I've only just started reading One Piece so I'm only up to Chapter 100 and something. Please bear with me.
Anyway, Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in Louge in Chapt 99 when Luffy was going to be "executed", why didn't he try and stop Buggy/Baki/Bagy/whatever?
He's got the stocks on him and Luffy's like, "I have an itch and I can't scratch my nose." And I'm thinking, 'its times like that that you wish you could just….stretch your finger? Wait a minute, why isn't he stretching?'
I had just finished the Arlong arc and was getting pretty used to Luffy using a stray limb to do something crazy, so why not at Louge? Was he trying to prove something?

Anyway, it's driving me crazy so if anyone has any ideas, please let me know.
Also, but not nearly as perplexing, why did Arlong's crewmate Chuu say Chu with a heart all the time?
      Cheers!

I think Luffy needs the momentum to stretch. He needs to pull back the limb he wants to stretch. Or, he just didn't care if he was going to die.

Yeah, he has to be able to "throw" his limbs, basically. He's not from the Mr. Fantastic/Plasticman/Elastigirl school of "asti" superpowers where you can contort your body into anything and hold it. That would be vulcanized rubber powers. (I think someone asks in an SBS once if Luffy was vulcanized and Oda said he wasn't).

Yup, but he can also relax his limbs, making them look like octopus tentacles (see Ener vs Luffy). But the control of those limp limbs really sucks at that moment.

That scene at Logue town tries to prove that Lufyy can't die yet…it's his fate or something.

But what about when Don Kreig/Creek has him in the net in Chapt 66? Krieg was pulling him down, so how would he get the momenteum to not only extent his legs toward Krieg below him but twist them as much as he did?

I kinda think Luffy was just enjoying the same view that Roger had and didn't really care so much as to what happened to himself.

His arms and legs went up a little, and the momentum from going down helped him.

Perhaps he forgot that he could do it. 😛

Maybe Luffy just thinks that the one place he would be meant to die was in the same way that Roger died, so maybe he thought "hm, maybe this is it?" shrug Dunno, I think the whole point of that scene was that Luffy had no fear of death.

More specifically, "Chuu" is the otomatopoeia for a kiss, and so it more or less defines his character (with the big kissy-lips). But yeah, it's a gimmick, more or less.

Yeah, he kinda cocks his leg as he's speaking in that scene.

well, maybe oda just thought it would be better this way, that's all. but i agree that luffy needs a momentum, even if it's a small one, to stretch his limbs and there wasn't any in that moment.
