Great series, but I wonder if it could be made today tbh.
This scene way way too ahead of it's time. Honestly, though I do wonder how this would be viewed if it came out in this climate. I mean Prez's case of blinding that kid was textbook police brutality only to be followed up by Daniels covering for him. Hell I even see people that claim this show is copaganda among the ACAB crowd.
Even if it's supposed to be that, it's too honest to actually be that. If Good poh-lice can exist, they probably look something like Lester Freamon and the rest either end up drunken addicts like McNulty, or literal sociopaths like a lot of the narcos in seasons 3 and 4. The rest are either beaurocrats who don't give a fuck about their communities, incompetents who have no business with such responsibility (Herc and to an extent Prezbo), or they get tossed out for gaining something like a conscience. (Daniels, Colvin) Like, if it's legitimately copaganda, it does an amazing job at showing why the relationship with police in black neighborhoods is so shit. I will say though, it makes one wonder what a city like Baltimore would be left with without them.
