Honestly, I'm with Shift here, mostly from the perspective thats important to acknowledge when you're wrong - especially in a place such as this where things can get real, REAL heated. Its not just a matter of rolling with the story going in a different direction than you wanted, its also a matter of accepting that other people who argued it'd go in said direction probably weren't totally baseless. It cuts both ways, whether for Yamato or Carrot or whatever - if you wanna eventually go "see, I was right" you should also be willing to go "OK, I guess you had a point"

I think some humility is imporant if things like this thread are to be at all tolerable. Of course this stance doesn't mean one has to like whatever direction the story goes, or that its beyond criticism - like, I've long acknowledged that Yamato is quite likely to join, but that happening wouldn't automatically negate all my criticisms of Yamatos handling as a prospective crewmember.

While it's important to admit when you're wrong, there is something in your post that I have seen multiple times in online discussion that I just can't agree with. And that is that "being right" inevitably means that one "had a point". Peeple can come to right conclusions even if their reasoning was flawed and people can come to ultimately wrong conclusions even if their arguments where well thought out.

One Piece's storytelling is based on Oda's decisions and no obejective laws of nature. If I make an argument for Sakazuki joining the strawhats that argument would blatantly go against pretty much anything we have seen so far in the series. And my point is that Sakazuki actually joining the strawhats eventually would not make any of the arguments made today for that to happen any better.

I say this as someone who honetly really likes Carrot, I would sincerly prefer her as a crewmate over atleast 3 of the strawhats so far. And I really believed she had good chances during the Whole Cake Island arc but the way Oda presented her during Wano has changed my opinion about her joining and even if the ends up as a permanent strawhat that does not change the way Oda has used her from the beginning of Wano til now.

What Deicide underscores is that Oda has shown us a bond between Yamato and Momo. He has only told us about a bond between Yamato and Luffy. 'Show, don't tell' is one of the biggest rules in storytelling.

That bond is their between Yamato and Momo? The two habe known each other for minutes. Yamato took care of Momo because Momo is Oden's son and because Luffy said so. Momo han's done anything to earn Yamato's respect. From Momos perspective Yamato protected him for a gew minutes and then left because helping Luffy fight Kaido was more important to Yams.
Between Luffy and Yamato their relationship is completely one sided but it's based on who Luffy is. The things Yams learned from Ace and the yctions that Luffy did to get here. A lot of people downplay Yams respect for Luffy because it came before those tow actually met but that's part of what makes Yamato joining unique and special.
When Luffy met Zoro he was a nobody, of course he had to prove himself to Zoro first but now years have passed. Luffy is a big name, he has a reputation, he is called the fifth yonko. Why wouldn't their be someone who want's to join him before ever meeting him? That's a different type of relationship that sets Yamato apart form the rest of the crew and demonstrates Luffy's progression. Why wouldn't Oda want do explore that?

A character arc is meant to make a character change. Viewpoints change, actions leave consequences, knowledge and wisdom are gained…

Judging Yamato’s start is not as important as trying to predict where he will be when Wano concludes.

So in the series that is all about fullfilling your dreams, Yamato will just stay on the sidelines and play babysitter for the child emporer protected by an entire nation of samurai?
And when will Luffy come to the realization that wanting to be the pirate king is kinda selfish when he could actually use his eupreme haki to directly help the slaves of the world nobles? I mean Luffy would be a really flat charcter if his goals and viwpoints woudn't cange over the course of the story.

Yasopp was first? Hmm…That's a good point. Is there information on when Beckman was recruited? There is a significant difference in approach for the 2nd recruit to a late recruit.

That's quite the journey in recruiting for Shanks' officers.

Shanks was in Loguetown during Roger's execution. Maybe he stayed in the Eastblue until he recruited Yasopp and started his crew.
Although from the timeline we were given that would be 2 years of not doing very much.

Silly question but with Yamato likely fighting Kaido soon, how well are people here expecting him to peform against his dad?

Most One Piece fans seem to agree that Zoro will always be the strongest fighter in the crew (besides Luffy). But if Yamato would be able to stall Kaido for a while, it could be argueed that he is stronger then Zoro or atleast on a similar level.

Would being stronger then Zoro change Yamato's chances to join the Crew?

Don't actually believe this will happen but this was the first time I actually dreamed about future events in One Piece so might write it down in case it becomes true.

Regardles how the Srawhats battle against the Yonko on Wano end, CP0 will capture the beaten/tired out Strawhats and bring them to Marijoa for execution and interragation by the 5 Elders and Im. This will lead to the Strawhats meeting Vegapunk before escaping.

Lafitte is way too prominent of a character to end up fighting Brook. He's the person we've seen the most of in the BB pirates (besides Teach himself) by far. Also hypnotism isn't that rare of a power for non DF powered people in One Piece, so it doesn't have to be tied in with his fruit.

Brook has his underworld/kinda demonic theme, while Laffitte cane grow angel like wings which sets a great contrast visually.
Brook used to be a guardsman from a kingdom in the Westblue, while Laffitte was a sheriff in the Westblue. I woudn't even be suprised if we found out that both came from the same island, looking who their clothing styles (pre-timeskip) were kinda similar.
Both have limited mind control abilities and Lafittes cane being a shikomizue, which was the typical weapon for gouverment agents like policeman during the meji period, seems likely.
I am always suprised how often Lafitte is paired with Nami for little reason. It seems so obvious to me that he fits Brook so well, almost as much as Usopp/Auger and Chopper/Doc Q.

Nami imo seems more likely to end up with Devon

• Oda has always paired Nami with other women
• Nami uses a staff, Devon a Spear.
• Devon could very well be a reference to the devonian period in geology, hinting at rock/earth based powers which would perfectly contrast Nami with her weather manipulation. (Sky versus earth)

But your whole post was basically 'she is interesting, with development she could be a candidate'. The problems are:

1. If she has the development we can talk, now it's too early.
2. She HATES the Straw Hats.
3. The things you said about her also apply for many other characters.
4. Absolutely no hints were given that she will join.
5. She never met anyone from the crew except for Zoro.
6. and so on.

1. I agree. I dont think its wise to bring Bonney up at this point of the story. Until we see her again it makes little sense arguing about her. I wouldnt have brought her up but unfortunatly she is currently a topic here so I wanted to share my opinion.

5. True, can change. I would never say she apears and joins one chapter afterwards. When she joins, there will be interaction with luffy and his crew before it happens.

Again, I dont want her to be discussed here at the moment but I also dont want her supporters here to be seen as horny trolls like the fans of that other pink haired caracter… even if they have no sense for timing. Thats why I initilally posted here and cause I like Bonney, if she joins or not. Probably my last post here for the moment. Everything is said about Bonney and I dont see any viable options at the moment.
