reeked of "afterthought" instead of something he had envisioned prior to the events we saw.
Particularly weird is the panel where Vegapunk is overwhelmed by the news of the parties arriving on top of the other on Egghead... except the Cipher Pol. only got there later than the SH/Bonney (when Vegapunk was down in the Labophase with Luffy). And the Marines, with Borsalino and Saturn, only on the next day.
The chapter feels so sloppily put together even the confirmation of "we are finally going to Elbaf" in the end felt weak after all that.

Yeah, but you realize the "after that" is nearing a decade, at this point. Dressrosa ended 9 years ago.
I don't think anyone denies Usopp had moments in Dressrosa.Considering how much attention Oda has been giving to him in the mean time, I admit my expectations for him in Elbaf are closer to Alfiere's.
I will be very glad to be wrong and see Usopp getting attention again, especially as a source of good comedy, but I find hard to believe Oda will suddenly show great interest in a character he barely includes in the background for almost 10 years just because it's a new arc. -

Lilo & Stitch is getting a remake and I still didn't watched the original. I think I will take this as the push to finally do it.
I didn't watch any of these remakes/sequels in CGI/live action except Maleficent (the experience was bad enough for me to not go near any of the others), but I admit Mufasa got me interested. Might check on it, once I don't have to pay for it.

RE: Chapter 1122: Time is Right
To be honest, Mihawk doesn't even want to work in the shadows, he seemingly just wants to live in peace and not be bothered.
Granted we know nothing of his dreams and motivations, but so far it seems he already achieved whatever he set out to achieve, but now has to deal with the aftermath of the infamy he gained. He only agreed to have an alliance with Crocodile because he believed the alliance could keep the Marine away now the Warlord title wasn't doing it anymore.
Considering nearly 30 years after his introduction we never even saw his Jolly Roger, I wouldn't be surprised if similar to Kuma he never was truly a pirate and was just branded so by the Marine.
-
RE: Chapter 1122: Time is Right
I just realized now that York was left alone on the Labophase along with the CP-0.
The Marines seem to have secured everything they were after (York, Mother Flame, Punk Record), Sentomaru and Stussy were left behind. The SH are now finally free to escape and they undoubtedly will, even though the majority of the forces they had to run from were just expelled from the island and most of the remaining ones are already defeated... it seems the Marine will snatch all the spoils from a battle they seemingly lost.
Although as long as Saturn is around, I guess he probably could summon the Elders back again and resume everything... -
RE: Official Egghead Thread
In my eyes, Egghead at its worst was still better than 90% of Wano. I doubt (or at least I hope) no arc will ever come close to Wano at the bottom of the list.
Contrary to most people, I think I would have disliked Egghead more if we didn't had skipped the resolution of the York portion, because all the bits focused on the Satellite or on the Seraphim were the only portions I truly found the arc boring (even if there was some Kaku related action skipped, I am still glad we didn't spent more time seeing the cast running around a gray laboratory fighting robots with next to zero personality). -

Sure I voted for Koichi, but I just wish the collective fanbase population would have enough of a brain to vote for new people.
Many of us, me included, have no idea who already has a statue and won't be looking it up. All Might is my favorite character. I'll vote for him.
Yeah, I really don't buy the idea that Minato only won the world poll because "people voted for a character that could benefit the most from the announced prize".
Nobody will stop voting for their favorite based on that kind of logic. With that said, these online world polls can be very unpredictable due to botting.

RE: My Hero Academia II - A true Hero
It would be kinda embarrassing for the main character to not be the one getting the statue, so I wonder if the reason why they will have the final voting be with only with the top 3 characters (obviously Bakugo, Deku and Shoto) is because they have some info that Deku might be more popular with the portion of the fanbase that normally don't vote for any of those 3.

