Yeah, I read about that somewhere… Isn't one of the characters named after Metallica? I know there's some other rock music-inspired things in that series, I'm not sure since I've never seen/read it ^^

Well, I don't watch the show, but I was reading the Heroes topic awhile back.
Supposedely, the character from the show Heroes likes DBZ. There's even an official "web log" for the character which mentions Future Trunks. And he's a time traveller. And the future version has a sword. So it makes sense to me.
So, again, I don't watch the show. But it seems like a fairly obvious inspiration.
-
I'm on a Kinnikuman high lately.
OK, I don't have a picture to compare it to, but Bo-bobo has an attack called "Jelly Magnum" where he punches Tennosuke's head and causes his face to shoot out.
Anyway…

Those just seem like Asian Martial Artists to me. I mean, if that's what you're comparing, why not just compare evert Naruto character to Bruce Lee?
-
Hahaha, this is too easy so I'll pass

XDDD WTF
To say Rock Lee and Hitmonlee aren't based on Bruce Lee….
-
Bobobo can't be compared to, the whole things a joke.
It's like saying Denbo Chan looks like Sailor Moon(which is true) but bobobo makes jokes oput of everything, including other Anime, so of course they'll look the same, they are a direct inspiration.
But other series copying bobobo is fine.
Same with students, it's like cpmaring Midori no Hibi to Yu Yu Hakusho, just because the main characters are both fighters and wear japanese school uniforms. Hey actually I drew a nice comparison there.

! [qimg]http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/4531/bruce1hj5.jpg[/qimg]
Isn't Bruce Lee worshipped like a deity over in Japan and China? Mainly how Client Eastwood is over here in America?
Still I thought that everyone knew that those two pokemon were based on Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan. Their bloody names had the words Chan and Lee at the end.
-
It's obvious that Rock Lee is definitely inspired by Bruce Lee.
But as for Hitmonlee, it probably only applies to his English name. His Japanese name was Sawamura. According to Wikipedia it is probably a reference to this Japanese kickboxer guy with the same name.
I have some interesting video game character inspiration stuff, but not any direct anime/manga ones. But I'll post them anyway if it's nobody cares.

Way to not make any sense.
The Jelly Magnum thing was never directly implied to be a parody of anything, hence why I was surprised when I came across that in my Kinnikuman scans.
And Denbo-chan is a spoof of the "magical girl" genre, which isn't limited to Sailor Moon. That, and she doesn't really have any resemblance to Sailor Moon..
-
I thought that Bo Bo Bo was a parody of all manga/anime clichés in general, along with many series directly being parodied. There were some series just parodied if they had something interesting happening in one scene, like how in FLCL the characters’ used manga style artwork to have fun.
[EDIT: I forgot to add in this, I wish that Opera had a built in spell checker, but again, I have to be a perfectionist on spelling.]
Which if something that odd would happen in a series once, Bo Bo Bo would make a parody of it later.
-

Hahah, whoops, I couldn't remember their names.

Omg Its Herculess!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Actually, his name is Satan, and Hercule in the dub.
It's obvious that Rock Lee is definitely inspired by Bruce Lee.

Huh, so it was a reference to Sawamura. Pretty interesting. What about the Chan one?
We might as well post the videogame ones. Well, really, I'm just interested.
-

Well, I looked it up on google and found:
Ebiwalar (Hitmonchan) is probably based on "Hiroyuki Ebihara", a Japanese boxer.
Okay, to get started with video games…I have been wondering about this one for a long time, so I am going to try a comparison:
Zues (ADK/SNK's World Heroes series of games) and Falco (Hokuto no Ken/Fist of the North Star):
(Sorry about the quality, I put it together with Paint and don't have time to use another program to make it a higher quality gif)I don't know anything about Falco, because I've only seen images, but I always saw him in the SNES Hokuto no Ken fighting games.
And I could never find out who Zeus was supposed to be a reference to (except for the name Zues, but other than that he didn't seem to have anything to do with the Greek god). I always thought he was a Hokuto no Ken reference because of his design, but I could never quite place him.
Not sure if they have similar fighting styles though. They probably have different personalities too (because I've read that Falco is honorable, and I can't tell about Zeus - I do know that Zues likes to fight strong opponents though, and dislikes weak people).
-
Falco was pretty lame, so you're not missing much.
What I wanna find is a good pic of the Riki-Oh character that inspired Vega/Bison.
-

Here's the comparison site:
http://mitleid.cool.ne.jp/vega-washizaki.htm(The bottom picture might be from Doomed Megalopolis, but I dunno)
I don't know where to find any other pictures though. I was really wanting to see the DVD releases of the Riki-Oh anime, but the company that had them decided not to bring them out after all.
I just noticed I wrote Zeus as "Zues" about half the time in my last post.
-
I don't have any pics right now, but Stroheim from Jojo part 2, and Guile from Street Fighter.
-
I'm not sure where it was, and I dunno who else remembers, but I remember putting up pics of Rose from SF and Lisa Lisa.
-
I don't have any pics right now, but Stroheim from Jojo part 2, and Guile from Street Fighter.
Speaking of Stroheim, I also think he might have inspired Brocken from World Heroes. But I'm not too sure about it, just a guess. I do know that Neo-Dio is definitely based on Baoh (another Araki manga) and the JoJo 2 lifeforms. So it isn't too much of a stretch I guess. I'll get some pics up of both later.
Oh, and lot's of people say Rolento (Final Fight/SFA) was inspired by the Colonel (from Hokuto no Ken).
-
I think the Colonel might've inspired Heidern as well.
-
Ah, you are right. I'm surprised I didn't think about it. They've even both got the whole eyepatch thing going on.
Okay, here's some more (tell me, is it okay for me to be posting such large pictures, or should I post them as links instead?):
Brocken (World Heroes) - I believe he is inspired by Brocken Jr. from Kinnikuman. Not only his name and outfit, but also his obscured eyes (since he often wears shades). Also, he's a robotic German super soldier, which reminds me of Stroheim from JJBA. This also reminds me of Cyborg 004 from Cyborg 009, who was a German cyborg with lots of hidden weapons in his body. I think he even has a move where he shoots a missile out of his leg like Brocken.Oh, and there's also the Terminator:
I need to find good pics before I can make a Neo-Dio comparison. But I'll do that next.
I've posted this before, but I'll post it again:
This was from an advertisment I scanned from an old Gamefan magazine. It was like 1996 or 1997, I dunno. But whatever the case, it came out before Guilty Gear for PS1.I'm guessing it's probably the same artist, and he re-used some of his old character designs for GG.
-
I think Rao from Sand Land is designed after Nappa from DBZ, facial feature wise. Probably is since both series were created Akira Toriyama. Also, the Demon King is obviously Dabura.
It's a shame it's so hard to find pics of Sand Land.
-
My Neo-Dio comparison:
Here
-Baoh = looks the same, arm blades-Cars = (blades, Neo-Dio is listed in his WHP profile as "Ultimate Thing" like the villains of JJBA Part 2)
-Guyver = arm blades, chest blast
And
HereOh, and those sprites in the second image are from NGBC, not WH. I messed up but don't feel like fixing it.
Neo-Dio is listed as a vampire in one of the profiles I think. And his name is Dio, so he could have been named from JJBA's Dio.
