With the revelation of Dr. Begabank, I was thinking that maybe One Piece could fit in a story arc focused on science. Skypiea, more or less, was based around religion. Anyhow, I was thinking that it would be awesome if somehow Dr. Begabank found out about Chopper and persuaded, rather than captured, him to work along with. Whether Begabank would be a villain per se or not can be up for debate, but this "Begabank Arc" could involve Chopper, reference the Enies Lobby Incident, and maybe even re-introduce Wapol. Why him? It would be neat if Wapol had a government contract with Dr. Begabank because of his Wapometal!
I must emphasize that Dr. Begabank could somehow talk Chopper into working with him by offering a recipe, so to speak, for that panacea he's been looking for. A Begabank/Chopper interaction would be diplomatic so as to not be entirely like the CP9 Saga. Begabank could also play on Chopper's bitterness and naivete.
What do you guys think?
Cool Idea for a Science-Themed Arc!(Maybe Spoilers)

Well, considering how much they thought about my Gears idea, most won't like this either.
Besides, Begabank is Nami's stchick, it looks like.
Just because a person is a doctor doesn't mean he's one of medicine. My principal in high school was a Doctor of English.

I like your Gears idea! It would be perfect for this type of story arc! As for Nami, she doesn't seem to be much of a science type. Who knows? Could you perhaps elaborate on that? :) If it involves her interest in technology, which she does have, then that makes sense! She did show a lot of interest in Dr. Begabank and his research, or else she wouldn't have eavesdropped! She could then very well be a factor in that arc too.
BTW, I'm very aware that being a Doctor doesn't automatically make you a scientist. Medicine, however, does involve a lot of science. So it's not that I'm saying Chopper is a scientist, but that his unique physiology, his Rumble Balls, and his "Monster" form on Enies Lobby could perhaps provoke the interest of a guy like Dr. Begabank. He does study Devil Fruits and Seastone, and Chopper is indeed an anomaly! Dr. Begabank is obviously a scientist, and Chopper would be a wonderful test subject for him.

Chopper is unique in only that he's an animal that ate the Hito Hito no Mi. There's a lot of different Zoans, but there can only be one Human Human fruit.
Nami is everything Science. Whatchu talking 'bout? Weather forecasting IS a science. Nami is one of the smartest men on the Grand Line. The smartest man is Ben Beckman, as stated by Oda. Meterology is very much a Science. So is Cartography, for that matter.
Chopper is a Biologist and a Doctor. Most doctors were Biologists, except in Modern times. That's because medicine is all artificial these days. Manufactured by robots in factories.
Well, One Piece doesn't have that. Like our ancestors, they use natural ingredients to make things, including rumble balls. That means herbs, minerals, roots, etc. You have to know how to mix these properly in order to make the medicine.
The doctor's interest in the rumble balls would be more accurate. But medicine doesn't seem to be his area of expertise, nor biology, for that matter. Devil Fruits apparently don't grow, otherwise we would've seen a tree somewhere. As far as we know, they're just found lying around.
Hopefully we'll know where the hell they come from soon.

I'm sick of science-themed arcs, actually. The show take's place near 1522; having a phone is already to far-fetched. Since the show is fiction, I can let the whole "Despite the only material being metal, a staff can hold countless objects and also has the power to control the weather somehow" thing go. Sky Island (Which I am currently watching… Read Sig) is almost all the technology I can assume could possibly be available in the 1500's.
I for one, think we should go back to somewhat primitive settings, such as the Arabasta Arc, where was much more believable, and it showed with 1000's of fans, including me. When someone thinks of something so ingenious with such limited surroundings, that makes the object so much more incredibly inventive (Such as the Clima Tact in Arabasta), but Dials were not so inventive. Even though they were thought out and cleverly planned just as well if not better than the Clima Tact, I barely cared since it was such a commen tool.
So, if I saw a Science-Themed Arc, it had to differ from previous arcs, so it doesn't bore me to tears.

