He was originally pissed off at her because he thought that she killed Igaram. Once it tuned out that Igaram was alive and that Robin actually had not killed him, Luffy's view of Robin changed. Not to mention the fact that Robin saved Luffy's life in the first battle with Croc.
He never vowed to beat her up either. He just said that he hated her because she killed Igaram.

I hate Franky. Alot. What will happen to the Franky family if Franky leaves? I think he will build the ship, and end up working with Iceburg in Water 7 instead of being the shadow criminal person in Water 7. Just cause he builds the ship doesn't mean he'll join them. I mean, Merry didn't join them because the ship was his design. XD (i think that would have been cool, though, now that I think about it. The goat-man! Also, Oda seems to like goats and rams)

If anyone were to join from W7, I think they would have to be someone…less loud, but still cool. Someone we wouldn't expect. With weird personality traits and strange vices.

Let's see, Iceburg can't, he doesn't fit the description. Lulu and B...b....whatever his name is (the big, loud guy) are too minor. The giants already have plans. Franky is...he's too loud and too much. He'd detract from the crew, really. Paulie....Paulie....well, he did have that moment with Luffy when they were both trapped. Maybe Iceburg will set him loose. Paulie does have a strange trait, partially opposite of Sanji (HOW SHAMELESS!!), which could lead to some humourous exchanges. He also has a gambling vice, as was revealed when we first met him (trying to steal the money, ha ha). He is battle ready. Maybe not the strongest, but whatever. I don't know if he'd join though. However, of all the W7 characters, he seems more likely than the rest. (I'm just trying to convince myself that Franky WILL NOT join, because I dislike him so much).

You are all saying a scientist should join. What type of science? I mean, a lot of the crew members have some kind of technical knowledge.

Nami understands meteorology, oceanography, geography, and navigation. This is very useful. She knows the weather, and how to use it to their advantage. She knows the ocean, and how to navigate it. Not only that, but she also knows geography, and how to read, and make maps. With this, she probably knows alot about climates, and what to find in certain climates.

Usopp seems to be good with chemicals, and is a quick thinker. He can build new things, invent things, and renovate and enchance existing things. So, he seems to have some physics abilities too.

Sanji is a nutritionist and knows a great deal about what is good for the body, and how to keep everyone healthy. People sometimes over look the usefulness of a nutritionist. He knows alot about vitamins and minerals, though not as much as a doctor, just what a chef should know.

Chopper has extensive knowledge on medicine, and such. He is knowlegeable on botanicals, medicines, minerals, and other such things. Besides regular medicines, he can create medicines to increase a persons ability. He made the Rumble Ball (partly by accident, if you believe everything you see in the anime) which changes the wavelength of the Devils Fruit and enables the user to do more than they could before. Perhaps he could study more into the DF and increase the powers of those in the crew....

Robin is an archeologist, historian, and an overall knowledgeable woman. With her kind of knowlege, she probably understands people very well. After studying people of the past, she probably understands people of the present very well. She has some skills similar to Nami's with mapping, however, probably not to the same extent of Nami's.

Imagine if they all got together and brain stormed. If Nami thinks of something that could help them sail easier, tells Ussop, and Usopp builds it, that could work. If Sanji and Chopper got together and put their knowledge to work, they could create tasty snacks that can increase stamina, and maybe even give them a boost! Imagine the possibilities! Combining their skills is more than enough to cover a scientists job.

And yes, Luffy needs a musician. Conis plays harp. She should have joined them. A Sky-Islander joining them would have been cool.

And yes, they need another female in the crew. They have 2 intelligent, and manipulative women. I think they need a woman on the ship that is more sweet and nice. One who seems to go out of their way to be almost too nice.....XD Gentle, too!

Female musician....kind, average intelligence, goofy.... A strange trait....what should it be....dreamy? Hm. Air-head? Hm. I dunno. She should be physically strong as well. Like, no DF powers, just tough. Hm. Maybe a whip....Hee hee. XD Super kind girl! She is too kind! She apologizes in battle! XD And she uses a whip! Oh, this is entertaining. Ok.

i remember in the beginning of the anime, luffy said he'll have about 10 people in his crew or something. but i think ANN interviewed him and they asked about luffy getting those ten people, saying "will luffy keep going till he has 10 people?" and oda-samas answer was"who knows how many people luffy will recruit?"

My response was due to the lack of a more girly type of girl in the Strawhat Crew. I mean, Nami is girly, but not in a good way. She's rough, skanky, and mean (it's why we love her!). It's fine for her character. Robin is more demure, but she's too quiet, and too…well...she has a masculine presence.

I think they need another female who is gentler, kinder, and all that jazz.
But, I listed a bunch of weird traits too. Despite that kindness, her pessimism and apologetic nature would add for more humor.

