I recently had a discussion with some people on irc about different methods of execution, and what would be the most humane way to kill someone, when it occurred to me that sleeping pills would be ideal. They're painless and cheap, which is certainly better than a lot of the execution methods out there (firing squad? >_>), but I've never heard of anyone being executed in this fashion. I don't actually agree with capital punishment, but it seems ignorant not to use the most humane available method to kill someone, especially if it's inexpensive.

interesting fact
Lethal Injection was developed originally by the Lead Nazi Doctor for Hitler and is meant to be used because its easy on the viewers and not because its easy on the person, some people have been misdosed the knockout drug and have been alive as their body was shut off
IMO I don't deem any form of the death penatly more humane than others, I also don't stand for the Death Penatly at all because it doesn't do anything at all but kill a human being, but the faster the death the better.
-
Call me old fashioned, but there's always, you know, not killing people.
-
@Roz:
Call me old fashioned, but there's always, you know, not killing people.
Yeah, execution should really be a last resort thing, for the hopeless, dangerous, and the truely relentless people. We can get let most people live the rest of their lives in jail.
Do you know that lethal injections don't always work? There's a paralyzing agent in some formulas that leaves the victim unable to move but alive.
I saw a public speaker about the death penalty awhile ago. While ironcailly I don't remember her name, she made a good point about exploring both sides of the issue.
After all, some murders have families too. Now while you may think "an eye for an eye," imagine the putting some innocent people through rescheduled or failing executions of their son or daughter? (the latter being rare of course)

Sociopaths
what?
Lock them up?
Seriously those guys are nuts
They'll just go after they're inmates or the guardsand Seriously, nothing to lose
Sometimes the only real thing to do is put em downlike a dog with rabies
if its a different case though just lock em upmeh, Firing squad seems to be less painless
i mean for the most part they all aim for the head, ONE well placed shot does the jobbut 5-10 well place shots?

Well, that would go under the "hopeless and dangerous." Really, if they still kill people even within prison, then execution may be the best thing.
But, so many thing could go wrong in a firing squard. It's a painful way to go anyway, one shot at a time. What if they all miss the head and hit the shoulders and stuff? You risk a slow death there.

Methods of death:
The victim shall be forced to watch gasp ALL OF UWE BOLE'S MOVIES.
or
Sex with Flava Flav
Either way, they lose
-
Sleeping Pills would be ideal, yes, but getting the convicted to take them-that's another matter entirely. The only convicted felon in history that I know of who willingly took poison when it was given to him was Socrates.
As for sociopaths, most of them aren't these mindless killing machines that some people seem to think that they are. Alot of sociopaths aren't even killers-most of them are con artists. Serial Killers-which are typically sociopaths-are a serious threat, and should be taken seriously. In my mind, Ted Bundy deserved execution, not so much for his crimes, but for escaping prison. Locking him up for life would be meaningless if he just kept escaping. Of course, giving him a whole bottle of sleeping pills and a glass of vodka probably wouldn't have worked either. The death penalty is a deterrent only to the person it kills. But sometimes, that's plenty.
-
There's always the ancient Chinese style of execution where the guy is killed thru a thousand tickles until he dies from lack of breath. At least it's more humane
-
Isn't the point of a death penalty the spectacle?
I'm amazed no forward-thinking governor has realised someone, somewhere will pay $29.95 pay per view to see a hanging or beheading.
Besides… those forms of execution allow the condemned to tell the world "The forty bucks in my wallet-- I hid it! Search the world to find it!"
-
I suggest massive amounts of alchohol (or a sleeping inducing drug/morphine if it's against their religion or w/e) followed by poison.
Poison is relatively humane IMO, and although it is painful, it shuts down the system quite effectively if the victim is asleep.
Worst method of execution, public hanging/crucifying; for that matter public anything. All it does is create martyrs and make people feel discontent with the punishers.
-
A good method of execution:
Try putting the criminal in a flashback, if that doesn't kill em, I don't know what will. runs away
-
getting hung on the cross
would just differ from person to personfor example
Me,
if i was on the cross i would be humming the tune "always look on the bright side of life"and admiring the view
i would just be annoyed at the metal spikes driven through my limbs
what about…
Strapped to a Car, and sending it flying off a cliff...
WHILE ON A LETHAL DOSE OF MORPHINESeriously
awsome way to go -

Most people are for more humane executions. I on the other hand, am quite the opposite.
What's the most common crime that results in death penalty? Murder. These criminals kill their victums in ways that are no where near humane.
Cutting off fingers. Pressing face on a hot stove. Breaking bones one by one. Beating with blunt objects. Disection while the victum is still alive. And if the murderer is male and the victum is female, a horrible rape is often involved.
IMO, lethal injections are TOO humane. These disgusting criminals killed innocent people slowly and painfully. If people who never did anything wrong are forced to suffer such a brutal death, shouldn't the crazy, blood-thirsty sicko who caused the innocent death also suffer an equal or worse fate?
I miss the electric chair. It brought such great pleasure to watch those scumbags fry, and listening to their wonderful screams of agony made it even better. Add the fact that they crap their pants upon death, and we've got quite a show!
Eh, call me a cold bastard if you want. But I'd never wish harm on someone who didn't deserve it.

