Sorry if I mix up and tie some stuff together but it makes it easier for me to respond that way.
It's a weird AND stupid idea because:
1. This is a manga about pirates on the high seas, not some god dang nuclear family in a suburban home floating on the water.
2. Grass is a liability.
3. There's no utility from it since Luffy rides on the figurehead and Zoro leans against something.
1. And still in this manga you see the protagonists eat, drink, laugh and do other kinds of stuff once there´s no fighting. The manga being about pirates doesn´t negate the fact to have times/themes to chill out.
2. And? It´s not like without the grass there wouldn´t be liabilities on the ship. Instead of cleaning the deck you probably have mow the lawn.
3. I guess you´re jumping to conclusions too quickly after just seeing one panel with the lawn. Let´s see if there will be a utility for it or not once they actually start to use the ship.
It's a blasted boat.
Once again, its not a home. It's a god dang boat.
I think mixing up the term "home" with "house". A house is a building where people live in and that´s it. It can never be a ship or anything else because that´s a different thing.
A home on the other hand is much wider a term. It isn´t tied to a form but to the sentimental value it has people. A home in fact is the place that a person not only lives in/at but also the place where the person feels like it belongs to. People can call buidlings or even vehicles home. No kidding! There is people that live in just cars (without trailers). Are they homeless? No, they just don´t call a house their home but a car instead.
And a ship being a home is not that different. It accomodates the Strawhats. It was even established in the manga itself when the Strawhats returned from Skypiea that Going Merry was their home. And now they found a new one but it is still the same concept.
I can see where you´re comming from Malintex, but I think that on this field you really mix up home with house.
It's not a dream home. It's a "home away from home"; the Straw Hats have their houses, but since they can't use 'em they're using an inferior, not SUPERIOR, substitute.
Same problem as above. A house can be a home. But a home isn´t limited to just have the form of a house. Superior or inferior has nothing to do with it.
First of all, where did this grass come from? There's been barely any grass in the series, and most of it was at Cocoyashi or Syrup village. There's none in Water 7, so pulling grass out of Oda's arse is just dumb.
How can you say that there is no grass in Water 7? Have you looked inside every building of that large city? I mean even in the real world you can literally by lawn in stores and in a fictional metropolis it shouldn´t be possible? Doesn´t make much sense. It´s not like the amount of lawn on the ship is that big that it can´t be hidden in a building somewhere.
But what really intregues me is what it actually should matter where it comes from? Where did the fridge with the lock come from? Nobody cares, it simply is just there. It´s not like the lawn or the fridge will totally revolutionize One Piece with their existence. It´s not like the remaining Shichibukai, the Yonkoh, Blackbeard etc. will refuse to fight against Luffy from now on because there´s lawn on his ship.
You're going to need to expand on this holodeck issue, since I've got no idea what you're talking about.
Uff, that´s a bit much to ask since it would make this post even far longer then it already is. You might want to check here for an explenation.
No, it's not a dumb idea. I just finished talking with Carter about the implications of the word "gay", but it fits really well in this instance (culture-wise). Grass is the gayest part of One Piece since Mr.2. No, it's gayer than Mr.2.
You know, wrapping around arguments like that only makes you look like you have a personal problem with the grass because you simply don´t like it rather then that there´s a solid fact that speaks for the pointlessness (sp?) of the lawn. I have no problems with personal likes and dislikes and can accept that. But when you say that a ship can´t be a home I have to respond.
