What exactly is going to happen? Is it just the name changing?

hmmm. intriguing
Gotta love the pathetic Nintendo fanboys saying Sony is shit and a copier… over a patent made BEFORE the Wii-U. #morons
-
Even if Nintendo had the idea for that type of controller before Sony's patent, how the hell is Sony supposed to know about it?

People leaking information?
-
What I mean is, just because Sony came up with a similar idea as Nintendo, there's really no reason to think they copied them as Nintendo's design was pretty secret.

Gamer's have been complaining gaming companies
usingstealing ideas from other companies for awhile and for some reason they still keep doing it. -

Is the Vita Backwards compatible? or do i have to keep my PSP 3K Core to play PSP games?

Is the Vita Backwards compatible? or do i have to keep my PSP 3K Core to play PSP games?
For digital purchases, yes. But the Vita doesn't have a UMD drive, so you can't play physical games.

Made before the wii u was SHOWN. Obviously Nintendo had that thing patented before it showed it off at e3. you don't magically have a device demo ready without having a patent been put in place for months or years. So I'm sure if you go an look at nintendo's patent for the wii u controller it dates earlier than the sony patent. If i recall corectly there was a lot of rumor talk when gamecube was not yet announced how it was going ot have a touch screen controller, or maybe it was the wii. either way that is either back in early 2000 or 2006, which is a lot sooner than this. So good chances there was a patent along these lines done back then. thats where most rumors come from. Someone looking at patents nintendo/sony put in and saying this is what htey are doing next. When in actuallity they may never come to see light of day or take 10 years before they do.
BUT
This isn't about who patented something first, or thought it up first. All it comes down to is Nintendo is coming out with a system that they showed off already last e3. If sony, microsoft or joe blow down the street releases a console now with the same type of controller, it looks like follow the leader. patents, who gives a shit about patents. Its all about appearances.
-
Hey guys~ Remember that service that was going to allow you to get a discount off digital games if you owned the UMD? Well if you're not Japanese then FUCK YOU.
http://i.joystiq.com/2012/02/07/vita-umd-passport-wont-be-offered-in-us/
Also Sony seems to be folding Modnation Racers into LittleBIGPlanet. Smart, if you ask me.

-
Well that sucks.
Ah well, maybe they won't be total dingbats and decide to bring the program back sometime down the line, I know I'm not getting a Vita IMMEDIATELY so there's still time…
-
Was sat there thinking how it would be nice if Sony allowed you to redeem the games you've already purchased on the PSP using the barcode on your game or something. I woulda considered buying a Vita for that. Oh well. Back to largely ignoring the system again.
-
So the main selling point of the vita was playing psp games?
-
They're doing this again?

No UMD passport program for North America…..

A-are you KIDDING me?! My desire to buy a Vita dropping…dropping...gone.

Same here.. now for me the only thing good about it is the Cross Play Mode.. and thats it.

Good thing I didn't give a damn about it in the first place . So is this thing a totally download system?
-
Good thing I didn't give a damn about it in the first place . So is this thing a totally download system?
not really. You can go out and buy Uncharted or Katamari or some of the other games they're releasing (can't remember what they are tho.) I think they're same price as 3DS games
-
Yes, and no. Third-party titles like Katamari will be $39.99, but first-party Sony titles will be $49.99. However if you buy first-party Sony titles digitally through PSN they too will be $39.99, they say they're doing this cause packaging, shipping and the card it comes on adds another $10 to the physical games price. Which is bullshit. Yes those things cost money but the real reason is by buying it off PSN Sony gets that full $40, no retailer percentage required, which charging an extra $10 at said retailers help them recoup that.
It's marketing genius. By buying digitally you save $10, but ultimately it pushes you ever closer to buying one of their expensive as hell memory cards for extra space to download and install said games to with the Vita itself only coming with 4GB out of the box.
Course certain retailers like Amazon are selling physical Sony Vita titles for $40 despite the Sony MSRP, there's also gonna be the used market.
-
So the main selling point of the vita was playing psp games?
Backwards Compatibility is a major selling point for device upgrades for some people I'm guessing Sony's not ready to put the PSP out to pasture by like Buuhan said it's make's sense if you're looking at this from a "frugal" consumer standpoint.
-
I just heard Gravity Rush is download only in the EU. That was the only game I cared about getting for the Vita. God dammit. -_-
-
So, the PS2 games are on PSN in Europe now, with a whopping 27 titles.

