Is anyone else watching this series. I love it, but I just finished watching episode 15 and…WOW!!! This last arc has been a real mind fuck. I mean it is good but is one of the most twisted things I have ever seen.
Black Lagoon

Wow, I just read the first chapter of the manga yesterday. Cool to know the anime is being put out.
-
I watched it up to episode 5 like 4 months ago…I stopped and deleted it after a few months of it sitting on my computer.
-
i'm stuck at ep 13 but the first season was amazing and ep 13 kicks ass.
yep, these kids are fucked up. hellraiser might be their father.
-
Awesome series, haven't watched the second season yet though.
Planning to show this at anime club next semester with Honey & Clover. Quite a pair.

yeah, i just finished the last arc yesterday, and it was a shocker.
-
I felt bad for the kids. But sadly there was no other possible ending for them
and yeah Balck lagoon is the best thing since sliced bread.
now i have to get me the chapter 38 -46(7?) , even thouhg i don't understand shit it's enouhg for me to only watch at the pics

I'm through episode twenty two of the second season, and honestly, this series was a huge disappointment.
It's probably because I went to this show on the recommendation that it's appropriate for "ADD infested action-thumpers" like myself who live in a post Gurren-Lagann world. I also came for scenes where Rock acts Gar and Revy likewise - a real manly/badarse action movie in anime form.
The first couple arcs were great, especially the first when Rock shows his ingenuity. Second arc, with the submarine, was awesome too, not to mention the one where Rock shows off his "negotiation" skills.
After that - the maid arc (ugh), the incest twins (ugh!!) and the computer hacker one all reeked of poor writing. Suspension of disbelief wore off during the maid arc - up to that point, BL had some unrealistic bits but none of them were over the top for action movies. When Roberta appeared, the story started to feel very "shounen" as it were.
I'm neutral toward Rock - he is Gar sometimes but a lame, cowardly whiner elsewise. Dutch admitted there was "villainy" in the hearts of Rock and Benny, I wish I'd seen it more frequently.
Revy was perhaps the biggest letdown - I was expecting her to be semi-psychotic and utterly unhinged in battle, but she's pretty level headed and NOT THAT GREAT A GUNFIGHTER - she and Chang both benefit strongly from plot shielding (most I've seen in any show), such that I can hardly call it "skill".
There's also not enough Benny or Dutch. For all the Revy x Rock moments, they haven't progressed in their relationshp very far since the first three arcs. It's not worth the lack of Benny and Dutch.
-
Make sure you watch the last arc in Japanese for the hilarious Engrish
And I don't think Rock is supposed to be GAR.
-
I'm in the last arc, and honestly, if I was supposed to laugh, I was more annoyed by it.
And it's hard to argue Rock isn't inching toward being a "Gar mass" as it were - he's not the overtly strong type like Dutch or over the top killer like Revy, but his intelligence/skills and application of them is amazing.
As I said, the first arc when he thought up of the torpedo plan on the fly, that was great. As was when he negotiated with the Church of Violence head nun - that was an AWESOME scene.
Rock adapting to his life while still having reservations about the past was awesome, too. I totally admired this "weak" salaryman who time and again showed me one shouldn't partake of stereotypes. He's like Hiraga Saito, only without the magic "hax" from where he draws his strength.
That girl in the final arc put it quite right - Rock's in the twilight. He's not yet made that step into the world of darkness, and he can't return to the world of the sun, yet he can't let go.
-
i completely agree that the second season was a big let down. i was frustrated that the first season ended after 13 episodes but nothing felt particularly enjoying in the second one.
i agree with Terek that rock's development is pretty interesting, though. they handled it quite well. and i like the fact that he can be badass here and there but is globally still a salaryman out of his place. i hate these shows where the main character is a pussy for 4-5 episodes then turns into some badass mofo until the end of the show.
-
I wish they translate more of the manga since I don't like watching anime.
-
Lagoon Company rulessss!!!!
i love this manga, but i prefere the animei think is the 2007 anime masterpiece!
-
I read there is a 3rd season coming up. Anyone got a clue when its gonna be here? I read the latest manga arc and I think its one of the best. On the same lvl as "Calm down, two man" and "Guerillas in the jungle"
-
A series will typically premiere two seasons after the announcement date. Which means, if the announcement was made this Fall, BL 3 will probably come in Spring or Summer.

