@everyone: Thanks guys, thought as much. Well, that's a shame. Don't really have the time right now to plow through the game before the Plus subscription is up, and I'm going to be preoccupied with other games anyhow.
I'll be sure to take advantage of the discount at some point, though. ^^

Spirits Within is garbage.
I actually like that movie. I saw it on the day it came out and own it on Blu-ray. I think it wouldn't be viewed as negatively if the title didn't have "Final Fantasy" in it.
-
If the movie didn't have the Final Fantasy tag it WOULD be a better movie imo.
Branding it with that particular name didn't do it any favors.
@Dervish - nice sig >:D
-
@Robby: You have a good point there but the issue I'm facing has more to do with the frequent power cuts in my place (my UPS has a delay of about 1 sec which is enough to turn off my PS3). While I don't think Sony can do anything about this, they could provide a torrent based alternative download option. Besides reducing the load on their servers, this would also reduce the number of corrupted downloads. However, if it is the filesystem that is responsible for the corrupted downloads (broken memory references and such), then I guess it would be nice if they provide a data recovery option which fixes these pointers (of course I'm not familiar with their filesystem so I don't know how feasible this will be). This is just a suggestion and I think Sony's welcome back program is a nice gesture on their part. But by fixing this, they can make it easier and less frustrating for users to download content from the PSN.
-
When I download a large file I put it as a background download so i don't have to be signed in to the psn and I can pause the download and continue it later but I don't know what happens to it when the power cuts out.
-
Well I downloaded inFamous and Dead Nation, and they only took about 2 and a half to 3 hours to download, so I guess I got lucky.

You did. it took almost 12 hours for Infamous to download for me, though Dead Nation only took two and a half.
-
Pretty sure you guys just have crappy internet. I have good internet, but nothing impressive, and I have an old router that is 70ft away from my PS3 that always has a rather weak signal percentage, but I still get downloads at a fair speed. Not as quick as I want, but it sure doesn't take half a day to download something.

I nabbed inFAMOUS on day one and I should get the other games when I care to.
It has terrible combat. It is flat out some of the worst combat I've played with an this kind of action game. Maybe this is just one isolated problem that has to do with the geomeotry level, but I had to pull up four people to watch me play this and we had to study it to determine what any of us were doing wrong. But as far as we can tell there is nothing wrong with us, it's just awful combat.
Out of the two kinds of enemies that exist ROOFTOP ENEMIES and NOT ROOFTOP ENEMIES, the enemies that stay on fucking rooftops can shoot you with perfect precision (I honestly think they're not programmed to miss, if they fire the bullet instantly hits you despite them being fucking MILES AWAY AND ON ROOFTOPS), and then if they're on the ground, they just swarm you and since the character has the durability of a wet napkin, he's instantly dead. When I try meleeing the enemies, they fucking run backwards and just flat out run from me as I get shot by other assholes.
It has the worst cover system of all time, hands down, since it does not help you, or cover you, a single bit, Four guys are in front of me, I am behind a wall, but the guy ON THE OTHER SIDE, who is on a rooftop, can shoot me perfectly, despite there being absolutely no way this is physically possible. There's then absolutely no place I can run to, because no matter how much I dodge and how much I jump, their bullets just magically hit me constantly. It is seriously just a bomb.
This is awful. I was kind of having fun up until this when I realized what a shitty system this is. Fuck you Cole, you're a terrible superhero. It's even worse since the whole GOOD GUY approach is hampered by my inability to save anybody since citizens are RUNNING INTO FUCKING COMBAT AND GETTING SHOT CONSTANTLY
SORRY RETARDS I CAN'T HELP YOU WHEN I'M DYING MYSELF

XD I had fun playing it myself, and I didn't die too often, but yeah. It can be pretty brutal near the beginning of the game when you're just getting a hand on the combat system, and the enemies don't get any easier.
-
Once I beat that mission the combat hasn't been as terrible since then, so I'm filing it under one really unfortunate case of terrible level design combining with its combat system flaws, since all of the combat since then has been much more doable.
-
I don't remember having that much problems and I constantly get shot to death in any FPS I play.
-
Yeah, inFAMOUS definitely has some uneven difficulty. It can be brutal at times.
-
My problem with Infamous is that it just felt it was going on forever. And I didn't even play much of it. IIRC I beat one gang and then went to another part of the city (or was it an Island?) to meet a load of Garbagemen who were identical to the gang I just beat.