Seriously
People who "TORTURE" their victims in the way the our dear friend pushop described, being locked up?
its fucked upbut pushpop my dear friend
KILLING THEM AT ALL IS TO HUMANE..WE MUST TORTURE THESE SUNNAVA BITCHES
AND LET THEM LIVE
AND TORTURE THEM SOME MOAR!seriously though
their have been some pretty grizzly stuff done to people
and CHILDREN are sometimes victim to thisTo those who Harm such innocents with torture truely deserve The rights?
HELLS NO
do us INNOCENT people have the right to watch the cold blooded wacko in question suffer?
=)
I personally think we should hand the victims family a weapon and lock them in the room with Accused..
oh boy i sound crazy
but i **LIKE IT >:D_skips off merrily to play guitar hero some more_**
-
I'm all for the death penalty. Kicked to death in the crotch or crotch mangling would be somethhing some people here would want.
Hanging, firing squad and al lthem are good enough for me. Or you could just, I dunno, place a pistol right next to their temple. Boom! Headshot!
-
What about the people who are innocent?
Death penalty should just be for crimes against humanity.
-
Did you know that the Guillotine's blade was so sharp that supposedly, the executed died 30 seconds to one minute after being beheaded? There's some french scientists who told how they picked up some criminal's freshly severed heads and called them by their name; the head blinked, and the eyes looked alive and conscious, with a surprised, almost scandalized expression. Pretty cool/horrifying stuff.
-
I'd like to see somebody from the human rights department reply to the messsges in this thread. This is so damn funny…
Speaking of funny. I find it very funny how we should kill somebody by TICKLING HIM TO DEATH. -
death penalty has to be forbidden. who are we to decide to kill someone?
i think that cutting the balls might be a better idea.
-
death penalty has to be forbidden. who are we to decide to kill someone?
Here's a hypothetical:
You see a wanted man, dead or alive. He's wanted for, I dunno, genocide and horrible crimes against humanity. You see a crowbar. What do you do? I say knock him out and send him to his execution.
Death actually IS a solution to some problems. SOME.
-
I couldn't care less for death sentence, I'm not a supporter of it. As long as we live under a full-pocket capitalistic structure with laws, crimes and murders and whatever will be fertile for eternity. It's the overall system that triggers our "beast" side to come to the shore.
Anyway,
I despise as fuck rapists tho. I would gladly take a bite outta one of those filth's heart while decapitating his phallus with my bare hands.
And this is my human weakness.
Nothing is solved with violence, never. Instead of start rampaging here and there, try to think. Is there any stronger trial than that?
But, as a human being, some things I can't stand. -

That makes as much sense as saying without religions there would be WOLD PAECE!!!1
-
I kind of agree with Usopp with a Pushpop. I think that lethal injection is too humane. I mean, people who kill, torture, etc other people shouldn't be killed humanely IMO. I agree with whoever said to lock the killer in a room with their victim's family. That would probably be worse than death. I think that they should bring back the fireing squad, hanging, electric chair, etc.
-
Question: Are you discussing this because of the recent death sentencing of Sadam Hussein?
-
That makes as much sense as saying without religions there would be WOLD PAECE!!!1
All religions, when examined in a theoritical thesis, are linked, and if somebody can derive things from them and act as a vessel for self-improvement (cause the monad factor is pissed and shit today), it's fine. Even if he is more interested in their more "obscure" side.
On the other hand, their material shell today consists of shit, money and blood, and this is what makes them look totally alien one to another. It's inevitable for our ages, don't you think?"WOLD PAECE!!!!1"
The sooner that you understand that our lives are a "war" fought daily against various elements (no matter if I, you, he or she admits it), the better.
Arguing about "WOLD PAECE!!!1!" sucks, anyway, in general. -
Yeah… I'm not sure what this rant has to do with anything, but good for you.
I was just reacting to your assertion that apparently, the cause of murders and crimes was the capitalistic system and laws. Which is absurd and reminded me of these left wing nutjobs I encountered in some french forums who think the ones responsible for crimes are... cops.
-