I love citizens learning to be more proactive! That was a major flaw in that society. The twist with the kid being helped instead of becoming a villain was excellent. But, damn, his family is crazy. I hope they arrest the lot of them.
Interesting that All Might's eyes are becoming "normal". Does that mean he no longer has access to OFA?
With the Mysterious Boy subplot resolved, Horikoshi can do anything he wants for the final chapter. Time skip? Open-ended ending? Confirmed romantic relationships? Setup for a future sequel? I'm really excited how this will end.
Still no Deku's dad…
One thing I admire Horikoshi for doing is not following the "time skip" route that seemed to be a forced course for shonen manga to go at that point.
So now I am hoping he might also resist the other seemingly forced course of action of showing every kid marrying a friend from their teenage years and having their own kids at the same age. -
RE: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
From my understanding, I think things were properly explained, Episode Ardyn tightly put everything together, it's just that it was a weird path to follow considering how those stories usually go.
One thing that I think was definitely left unexplained was how Solheim and Ifrit's revolt fit into all this.
As it stands, it all seemed completely unrelated to the this Scourge/Ardyn/Lucis/Oracle deal, but it's weird that it ended up that way. Maybe the dropped DLC was going to address that. -
RE: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
Finally got to play FFXV.
"Finally" may give the wrong impression, since I never had any will to play this game. The little I knew about it made me not interested at all, but the version with all DLC included was really cheap so, well, why not? Maybe because I had so little interest to begin with, it was definitely better than I anticipated.
The battle system some times could be so frustrating that it was unbearable (although I made it much worse than it had to be, since only when I was doing the post-game content - more than 100 hours in - I found out how the dodge/parry system worked) and almost the entire cast is mediocre (although Ardyn and Ignis were already the characters I enjoyed the most during the main game, it was only after playing their DLC episodes I actually got to the point of "liking" them), but somehow the game was really addictive.
I don't usually bother with side collecting activities that became staples in gaming, like fishing and cooking, but this game managed to make them interesting enough. Particularly the recipehs, since the food looked good enough for me to want to cook everything at least once just to see how the thing looked.
The one thing that drove me away at first (a super small party with the same 4 characters) ended up being something I enjoyed. I mean, probably not if it sticked, but knowing it was thing of this game only I can appreciate the different approach. The execution might not be as good as the premise, though... I feel like they wanted their closeness to be conveyed not through key events, but mostly by the mundane stuff of their daily lives, but still felt like some key scenes focusing on that would have helped. And I would have preferred the attempt of doing an "adult version" of Stand by Me if it could have included at least the token female character. Not fan of the idea that intimate friendship can only be shared by people of the same gender. The game was surprisingly intuitive. After finishing the game and the quests, I checked online if there was anything crucial I missed and basically it was just Pitioss Ruins (which I admit to ragequit after 3 hours and don't intend to try again). Other than that I only needed to resort to online guides to find the rainbow frogs and one of the 4 "things" in the sewers that was impossible to find. Maybe out of habit I felt disappointed at first on how easy to find almost everything was, but thinking objectively that's a good thing... finding a dungeon or an item only because someone on the internet told me where it was never felt good, but I never felt like turning every stone in a game to find hidden content, so FFXV did it the right way for me.
Maybe it's because I had just recently played IX, but I couldn't help but miss the "fantasy" aspect in Eos. There were monsters and magic and gods, but still everything felt too "grounded". That seemed to be even the philosophy behind the character design, since basically every NPC looked so unremarkable.
<<<SPOILERS BELOW>>>
I have to say, though, the DLC probably improved my overall impression a lot... specifically Episodes Ignis and Ardyn (I enjoyed Episode Ignis more than anything in the main game). But having seen the entire story I am conflicted what the message here was... humanity felt like it was reduced to nothing not a bunch of pieces for gods to use, and it's weird how that seems to be the final message. Everything the characters went through, all the sacrifices, all the suffering were just planned. Both the protagonist and the antagonist played the same part in the gods' plans, and there was nothing they could do about it. The End. I don't know, it's weird to end things like that, not very in line with what this kind of story usually tries to tell us. Or maybe the message is that we might never know if we are truly free or just following a predetermined series of events (either set by a higher will or by causality) so what truly matters is the "friends we made along the way". -
RE: Official Wano Thread
@RomanceDawn said in Official Wano Thread:
Am I reading too much into it that Kaidou wanted one of those near death(or actual death) battles to awaken his fruit?
I like this idea, never thought of that. But as far as I remember, Oda never really went back to Kaido's suicidal tendencies after his introductory chapter back in Dressrosa. I don't think it was ever even acknowledged after that, so maybe it's am aspect of the character that was dropped by the time he was fully presented in Wano.
My headcanon is that Kaido and Linlin had Awakening and never used it for different reasons: Linlin out of hubris, because she never conceived two upstart rookies would force her to go that far (and when she realized the mistake, it was too late); Kaido because he saw it as overkill and would just ruin the fight to use it too early (and by the time he realized he would needed it, it was too late for him as well).
We know from Lucci that even after Awakening a Zoan used can still access their regular transformation, so Kaido never using an Awakened form doesn't necessarily means he didn't had it. -