Ouch, that sucks, Holy. Oh well, at least you didn't pay for it!
Thank you for the warning, though. Now I know to pick up LBP and . . . . . something else.
-
Infamous apparently gets better as you get used to the system and get more abilities. One of my friends swears its a great game.
Also, its helpful if you're used to deadly deadly archers in Dynasty Warriors.
-
goddami deadly archers. The amount of times I've been killed by a random arrow is annoying. Although they're not half as bad in DW7 thankfully.
-
Infamous is just one of those games where you have to find the quickest way to dispatch enemies before they get an upper hand. It's almost like an arcade game at times and I find that quite fun. That and his powers are really damned cool. I suppose difficulty isn't a thing for everyone as I also get a good feeling playing through missions on Vanquish(which is also a really unforgiving game, but kickass when you kick ass)
-
I personally enjoyed the shit out of infamous.
Replayed it 3 times, and got the platinum.
And i rarely replay a game.Once you'll get more powers, it gets more fun.
-
One way to make infamous a lot easier is to upgrade the damage reduction all the way.
After doing that you can literally stand in front of a group of about 5 reapers and just melee them all to death without dying.
Biggest thing though is to just be aware of your environment and know where to drain electricity from (another upgrade you should try to get early is quicker drain).
Also, as you get more powers the game becomes almost too simple. Especially the last power, which, while being totally bad ass, is completely overpowered.
Only other thing I can say is collect your blast shards, because every time you add a new core your attacks become stronger and it takes more to kill you.
-
Infamous was so easy, I have no idea where theses comments are coming from saying it's hard.
The only 2 hard things in Infamous:
The demo
Final Fight on Hard with Maxed out Evil. -
The only parts of the game that ever gave me any trouble were the substation runs.
I'd always manage to fall off one building and then get swamped.
Also, getting a couple of the stunts can be quite agravating. More specifically the one where you have to blast 3 guys off a building at the same time.
-
I'm not talking about inFAMOUS being actually hard. I was talking about the most annoying as fuck isolated case where its system just flat out was broken. Difference between a game being "hard" and a game just not working. I'm blazing through it now and I have yet to encounter another area with that similar spread of enemies over that kind of area, luckily.
I'm still finding more fun in the collectibles than the missions and story quests anyways, since I can't really get into sandbox games without feeling like I'm… doing something (ala RDR) but I'm not sure how long that's gonna last.
I'm still glad I got it since it's a free game and it's fun when it's fun.

I love Vanquish. I played it on hardest difficulty and it was a blast.
-
I get what you mean. I underestimated you.

Any fan of Vanquish is a buddy of mine

@Holy:

