The topic says it all, I'm sorting through my emulation station trying to find good 2 player games for these older consoles. Anyone have any suggestions? I'll start with a few of my favorites:
-Contra (3 I think?)
-GUNSTAR HEROES
-Every generic overhead perspective fly-and-shoot game ever made
And yea I'm having a brainfart on any other titles ATM.

Ah, yes. Metal Slug. My cousin got it on an emulator, and it's as fun as hell.
I forgot about Metal Slug. I beaten them all except for 6 (which I haven't gotten to play yet). Those games are like the spiritual successors to Contra. Not to mention Marco kicked ass in Neo Geo Battle Coliseum.

I agree about TMNT:TiT. That is probably one of the most fun you can have with another person in a beat um up.
Also, final fight 1,2,3, Guy are all worthy. Especially because inall those games, friendly "fire" was on so you could kick the other guys ass and laugh about it (that happened all the time with my friend and I in the Punisher game for the arcade. That is a hell of a game.)
All the ones I was going to say have been said (Metal Slug series, Turtles in Time, River City Ransom, Gunstar Heroes).
Oh wait…its not really "retro" (unless you consider Saturn retro) but Guardian Heroes has been one of my favorites to play with friends for years upon years now.
TMNT Turtles in Time SNES
This game is one of the funniest Ninja Turtles' games that I ever played. My brother and I would spend hours just messing around in the levels.
Bonanza Bros and Altered Beast for Mega Drive/Genesis were my favourites as a kid. Both were blast to play with a friend.
Oh, I forgot to mention World Cup Soccer for NES. Even if you don't care for sports it's super fun. It's part of the Nekketsu game series (like River City Ransom) after all, so what else would you expect?
Two words: Double Dragon. Back when we still had an NES, my brother and I had so much fun playing that together.

Oh, and regarding Secret of Mana, and if you have nothing against ROMS, get Seiken Densetsu 3. It's the sequel, and there is a translation patch for it.

Bubble Bobble does indeed rule. Oh yeah, there is a DS version, but all the copies are glitched. They say they are going to fix it though. I'll buy it if they do.

That arcade game was by far the most fun co-op beat-em up game of the time. You could even team up for a super attack! I still pop quarters in whenever I see one.
Simpsons has team up attacks? This I didn't know. Time to get get the rom and try that out.

If you want to play them, either get the ROMS and play them with MAME, or get the MM Anniversary collection.

ok, staying on topic….there's a MM racing game, called battle and chase. It's rare as well. They also came out with a lame board game for the famcom, and a lesser lame soccer game for SNES.

Yeah, I thought they were fun games in short spurts. What was really good about the Arcade Megaman games was the music, that was my favorite part
Also, you speak the truth about the X-men arcade game, it kicks so much ass. I guess XML games would be like a spirtiual successor to the earlier games.

Man, to this day, whenever i get to go to my friend's grandparents house, we always go to the arcade and play the classics (from my perspective). TMNT: Turtles and Time, X-Men and the simpsons. So much fun can be had there. Its better when someone leaves like 20 bucks worth of coins in the machine too!
