I just got a good deal on a really nice flatscreen monitor. I'm planning on getting a new computer in the near future, but I decided to get the monitor first while I could. Problem is, I still have the old computer. While I expected that I wasn't really going to get much out of the monitor with the old computer, one thing I didn't consider is that my old video car doesn't support widescreen aspect ratio - so the screen is stretched.
Is there by any chance some kind of bypass to make the screen not so stretched? Or do I just have to deal with it until I get the new comp?
Widescreen monitor + old video card = d'oh

You might try going into display properties (right click desktop, "properties")
Settings -> advanced -> Monitor -> deselect "Hide modes the monitor can't support".Manually select the desired mode.
With this setting, I can even get modes like 1920x1080 on a decidedly 4:3 CRT.

Meh don't feel too stupid. I unplugged my old mouse today, and plugged in the new one, but Logitech needs to be installed first. So I ended up doing the entire installation with my keyboard.
What Bount1Berry said, that will likely do it. Otherwise just plugi n your old one, shine your widescreen moniter, and put it in a safe, clean place for a few months.

Hm, are you sure that using a mode that the monitor doesn't support is a safe idea? I don't know if it'll give me any widescreen options anyway.