so there's going to be a new season of this show?
-
Yes it will: Link to the News Post at ANN
And thanks for the info Malintex. Doesn't happen too often that I'm following shorter series as they air, so I didn't know this. Learn something new every day I guessThat date of the announcement was 2008-07-16 so we might not have to wait till next summer.
-
Hell yeah, Black Lagoon comes out next year. That's really great, I love this manga/anime (almost as much as One Piece). And I absolutly agree with mOOn, that 'Calm Down, two Man' was one of the best arcs in the whole serial.
-
Good shit the first season was pretty good….I've been waiting for a second season....almost gave up all hope on that happening.
-
I started watching this series back around when it first came out, got up to like episode 4 before stopping. It was one of the last animes I watched on the computer back in my "Get anime illegally off the net and watch watch watch!" before I stopped and just went to watching anime on the TV, and just not watching any that don't.
Now that I got Starz, I am catching episodes on their Edge channel, it's starting over I guess cause it's right where I left off during the start of the series.
-
well, it was okay, but really unfaithful to the manga.
and the manga was a bit of a bore.
RevyXRock never really advanced after season one
And for BennyXDutch…. see post #8
Romance aside.
the PLOT never advances after the first season.
and thats IMPORTANT
-
I didn't even know this was based off a manga. I thought it was an anime which got a manga.
-
Just found the latest raw on Mangahelpers. Seems like the latest arc is still ongoing… http://mangahelpers.com/downloads/read-online/6651/1
How do they want to make an anime adaption like this. I just hope they don't invent their own crappy ending. :wassat:
-
for the manga readers of this show does the main guy end up fighting later on and using weapons or is it still that chick?
-
! Chicks only
But Rock get more badass with speeches and plans -
I just watched this morning the first 4 episodes of the anime and it rocked. By any chance, is there any chance that there would be a season 3 for it, or is that false (in tv.com it says on hiatus)?
-
yeah aparantly its in production i hope this is tru i love black lagoon
-
If I remember correctly, one of the future anime arcs was going to revolve around Revy and company incurring the wrath of some Islamic terrorists because they had stolen something from them.
Or was that just the manga only?
-
Sorry to bring up the dead but this is probably my second favorite anime next to One Piece. Never read the manga, and most likely not going to. The new season should be awesome, i just wish they had more than 12 episodes a season.
-
It's not dead. It's just sleeping, waiting for the next season to turn up. Most ppl. here don't read the manga.
-
I love Black Lagoon. As a relative greenhorn when it comes to non-mainstream anime, this show really took me by surprise. It's very gritty with a wicked sense of black humor, and several episodes left me speechless. I'm looking forward to seeing more of the residents of Roanapur.
-
Fro everyone interested in the manga. The new tank seems to be out in Japan. Two chapters are already translated. The other 7 or 8? will probably roll in within a week or two.
-
How is the quality of the series over all?:O
-
OK, let me rephrase the question, does this show suck or not?
-
it doesn't suck. It's got plenty of action and attitude, but lacks the the intelligence that say, Cowboy Bebop had.
-

All I needed to hear. Tx^^

That's a pretty perfect description of Black Lagoon.
For the manga readers: Seriously, how long does this Dance of Death last? It just won't stop.
-
yeah, I have lost the enthusiasm to read this series for a while… i dunno... this last arc has just dragged onnnnnnnnnnnnnn...
but maybe i'll stop reading sporadically and read it over. Give it another chance yah know?
[EDIT] I just noticed I added an extra "the" in my previous post…. how embarrassing
-
Any "intelligence" in Bebop was phantasmal at best.
…
That said, TSB is a worse show than the first series. Sure, there's more Balalaika, but it also introduces a lot of lame gimmick characters and has a number of stupid plot scenarios. In fact the only improvement over more Balalaika would be that nun having more screen-time.
Oh, and Revy/Rock in Japan was great for the NON-BUSINESS SCENES.
-
perhaps instead of intelligence, the right word would be "substance"
while it may be fun, for me, BL definitely suffers from being very hollow often. There are moments of very great characterization hiding behind all the fancy gunfights and crime-crime talk. But that's often the Revi/Rock moments that the series needs to focus on more often.
-
perhaps instead of intelligence, the right word would be "substance"
There wasn't substance either.
You mean "style". Bebop has style, BL…has something going on for it. It's not distinctly stylish, but it's semi-apocalyptic in how lawless and roguish Roanapuar is.
But that's often the Revi/Rock moments that the series needs to focus on more often.
I honestly think this development is only a tease.
What makes Rock interesting is he's standing in two worlds, if it was in one or the other that would not make him interesting at all. What's cool about Rock is he can neck it with the people of the night but still has the tact to operate in the evening. He's no evening walker exclusive nor a night owl.
Progress his relationship with Revy and weaken Revy as a fighter character by bringing dependence into her life, and also shaft Rock's precarious situation by making him descend into darkness.
Revy and Rock should have banged by now, hard and frequently, but kept it no personal than that. That would have been the best development without breaking the series surface tension.
-
^i'm with you on that.
I swear I thought I was in for something special after the episode where Rock literally loses his patience with Revi, stands up to her and lets her have it! Then the part with the cigarette lighting?! (I forget who lit whos) I thought "damn, I guess there's more to this cast than I thought".
but in the end it was just a tease. Really disappointing.
And yes, Bebop's strongest quality would be it's style (that includes music too). But what I meant by "substance" (at least when comparing the series to Black Lagoon) is that for an episodic anime with a disjointed plot, the characters and even the environments (the ship) showed a deal of substance. Action scenes became more meaningful because while they hinged on style, there was always motives and reasons behind most of the set pieces that actually made me give a damn. The character interaction just hit the right key.. well, for me at least. I never once desired to see let's say….. SpikeXFaye or anything like that since I felt their relationship was perfect the way it was (bickering siblings).
-
What came first? The manga or the anime? And which is better?
-
for what? Black Lagoon?
manga came first. ummmm… I really couldn't tell you which is better.
probably the manga
-
@Thousand:
What came first? The manga or the anime? And which is better?
The anime sticks to the manga very carefully, so it's really a toss up as to what you like better.
I will say that I watched the anime almost exclusively, and the themes of the plot elements of the two seasons are noticeably different. While the first season is sort of like an action movie drawn like an anime, the second season introduces those more stereotypical anime elements and also has a more biased moralist bent, so much so it's annoying.
-
^agreed. The action movie angle works soo much better.
not much to add.
but apparently there's a Third Barrage. Not too much info on it yet though. Although i only did a brief search…
-
So has anybody noticed that the so called third season will not be a third season of the TV anime but an OAV covering the, or parts of the first two seasons again. I have to admit I'm slightly disappionted but I do see the point… El Baile de la Muerte is still going on.
-
Sounds more like the TV project underwent an abortion. There's enough manga for a third season, and the first two were fairly popular, especially in the Americas so switching to the cheaper OVA format would mean funding for season III evaporated.
Yes, it is a pity.
-
OVAs are cheaper? I thought they have better animation qualtity…
Than again they often are shorter.
