You already know Luffy is ahead of Bellamy.
Luffy is fresh off Crocodile at that point. His bounties higher. Zoro's bounty is higher, even Robin's.
Its waiting for a dam break.

This is nothing like Jimbei.

The only reason i knew luffy was stronger than bellamy is because i saw his superiority by refusing to fight. If bellamy was as strong as luffy then luffy would not have acted in that way because he would have been killed. Knowing he was superior he refused to fight him and his inferior new world crap

It makes sense because you wouldn't do that to someone who is stronger than you, even shanks did it to a nobody.
Now your right about it being an issue of princple but the fact that bellamy easily beat someone who was supposed to be strong(the 40 something bounty guy) is showing bellamy as quite a strong character. So luffy K.Os the guy in one hit, that's showing 1 of 2 possiblities.

Either bellamy is a total weakling (triple marine strength) or it's showing us that luffy is far superior

I imagine that Jinbei will have a former bounty of ~300 million - about the same as Luffy. And they will have one hell of a fight. While I know that not every Shichibukai will be an enemy (a theory of mine is Kuma joining the crew late in the story), Jinbei's connection to Arlong and all that history with the fishmen should be more than enough to set off conflict. Though watch Oda pull one over on us and Jinbei not even be at Fishman Island :P

Before I submit my opinion on Jimbei, I must ask: Did anyone but me find Arlong really, really weak? Let's start with his fighting style. Arlong used his teeth to bite Luffy with mostly, which showed me we was a terrible fighter. To bite someone, you have to lunge yourself at the person, leaving you completely open for attack. Even when he DID bite Luffy, it's not like it did much. Second, his nose, everyone talks about how he used his nose a lot in his fighting style so I must also ask, when did he do THIS? I remember him using his nose one time, and that was when Luffy broke it. Again, since you're leagues taller than your opponent, anything on your face is automatically useless, so why even bother using it? Next, him using his teeth on his hands, I found this to also be useless. What exactly did Arlong to with these that hurt Luffy all that much? Absolutely nothing, from what I saw. That also made Luffy using them seem all the more stupid. The only reason I see why Luffy didn't just beat him up was because he took the time to talk to Arlong about how you don't treat people like shit. Anyway, I just had to get that out into the open.

Now, onto Jimbei. Luffy KOing him on the spot is utterly ridiculous, despite them only talking about his power once (which again baffles me why people talk about how he's been "hyped up"). You must remember that he is a Shichibukai and therefor, very, very strong. This obviously won't be some kind of "Oh, hey Jimb- GOMU GOMU NO PISTOL! Yay, he's dead. Let's go get some jerkey" kind of thing, if they do indeed fight. Why would they even bring up a Shichibukai if he can't even take a single rubber punch? This isn't someone incredibly lame, like Bellamy, this is a merman WARLORD OF THE SEA.

As for his bounty, I'm guessing it froze at about 300million, just like Luffy's current one. Although, I don't have a problem if it was lower, it would just be interesting to see Luffy fight someone who was of equal interest to the World Government. This is, of course, if they even fight at all.

Closing thoughts, I hope Jimbei will be REALLY different. Like a huge, menacing merman in the shadows, just to start dancing around in a tutu and singing about sunshine and daisies.

I don´t even understand that somebody can have doubts in what Zephos is explaining here. If you look at it, Oda himself explained that this development of Luffy´s is the big thing here and he does that through Blackbeards words where he tells Nami that Luffy and Zoro won the fight and that if you aim for the top you have to fight fights that can´t be won by fists alone.

This gets only supported by Luffy remembering Shanks´ and Ace´s words on the matter of achieving a goal.

That's correct I have already agreed the fight was about morales but im stating what the fight actually showed, it showed luffy completely superior to bellamy. So people saying that fight wasn't showing strength are wrong because it did show strength, far more than bellamy would ever have

There´s a big difference between the terms "prove" and "show" here. The arc shows us a OHKO of Bellamy but it proves a totally different point which is in fact Luffy´s growth as a character.

There will be more to the story than just Luffy arriving on Mermen Island and beating the crap out of the local boss, just because he's a Schishbukaï or a member of a species with which they had trouble before. Because it would be the first time ever the Strawhats would pick up a fight for bad reasons.

I think Aka Inu will be next arc's major villain, but that's based on nothing concrete.

This is why theres such a big difference between luffy and zoro's bounty because it has to be the captain as got to be stronger than his crew also if jimbei is in Mermen Island which would be under water then luffy would be weaken so even if jimbei's bounty would be lower than luffys seen as their in water they would fight evenly or zoro and others would fight him instead so this is where the gap between bountys comes in if they defeat him then luffy is still stronger also has the higher bounty still plus you just can't have luffy fighting all the stronger enemys all the time and it would build his crews bounty to near Shichibukai level so they can fight black beards crew.

