One Piece fights original? Most original fights.

I'm not that well-versed in other fighting shows similar to One Piece, nor am I familiar with DBZ (at all), so I was wondering if anyone could share their opinions of whether or not most of the fights are something unique, original, and/or fun to watch even for a fighting guru.

Also, examples would be cool.

My hypothesis is that they're mostly all original :o
I guess it depends on how good the context is, which is really all the background I can go by. There are so many weird powers. Any other interesting experiences with OP fights, regarding similarities from other series, are welcome.

Fights here can be very original in nature. IMO a good example is CP9.

Each member of CP9 essentially all have the same six moves (Rokushiki). But each member of the group has adapted those six moves in ways that suit them individually. Every CP9 can use Kami-E to dodge moves. Only Fukuro used Kami-E Slime. Every member can do Tekkai, only Jyabura can move while its in use. Kaku combined his Rokushiki with sword-wielding, and so on.

Though each character was a Rokushiki user, each one's fight with their straw-hat went very differently.

Essentially, what makes fights unique in One PIece isn't so much the moves as it is the people who use them. Lightning men, super speed, weapons up the wazoo. These aren't uncommon, but the characters who use these moves are what make them different from the rest.

The abilities range from being able to open doors in time and space to turning to smoke.

One Piece has the most original fights ever.

Especially with the inclusion of Rokushiki, I've never seen anything like that before.

Also, the Zoan fruits make animal-fighting so much cooler. Not that I think cockfighting is actually cool, but what with characters like Kaku and Dalton, Oda's made it awesome, in the manga sense of course.

The fact that Zoro wields three swords is very original. And who could have thought to use soap as a power…..(califa)

And what aboout the K9 Bazooka? i think that is very original and the elephant sword

It's kind of original.

It "never" follows the classic outline of a typical Shounen, that either goes like "two equal people good leik vs badd" or "one kicking the others ass" or… "first one kicks arse,, lolol!1! then one beatng backk!"

It's totally different from that.

I personally like fights that are pretty even. And for a while now, SH have been dominating. I haven't ever felt that they could ever lose, which is what I don't like. Not to mention Squirrel Girl Nami w/Job Aura.

However the fights are original tho. Oda creates some really unique and odd power, so Kudos to him for that. I expect even better from this upcoming arc, so I know he can do it.

One piece is also creative, though I have to disagree with garra d. lucchi, I think the enies lobbys people were totally even againist luffy and co., they weren't horribly outmatched or horribly had the advantage like some shonen manga. I think the most even fight this far was zoro vs kaku.

It was technique after technique, each failing until one finally pulled ahead at the last moment and put their trump cards on the table.

Jojo's here too, but One Piece fights are great and entertaining, theres a good mix of badassedness, strategy, cool moves, and originality to all these fights. Like some one mentioned, THE GIRAFFE FRUIT! Oda doesn't seem bound to any particular predictableness as far as choreography, And Oda's own nature of physics (as discussed on other threads) plays greatly into the scheme of things. I mean I actually remember whole fights and each and every step and momentum swing in each One Piece fight, can't say that for other mangas though. I look at Bleach which is typical recycled garbage as far as shonen fights go, then I look at One Piece and feel so much better. I'd like to add that in other mangas, there is no way that Usopp would of even stood a chance, or do as many cool things as he did in his fight with Luffy or someone of his caliber, but in One Piece it worked great!

Oda has a way with breaking away from shonen stereotypes and repetetive ideas. Each fight is different from any other manga I've read. Luffy vs. Bleuno was probably the most unique One Piece fight, since it introduced Gear 2. Despite how Dragonball Z-ish the idea seemed (Super Saiyans, super-fast speed), how Luffy used it made the fight so original.

As im sure some already agree, Everything action oriented from anime/manga to blockbuster movies must have some originality too there battles, otherwise they become boring and cliche.

