Shichibukai = seven deadly sins

I remember there being a thread where everyone was guessing which strawhat was which of the seven sins. There are more than seven crew members, so it wouldn't work. The Shichibukai however seem to represent them well..

Let's see

Mihawk=sloth: he's bored all the time lol

Crocodile=greed: he's a greedy crocodile. He's got money, a casino, a pimp jacket and a golden hook. Dispite this, he wants freakin pluton!

Jinbei=pride: assuming he's like Arlong. Pride is said to be the most dangerous sin, so that could make him the strongest of the shichibukai.

Doflamingo=envy: come on, we all know the new age guys are jealous of the real pirates. If you look at his flag, it's a got a smile (probably representing Roger's smile) and it's crossed out. Also he seems very snake-like. Snakes represent envy.

Barthamew Bear=wrath: bears represent wrath. I can imagine Barthamew destroying a whole island just because someone accidently stepped on his foot.

that leaves lust and gluttony. One of the shichibukai is gonna be really fat lol.

Usopp - Pride, his lies
Robin - Wrath, Franky would probably fit Wrath better, but Robin does get pretty dangerous.. I guess Robin is the only one who doesnt fit. She was a member of Baroque Works though, so that adds to the wrath.

Temperance: Mihawk because he doesn't really seem to enjoy anything

Diligence: DoFlamingo? He seems to be working hard at establishing the New Age.

Quite an interesting theory. I would have put Crocodile as Pride though. Doflamingo also strikes me as a more-Greed-like character, simply because of his desire to bring about a New Age and his overly-flashy way of dressing.

EDIT: Also, if Jinbei really is a whaleshark he could easily be Gluttony - they do eat a f**k-ton of plankton.

Only one problem right now. Crocodile is an ex-Shichibukai. If Blackbeard gets the posito,n you have to remove Crocodile once the other's are all revealead, but Blackbeard is definatly fat and likes food.

Dude, if he can injure shanks and walk away without a scratch, it's pretty obvious that it's not fat, it's muscle. Plus, we've seen his stomach, and it's not flabby. Blackbeard is definitely Sloth.

…Sorry couldn't resist :). But it certainly is an interesting theory, and I see how it can work for both the straw hats and the Shichibukai (Though having a 8th crew member of course throws things off).

But with Blackbeard now I can see how he would fit into greed. The man is attempting to rise to power and gain a very high-end position. He stabbed whitebeard in the back so that he would get a chance at the big time. Sounds like greed to me.

I just noticed something. Say the 7 of them do represent the 7 sins. That means there can only be one for each sin. If Croc is bumped off, and his sin is greed, that's what Blackbeard has to be. Otherwise, a power-struggle might occur. Gluttons vs. Enviers ftw.

DonFlamingo isn't pride, that's for sure. He didn't care about Skypiea at all [yeah, you can say it's not connected to pride, but when I compare him to Bellamy I can't ignore it]. Dunno what he is though.
Croc's not pride either. He's definitely greed. Yeah, he might have took his shichibukai level too seriously to mock every pirate who is not, but I think that's because his change from the PK dream to Pluton.

Actually the "7 Deadly Sins" were invented by the Roman Catholic Church, probably in order to do the same thing they always tried to do: ruin Christianity. The 7 sins are not listed anywhere in the Bible, and neither are the "cardinal virtues". Popes have always pretended like they have the authority of God, so throughout the centuries the Church has invented their own crap in order to replace the Bible, not to show what it says.

The Catholic Church tells people that if you're not a Catholic you can't be saved, and you need a priest, and a Pope, and a little cross to wear around your neck, and you need to basically depend on them to "save" you… even though the Bible clearly shows that all you need is faith and prayer.

Anyway, don't want to rant here, but I'm asking that you please do NOT confuse Catholic crap with the actual Bible. They are VERY different.

As for this theory... I like the idea.

See? Oda can put almost anyone there, so why should the person who replaces Croc replace his sin too?

There's no way Donquixote is Sloth, dude. He went all the way to Jaya from whatever he's doing in the New World to beat the ever-loving crap out of Sarquiss and kill Bellamy for their incompetence.

As for their naming in Fullmetal alchemists, that's because it's allusion to how they died/their attitude in the manga. The anime does not count.

Envy is a very very ugly homunculus in his true form, and he envies the appearance of others. He's still alive as of current time in the manga.

! King Bradley And is a very angry individual. He's a man who's not afraid to kill and has no regard for other's feelings, even his fellow homunculus. The only person he takes orders from is Father.

And Pride has not been seen yet, we've only heard him talking. He could be anyone. But he seems to be a de-facto leader in addition to Father.

In One Piece, Crocodile is Envy, obviously. He owned everything and wanted more. He's jealous of the other Shichibukai who are evidently more powerful than he is. Sloth is probably B. Bear, since he doesn't seem to say or do much. Probably a lazy fellow that's also incredibly powerful. Mihawk is Envy, because he considers everyone weaklings and thinks no one is above him. Jimbei is probably gluttony because Whale Sharks irl eat a crapload of food. Blackbeard is also Envy because he wants to have it all… the fame, the fortune, the recognition that comes with being a Shichibukai. He also seemed jealous of Luffy for having such a high bounty.

Another thing you could add to cement Lust as representing lust is

! the punishment given to those who are sent to hell for it…they are thrown around by powerful winds and therefore can never control their direction. Which is similar to Lust, in that she seemed (IMO) to want to be free of control and live her own life. She basically died while still remaining Father's puppet (Dante's in the anime). That point was more emphasized in the anime rather than in the manga, as far as I can recall (I don't remember much of the FMA manga, haven't read the older chapters in such a while). But, just wanted to chip in my two cents, you know, to show how bitching awsome and smart I am ;)

On Topic: I highly doubt the SB represent a sin. The sins are meant to reflect day to day immorality in everyday living, and are commited by normal people. The SB are/were/are criminals anyways, so their representing any sin is pointless, because as criminals, they individually probably have commited all seven of them already. Look it…Croc has greed, murder, and pride (maybe lust as well) already, DonFlamingo has murder, pride, maybe wrath, Mihawk has pride and murder (sloth to an extant), heck, all the SB most likely have pride, murder, and greed attached to them.

It works in FMA because the Homunculies' characters are setup somewhat to represent each sin, and follow a defining sin characteristically (that didn't come out right sorry).

He could be around wrath too. I mean, he did all he did [going to Jaya, doing what he did at Jaya] only because Bellamy did something wrong that COULD be fixed. He even said he loved his personality, but he still took care of him.

We, or at least I, are matching them because there is a possibility of it being that way, and it helps foreshadowing alot of stuff. Like, the rest of the Shichibukai, future actions, etc.