As you know my argument was that the fight whether intentional or not showed luffy far superior than bellamy. I never said that the fight wasn't showing him proving a point I knew that the moment i saw it.

I imagine that the shichibukai would only kill another if it benefited him. It depends on the various plots. That Croc for example, he stated that he's killed everyone who's pissed him off in his life.

I'm sure that under the right circumstances, a shichibukai would kill anyone they need to given the chance. They are pirates after all. Of course, it depends on their characters, and what they would really gain from killing that person.

Cause right now, one shichibukai killing the othe would just make them enemies of the World Government again.

I think Jinbei will actually help fight off another Shichibukai after meeting and getting to know Luffy and the mugiwaras…especially Nami....... it would be a different thing all together if Jinbei isn't as bad as everyone expected....just because of Arlong.......

I don't see where else Jinbei would fit other than Merman Island. I suppose you could have an arc of him pursuing the Strawhats after some incident that's left unresolved. I do hope they encounter Jinbei, because the last time they fought a Shichibukai he ended up being the greatest villain introduced (up to this point). IMO, we haven't had an arc villain as great as Crocodile, and I'm hoping that Jinbei will fill this void for the time being.

As for them becoming friends, it could happen. True, I wouldn't want Jinbei to be another Arlong so there needs to be some difference between them. I imagine Jinbei won't be as blatantly evil but like all major players in the One Piece world have some kind of unresolved dream that conflicts with the crew.

He could be off punishing Arlong for losing to a 'weakling', like Doflamingo would probably do.

Well the part i like about one piece is that they don't show person training. They usually tell you how the person got stronger in between the battle or after the battle is finished

CCC's right, the only villians that have actually taken down Luffy are Croc and Lucci. Though Arlong did in a cheap way, by throwing him in the water while his feet were trapped, but Croc actually beat the crud out of him, and so did Lucci.

Am I the only one who thinks Jimbei isn't a whale shark fishman? I know the name implies it, but I'm going with the theory that Oda is just using that to trick us and Jimbei is really like the weakest fishman type ever. The minnow fishman who owns you. That makes me laugh.

But honestly Jimbei won't be One Hit KO'd. It would be so unnecessary. What does Luffy have to prove to himself, the readers, or the OP world that requires him to knock out a potential main villain like that?

It was Kuma you are refering to. And that quote you´re talking about is one of the worst mistranslations that ever appeared in One Piece so far. Kuma didn´t say "but now we have a target" originally but "However, he´s correct" which was a reference to Sengoku´s "Refuse of the Seas" statement towards Doflamingo.

Because Arlong was his subordinate? And if not for his sitting around on his ass for years and if he actually practiced combat, then Luffy would have been completely and utterly owned.

See, people misunderstand. Arlong is not a fighter. It's strange for a pirate, but it's true. Arlong was not a fighter. He was more akin to a mob boss if anything. He was strong as hell, and could take punches with the best of them. But he couldn't fight worth a damn, and that led to his downfall. I mean, look at the fight. He repeats Shark on Darts five times and used the teeth attack about four… his lack of moves is what screwed him over. Luffy is a combat genius, and it caused him to easily win the Arlong Park fight.

Out of all the Arlong Park people, only Hachi and Arlong were strong. And before you say Hachi was weak sauce, he wasn't a fighter either. And remember, each of his swords weighed 650+ pounds. Multiply that by 8 and you've got 7800 pounds... that's almost 4 tons, the same weight that Mr. 4 could lift. Both of them did it effortlessly.

So…. why.... would you... compare..... arlong to jinbei now. I dont think jinbei sat on his butt all them years. and at the same time he is indeed a Hollywood pirate aka schicibukai so he heck of strong.

It a little much to assume that Along just "sat on his ass" at Arlong Park. Jimbei could be doing the same thing, the difference is that he's sitting on a throne of power.

Jimbei will most likely be stronger then Arlong, but the fact that Yosaku said that Arlong was "nearly as strong" suggests a level of weakness now that Arlong is beaten. The possibility that Jimbei isn't much stronger then Arlong is open until we get an awesome display of power from this fishman.

After all, it's still possible that, maybe, Jimbei won't be an arc boss, and maybe one of the other shichibukai take his place. From there, Sanji or something could fight him. It depends heavily on how his arc pans out. Hell, he could be dead by the time they reach meman island–what kind of twist would that be?

Well, of course he isn't. I still say Yosaku was talking in terms of physical strength, NOT overall fighting ability. He probably heard of a lot of strength feats. And like someone said, Arlong was quite the beast himself, but his actual combat skills sucked ass. Imagine if he could use Kiribachi with some acutal skill (he seemed to be slightly better than Luffy with swords :p). Jimbei might turn out to be Arlong with kickass fighting ability. Although, considering we just got over an arc involving physical fighters, I'm hoping Jimbei is more than just a brawler…if he actually fights, of course.
