If you haven't read Hunter X Hunter, I'd say that's a good read for most One Piece fans… just... might be left hanging in anticipation for a couple of years. JoJo is great series, too, and will definitely keep you busy for a long while. If you start reading it now from Chapter 1... well... you'll be lucky to be halfway through the series by the time One Piece starts back up again.

RE: Post yer first weekly chapter you started following with
I started reading regularly at the start of the Long Ring arc.
I remember at the time reading from MSN groups, and beforehand only watching Kaizoku-Fansubs, around the Alabasta Arc I think. Unfortunately, I remember after reading One Piece weekly for several weeks, getting bored with the Luffy vs Foxy fight and stopped reading for a while… only to hear from someone else about an admiral appearing and regretting not keeping up. I think Water 7 was really the start of being obsessive about One Piece, were I started to need to check for spoilers every week.

RE: Why do people hate James Cameron's Avaturd?
Probably one of Cameron's best movie or his best movie.
Avatar cannot even compare to that.
Based on your description, I'll skip clicking the link, and just assume it's Laser Cats 5.

RE: Chapter 518 "Battle Arena" Discussion
Wondering if Haki is just another form of fighting used by the bad guys like Mantra and Doriki or whatever… something that gets people speculating if the crew will learn to use it. The big difference is that lately there has been lots of foreshadowing of learning something similar to Haki ever since the initial encounter with Duval and Luffy making his buffalo pass out. Then Rayleigh fighting a logia with a sword to boot... seems like the story has been heavy in hints in something new being added to Luffy's repertoire... so is it going to be Haki, or should that get overlooked like the previous bad guy fighting styles?
And do you suppose that the curse is a story made up to protect whatever is on the Gorgon sisters' backs? If the stone transformation is just a part of a devil fruit (as well as a couple of snake zoans), then couldn't the symbol on the back be unrelated to those powers? Maybe a tatoo they prefer stayed hidden. Wouldn't be surprised if the curse was false... Also wouldn't be surprised if someone posted this exact speculation already...

RE: Davy Back Fight Ark
I'm just re reading DBF, and I'm having a blast, but I can't stop thinking that if I was on week to week basis reading it, I would be sooo anoyed with foxy's stupid antics, so the question is, what did the old enough members felt spoiler after spoiler week of "he attacked with something weird to the 1st team" "is chopper part of their crew for good?" "what is that batfuck crazy head thing?" "an afro…"
And finaly did Foxy in the chap 315, when he distracted luffy to pull the lever to get him inside the ship, said "look a three headed monkey"?
I'm positive he didn't really say that. Think that was only in the Null scanlation? I can't remember exactly, and not on a computer where I can check very easily. However, I do remember that quote, groaning, and downloading a different scanlation… think by Kaizoku-ou instead...
I actually thought that arc was boring when it was coming out week-to-week. At that time I was reading One Piece once a month (as opposed to how I've been lurking the spoiler threads every week for over a year now). Though Afro-Luffy caught my attention, the Luffy v Foxy fight didn't.
Oh yeah... I do remember that arc started not too long after Oda announced someone would leave the crew and someone new would join. The fact Chopper got drafted by Foxy had a few people believing that they were losing Chopper and getting someone new. Really... I felt like Oda making that announcement then starting the Davy Back Fight... he was just teasing us the whole time.

RE: Chapter 468 "Pirate Chopper vs. Mystery Man Hogback" Discussion
Haven't looked through the entire thread yet, but I see no one mention that Robin drugged Cindry in this chapter… I thought Robin pulled something out of Chopper's salt pouch, but in her hand while placing it in Cindry's mouth, it looked almost like a rumble ball. I'm not sure at all... but was thinking that an end to Cindry would be coming up in the next chapter...

RE: Chapter 464 "Sanji's Dream" Discussion
Maybe the real Perona is somewhere else and that's a phantom Perona.
Then a zombie with a toadstool head could tell Ussop that the Ghost Princess is in another castle.

RE: Chapter 454 "Humming" Discussion
While you have a point, your argument is so weak it's unbelievable. it was all good up until you got up to "Marines use swords bit" vomits.
Ok now while their are a lot of romantics on this forum. One Piece is a manga largely about fighting. a better way to phrase it would be to call it a fight driven manga and ultimately there's only so much you can make any one character do. to limit yourself by making a second character practically do the same thing is just suicide. Basically we're talking about a crew that will go down in history as one of the best of all time. emphasizing on strength.
Now if you take into account Zoro's personality. he likes to challenge famous swordsman. Indications in this chapter are that Brooke was famous. Also you have to note that Zoro's got a competitiveness about himself. his biggest rival was/is Sanji and when given the opportunity to fight Luffy he came round to the idea quite enthusiastically. I really can't understand how he's going to be ok with Brooke a/ stealing his scenes and b/ defeating enemies long since earmarked for Zoro. Not to mention how many sword fights can we stomach per arc and why would the author double that up? Zoro's fight in the last arc was quite average surely having to make two major swordfights per arc the quality would drop further. The fact that Zoro's now turned into a jumped up magician to rival the likes of The Great Dantone and The Professor really does shout out in bold underlined capital letters; Oda doesn't have it in him. Brooke is good for now as an arc character but we all know that once this arc finishes he will resume his relationship with Cindry and stay on at Thriller Bark.
At this point Absolom and Perona are both far better candidates for new crew members and they're blatantly baddies.
I don't really see Zoro challenging famous swordsmen ever… except for Mihawk. Otherwise, Zoro seems to have other reasons for fighting. Like fighting the bad guys for his nakama. Or fighting Luffy after losing his patience (I thought Zoro tried to talk sense to Luffy first... didn't strike me as enthusiastic).
I wouldn't be too sure that Brooke is going to always be facing swordsmen, either... I mean... we've only seen him fight a big monster so far. Even then, we only really saw him sheathe his sword.
But I don't think it matters whether Brooke is a swordsman or not when considering him to be in the Mugiwara. Luffy and Brooke previously agreed to him joining... isn't that enough?

RE: Chapter 454 "Humming" Discussion
I just noticed on the color spread that it looked like the gorilla and the tiger lost fights… but now the gorilla is wearing a "Franky" shirt and the tiger is wearing a "Luffy" shirt... I feel like there's so much more going on with that color spread. I hope to see it in the anime's opening eventually

RE: Chapter 454 "Humming" Discussion
Wow, great chapter. Awesome colorspread. Franky doesn't cease to amaze me… those heavy nunchaku are too awesome.
And Brooke says he'll have to tell them everything about this island... looks like we have something to look forward to in the next chapter. This two week break is going to be full of Brooke speculation, I'm sure...
And hey, that zombie with Zoro's shadow is in close proximity to Brooke right now, isn't he? That could be fun.