RE: Chapter 1121: The Upheaval of the Era
In the spoiler thread, I mentioned the final spread, despite being exciting and hype, feeling like a repeat of what we got before by just repeating the "remember to go after the One Piece, guys" we got in occasions before. But as @andy pointed out, this time the speech is bringing more players into the race.
Vegapunk is underlining to the entire world claiming the One Piece is not something that just matters to the pirates, it's not just a big treasure to make you rich and famous, it's something that can change the entire world (and even make the difference between it dying or not), so I think it's not fair to consider it just a rehashing of past speeches like Whitebeard's.
It definitely raises the stakes, making it everyone's problem. The entire world now was fine ignoring pirates as long as they didn't came to their shores, but now they can't divert their eyes, and things like the Revolutionary Army have all the reason to also meddle directly in this issue that so far they might have been regarding as unrelated to their cause. -

RE: Official Egghead Thread
I think it's much simpler than that.
Every character who went to Dressrosa got a proper raise. The ones who didn't got a standard raise. Except Franky.
In Wano, every character who got a 1x1 fight got a proper raise. The ones who didn't got a standard raise. Except Franky. The bounty posters explain why: the Marine is always looking for him in the wrong body.
-
RE: Official Egghead Thread
Nah, there is definitely a gag about him not getting a proper bounty, it's just very poorly executed.
If you look at Dressrosa, every character who was part of the action (Luffy, Zoro, Usopp, Sanji and Robin) got proper raises while the ones who didn't get part of the action got a standard 50 million raise. Despite getting his own 1x1 against and officer, Franky came out with the same 50 million standard raise as Nami and Brook - and based on the bounty picture, that was because the Marine thought the Franky Shogun was Franky (and he didn't appear in this arc).
Then in Wano, again, every SH who got a fight got a proper raise (Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Robin and Jinbe) while every SH who didn't got a standard 300 million raise (Nami, Usopp and Brook). And again, despite having his own 1x1 against an officer Franky came out with the 300 million standard raise - this time the Franky Shogun fought, but this time the Marine thought he was the ship.
Now that I think about it, this probably means in the next big arc he will weaponize the Sunny...
-
RE: Official Egghead Thread
I wonder if now that Franky is the one getting the most screen time besides Luffy, Oda will finally give him a proper bounty raise instead of keep going with the gag that the Marine fails to recognize him. Unlike Chopper's, it not like this gag is even acknowledged by the fanbase.
Had him been given a proper raise in Dressrosa and Wano (instead of the standard raise given to the crewmembers who didn't contribute to the action), his bounty would probably be similar to Robin instead of being closer to Nami.

RE: 1112: "Clash! Shanks vs. Eustass Kid"
I didn't "refute anything else your brought up" because I think it's just disingenuous for someone to say "I am out" while at same time bringing up a lot of counterarguments, as it basically just reads as "I will try to end this conversation but I don't want you to have the final word". So I didn't do it.
EDIT: I went back and did a huge post. But I will stick to my previous statement. It's not like I had anything new to say beyond what I had already pointed out anyways.