I think that's just because he was annoyed that she wanted to throw her life away rather than find a reason to live and a dream to follow. It's pretty much the opposite of him.

Yeah, before Robin joined, Luffy was fairly apathetic towards her (until she touched his hat, but it was straight back to apathy right after).

After reading through the Water 7 arc again, I am now fairly convinced that Franky will join. He has his own sad backstory where someone dies (a must for a Straw Hat – except Luffy), a really strange but detailed character design, a unique fighting style, a profession, and a vice (Spending money).

I don't think the "Arrogant, Cocky, Rival, Jerk guy" would work here because that's already covered between Zoro and Sanji in an amusing way (we know deep down they care a lot about each other ). I don't think anybody should act cocky and treats Luffy as a rival because he is the captain afterall and is suppose to kick the most butt. And it would detract from the family theme the strawhat has.

But the soft more feminine girl joining would be interesting, although one might ask why somebody gentle and nice would join a rowdy bunch of pirates …

age: pre-teen (maybe a bit older than chopper) or someone that is between Robin and Franky (didn't Kokoro mention that webbed fins change to feet at age 30? seems strange for that piece of info to be thrown in randomly)
other: would be neat to have someone who can swim underwater and can navigate in the sea really well for the strawhats. With the super-swimming of Franky, they would make a good 1-2 punch in fighting and other water related things in the storyline

Very nice… she could be young as a preteen with her fins separated into feet, because of her half-breed body... as mother as human and father as merman it could make the baby born with feet with fins or her fin could separate at a young age... this would make her a out-cast in the society really fast.

Just had another thought to add on to my guess:
What if the Mer-woman, Woman-Mer half-breed is Tom and Kokoro's off-spring? Tom was a Man-Mer and Kokoro is a Mer-maid (woman), so if they had a child, it would be a hybrid. Chimney always refers to Kokoro as Grandma, so if they are in fact biologically related, then Chimney's mom should be somewhere (doesn't explain why Chimney looks similar to Kokoro though, with no traces of Tom's puffer fish genes…).

Also, Chimney looks pretty much like a normal human (and has legs at a young age), so maybe her mom was the mentioned Mer-woman, Woman-Mer half-breed and her dad was human, which would mean the mom would be even more of an outcast.

Some thoughts:

if Kokoro and Tom did have a child, they probably would be about the same age as Franky/Iceburg (~30's)
if the child was under 30 and didn't form legs yet, they would probably need to stay in Wonderland
if the Mer-woman, Woman-Mer half-breed had a human husband, then I'm guessing the husband was killed by others in her race (tragic). Also, since she has Kokoro/Chimney, this means she would have people supporting her that she has to leave behind before joining (another recurring theme inorder to become a Strawhat). Not sure what her dream would be though...
the fact that she would have Mer-man blood means she would have super-human strength. If she turns out to be the helms-woman, then this is needed (currently, Chopper usually works the helm since he's the only one that can move it at times)
timeline:

29years ago - Tom+Kokoro have child in Wonderland
~26? to ~22? years ago - Tom+Kokoro leave Wonderland (and their child since she only has fins still) for W7. Meet and basically adopt Iceburg / Franky
8years ago - Tom+Kokoro's offspring (who is 21 now) has a child with human (Chimney?); this is the year Tom dies and Franky gets run over
7years ago - Kokoro goes back to Wonderland, meets with daughter and takes Chimney (1 years old) back to W7
Present - Chimney is 8years old and with Kokoro in W7. Tom+Kokoro's offspring is 29, and just about to have fins turn to legs...

Anyways, most likely it's just a wild/incorrect guess, but thought I'd share!

i love how everyone is saying it would be a mermaid. I wrote someting about that a while back and if i was good at posting links on a forum i would. At least everyone is thinking logically. We are due in for another female and a meramid who can sing would be cool. By the way they gonna get the 10th real soon cuz they going to the triangle place where a lot of ships sink. You know, two people in a row joining does feel a little too soon.

Here's an idea–everyone's been talking about the "new Robin" right? (in Franky debates). Well, what if the fish man member doesn't joining in the merman island arc, but rather following them, i.e. swim behind their boat, to the next island for awhile? He could play the angle of an outsider to the crew who just happens to fight on their side for awhile.

Something like that.

well my theory will probably not become true, and I believe Oda can do a much greater job but still I just want to get it out…

Since this may be the last arc before the new world, and luffy wanted 10 crewmembers, so if you count Franky and the new boat theres 2 more left, so I think we will get both in one arc, one being a human man fightning with either some new cool original devil fruit or some kind of chain weapon maybe a Kurasigama or both, he should be in the midd twenties or early twenties, it would also be intresting if he was a ex-marine or WG officer so he could provide the strawhatts with information.

