Swimming DF users

When I was thinking about the whole "under-water-thing" according Merman island, I came to the idea, that it should be possible for DF users to swim in lakes or pools or sth like that.
Because the "energy the sea is emmitting" shouldn't be there at all.
Then again there is the question if there are lakes and stuff in One Piece… Personally I only remember one pool (Water 7, chp.433) and because of the islandish structure of the world there don't HAVE to be lakes.

Or could there also be other possibilities for DFs to swim..?

There was also the river in Alubarna that they crossed on Scissors. But I think if the water is free flowing, it has the same effect and makes them sink. Only rainwater doesn't seem to affect them, evidenced because Luffy has gotten drenched by rainwater before and still been able to fight.

Oda once explained the effects of water on DF users. Generally, they can't swim, full stop and get weakened by anything over waist height. I can't remember the full details… Anyone remember which SBS it from? Rain was also mentioned I seemed to recall.

O: First of all, let's discuss the problem of Devil Powered folks bathing themselves. People who eat Devil Fruit are "hated" by the sea, and cannot swim. The "sea" here can refer to anything from rivers, pools and baths to any kind of standing water. On a worldwide level, they are all the "sea." When these people enter the water, not only can they not use their powers, they have trouble moving their bodies at all. They might be able to struggle a bit, but it wouldn't do much good. That's if their entire bodies are submerged in the "sea." With less than half the body or just the limbs, it gets easier. Also, rain and dripping water have no effect at all. Therefore, hip baths or showers are the most common choice. Now, in Crocodile's case, "water" is the weakness of his very powers, so his abilities are robbed even in the shower. But it's not like there are enemies around when you take a shower, so I'd bet he would take them even with his powers being blocked. Don't you think? –-And to answer your final question, about myself bathing. As it happens, I do bathe. Twice! In a year! See you next volume!

Oda said something about water powered DF users. If he "were" to make something like that he would just go as far as "able to make waterfalls". But more into topic, what if a merman had a df power. Is he/she still able to swim?

Oh man i was about to ask the same question since their might be merman with DF in the next Island, under water woderland… but if i hav to guess... they'll just sink in the ocean but they can breathe... they will be a little immobile too... but yeah... i think they can breathe...

But you know, what about Luffy when he drinks so much water that he swells up like a friggin' balloon?

That seems more than enough water to stop him.

Oda runs this thing called the SBS basicallyt a Q and A collmn with (almost) eahc chaptrer having at least a question or 2. one was about lakes and other freshwater stuff. basically anything besides puddles, rains and showers wll cause weakness, so no getting around that.

how much of strenght a devil fruit lost in water? A merman has ten times the strenght of a normal human….. so he could at least, walk?? or it would be a stupid curse, since he's able to breath... someone could give food to him....... maybe toei will do some of this idea, would be fun!^^

I think a DF Fishman or Merman would just die or be a Fishman or Merman that can't swim… Pretty pointless either way. They pretty much would be an outcast to their race which ever of the two races they came from.

They lose their ability to swim or move in water, but their powers are not lost. So basically, they'd be a statue at the bottom of the ocean, because they couldn't walk to the shore.

An outcast huh? Maybe this would be a clue of mermanjoining the mugiwaras. Not accepted by society, so joins someone who actually cares about him/her.
