Request for sub scripts

Hi!

Just ignore this if it is too much hassle, I don't want to be any bother, but I was just wondering if it was a simple task, you might be able to put the subtitles for the recent episodes as txt files somewhere on the website, or post it on a forum post?

I am currently travelling for a year, and can only get net in cafes. Youtube takes absolutely ages to upload the eps (about 1hour for 1third of an ep, a long time when ur paying for every minute/have to sit on computer and wait) but there is a guy who uploads low quality (but watchable) raws which play realtime, and it would be great to watch these with the subtitles next to them!

how is looking at the words in a file any different from looking at them at the bottom of the screen when you watch the ep… (thievery-wise that is)

all i want to do is watch the ep and understand the words... and if someone really wanted to "steal" the hard work, couldn't they just copy down the subtitles.

Scripts are kept in a vault and only higher members of crew have access to them.

I'll tell you right now that you will definitely not be able to get your hands on one of K-F's scripts so don't even bother asking.

I know this, because I'm K-F crew.

As for other subbers, who knows.

BTW, the reason you're getting derogatory responses from people is because subbers are VERY protective of their scripts.

Actually, being an ass just turns off the victims of the ass, making the victims pissed off and having a chance of ignoring the ass completely, in my experiences; so asses basically get their fun and nothing else they might hope to achieve. Unfortunately I'm not 100% perfect regarding these matters myself, but it's pretty easy for me to say these types of things when the matter is not so serious. Logic is fun.

as I made clear at the start, I didn't know the magnitude of my request, and now that I understand, no problem, il just wait.

The reason I made this request, which I obviously didnt make clear enough at the beginning (well, clear enough for a certain individual anyways) was that the adc subbed eps that have been uploaded onto youtube, when in asia, take about 1 hour for part 1 of 3 to be ready to watch, an hour for 7 mins of video, and a lot of the time it doesnt work. I dont know if thats because the internet is so poor over here (in vietnam atm) or if its just because youtube is based in western countries or whatever, but anyhoo, i found someone who had uploaded the raws and it only took about 5mins to load them, which was why I gave this request.

anyways, i guess this thread should be closed now, as it just seems to have become a big mess, haha

and i completely understand about the whole keeping to yourself the script files etc, makes sense.

Sorry for not replying sooner Rowzer, this thread seems to have completely passed by me. ^^;

Unfortunately, we don't give out our scripts. Don't take it personally, it's just our preference to keep the scripts within the team, and the team only. The only other option I could possibly see is finding RMVB versions of our episodes or something. Anyone know if there are any floating around the internet?

Oh, you may also want to try crunchyroll.com, which has a huge archive of streaming anime, including One Piece. It works in a similar manner to YouTube, but for anime, but who knows, it may end up being faster for you. :happy:

Also, I'd like to apologise for UNKNOWNFILE's actions. Perhaps he didn't mean to come off as such a dick? =\

I dont personally understand the secrecy about the scripts, i could watch an episode and type the scripts at the same time easily(about 100 WPM typing speed) But i dont have any say in the matter and it is a decision for the fansubbers to make.(no i wouldn't do that because it is basically stealing someone elses work, even though fansubbing is illegal to begin with… no, lets not get into this)

On a side note to Wikio and ADC, i'm glad to see you guys back on top with speed, and as always, kick ass quality.

A kind of roundabout way to watch one-piece:

Get a friend with a fast connection(in north america or wherever) to download the torrents then burn a few DVD's and mail them to you. That will take a few days( or week(s) depending on shipping) i would think, but you'll have a much better experience at the end of it and you wont be limited by you net connection in any way.

Eh? UNKNOWNFILE was a good part of the AP community, at least that's what I saw. I do what he does a lot, except appearing calmer and being more subtle. So subtle that no one can report me! MUAHAHAHA! Though you should go back in time and see what he contributed to us. Dub Piece for download, anyone?

If subbers released the scripts (the subtitles files) those of us that do not care about fx could watch the episodes sooner with the raws because the encoding wouldn't be needed, and we wouldn't have to download the episode twice. Translations to other languages could be easily made to spread OP around the world (I would translate them to spanish gladly). Someone could pick them up and improve them (specially the old ones!) or fix them, or someone could do the fine-timing on slow weeks. Someone could provide special releases with alternative formats. Handicapped people could use their special speech software or use bigger fonts. And… have you tried to see fansubs on a small tv? We could set bigger font size when watching them on TV, or push the subs to the black zone if your screen is 4:3. And we wouldn't lose quality with reencodings (unless you are using some trick involving filters or something). All of this giving due credit! People does fansubs to get love and nobody is gonna get a lot of love taking credit for the works of others on the internet.

I wish they realized that it can be "stolen" anyway, and everybody is going to go to the fansubbers website eventually because they would appear there faster anyway. It's how it works with the open source comunity. The source code of firefox is public and nobody has "stolen" it still. Why would anyone do it? Almost everybody knows where to get the latest version! Are you worried that 1% of your public is fooled into thinking that other people did the script? Plus you could use some kind of open source license that forbids legally to alter the credits if you feel like (personally I think that would be useless given the nature of fansubs).

Every week in apforums Battle Franky provides us with spoilers and raws (god bless him) and people usually joint spreads or clean them. How would you feel if BF used some sort of write protection on the raws so people doesn't "steal" his work? Doesn't people thank BF anyway? Isn't the point of this to share something?

Maybe "stealing" was a problem at some point in the past, but today, (thanks to google mainly) the chain of trust appears to be more centralized (for example, most of your users read apforums so they would know who does them) so I think you are gonna have the credit anyway. ADC guys: I know you are not going to do it but anyway, it wouldn't harm you trying it for 10 episodes to see what happens.

And btw thanks for everything I've been watching your subs since your first episode. I know some of the things I say may sound illogical to you but I'm confident that the process you are currently using will be superseded by one more open and efficient in the future, I see this happening in a lot of fields. My 2 cents.

Copyright infringement.

The whole western manga/anime scene is built on copyright infringement.

Subs should simply be released in a compiled sub format, with the group's credits at the end. They can be made available perfectly legally from the group's website.

The only downside for the group is that as the sub's filename must match the video's file name, they'll need to tie themselves to the RAW providers.

Plus it's then real easy to provide subs in multiple languages.

It already exists, it is called VobSub, altough it works with .ass and .srt which are in fact simple text files with some special tags. You could modify it to work with a custom binary format but it would be useless, it is under the GPL license (not really sure…), so you would have to provide the source code and someone could easily make a program do reverse the file encryption.

About the scripts, ADC, anyone can get them in 10min, I actually have your scripts with perfect timings for 2 or 3 episodes. I just loaded them in SubRip and used ORC to get them. They are perfectly in sync with the original video. I don't see why all fansubs keep their scripts so secret...