Too bad less than a third are even interesting.
-
Less than a 1/3?
I wouldn't buy a single game on that list.
so nvm you were right less than a 1/3. 0 is less than a 1/3
-
God Hand and Maximo are the only interesting games on that list IMO.
-
A-TRAIN! I remember that from the Amiga XD (I think) would be tempted by that but it's not really at a price point to just randomly take a chance on. Maybe if it was £4 and on the 3DS or something.
SSX, Maximo and God Hand are probably pretty decent tho. But not at those prices. None of them sell for more than £2 on their normal systems
-
Can somebody say f-f-f-f-failure?
-
Geeze. I didn't think it was doing that badly.
Then again, there are pretty much no games I want on the system, and the now apparent lack of 3rd party support probably means I'll pass on this one all together.
-
They're not kidding when they say Sony has a tough mountain to climb. Having all your 3rd party developers bail on you is rough.
-
Well, was ANYBODY excited for this system? Anybody at all?
I love my PS3, but I really don't need it on the go. The PSP was already pretty kick ass and was basically a PS2.5… don't need the minor jump to the new system.
Especially if its not going to have any games or support.
-
My city's paper did a review of the Vita today, but it basically boiled down to ''the Vita's nice an' all…but why would I want this when I have an android/iPhone?''
-
While the Vita may not have very many games, iPhones don't have any "game" games. Just stupid little flash games to play in the five minutes you're not doing something. For the most part that is.
-
I've NEVER understood the whole cellphone games vs handheld games debate. As said above, the majority of them are just flash games that don't last. An occasional addicting one, but they lose their flavor pretty darn quick.
I have an android phone, with angry birds (the poster boy of app games) and a SNES and GBA emulator… which is great (aside from the slide out keyboard controls on the device... those suck), but I never find myself playing it for long... if AT ALL. Like, never. I even have FFVI emulated and I just don't use it for that. Almost makes me wonder what i need this thing for, other than e-mail, text, and calls.
But I guess that says why i'm not gonna get the Vita... no matter HOW much hype I feel coming from it ATM. I sorta just game at home...
-
Hmmmm. So Japanese developers are abandoning it too? The only thing that had me on the fence was that the PSP did get a lot of great JRPGs in it's lifetime. I was kinda expecting that to continue with the Vita but sounds like it won't.
-
I actually think the Vita is a cool device and the starters line-up is already better than the 3ds.
For me it seem to be more interesting than the psp ever was.But it's just way to expensive, and im not paying that much for the memory cards.
Besides i already own a 3ds.. which i rarely play
Maybe if it's around the 150/200 euro with a large memory card, i might reconsider. -

I find this rather hilarious. All I have on my phone are tetris and something about birds and a temper, and I only play those games when I wait for my labs to start or in potentially social situations (I'm that guy).
The vita looks pretty dang impressive for a handheld, but I'm not really compelled to buy it. I just haven't seen a whole lot of exclusives for it (yet). Uncharted looks amazing, but I don't really feel like spending a whole lot of money on a console for a single game. Again.
Looking back at the PSP, the only games I ever bought for it were Metal Gear games, God of War, and an ATV game that came with the system. I hope the Vita will have more great games to offer, but the article makes it look rather doubtful.

Glad I wasn't the only one getting tired of this whole "smartphones & tablets are going to kill handhelds" debate. The people insisting this are about as bright as the people who think that e-mail is a suitable replacement for traditional mail under notion you can get everything through email and everyone on the planet has access to a computer.
-
The Vita is going to need a couple of years, so I'm not entirely surprised.
It's just going to take a while for its media/specs to become more standard and cheaper.
Sorta like what the PS3 did when it first came out. PSP was almost the same, but the UMD format was a failed investment unlike Blu Ray. -
Sony's on damage control calling the matter of Japanese developers abandoning the Vita "greatly exaggerated" and that they have plenty of developers working on Vita titles now AND in the forseeable future.
-

Do you think they would come out and say 'yeah. They're leaving us.' on the same week as the US/UK launch? Also remember. These are the same ones who thought the PSP Go was a sucess.
Although to be honest, I've yet to see any names of developers thats dropping their titles.
-
By saying "exaggerated", doesn't it seem to imply that there is at least some truth to the statement? Because exaggerated means making it seem bigger than it is, which would imply it is happening to some extent. And of course Sony wouldn't want to say all the japanese developers are bailing on them. It probably is exaggerated, but one wonders to what extent it is true

[h=1]SMT: Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2 coming to Euro PSN[/h]
Might get those. -
More like damn right you're getting those
-
I always wanted to dwell into some other SMT series besides Persona and Devil Survivor. Looks like I have my change now.
-
Man, I really need to play more of that game. I've gotten maybe…30 minuets into it? It's not that it's a bad game by any means, I just got it when I had a HUGE amount of games come my why it sort of fell by the wayside.
-
How many did they do? Coulda sworn I saw one of them (2 or 3) pre-owned for about 2 or 3 quid a few days ago.
-

-
PS Vita launch is million miles better than 3DS launch at least.
Even if Katamari is still kind of "shows that creator ditched it and it's zombied into continuing life"
I mean, Gravity Rush is supposedly one of the best launch games ever too. That's kind of exciting.
I hope a continuing flow of at least good/great games happens over the year.
But what's this I hear about possible no developer support?
-
Unless Sony radically changed over the last few years I'm of the mind to wait a year or two before bothering to get a Vita.
But I'm sure once it does get good it will be undeniably so.
