I am gathering words which are commonly used in one piece anime.
So this way when i see the episode which has not been subbed yet i can understand it better.
Here are the words so far. please help to increase it or correct it if i am wrong

Some of you will think that my japananese sucks, thats also true, so i am learning and limiting my skill to dialogs spoken in One Piece only. For now i am content with the pattern which i hear in almost all episodes of my favourite show. And will increase this list

A couple others commonly used are sugoi (awesome, cool, etc.), nakama, and ou (king). Also, san can refer to either a man or a woman, and is respectful. It's essentially the equivalent of 'mister' or 'miss'. Chan is a term of endearment, typically directed towards a woman or young person, and I believe kun is a more respectful way of saying san, and is typically used when refering to someone who is higher in rank or class than you are (as in a boss or leader). Iiya is a word for yes if I'm not much mistaken, and I think kessa is 'stole' or maybe 'this morning'. I'm not sure though.

Aniki is like saying "bro". If you're gonna say brother, you should use "Nii-san", "Nii-chan", or "Nii-sama".

-chan is not just used for girls. It's a term of affection or endearment. -chan can mean male or female.

ita means ouch. Coincidentally, it also means plank.

Nani means What. Namda, not Nanda means "What the hell?!"; it's used in place of nani if there's confusion.

-san is a polite address to a person, male or female. In order from most polite to least polite, it's Domo or Dono, Sama, San, Kun, then Chan. Most people use Kun if speaking to friends or equals. San is used to address someone superior, and Domo/Dono and Sama are archaic and usually were reserved to address nobility (Like Shogun and Samurai).

Dare wa desu ka is "Who are you?"

chan is informal and casual. It's usually used for girls, but it can also be used for young boys in some cases. -kun is more often used for boys. -san is a formal suffix used for both men and women.

I think matte means more "moment" or "minute". It's usually said "chotto matte" to mean "wait a minute!".

Anytime you hear "nan" it's some form of what. You would need to understand a bit about Japanese grammar to know which is used when.

I'm not a Japanese speaker, but I have observed as such.

I'll just add in my own two cents for what they are worth, mostly it coincides with what the rest say, but since I have taken Japanese lessons in the past, this is from my experience.

-kun is mainly used for younger males, a female can address a male as -kun, but it either means she is on friendly terms with the boy or is just a friendly person (usually a younger female). It is rare if at all, when a female is address as -kun, it is considered improper, because as I said, it's commonly associated with males. When a female is called -kun, it either means she is a tomboy, or has a male persona and is comfortable with it. -kun, is never or rarely used with older men.

-san, is just a normal way to address a person (i.e. introduction, "This is Tanaka-san"). You would use it also if talking about them in third person. If you are familiar with them, then you might drop the -san and just say their name, but in formal speech it is not considered polite.

-sama is not that archaic, it is used still when addressing someone you respect deeply, or your boss (but they have to be really high, there are other words to use as well for boss but I can't remember now). It's not that common, only in certain situations.

-chan can be male or female (as said above), but I would be very careful when addressing a guy as -chan (most would not like it, even in endearment), unless it is a very young boy. Usually it is used with young females (not usually older women). You would only call a guy -chan if you knew them since childhood and if they still didn't mind to be called that, because -chan, is very childish.

Namda, not Nanda

It doesn't really matter, it sounds the same, but phonetically its usually spelled 'nanda', which means 'what' as in 'what is it?' It can mean 'what the hell', if you are saying it in anger (I usually hear 'nanda to' to really mean 'what the hell'), but usually it's just another way of saying 'what….(put in random expression)'. It's how you take it really.

I normally wouldn't bash anyone for this, but it REALLY annoys me when people do this. You're taking on a know-it-all attitude and saying someone else's Japanese is atrocious, then in correcting them show that yours is just as atrocious. Ita itself is not ouch. You're referring to the adjective itai, which is the adjective for painful. For example, "atama ga itai" = head is painful = headache. It's also used as an exclamation, but rarely without the accompanying い.

Correcting someone to say "namda" instead of "nanda" is erroneous or nitpicking at best. If you look at 何だ in hiragana, なんだ, you see that you're trying to correct someone on the pronounciation of ん as "m" rather than "n". ん is only a nasal sound, but sounds much more like "n" because of the position of the tongue in the mouth. As in, if you make it sound like "namda" you are wrong.

