Wow. ITs about time, though I'd rather hoped for him to be tortured first.
Saddam sentenced to death

Are we seriously going to hang him? Or is the word hang a general term for the death sentence.
-
This post is deleted!
-
Boy, didn't see this one coming.
-
I'd heard somewhere that his sentence was to be death by firing squad. Must've been a rumor. Anyway, I wonder how this is going to affect Iraq? The Shi'ite groups are sure to be happy, but the Suuni…
-
Nice to know there's people here who delight in watching someone else be killed.

ditto
lock him up forever is all he'd need
-
Yeah, even if it's someone who's done as many horrible things as he has; I don't think I could watch him get killed. We'll televise it I'm sure, as disgusting as that is. I agree with Taleran, as I abhor the death penalty; a life sentence should be sufficient punishment.
-
To clarify: I wasn't saying that he doesn't deserve it, but I was responding to some posters who were saying "is it going to be recorded? This will be awesome!" or something or the sort (but it looks like their posts have been deleted).
-
I'm with Carter. While it's good that justice is being served, a part of me says it's kinda wrong to be happy about a man's immenent death IMO, not that I'm making judgements of others. So I'm just gonna say, I'm glad Saddam can't harm other people anymore.

Uh, no, he's being tried in Iraq by Iraqis. :p
That said, well, who didn't see it coming ? @_@

If Saddam is being hanged, then allow me to ask, why isn't the leader of an African country (I forget its name) being hanged as well? If he can get away with crimes against humanity, why isn't the U.S paying attention to them instead of a Middle Eastern country? It doesn't make a fucking word of sense.
-
Yeah, I've always wondered why we do very little about several situations in Africa, while we put our full attention onto one in the Middle East.
-
Well, just one less person in the world population.
-
While I think he deserves to pay for what he's done to people, I don't believe that death is the answer. A much better punishment is to make him live his life in a shit hole prison with no luxuries at all, make him live with what he did, let it eat him inside while he lives a lonely life.
Whoever asked is it going to be recorded… I feel sorry for you.
-
Sadam did a lot of bad things, but I am uncomfy with killing him. Especially by hanging. I guess it is not my choice though, and I did not have to put up with all the stuff the iraqies did.
and the US focuses on the middle east, because it has personal intrest in it. The US could care less about africa. Kind of stupid though, don't you think.

First the underwear shot, now death.
Though I admit I'm glad to see him get punishment, I'd prefer a live sentence. I want him to rot away. But I knew from the get-go the death sentance was his fate.
Intersting how out of the many things he's done in recent years, it's a crime he did 26 years ago that gets him the sentence.
-
actually, I was gonna menchion; I believe in justice, but I think the whole trial was kind of silly. We don't need to prove he was bad. There is no dout. We needed a damn good reason to start the war anyways, so there better be proof that he is bad. It was really a no brainer how the trial was gonna turn out. It was more of a 3 ring circus. or a waste of money…
-
I saw this on the news this morning.
I didn't know that they were able to sentence them to death where they hang them. :S
-
Hanging, huh? So we still live in the Middle Ages…
-
as long as he weighs enough I see nothing wrong with hanging its acually quite a quick death
-
Does anyone know WHEN this is gonna happen?
-
Hanging, huh? So we still live in the Middle Ages…
Don't forget that public hangings took place even up until the early 1900s, and if you count non-legal hangings, even more recent. The Middle Ages is known more for decapitations than hangings.
-
Didn't we hang "witches"
-
Does anyone know WHEN this is gonna happen?
I think it said that it has to happen in less than 30 days from when it was written.
I'm against killing and all and I think it would be so much better to just put him in jail for his life.
-
I probably wasn't clear with what I meant: as long as we have any sort of death penalty around, we are living in the moral mindset of Middle Ages. I have these silly ideologies in my head… like not killing another person for revenge, as that's what death penalty is about. Don't worry, once I grew enough old and bitter I will ditch such naive ideas.
Didn't we hang "witches"
At least we liked to burn them into ashes. Burning by a stake was a common punishment for heretics.
-

It can be quick if it's done right, but there's always room for something to go wrong. Hanging is a comparitively long process if the neck isn't broken by the drop, and even then a broken neck isn't a guarantee of instant death either. It can take up to 15 minutes (or longer) for cardiac arrest, according to Wikipedia, which seems like a hell of a long time to me. So if they do it right, theoretically it should be painless and quick, but if something goes wrong, it's a slow, horrible way to die.
-
yep and all the really light guys that got it when it was popular went for 2 days hanging there
-
I think that other punishment would fit better for him instead death penalty, which is just pointless.
-
Death by hanging? That is something Hitler or Stalin deserved, but Saddam… ?
-
Just shoot him in the head and masturbate on his corpse
-

I'd be all for the former.. But….

Yeah, I believe it did say that it has to happen within 30 days of sentencing. I am also against the death penalty, if you look at it, if things were an eye for an eye, the whole world would go blind.
And quite a few posts in this thread have reminded me of Death Note, this one especially, 40 seconds converted into 30 days? Eh, maybe I'm just being stupid.
-
@Cap'n:

….
Let's hang him.
-
Why not let the citizens decide his fate? If they really are hungering for democracy, vote on his torture method.
-
By executing Saddam, it wipes out any doubt in the citizens mind that he would EVER return to power. Also by hanging, it also shows that he no longer had power even in choosing the method of his own execution.
-
People are getting too soft. He deserves to die for all the crap he did. Why waste all that money on him to sit in jail? Kill him and let most of the Iraqi people rejoice, like they did earlier today when they heard of his future fate.
Crimes against humanity is international law. Strong punishments are meant to deter other people from doing it. Death setence in America, is only in a few states and most of the time they rarely ever occur. And when they do, they usually sit in jail for 20 years and get executed than if they havent changed much. Even tho, there are some exceptions.
I am not a firm believer of the death penalty in criminal cases because there are sometimes people being found guilty that are innocent. And in the past, many whites were quick to put the death penalty on black people without any evidence.
Crimes against humanity, is a totally different thing. Hitler deserved to die. Saddam deserves to die. Khalil AL Min deserved to die. Bin Laden will die.
-
@Masta:

America has learned that Iraq's 'democracy' is not what we want. When we allowed them to choose their leader, they chose a leader that American did not want, so we tried to 'persuade' them to choose otherwise.
If Iraq's citizens was allowed to vote on Suddam's death, then there's a chance that poor little America would be dissatisfied with what they choose.
-

Because death is sometimes just the easy answer.
-
If Iraq voted on Saddam's fate, He would of been dead 2 years ago.
-
And your point is?
-
That was in response to what Cyringohn said. I guess I should have quoted him.
-
And your point is?
I guess his point would be any way you look at it his crazy ass is grass.
And hanging too! Ouch!
-
Well then I guess I should say that it wouldn't be as one sided as people think. In fact, I think it would send the country into further dispair had they been allowed to vote. Why do you think there is an insurgence within Iraq for the past 3 years?
If the whole of Iraq was against Saddam then when Coalition forces took him in that would have been that and the country would have moved into a brighter future but, this hasn't happened has it?Saddam was an evil man but he had many followers.
-
Well, I didn't expect death, but I'm glad he's getting punished.
For some reason, I was afraid that the system would fail, and Saddam would get anyway with something light.
-
Most of the insurgents dont even care about Saddam or some groups even hate him. A couple of groups are for Saddam but most just want the American people out and they want they own politcal or religious group running the country. There are insurgents of Sunni and Shiites. They all have they own agenda.