It was a rant and totally out-of-theme, you're right, so there's no point in bringin it back HERE. It can be discussed though in a great level in certain cyrcles.
As for your… "encounters", well. People choosing sides always end up in brainwashed minds and opinions. At least in Greece, the communist party has shown a fuckin pathetic and fascist facade that made me re-evaluate the purpose of the whole "old socialist values" they keep throwin here and there in our grey age. And I suspect that it's the same everywhere. "Left wing" today is a camouflage, an excuse for a right wing way to force your views on others throat. A swastika is a swastika, no matter if it's red or black.
And as for the crimes theme... It's TOTALLY NATURAL, and psychiatrically proved, that when you have laws bestowed upon your face, you WILL want to break and surpass them, it's the way the human mind works. Capitalism and the whole system forces people (either straightforwardly or between the lines) to accept that they're numbers and digits. Some things such as education, sentimental health or providence can not be economical goods, or they lose their essence.
But anyway. This conversation leads us into this ol' "Ideal world" topic, and it's lame. Nothin more boring than discussin about "ideal anarchy utopias", even if you agree with the theme. -
So to put it simply… You honestly think that without laws there would be less crimes?
-
So to put it simply… You honestly think that without laws there would be less crimes?
"Less" is the key word. Yes, I think that MAYBE there is a chance. Not "not at all crimes", the animal inside us is unpredictable. BUT: As I said, this conversation is all about "utopian vibes". To reach in a situation like this, we must first find the roots of the problem, demolish them and build upon them the seeds of a new society, change major ways of communication and understanding, demolish some major taboos and how education is spread, and blah blah blah BLAH. And this is why I hate these discussions, because I'm not the one that can bestow those changes, and no one of those filthy "left wing" asses can, and I doubt that anyone will be able to do so while I'm alive.
As a young person, however, it is my duty to put such topics on table and juice them out till I understand that I'm unable to DO anything. such understandin leads to higher tries for better communication and search of knowledge.
At least for me.So, to answer your question, yes, I believe so, mostly because everyone in a society like that would be responsible enough to bestow "laws" (totally arbitrary use of the word, mind you) upon his own self, not the others. But, as I pointed out, thinking that crimes would be inevitable, even then, is lame, because our carnivorous side will forever be hungry.

**JudasChrist, don't be so naive.
:::Death is sometimes, although rarely, absolutely necessary. In this case, it should be dealt swift and painless as possible.**

@Octogon:
JudasChrist, don't be so naive.
Disagreeing is more than welcome, but I assure you, "naive" is one of the words that never applied to my personality.
I still can't understand what part of my post makes me "naive". Maybe you could as well post something in return, or, better, if you find that this would be off topic, PM me or go here: www.myspace.com/eliasracoon (same for everybody else)
You can as well call me "utopist" or "daydreamer", since I tend to escape reality often (which is bad and good), and it's fine, but "naive" hides a negative vibe that I can't accept, cause objectivelly, I've had experiences and encounters that made me reach my majority too early.I don't "defend" myself through the net anymore, so call this an exception. Just, like me or dislike me for somethin I am.

Aren't laws made to control and supress crime? I mean comeon. No matter how you rearrange the fact, laws are the things that keeps justice and peace to the world. Inhumane death sentences are made in order to arouse fear among criminals and rapists from doing their usual stuff.
I come from a very poor country where stealing and other forms of hineous crimes like child prostitution is arised due to the harsh system of the law. But then again I know that the law in our country is very twisted.
I mean have you ever heard of our president? She was caught cheating her way through the election by the "Hello Darcy Scandal"(changing the vote counts), and look what happens now? She's still the president. Good and going. And I really admire her in my own point of view (I think she sacrificed making a sin because she knew the elected to be president she cheated would lead the Philippines to the brink of destruction/who wouldn't when the enemy she cheated was a famous actor who was a college dropout).
My point is that if there's a law. It should be a good law, and the government shouldn't be corrupt like it is in our country. Then crimes wouldn't be happening.
I do agree with your fact about World Peace tho. World Peace could never be achieved. There's always this balance thingy happening.

whatever, I'm not interested in continuing this stuff anyway, even if this whole "I'll name call someone this or that without trying to support my thesis" strategy is famous only between the cyrcles of teens or assholes.

So really, somebody murders another human being, this is against the law. So, they then go to court, they try and convict the person and their sentence is death. The person is then murdered, is this not also a crime?
Just because somebody thinks that somebody else deserves to die, that makes it ok?
-

Then why is that countries which doesn't utilize death sentences has generally lower crime rates? Harder laws has never stopped rapists. A rapist doesn't think he will get caught while doing his "stuff".

Death Penalty Doesn't stop crimes period
crime is commited for one of 3 reasons
1. Financial
2. Emotional
3. Compulsion
if its 1 the people in question have it planned so throughly that they don't believe they will be caught so they aren't even thinking of that
if its 2 if your that mad or in love to kill someone than seeing people die on TV or in the news won't lessen the emotion during that moment
and
3 if its a compulsion then it can't be stopped because its a compulsion
really all you need to justify with yourself if the death penatly is correct is if you deem that it is morally right to take a human life.