A good way too do it is too create a certain style or guidline your shows(or mangas) fighting scenes can evolve from and continue being original. One Piece suceeds in creating that fun fighting style that doesnt copy too much from anyone, is easy too add new innovative techniques to and is still (arguably) as interesting now as it ever was.

Does it do it the best f^&* no, but its not that far from the top.

One Piece features a cross dressing ballerina who used transsexual kung fu, a man wearing pasta armor, a reindeer colossus, an iron jawed Kirby wanna-be, a clown pirate who can split up his body, a man with explosive snot rockets, and a boxing match (complete with luffy in an afro). And that just barely scratches the surface.

Original? I’d wager to say… yes.

One of the things that makes the series so damn fun is that Oda created a world where someone using fists (or feet) (or slingshots) can fight evenly against someone with swords or guns or metal bodies. In the world of One Piece power fights power, regardless of the method used to channel it.

No, he's talking about when Chopper gave Franky fruit juice and he tried to punch Fukuro with it. Technically, though, that wasn't making up a move, that was Franky reacting to the wrong fluid in his system.

Jojo never really had fights from what I've seen, at least not in the same sense of One Piece. It's usually just one challenge presented to Jojo's group, and they must overcome it. I don't remember everything I've read though, and I only read up to volume 5.

However One Piece has the best fights I've seen. Sanji VS Bon Clay still reigns #1 on my Top 5 Fights list. It's a fight where it's pure action, and when they stand on their hands and start kicking, it's just like, "Oh hell yeah!".

Oda also mixes up humor into his fights well. Tons of times character's will performs stupid, or ridiculous moves just to make you laugh. Kaku's whole fight was full of them. The pasta machine and the square move come to mind. Oda just has very innovative and new ideas. Is he the most original? From what I've read, yes. He makes fights even sided most times, or makes them interesting. Nami VS DoubleFinger wasn't very even sided, but it was still an amazing fight. I haven't read every story with fights ever though, so perhaps Oda isn't the most innovative and original. Still, Okama Kempo, Coop de Poo, Giraffe Man, Three Sword Style, Soap Woman, and Cloud Sword are some of the most interesting, hilarious, and well done ideas I've ever seen.

Oh, that. I remember now.

I don't know about the fights being fun to watch/read for a fighting guru though- after all, most of the techniques in One Piece defy normal physics (e.g. Geppou) but then again they're good inspiration.

I haven't seen JoJo's bizarre adventure's, besides the videogame. But One Piece has the most original fights that I've seen, Luffy is just so unpredictable, you never know what he'll do next. Like Bone Balloon, I definitely didn't see that coming, and I've seen a decent amount of anime.

The only real thing I dont like about one piece fights, specifically luffy's, that they don't focus the chapter on the fight. Yes I am ok with changing it up once and a while, though if you look at alabasta round 3 there wasn't one chapter deticated or at least most of the chapter to luffy vs crocodile. It makes it hard to follow sometimes, especially when you just want to glance the cool fight in the tankoban.

Other then that I am fine with it.

yes because 5 volumes in an 88 volume manga = lots of fighting….0.o

One of my all-time favourite "attacks" are "Bara Bara Emergency Escape" (dunno the japaneese name for it and I think it's anime only but OMG I laughed when Buggy did that in his fight with Luffy :P).

I was wondering how you could possibly think Jojo didn't have a lot of fights, and there it is - you only read up to volume 5. From the beginning of Part 3, they defeat (on average) at least one guy every volume.

Jojo has the most original fights. No contest. One Piece doesn't really stray from the Shounen formula, it just utilizes it the best. Jojo, however, is really out there. 2, even 3 on 1 battles are commonplace, and the 2 on 2 battles in Part 5 are just plain awesome.

My apologies. I read the ending to some Jojo related story of Wikipedia and thought the series was close to ending. Quite clearly with 90 volumes, it's not. That's my mistake. But from what I read, that's what I saw. But you should probably igore by opinion since I've only read like, 1/18 of the story… My apologies again.
