@Zik:
Me and you both know it wasn't, Ace could've atleast thrown a punch. There are many ways to fight BB and using mostly a logia fire ability is one way but once you see it not working maybe you should switch up? I mean how do you expect Luffy to defeat BB? He'll definitely be fighting BB with his fists.
The way Oda portrayed Ace was like in the 3 years he left East blue he got that logia Df and used nothing but that to get his fame/rep in the GL.
Yea the fight was also used to show us how weak the SHs are but as Whitebeard's 2nd division commander Ace made em look bad. I asked myself how did he even get that title if WB's crew is suppose to be crew of a yonkou. I'm hoping Thatch doesn't disappoint.
Bottom line imo the fight was pitiful on Ace's part. I did not enjoy watching someone who should be atleast mid-tier get thrashed so convincingly. There wasn't a time I thought BB would lose and it wasn't cuz I knew he would win, Ace never had the upper hand. That final clash was anti-climatic after seeing Ace get kicked around and almost get his neck broken.
Clearly we both disagree on Ace's performance. You think it was all BB being stronger, I acknowledge his strength but Ace's weakness in this fight can not be ignored.
Of course there have to be other ways to beat Blackbeard, but it obviously didn't benefit Ace regardless. Luffy and Ace are two different fighters, while Luffy thrives from actual physical contact aided with his rubber ability, Ace it looks prefers to keep the things on his terms with his Logia powers. He could of thrown a punch, (which he should have) but he would of had the disadvantage in the fact that Blackbeard would of probably welcomed it. We know Ace is strong since he would always beat Luffy but is he as strong as Blackbeard physically is another thing. In terms of endurance it was easy to see who was the one receiving the most of the damage. This is what makes Blackbeard so fearful in what he is and will become. If Ace didn't even attempt or even give hints of actualy trying to connect with a fist or a kick then perhaps that shows why he is much more comfortable and keen in using his Logia abilities. Or he recognized what Blackbeard thrived on. Not everyone can be Zoro, who can match or adapt to a certain phase of battle and come out victorious on his own capabilities.
Thatch is actually dead, killed by Blackbeard, but I look forward to seeing Marco and Jozu as well. I think Ace was worthy of that position but I guess that the others need to show their abilities and power to make that claim.
A back-and-forth fight would of been even better but even if it was that, Ace would of lost, which is besides the point because the outcome of the fight was already had by Oda. A fight where Ace and Blackbeard would of each had their moments would of been more exciting sure, but it wouldn't have put through the point to which Teach was supposed to be presented. Rather than a fight where they would of been up to par at one point and then severed at the point of seperation in their power and capabilities.
Even if the intention was for Ace to lose, it was done in a matter where he was shown as a capable adversary even if not so for Blackbeard himself.
I think your taking Ace's shortcomings and making them the sole reason for his defeat but considerations have to be made, as to the cause and reason. Like I said, it was a matter of superiority and scenario. Blackbeard was just a superior fighter and the scenario was against Ace. Moreover, more importantly was the factor of the unpredictable and the obscure. Which Ace managed to discover, but at his defeat at the hands of Blackbeard.
