I bought Ratchet & Clank 3 from a video game store as a new. I enjoyed it greatly - actually I thought it was pretty incredible - but suddenly after playing the game around 13 hours the game just stops working. I boot the game few times but still, it's not working. Then I decided to take a good look at the CD. A scratch! I never took the CD away from my PS2, not even once. So, somehow, the game got the scratch while it was inside the machine. The store isn't taking the game back and I'm not buying it again just to play it few more hours. Only thing I can do is to utter watered down curses.

I figured, as it's a loss/loss situation anyway, to ask if anybody knows any magical tricks to fix a scratch. I heard toothpaste works (yeah right).

actually, I heard of tooth paste too. You can buy special stuff at a cd store like HMV. There are also special "grinder" machines. don't ask me where to find those. My friends took theirs to a little movie store that had one. Their scratch was too deep to fix though. (really bad scratch)

I saw the grinders for sale at Best By a loooong time ago.

Wanted one but never got it. Haven't seen em since.

EDIT: Did you try requesting the Warranty to be put to use? 13 hours of gameplay is a couple days a few at worst, Warrant yis like, what, a month to 3 months?

No matter how Silly it sounds, it's true. But it may depend at times though. Like a really deep scratch, apparently to what Captain Usopp's friend's disc has suffered.

            1. Get Toothpaste (not gel)
            2. rub toothpaste on cd or anything else you have a scratch on.
            3. continue rubbing until evenly distributed and thoroughly gone (ie no huge globs)
            4. wash away toothpaste
            5. the scratch should be gone or lessened. Continue method until not visible from the top (you're not looking at it at an angle)

It'll still be there, but now it's smoother, because the stuff in toothpaste that grinds against your teeth smoothed it enough so that it doesn't bump when your console reads it.

I reccomend having Best Buy's Geek Squad take a look at it.

They do sell disc scratch removers. But toothpaste would be cheaper if it actually works.

Okey. So I tried the toothpaste. I repeated the whole thing few times and even I tried to use different brands but I haven't noticed any real improvement. Actually I think I made it worse 👅. Well, heck, it looks like it's well past the point of fixing. It will make a nice frisbee.

There is a game shop near me that has a scratch removing machine, they put the disc in the slot and 3 minutes later it's brand new. It cost me 3 pounds and was definetly better than buying a new copy. You should ask around your local game stores see what they say.

One time at my local Wal-Mart store, I found whipes that remove scratches on CDs. I don't know how common these are, though. It's best just to ask a CD expert or go get help at a store.

Okay, what you need to do, is get a giant lazor gun, then–

Seriously tho. Just goto Best Buy or something, it'll get fixed.

Today, I learned that toothpaste isn't just for your teeth.

Did you use gel toothpaste? I did that when I was a kid and that made it a helluva lot worse.

Course, the scratch may have been a bit to deep, so… :ermm:
