hahaha.
So I try out the new HOME beta. I get half way through the avatar creation and it just drops out with the connection error. Can I get back in? Can I bollocks.
So much for trying out HOME any time soon.
All of the servers overloaded that day.
You should be fine now.

HAHA, GG, I've seen more people with PS2 problems than PS3 problems.
Yeah, there shouldn't be any, but that doesn't mean PS3s are worthless.
Besides, when the price drops, I bet you'll want one then (I didn't want a PS2 for the longest time and didn't get one until 2006…for FFXII)

not to start a console debate or war (seriously, I really mean it!).
i'd have to say, both systems have had their fair share of screw-ups (or failure's if you will). But i've noticed that people seem to come down on Sony harder than MS though. At the gamestop I work for, my manager has had his 360s brick on him about 10 times. I've met people who've gone through more! But many gamers seem to be very passive towards that problem.
Although i gotta say… sony had to go and compete with MS for dumb-ass trophies. And since it's applying new software to the PS3's OS... there is going to be bugs involved. But after reading the forum link that RuNa posted.. i'm pretty disappointed with the lack of attention Sony is giving to such a bad problem (for such a new feature).
Plus I'm really sick of playing 360 hand-me-downs. No Fallout 3 or GTA4 downloadable content is really a kick to the nuts. And if more and more sweet multi-platform games get watered down on the PS3, i just wont buy them. I can go to my friends house to play em. PS3 has a shit-ton of fucking potential and Sony should be banking on it.
LBP was sweet and Metal Gear was cool in the summer... but I'd like to see more exclusives Sony. (and no.. i don't want exclusive games just cause I don't own a 360 or cause i'm some whining sony fanboy. I just want to see this big piece of technology I own, pushed to it's limit!)
lol, damn, now i'm coming down on Sony, my bad.
That's it... end of rant.
-

Not sure about Fallout 3, but it was reported a while back that GTA4 was just going to have time-exclusivity to the 360 but will still be in the PS3 version.

It's more that the PS3 is still really fucking expensive, and people expect Sony to be more on top of things concerning something like that.
While the 360 has a disgustingly high failure rate, I have to give Microsoft credit for actually taking responsibility and fixing shit when it breaks.
Not really an excuse for the rate at which the things screw up, but still.
-
@RuNa- for real? i'd be cool with waiting for the DLC. That would be nice. And i'm pretty sure it's 360 only for fallout.
@Zenigame- i get what you're saying. Although.. it would make the most sense that Microsoft takes care of it's american customers. lol, I think they have no choice though since the US is like their largest and only market (compared to Sony's world market).
and right now the cheapest, brand-new, 360 is $200 in stores (the arcade pack with like no hard drive).
the cheapest PS3, i believe, is $400. with an 80gb hard drive and blu-ray player. That is really not a bad deal at all, IMO.
-
Greg, did you every get your system running again?)
My system was bricked.
I contacted Sony and let them know firmly but professionaly how goddamn fucking pissed I was. The rep who handled my case, who was actually cool, said that in my case, my system was actually voided from the warranty as it had left the States so he suggested I send it home and then have it sent to Sony. Which I did.
It's the best of a FUCKING AWFUL situation but this means my PS3 officially cost me 600 bucks as it was 200 bucks to and from the States AGAIN. It's at my home in the States and my parents will send it back to me after I get back to my home in Fukui after Christmas break.

So the backup method wouldn't even work (hold Power button for a few seconds when turning on to get to the boot-menu. A reformat can be performed here)?Things like those are the number 1 reason I don't have a 360 right now. EVERY SINGLE PERSON I KNOW IN REAL LIFE HAS HAD A BRICKED SYSTEM OR TOO (RROD).
PS3's, of course, can be attributed to the daily/weekly updates that haven't been tested.
Who knows what the 360's reason is. It has like 3 updates all year.
-
360 problems has mostly been hardware related. And Live related. Although I don't expect anything to happen my 360. Been working fine so far and RRoD it seem pretty unlikely… although I'm usually pretty unlucky when it comes to stuff like this.
-
^aw! don't say that dude! don't wanna jinx it ^^
btw, my PS3 bitching aside.. anyone tried home yet? I hear it's pretty snazzy
-
Nah, I like to play with fire once in awhile
. Makes life interesting. Actually, the console I'm genuinely worried about is my DS. I'm not sure if it lives to see another year, and I'm pretty sure my warranty for that has long expired. I won't be buying a new if it dies.
Yeah, everybody and their mommas seems to be praising Home. Looks pretty cool too, although Habbo Hotel/Second Life kinda stuff has never really been my thing.
-
-
ok… well now that i've had a good deal of time messing with Home Beta.
I gotta say that it's fun.. and it isn't
It's a really surprising free feature for Sony to just give to us... and it has lots of room to improve in the future (and probably will) I cannot wait to customize my apartment add some of my artwork and invite other people over to watch It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia episodes I have uploaded. It sounds fun
But at it's core... it's just a chat room with avatars and a couple minigames at the moment. I've had many people come up and bother the shit out of me while I actually try to have a meaningful conversation with some one. Immaturity is abound in this one. You get people posing as the opposite gender (for lulz i guess...) and it's mostly guys acting as girls when it happens (although it's funny to see a girl surrounded by dudes asking where she is from only to have her turn into a dude). I dunno.
It's free i guess...
Oh and that vid is down Gaiyae
-
So I hear Home is a steaming pile. But um, God of War 3? Yes please, I'll have some of that. Do you see how simple the textures are on Kratos???? Do you know what kind of areas and enemies that will allow for? Oh man.
See 'Location:'
-
home isnt that fun imo. all you do is virtual versions of things you already do irl.
-
Home is fun for me because I talk with my friends from across the country while playing games like pool.
It's still in Beta, BTW.
-
Haha GOW3 looks pretty meh for a PS3 game. It looks good but MGS4 looked better when it was first shown. Killzone looked waaaaaaaaay better when it was shown in E3 07 i think (not the fake trailer in 05). Uncharted looks waaaaaaaay better.
-
Kratos is angry. Okey perhaps the trailer wasn't the best thing ever but, unless they screw things up really badly, you know the game will be epic. Yoska
GoW.
-
Haha GOW3 looks pretty meh for a PS3 game.
Like God of War 1 and 2 before it they're obviously going for low polygon counts on Kratos to create environments and villains that rip our eyes out.
I myself was surprised Kratos has a relatively low texture but the fact that they're going for it means they're going for a smooth-running game.
Yes MGS is incredibly impressive. Note that Snake doesn't jump off walls, fly on gryphons, mount cyclops and disembowel centaurs while bouncing off the walls of a canyon.
-
the new Uncharted: Among Thieves. looks really good!! naughty dog is just getting better and better at crafting those awe-inspiring environments! Looks like they'll be going for a more arctic setting this time!
Go Dude Raider!!
-
When I get that PS3 I'm totally buying Drake's Fortune. That game should be pretty cheap by now anyway.
-
Go Dude Raider!!
Ahem, the proper term is MAN Raider, thankyouverymuch.
But honestly, while Drake's Fortune was quite fun, I have to say that it's kind of the perfect rental game. Great to look at, solid action, but also a linear narrative that you can beat in a few afternoons. I borrowed a friend's copy and burned through it quickly.
I imagine that the second one will be similar - fun, pretty, but short and without a ton of replay value. Gamefly was made for games like these.
But, seriously Insomniac… I like you guys a lot, but how about some Jak 4? Er, Jak 5 if you count the racing game. If you made a J&D game on the PS3, I'd be all over that in two seconds. I want to collect some power cells!
-
The three games I'm really looking forward to are God of War 3, Tekken 6, and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2. I also looking forward to Gran Turismo 5 (and no, I'm not referring to the "Prologue" game, I'm talking about the real deal), but I have no idea when it's coming out.
-

agreed. As much as i'd love to support naughty dog for their awesome efforts at making an extremely fun rollarcoster ride, replay value is nearly non-existent without some form of multiplayer or online mode. But either way, i'll definitely check it out for rental since it's like watching a movie itself. The first game was great! The characters themselves are worth the play alone!

