Exactly, he was an insane monster. He would have been an insane monster with or without the backdrop of the Holocaust. But to me what makes genocides so unbelievable is that the majority of it isn't carried out by monsters but by people following orders. Would it have not been more interesting to focus on them, to contrast a man who keeps his head down and follows hopelessly cruel orders with someone who was willing to rise above the system?
Again I really like the movie it's just a small issue I have with it.
