I just thought, as a staff of Nakama, I'd like to update you guys a bit and hopefully by the end of my post, you'll understand what we consider quality and why it's been taking us time ^^*. Not really sure how I came across this thread, but I kind of just wandered by.
To us, quality means the translations are as perfect as we can possibly get them. If the translation checking stage is not done, we will not just continue on to the next stage because we're running out of time; time is not an issue. Naturally, we want to catch up and release on a weekly basis, but if that isn't possible, then so be it. Everything comes down to translation as that is, I think, the most important facet of the subbing process.
On that note, we've been having problems with our translators all going on hiatus. I don't know if you've seen the staff members page before we updated it, but it was a pretty big mess of translators who no longer work for Nakama.
Attack FX and karaoke have nothing to do with quality or the delays of our releases, we just add those in because they look pretty and it really doesn't add much time to the process (at least I feel like our typesetter does it really fast). Our encoder is constantly trying out new raws and messing around with them to see how we can get out the highest video quality, but this also doesn't delay our release schedule. We have great timers and editors IMHO, so that really isn't an issue. An error might slip by us now and then, but nobody's perfect. Once we're past the TLC stage, we're usually releasing within the next couple of days.
I remember reading a post about ditching the show because we're "not needed here" and we'd be more useful elsewhere. We sub One Piece because we love One Piece. We will not be subbing another show because that's not what we want to do. Fansubbing is a process where you have to love the show that you're doing; if you don't, you will quickly lose interest and it will show in the quality of your work.
I applaud Ybis for being able to release on a timely basis, which is a great attribute for any subbing group. I thank everyone who backed us up in this thread, and hopefully we can reward you with more episodes in the near future. We're behind around 10 episodes, but we're getting there. One episode is in the editing stage while four episodes are in the TLC stage, and we're getting through them.
On another note, just in our defense, I don't ever remember not releasing for a 6 month period D: I hope that was just exaggeration. Anyways, much thanks to everyone who enjoys our releases, and for those who prefer speed, hopefully you'll jump on our bandwagon WHEN we catch up (not if ^^*).