(wow, Sony hasn't been too popular on this forum… then again, they aren't anywhere anymore)
Soooo... I got a text from G4 a few days ago saying Sony just reported a lose of $1 Billion in the last year...
Think it's time for a PS3 price drop, Sony? I do.
-
(wow, Sony hasn't been too popular on this forum… then again, they aren't anywhere anymore)
Really? I hadn't noticed. I was too busy enjoying my PS3 and PSP games ^_^;
Soooo… I got a text from G4 a few days ago saying Sony just reported a lose of $1 Billion in the last year...
Mammoth companies are constantly reporting losses. And everytime it's reported it seems like its a big deal to people that haven't heard those same reports from years ago.
Sony seems to be doing just fine all things considered.
I'm more considered about the jackass companies (I'm talking to you SE) developing for them.
-
Honestly with the way the global economy has been, stories about Big Company X reporting Big Fucking Loss Y have become so abundant that Sony's report doesn't surprise nor phase me in the least.
I'm more interested whether that new black, cheap-ass looking doormat is the a new PS3 slim model or the new Chinese PopStation.
-
Still, a price drop WOULD be nice. Btw, I've been wondering something. Has a date been given when PS2 support (both consoles and games) will be discontinued? By that I mean, no more PS2 games being developed and being sold in stores.
-
There's some leaked pictures of the new playstation http://www.gamereactor.se/bild/?textid=17863&id=182713 it's not confirmed though.
-
Still calling shenanigans on this.
-
Still, a price drop WOULD be nice.
The system has already dropped around 300$ from it's original 700$ asking price. I'd say that's pretty "Nice".
I say it all the time, but you get a Blu-ray player, free internet service (PSN), built in Wi-Fi (getting an adapter for the 360 costs 100$), and more features that most people never even use (holds videos, pictures, music). Not to mention you can easily upgrade the hard drive (without voiding the warranty or paying ridiculous prices for a hard drive like MS).
phew… ok, gotta stop ranting. I'm not at work. ughh.
Basically, the system is currently at a very reasonable asking price. They've had to remove certain older model features (the number of USB slots, all the card slots, PS2 backwards compatibility) to lower it to the current price. I still cannot believe it's too expensive for people. Yeah if it was a Wii priced like that or a 360 even... i'd be pissed. But you're getting a PS3 here.
anyway, here's what I did to get mine (which was 500$ at the time).
-work a job
-get paid
-repeat
-used saved money to buy high-end productYeah, I earned that shit.
But I'm not trying to chew your ear off. I just think that many systems are becoming very high end and people need to realize that they're paying for a really fine piece of technology. Personally, I think the new Ipod Touch is too expensive. My buddy just bought a professional mountain bike for around 1400$. A BIKE!!!
-
I bought mine on an impulse when I saw the MGS4 bundle :X
-
same here. When Sony announced it in april… I was like "Damn!! it's down to 500 dollars? And MGS4 comes with it!!? I'd better start saving"
-
Not to mention you can easily upgrade the hard drive (without voiding the warranty or paying ridiculous prices for a hard drive like MS).
How much does a new Hard Drive cost for the PS3?
-
well, Sony doesn't make one's specifically for the Ps3. but most SATA hard drives (usually for notebooks or laptops) are fairly cheap. I've seen ones up to 300gb for less than 100$.
-

No, I literally went through with the transaction right away when I shouldn't have (needed to pay for school).
-
So this is pretty lame.
A LOT of Japanese Developers and companies won't be present at E3 this year because of "growing concerns related to the H1N1 flu".
They also confirmed that because of this reason, Dead Rising 2 won't even be shown at E3.
-
wow, that is pretty lame
Excuse to be lazy?
noo… they want to make money. So not giving their games over-seas publicity would be a bad thing.
Damn.. that afraid of the ol' swine flu?
-
Still the Tokyo Gameshow if it's not shown somewhere else.
-
Damn.. that afraid of the ol' swine flu?
I live in the atomic center of nowhere and face masks are sold out everywhere.
Japanese people….
-
At a panel today at Anime North, Hiyama Nobuyuki was talking about how people over there are freaking the hell out about Swine Flu, and he himself had honestly expected the con to have been cancelled because of it.(he showed up anyways though, since he is manly and awesome.)
So yeah, it doesn't surprise me that the large developers would be more than a bit freaked out.
-
Sooo…. I've been playing the inFamous demo.
Hit. Trust me on this one.
-
Sooo…. I've been playing the inFamous demo.
Hit. Trust me on this one.
I'm getting the game in a few hours.
-
Square Enix mentioned that the company will reveal three previously unannounced titles at E3 2009. Rumor reported that two of the which will be sequels to their bigger franchises.
One of them is probably a new FFVII game or another FFXIII game.
-
So true RuNa. So true.
HEY HOW ABOUT ANOTHER CHR-aw fuck it.
-
^keep dreaming. cause you know it ain't happening
Now that Infamous game looks pretty cool. Gonna be trading in Bionic Commando (piece of shit) towards that purchase.
-
Gonna be trading in Bionic Commando (piece of shit) towards that purchase.
That game was fun….but....I want to know where the other 2/3rds of the game went (oh, and how am I supposed to believe that the same people who wrote the dialogue and story on Rearmed wrote this?)
-
Gonna be trading in Bionic Commando (piece of shit) towards that purchase.
What possessed you to buy it?
