I've been thinking for a while now since the Going Merry was counted as a member will the new ship be counted as a member too? Since Franky is joining wouldn't that make the crew count 9? I think Luffy will need only 1 more new person to join to get the 10 people he wants. I figured it out the next member will be the musician. What does everyone think?
Will the new ship be counted as another member?

The Going Merry was not a member of the Straw Hats. The Going Merry was not a nakama when they first got it. It was Usopp's treasure, yes, but it was not a nakama. It was only considered a nakama when faced with countless dangers and survived all of them, with all but a small, crappy repair. Think about it; at first the ship was merely a tool of transportation, but soon, the Going Merry became a sanctuary.
When Zoro/Sanji/Luffy left the ship, they would tell the weaker ones to stay on it and wait. The ship was safe. The ship was heaven. And the ship was home. Each crew member was increasingly drawn to the Going Merry's carefree atmosphere as the show went on. When something happened to the ship, all hands were on deck. When Chopper was attacked in Skypiea, he tried desperatly to protect it.
Also, the ship had potential because; think about it. That ship soared up into the sky. It rode on the clouds, and landing back down into the sea. The ship almost never failed them, and it was always treasured by each crew member in a different way.
The ship was not a crew member.

Like I said. A Nakama. Not a member.
-
As far as I remember, Vivi and Bon Clay are also considered Nakama of the SH, even though they are not active crew members.

Well Going Merry was a ship not a living being, but he was a friend and a crew member but Luffy did say he wanted 10 crew members and a ship

In the general sense of "crew", she was, but in the nautical sense she was not a crew member. However, I think the point is moot; it's been explicitly said in the manga that Merry was a "nakama", so, like Nero being CP9, it's irrefutable fact.
As such, though, I doubt the next ship will be of that same calibur until after the Fishman Isle.