The second one being a female flying fish gyojin that will take the job musican and diver, and since she's a flying fish she will also have the ability to glide fly or maybe fly just like a bird, dunno, real flying fish can only glide trough the air but since this is one piece...
She could fight with her instrument (made of coral) and sound waves maybe, and since she can fly it would be cool if she could face a bird zoan enemy
As for the looks, if you don't already know some flying fishes has some really cool colors on their scales and fins, and this character could have that too, so when she flies she almost lookd like a butterfly. xD

First question: Where did Oda mention that an Arabasta person would join?

For the record, my feelings on the Arabasta person is Vivi. Technically she IS part of the crew, and if you want to get really technical Robin is 8 and Franky is 9 - the whole X-mark scene? The SHs still consider her to be one of them and she has had a few cover appearances. As for her reason for returning, it wouldn't have to be affiliation with the Straw Hats - affiliation with Baroque Works, no matter the reason, would be enough. Didn't the Miss Goldenweek arc feature the Mr. 13 pair giving the Marines sketches of the remaining BW members? They could've blown the whistle on Vivi, and Igaram would have been spared because the Mr. 13 pair probably thinks he's dead considering Ms. All-Sunday "blew him up". The dream part I haven't figured out the kinks to, but I'm sure Oda has something in mind.

That leaves the rest of the unnamed crewmembers, and it now looks like Oda isn't letting us know a final number anymore. The ten back in the first volume could have been a red herring. Luffy could very easily change his mind about something like how many nakama he wants (and I'm using the term "nakama" deliberately to reflect his relationship with the other SHs, not their jobs on the crew). True, there are other things he'll put his foot down on, but he seems really flexible about who joins his crew. Look at Robin - despite protest from everyone but Sanji, Luffy was all "yeah, you can join". I'm not totally convinced he would not invite/let someone else join just because he's met his crewmate quota.

I think it's because of the way that the story has developed that the Straw Hats consider their ship to be another crewmember, but probably wouldn't count towards Luffy's quota.

As a writer who's seen characters take on lives of their own, I'll say that, from experience, you don't always know how your characters will react to a situation until you do it. We're all pretty sure that Oda knows exactly where this manga is going, but the trip there might not go exactly as planned. Think about any kind of road trip you've gone on - you might run out of gas, stop at a restaurant you've never heard of before for lunch, ect. Writing can go just the same way.

BTW, the "official" recruitment order from what I've deduced is ether:

Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, Vivi (temporary?), Chopper, Robin, Franky.

-OR-

Luffy, Zoro, Usopp, Sanji, Nami, Chopper, Robin, Franky, (Vivi?).

The first order is based on order of appearance as an ally (otherwise Robin and Chopper would have to switch places). The second is based on permanent recruitment (though Usopp left, he wasn't a temporary Straw Hat).

Vivi has a question mark in both instances because I consider her to be up in the air. On the one hand we haven't seen her in the main storyline since the very end of Arabasta, which means she's been a non player for a very, very long time. On the other hand, that x mark scene is fairly symbolic and leaves thing open ended enough that the Straw Hats would welcome her back with open arms (though Franky might be a little "who's she?" and Vivi might be a little bit hostile with Robin).

As far as other Arabasta recruits go, I have a theory against Bon Kurei joining as a permanent member and it's based on an SBS question Oda answered in regards to the anime (or an interview - I don't recall). The gist of what Oda said was that for fillers, Toei has to run things such as new Devil Fruits by Oda before they can add them to the storyline. For example, if Toei wanted to give Jonathan from the G8 arc the Giraffe Giraffe fruit, Oda would have said no because he probably knew by that point he'd be using that fruit for Kaku. Hence, Toei would go "ah, so there's going to be a DF with that fruit later in the story line - gotcha". This means that Oda has some say in what goes on in the anime, at least as far as filler, special, and movie materal goes (because the movies {ignoring movie 8 from what we can tell} are basically giant filler episodes, as are the TV specials). I don't know how much approval he has, but if he planned on Bon Kurei rejoining, he might mildly suggest to Toei that they may want a different voice for Franky because that VA would be needed for a bigger part a little later. I know this theory is based on an SBS question that is only semi-related, but somehow doing two lead voices in an anime as long as One Piece seems like it would be an awful lot of work. Luffy will definately asked a musician to join the minute he meets one that he likes….... that's for sure......
I would bet with a Devil Fruit that is related to music..... this new crew could possibly the strongest mugiwara if she joins (I put she, because it high time for another female crew member)....

Well franky is a musician too so now his "ideal" crew is ready. But he need more teammates before he enter the new world id like to see a mermaid in the crew (for Sanji :p).