Dare wa desu ka is horrible grammar and doesn't make any sense. You marked a noun with the topic particle but didn't include any clause concerning the topic. A better way would simply be "dare desu ka". "Anata/kimi wa dare desu ka" is alright too, but much less polite.

Actually it's both. I think a boy is more likely to say sugee and a girl is more likely to say sugoi.

I know which word you're talking about, but I don't know what the official romaji spelling is or what it literally means. It's translated so many different ways. Everything from "Oh my god!" to "It can't be!".

There's also "mattaku" (Kokoro says it a lot), which means literally utterly/truly but it's uttered as a form of disbelief…like we'd say "really! or "honestly! tsk" or "Indeed!"

I'm still not sure what "mate" actually means...Chotto by itself means "a little" or "just a moment". Mate isn't in my dictionary. :/

Take anything I say with a grain of salt. I'm just waiting for people to correct me. I want to be corrected if I'm off just a little.

"Teme" is just a rude way to say "you", actually. I think "yaro" would be closer to meaning bastard. They're both used in that sense, though.
And kuso is shit. It's literally excrement. You could also just translate it "crap" or "poop". It's not such a taboo word like "shit" in English.

japanese is just like any other language,there are tons of ways to say 1 thing.although i'd say its the hardest among what i've tried(japanese,english,chinese) because it has a lot of "exception" cases and is rather complicated.

matte comes from the base word machi masu,which means to wait
changing the -chi to -te,it becomes matte,which means asking someone to wait.basically '-te form' means asking someone to do something(more like offering,no forceful intention)

Sugoi is the plain/regular form of the word meaning "amazing, etc" Sugee is just the more casual/slang way of saying it.

You've got them reversed. "Gyojin" is the word Oda invented, which means "Fishman." "Ningyo" is just the all-purpose word for mermaids.

…I should say, though, that I'm kinda mystified about this topic. For something like this, you're far better served by actually studying the language than learning random words that appear in your favorite series. By learning the language, you can concentrate instead on the series-specific vocabulary that doesn't show up in your average reading. Simply memorizing buzzwords leads to the Dark Side… Japanglish.

Also, someone said the suffex "san" is for boys or girls. I thought "son" was male and "san" was female.?

No. Its use in modern Japanese is akin to "all right!" but it literally just means "good."

More specifically, "yoshi" is the shuushikei (terminal form) of the adjective now pronounced "ii" or "yoi." The word "yoki" (used for rhetorical effect) is the old rentaikei (attributive form) of the same word.

FWIW, both the shuushikei and rentaikei of adjectives have been reduced to the same form, ending in "-i," in modern Japanese. The endings used to be "-shi" for the former and "-ki" (sometimes "-shiki") for the latter. The ren'youkei (continuative / adverbial form) ends in "-ku" in both classical and modern Japanese.

Actually, Kaigun means "Navy." "Kaiheitai" means "Marine Corps," but in One Piece, this is only used to refer to groups of soldiers, not the entire organization. (This follows the pre-modern organization of western armed forces, where marines were a part of the Navy, not separate from it.) "Kaihei" refers to a naval soldier or "marine."

"Urusei" and "ussei" (as well as "ussai") are colloquial / casual pronunciations of the Standard Japanese "urusai." Modern Japanese adjectives have no imperative form, and classical Japanese only got around this limitation by appending the verb "aru" to the ren'youkei (adverbial -ku form). Using "urusai," this would come out to "urusakare," but that looks exceedingly strange (not to mention that you'd be telling them to be noisy, instead of to shut up).

"Nouryoku" means "ability." "Nouryokusha" literally means "person with an ability," though in One Piece, this implies someone who has powers brought on by eating a Devil Fruit. They have Devil Fruit abilities, thus they are "Nouryokusha." The usual fan translation of "Devil Fruit user" is a gloss because a literally-translated phrase would be too unwieldly for the 5-mora, 3-character word it is meant to replace.

What are the Japanese words for Robin's nicknames of the crewmembers, I know Zoro is Kenshi-san, and Usopp's is Hanamichi-kun, but I don't know the others.

I thought usopp's was nagahana-kun… maybe I'm wrong