Its a shame that game came out when it did, (I think it was released in the same week that had some big games) so a lot of people bye passed it, which is a shame cause I picked it up by accident and it was brillaint.
-
Ha ha ha ha….
Oh Jack, you card, making light of a major security breach that you failed to inform people about.
It certainly did give the journalists something to report on, and no YOU'RE WELCOME! -
checks out the Sony presentation
Ok, what do we got… Uncharted, Resitance, Move stuff, ok then. 3D stuff, cheap 3d tv's, that's not bad.
Sports gam.... wait, what was that they said about the 3D tv? Each player wearing glasses can see their own HUD while gaming without having the screen split?! Ok that's pretty cool.
-
Playstation Vita? what the?
-
So the long rumored official name being Vita was true. Also $249! Great to see Sony finally knows they gotta competitively price things. But chances are that came with a price and more or less cements the rumors flying around that the Vita's specs have been downgraded since its introduction. But to lose 300mb or so of RAM for a cheaper price, I'll take it.
The AT&T exclusive is complete bullshit, I loved how the audience boo'd and then quickly starting to applaud as to not be rude.
-
Definitely getting a Vita. That Gravity Daze game looks impressive. Was really disappointed they just showed footage of it in a montage reel. I almost fell outta my seat when they showed off the new Sly Cooper game. Was also impressed with that 3D TV.
-
That 3D TV bundle would be terrific… if it wasn't only 24 inches. 3D and anything higher than 720p is worthless on a TV that small.
-
Good price.
Now be region free.
-
With the price that Vita will have, I will definately pick it up.
Anyway, I have some spare money on the PSN, and I don't know what to buy… I've been thinking of the Back to the Future games, since I'm a pretty big Telltale fan... Anyone know if they're good, o have any other recommendations?
-
Well, the monkey island remakes rock. But if you've already played them they might not be worth it.
There are the sam and max games, and puzzle agent.
-
Sam and Max I've played, but I haven't played the Monkey Island remakes. I'm gonna have to check them out. Will they be fun to play even if I've played the originals several times over?
-
Not a bad price for the Vita. Although the size is still putting me off. I liked the RPG game and Dynasty Warriors but…..that's about it. Once they start announcing some JRPGs I'll probably want one. But for LBP, Modnation and Uncharted? No thanks.
I wonder if we'll get a stylus or a thumb thing similar to the DS too. I don't fancy the idea of getting the screen dirty from my thumbs
Whatever happened to Sorcery btw? That looked great last year.
Oh....and it's over. I was expecting some big announcement on something. There was only really
DimitriSly 4. Watched for 10 mins at the end with some DJ XD I guess the price was the big announce. -
Yes. Parts 1 & 2 of Tales of Monkey Island aren't that great, but 3, 4 & 5(especially 3) are very good.
Also, if you have a decent computer, you might want to use your psn money on something else and look at the PC versions instead - everything but Back to the Future & Puzzle Agent 2 in the telltale store is 75% off at the moment.
-
I'm pretty doubtful that my computer can handle it, it's quite old. I'm still gonna check it out, sales are always a good thing.
-
Touchscreen, blech. I realize its the direction everything is going thanks to the ipad and whatnot, and maybe it makes me a Luddite, but I just don't like it. Finger to screen pressing just feels weird and dirties the screen. And a stylus like on the ds is awkward too and gets in the way of playing because you have to keep switching between pad and stylus… (with the exception of TWEWY, still the only game I've seen that makes legit use of the dual screens and the touch screen... but it makes it a pain to play Okami while traveling)
Maybe if it wasn't just a gimmick on... everything.
I dunno. I'm an avid gamer but I'm starting to feel like an old fart that complains about the good old days. I just want a regular controller, I don't want touch screen or motion controls or camera interactivity or whatever else. Give me a solid game, not an interaction gimmick that's in most cases poorly implemented and gets in the way of the game.
-
I forgot to mention.
YES for Ico + Shadow Of The Collossus for Sept. (Although I stumbled upon that yesterday on play.com where they said 29th September for it lol.)
-
Yeah I want that Ico/Shadow of the Collossus bundle.
-
How many of y'all would be down for an HD remake of the Devil May Cry series?
-
I'm down.
-
Yeah, but not the second game.
-
Cool.
I got this theory. If we keep chatting about things like that, maybe one of their internet market research dudes will think a lot of people want it. Ergo, it will be done!
-

I was hoping that it would be made out of a nicer material that wouldn't smudge up
The perfect touch screen should have the feel of matte, but the clarity of glass
I wonder if it's a pipe dream
Also why has only the DSi XL had a matte finish? Nobody wants glossy feeling handhelds, it's gross
-
A Devil May Cry HD collection was actually announced a few weeks back, least I thought it was.
-

I would… gives me time to play the whole series since ive missed 1-3 already