To "Fire Fist" Ace: I stand corrected about Nami. I see your point. :) And here's my point about Begabank being potentially interested in Chopper: like you said, he's an animal that ate the Hito Hito no Mi. But what really makes him stand out is his use of Rumble Balls and how they affect his Devil Fruit. Hence Dr. Begabank would take note of that. I know that Dr. Begabank isn't a biologist or a physician. I'm saying that he could attempt to study Chopper(in regards to his unique Devil Fruit power) and his Rumble Balls by luring him with promises of medical technology. :) Or maybe interest him in being a research partner, but he'll of course have ulterior motives against Chopper.
Anyhow, a "Begabank Arc" would be a nice Chopper/Nami story IMHO.To Private Zulan: what other science-themed arcs are there? For the most part, One Piece has been consistently "primitive" with weird technology like Dials and Den Den Mushi's showing up here and there. But there really hasn't been a science story arc. Most of the story arcs have a political theme, and Skypiea was quasi-religious yet still political. Overall One Piece is very much all around steam punk oriented without much emphasis on science per se. The introduction of Dr. Begabank could potentially change that.
-
Yeah, a science themed arc can be fun. Imagine how much fun the SHs can have in a world of techinology!
Also, I think that Begabank will most likely be related to Franky. He was abandoned by his dad to right? Except in his case, he may know was his father looks like, and can recognize him if they meet. Nami wouldn't know what her parents look like, and how long would it take even his father to recognize Nami now? She barely had any hair back then, and no where near that many curves.
Plus, Franky invents weapons and technology for ship building. I think that's closing then predicting the weather. Franky's smart in the field of techniolgy moreso then Nami. After all, if Franky instead of Nami was eavesdropping, he may have recognized the name.
-
To onemoment: nice insight about Franky! So it would awesome then if a "Begabank Arc" had a Franky/Chopper/Nami focus. It would be neat if there was a familial link between Franky and Begabank. It's possible! It would also be cool if Robin and Usopp had chances to fight again.
-
I get the feeling if Begabank is Franky's dad, Begabank is gonna die. Because when Franky gets pissed, faces break. Look at Spandam, Nero, Usopp, and Fukuro.

Well, they all lived. Plus, we don't know what Begabank is like.
He may not have a normal body, mind, or…personality. They could have a realationship like Ichigo from Bleach and his dad (just started watching this anime though, but you get what I mean. Dysfunctional.). Begaban k could fight back and maybe even own Franky with science.
Or, get bashed like Spandam. Who knows.
-
Well, you're right on that.
Nero's dead until Oda says otherwise. At least to me. Spandam I hope that Robin killed him. Please let someone be confirmed dead, for the love of god. If anyone deserved to die in One Piece, he did. Fukuro is probably still alive but I wouldn't hold my breath. I mean, all of Enel's priests died with the exception of Gedatsu. None of them confirmed, but they haven't been seen since, one had his spine broken and was thrown off a cliff, one was hit in the chest with a reject dial, and one took a full force kick to the forehead. Ohm is probably still alive, but I seriously doubt Satori, Shura, or Yama is.

Shame that using proper grammar and accurate spelling won't reveal the inner workings of a Devil Fruit.

You don't know that! Akuma no Mi can talk!

I was also thinking that since Begabank is a "Devil Fruit engineer", he could make robots as well as weapons fused with Devil Fruits. Wouldn't it be weird if the next major battles the Straw Hats had was against Devil Fruit robots and mutants? And if Begabank learned the secret of Chopper's Rumble Balls, he could really create some wild monstrosities! Likewise, Franky and Nami can get their grubby little paws on any cool stuff that Begabank and company have with them.
-
What about Usopp? I think he'd benefit from the Government's gadgets than Nami would, she'd benefit from the information. I think that, if done properly, a sciencey arc would be great. I think the robot devil fruit mutant things are a little over the top though.
-
Yes everyone! It seems like this Begabanks guy could potentially be the source for the entire crews next group of upgrades!
That's if they can get him on their side though.
-
Begabanks would kinda make Ussop look irrelevant, wont he? People are talking about him making new upgrades and the like when that's supposed to be Ussop's department.
Franky seems to be already taking his shipwright position, Begabanks would take the weapons department and make Ussop obselete. I don't know if it's a good idea.

Well, like carpentry, Usopp isn't a professional inventor or scientist. He just makes weapons for himself and Nami every now and then. What's so bad about Begabanks showing them some cool technolgy? It's not like he's joining the crew, and he may just end up showing Usopp new technolgy, like dials, which Usopp could tinker with all the same.
Besides, Usopp's the sniper, and hopefully he'll have shown up that be then,
-
I kinda think that Begabank is related to either Nami or Franky. Nami Begabank lol as weird as it sounds, fits her perfectly. Maybe this guy is obsessed with money too? Nami doesn't know her parents and such so this could be real interesting if it does happen. This dude could seriously give Franky and Usopp ideas for inventions and such so what the hell? Nami Begabank! I can't stop saying that! It has that Megaman vibe to it.
